My friend and I were originally planning to go to the location by Pike Place but it was just too crowded and then my friend remembered there was another location closer to our hotel so we decided to head there. I even realized I could order before hand so we were able to pick up our order as soon as we got there. This location is on the fourth floor of an otherwise pretty dead mall. It's located next to Din Tai Fung and has seating but there was barely anyone there. They did a great job bagging everything to go including a well wrapped sourdough bread bowl. The clam chowder is definitely some of the best. The bread bowl is okay. I didn't really care for the market chowder which was a smoked salmon chowder. This particular location of the well-known chowder place in Seattle is located on the 4th and topmost floor of Pacific Place in downtown close to Din Tai Fung and Seng Tong Thai. This is a sit-in area that's perfect if the weather's too hot or too cold to go the other location at Pike Place itself, since there's many tables just outside the area this restaurant takes up. As stated in their name, they serve chowder of all kinds. I've had their New England and Manhattan clam chowder, and during a Yelp event my bestie and I bought their smoked salmon chowder after having it as a sample. This comes with bits of potatoes and capers in addition to the smoked salmon itself, though I saved the bread that came with the dish for my bestie. I was happy with the capers since they usually come with smoked salmon if you put them on bagels, so this was a nice addition. But now that I've been here it is my go-to location for this chowder. There is a very minimal queue and plenty of seating throughout the area so it's a great option as the Pike Place location always has a line snaking outside their front doors. Today I bought a large 32oz bag of frozen New England Style clam chowder to enjoy at home with the family. This chowder is one of the top 3-4 I have ever had (the others being Ivars, Duke's and Charleston St Cafe). I have tried the famous chowders in Boston and they don't hold a candle to the chowders made here in the PNW. Pike Place Chowder is tops for their variety and tastiness. This mall is a bit odd--perhaps malls are out of style but Pike Place Chowder was prominently featured next to the DTF next door. Holy cow, the lobster rolls are crazy expensive and I recommend the 1/4lb instead of the 1/2lb, since the roll isn't any larger for the 1/2lb. The chowder sampler was the right choice, however, because the flavors were fantastic! We didn't have to commit to one large serving but got to enjoy many bites of different kinds. The lobster roll was good but not great--I would have appreciated a larger roll. The bread was delicious. The service was nice--our cashier helpfully explained the menu for us first timers and introduced us to many of the different flavors and offerings, which I really appreciated. Unlike the original spot in Pike Place Market, there was no line when I went--and the quality was just as good. I ordered a bowl of half-and-half New England and Manhattan clam chowder and a lobster roll. The chowder was excellent--rich, hearty, and flavorful. Definitely lived up to the hype. This was our third time coming back to Pikes Place while visiting Seattle in less than six months!! We are from TX, so to come all this way and visit here 3 times over 2 trips says a LOT!!! They're known for their clam chowder and have won lots of awards over the years, and I can tell you that I know why!! Not o to do they have a great variety of chowders, they also have lobster rolls and crab rolls!! For this go round we decided to get a sampler of chowders so we could try a little bit of everything, and bought both rolls as well!! None of it disappointed and it all disappeared into our bellies!! The original clam chowder Id say is still my absolute favorite and the rolls, it's hard to pick one as the fave bc wow and wow to them both! We got there early enough to where the line wasn't long, and the wait was minimal. They get folks in and out pretty quick. The seating can be a bit hectic, there were 3 in my party but only two tops available at the time, and a lovely couple overheard the employee with trying to seat is, and they were kind enough to give up there larger table so we could all sit together! There are only a few tables, but the main issue we had was with people waiting for DTF taking up half the tables reserved for Pike chowder. We already had our food and were standing around waiting for a table, but weren't sure if they were waiting for food from Pike chowder. It is off Pine St in a nice building, but the place was very deserted with only a handful of eateries, a movie theater and stores open. I followed Yelp recommendations and got a large New England Clam Chowder. I also ordered a side of French fries to dip in it. The chowder was rich, creamy and filled with clams. The 16 oz container came with a slice of sourdough bread. Fried was solid, but nothing special. The chowder is worth stopping for. So glad I found this spot. Although it is not where Pike Place Market is, I would choose this spot over the other because there was a short wait for our food and there is seating. Tucked away in a shopping center with other restaurants, Pike Place Chowder is a must try. A very short walk if you are staying in downtown. We got the chowder sampler and fish and chips. Fish and chips were okay, nothing spectacular. The chowders were amazing though: smoked salmon, scallop, house, and seafood bisque. Now Seattle definitely has a tough act to follow as I've had the chowder in Boston and San Francisco. so far the best chowder I've ever had was in a lobster place in Boston. A lot of other places in Boston turned out to be real duds when it came to Chowder. However, in San Francisco it was not the best but very tasty, much more consistent and much more readily available. I heard about this place and I purposely went to the other location to avoid the crowds and the cold in their perfectly climate controlled shopping mall. Now I must admit this one was very tasty. Not the best but quite tasty nonetheless. Now I do have one bone to pick with this version. this one has bacon bits in it. In my opinion bacon bits have no place in a proper bowl of chowder. in fact I see it as cheating. It's basically substituting cheaper ingredients. if you take out all the clams you're just left with potato soup. Now this location does have other stuff to satisfy your seafood craving. They also have some wonderful fish and chips as well as lobster rolls and crab rolls. All of which were quite tasty. For something fast casual this was excellent. And thank you to the great people of Seattle for opening your warm hearts in this bitterly cold place. I have had some wonderful food here and have met some wonderfully unique people. During this time you can walk around and once you get the text you can pick up at their second window down the hallway. There's not a ton of seatings; you can hover around until the tables open up or take it to the waterfront and enjoy the view with a meal which we did We ordered the sampler that came with 4 different 6oz chowder: clam chowder, seafood bisque, smoked salmon chowder, and crab&oyster chowder. We saw this place and thought we had to try it! First off, it's in a food court of a mall on the 4th floor, so nothing special. Seating was limited but there was a little crowd. It was pricey, so expect to pay a little more than usual for lunch ($76 for 2 adults and 2 kids). The fish sandwich was not good at all. Fries were very subpar. The calamari was good but very small portion on top of fries. The chowder sampler was good. Overall, we are glad we tried it but it's overhyped I think. read more
