We had a great experience eating here yesterday. We decided to be brave and try the Dungeness crab. We simply had to see what all the hype was about. While we were there, I also got half a dozen fresh oysters. I was so impressed with their mignonette :) I love that vinegar on my oysters! They were freshly shucked and super meaty! The crab came out steaming with plenty of lemon and drawn butter. I was afraid to ask for old bay since I think that's an easy coast thing. I didn't order any fries, but the fries looked so delicious coming out of the fryer and the malt vinegar was on the counter to use with it. Everything was extremely fresh. I loved how they cracked the crab to make it easy for us to find and consume the delicious meat. It was a great experience, trying this Dungeness crab, the size of the crab makes for a decent meal but the meat is a little drier than what I was expecting. Disappointing Experience at Jack's Fish Spot I was really looking forward to trying this place based on some of the tourist guides, but it honestly felt like a tourist trap. First off, let's talk about the food. I ordered the salmon, and it was incredibly disappointing. The fish itself was completely bland and lacked any proper seasoning. To make matters worse, it was riddled with pin bones right in the middle of the fillet. Having to constantly pick bones out of your mouth while trying to eat a piece of fish is not only annoying, but it's also a major choking hazard. Furthermore, the setup here is basically a glorified fast-food counter. You stand in line, order your food, and then have to hunt for your own public seating in a crowded market space. There is zero traditional table service. Despite this being a fast-food style operation, they automatically charged a 20% tip on the bill. Forcing a hefty, automatic service fee when you are essentially busing your own tables and ordering at a counter is ridiculous. Between the poorly prepared fish and the sneaky upcharging, the value just isn't there. You're better off finding a spot that actually puts effort into prepping their seafood and doesn't tack on mandatory gratuity for counter service. read more

I honestly don't understand why Jack's Fish Spot doesn't have higher reviews. This place is both a seafood market and to-go restaurant, and it feels like exactly how more seafood spots should operate. You can buy fresh seafood right there while also getting a fresh meal made to order. The clam chowder was one of the better versions I've had in Seattle. It's thick, hearty, and packed with herbs -- more flavorful than most chowders I've tried. A cup was $6.99 and surprisingly filling, with a good balance of clams and potatoes instead of being overly heavy on one or the other. I also got the fried fish sandwich with king salmon for a $2 upcharge, and it was 100% worth it. The salmon had so much flavor, and even though it's fried, the texture stayed light and crispy instead of greasy. Super easy to eat and honestly one of the standout fish sandwiches I've had. Seating is a little limited around the main counter area since most of it is the seafood market/bar setup, but there's additional seating in the back which helps. Seemingly touristy spot but what isn't in Pike Place? Nothing special about the food but service here is friendly and efficient. Popped by right when they opened so no lines. Ordered fish & chips and the smoked salmon cocktail. The fish and chips were decent. The smoked salmon was a little dry but perhaps fine with the salad and dressing - more like a smoked fish jerky. While shopping around pike place, I had stumbled across jacks fish spot. I was intrigued by the fresh fish and smoked fish at first. Then the signs of fresh steamed Dungeness crab drew me in to try. I had ordered 1 steamed crab and decided to pair it with garlic fries. The wait was only about 10-15 minutes but we got lucky there was a super short line. The line started to grow tremendously once my sister and I got seated. The crab and butter were so delightful and delicate. The meat was so tender, slightly sweet and had the perfect firm bite. The staff are cool and chill. I been here a few times, things are becoming a little weathered. I get it, it's the ambiance, but having unwrapped forks in a container that looks it has rust. I've been coming here for many years and the food has stayed consistently good & well priced for the area. The fish and chips are delicious and so is the salmon meal, the fish tacos. You can also get fresh seafood "to go" for more affordable prices than other places in the market. I definitely need to try their fresh crab.
