She said they just arrived yesterday and they're fresh. But when I got home and started cooking, there was so much water in the legs. I already knew it means the crab has been sitting in the water tank for a long time. When it's fully cooked, the meat is about half the size of the leg. I called back to the shop and the owner continues to lie and said they got the crab fresh this morning and then literally hung up on me without giving me a chance to say anything. I dialed back and it wasn't even going through so I know she must've blocked my number. TLDR: SCAM OWNER. DO NOT COME. read more

It's the best place to get spotted prawns when they are in season. They go for about $7 per pound, which is a lot cheaper than what you get at grocery store. They are very fresh and sweet. Yummy to eat sashimi style or just boiled or steamed. Cash only though. Remember to bring cash. read more

What a nice little laundromat turned seafood market gem located in mid-Beacon Hill selling live/fresh seafood at a favorable price point. Variety of seafood offered is seasonal and availability depends on what is delivered that same morning. I've purchased spot prawns, clams, Dungeness crabs, free range chicken, etc here previously. Cash only (not sure if payment system has advanced). Staff may be a tad unfriendly, but don't come here for the service... come here for reasonably priced seafood that you can pick on your own. You can say no to whatever the seller selects for you... it's not their way or the highway. Don't come here expecting 5 star service. As it is a seafood market, be warned that it can be smell fishy and feel dirty. Weekends can get crowded here with parking a bit challenging. This place is AMAZING! There's fresh live seafood. There's everything from spot prawns, dungeness crab, HUGE lobsters (literally the size of my arm), geoduk, oysters, and more! They said they have live eel sometimes as well but they didn't have it on the day I went. The medium sized dungeness crab was $6.99/lb and large was $7.99/lb and I believe the spot prawns were $13.99/lb. We ended up buying 10 large dungeness crab and 2 pounds of live spot prawns for just under $200- DEALS!!! Don't forget to bring cash! If you forget, you can go across the street to the gas station and pull out cash with a $3.50 fee. We drove down from Edmonds, and the drive was worth it! read more

Lucky is the shit,it's a wholesaler so don't expect Safeway.The live tanks are clean there isn't dead fish,prices are good and the quality is always on point.Dealt with her for years and was turned on to Lucky by another longtime comercial customer. The lady complaining about the lobster appears to have let the lobster die and sit before she cooked it.I know for a fact Lucky didn't sell her 3 dead lobsters.Let alone if you buy live lobster you should know they need to be alive. read more

The only reason why this isn't a five-star review is because it's cash-only. It's rare that I have cash on me and if you're buying more than a single 2lb crab ($6.99 lb for large Dungeness) then you really have to plan to go to the bank and get cash if a seafood craving strikes you. They're in the old dry cleaner building on the corner of Alaska and Beacon Ave S, so there's tons of parking around. I've been in before to browse and the selection was small the day I was in but I only wanted one crab for myself, so no worries there. They do have live eel, which I haven't prepared before at home but BBQ weather is here and me thinks I'll have to try it ;) There are also snails, two sizes of Dungeness, lobsters, and other fish too. The tanks are pretty clean, which is always important. It's too bad they don't fix up the place, though--both exterior and interior--it does look shady. I named my crab Frank and put him in the freezer so he could simma down a bit. I believe in humane food prep treatment, so I don't put food live into hot water whenever possible. (Sorry mussels, clams, and oysters. There's not a whole lot we can do for you.) Unfortunately, Frank didn't agree that it was his time to go. He literally grabbed my knife as I went to dispatch him, so it was a little longer process than usual.. RIP Frank. All in all, a good place (cheaper than Mutual Fish) and easy to get to! read more

Not much to look at from the outside and no sign of you're coming in off Beacon, but 7.99 for live, wild caught large Dungeness Crab is a cant beat price. Friendly ladies, a variety of live seafood (spot prawns, geoduck and clams caught my eye) and a central location. They gave us ice at no extra charge as we weren't steaming our guys til the next day. For years I have been getting live dungeness crabs at Uwajimaya or Mutual Fish until a family friend told me about this place. They sell live lobsters, dungeness crabs, clams, tiliapia, snails, frogs, king crabs, spot and coonstripe shrimps and oysters, depending on the season. Out of all the places I go for live crab this place is cheapest. They usually have two sizes of the crabs, medium and large. Same with the lobsters depending on the season. Just call ahead of time to make sure they have some. They usually sell out very fast for New Years, Lunar New Year, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Valentines day. This place is a hidden gem, it's located on Beacon Avenue among a strip of small business before you reach Jefferson Park. If you are not looking for it, you will drive right by it, there is no big sign to identify this place so make sure you look for the sign that is above it's entrance if you are looking for it. I'm visiting from California and my friends took me to this hole in the wall seafood seller. The location is very hard to miss so be on the look out for it! Once inside, you will see the flies flying around, but thats typical for a seafood joint. The women was helpful, even though her English was limited to price and pounds. The prices are hard to beat! When I went on July 18th, the prices for Dungeness Crab 3.59 / lb, lobster 8.99/lb, and prawns 8.99/lb. The seafood was really fresh and delicious! But beware this joint is cash only ! read more

Been going to Lucky Seafood for years since they were originally across the street from Hair Skill. Dirty, damp, smelly but quick and efficient that's how Asians like to run their Seafood joints. Now that they have moved closer to my home which is only an 8 minute walk! I go there 2 times a week to check out their shipments. I have purchased and tried just about everything swimming and crawling they sold: Eels, both American eels and saltwater moray eels(Yes! they have sold moray eel!) Lobsters, jumbo, medium, and small. Seen prices range from 6.99-12.99/lb. Live Opilio aka snowcrabs. Rarely do they get them but they do. Live King crab, Whenever they are in season Lucky's got em'. Dunguness, large and medium. Yawn...don't waste your time on the medium crabs. No meat! All that cracking for nothin''. Red Rock crabs, I only bought them for their meaty claws the body meat is not worth the effort. Live Blue crabs Large Spot shrimp Coon Shrimp, much smaller than the Spot variety but funner to eat! Mantis shrimp (Sold out extremely quick to the Chinese restaurants) Live scallops, jumbo and small Live Abalone, smaller variety and much cheaper than that rip-off of a place called Uwajimaya. Clams, littleneck and manilla, mostly they stock the larger meatier clams but I prefer the smaller sizes. They do carry razor clams from time to time. Oysters...Your typical big bag oysters, boring. Saltwater periwinkles, those small black sea snails. Excellent stir fried with black bean sauce and garlic. Geoduck, one of my favorites! A variety of live Rockfish species! Black, Quilback and Vermilion. Black being the cheapest, generally 6.99/lb up to 19.99/lb for the red Vermilion. These fish are seasonal. Live Lingcod, these giant, ugly and delicious fish are seasonal as well. Live Cabezon, just as ugly and delicious as the Lingcod. Live Greenling, small cousin of the Lingcod and just as tasty. Produces a white and smooth flesh when steamed. In Cantonese they are called "low-see-bon". Live Sculpin, not sure which PNW species but they are not the typical Staghorns you catch out of the nasty waters of Puget Sound. Live bullfrogs, fresh twitchy legs for the fryer! Soft-shelled turtles, big and small. Hack them up for Chinese herb soup. A lot of collagen makes lip sticking goodness. Live Sturgeon...delicious Tilipia...bleh Catfish...bleh Carp...gross Best thing to do is call ahead of time to see what they have. Prices are great! Bring cash por favor. Since I have been going to Lucky I have not bought live seafood anywhere else. Why should I when the quality and price at Lucky's beat them? read more

This place couldn't be worse. Well I guess it could, we could have gotten food poisoning, which we did not. Where to buy fish on Sunday, when Mutual Fish is closed? This is a good question, so I read up reviews on Yelp and it seemed there were many favorable writeups of Lucky. Maybe if you are knowledgeable on oriental cookery, you can do something with fish heads, or whatever. I was looking for a semblance of something I can put on the grill, American style. Halibut is the closest thing they had that seemed like you could grill it. Priced at $7/pound, it seemed like an okay deal. Well the price is for the whole fish. I asked to have it cleaned, which was done very poorly. But taking it home and trying to cook it was a real disaster. This fish had nothing but spine and cartilage (which I don't eat; I don't know about its use in Oriental dishes). Prorated for the amount of actual fish flesh I got, I think I spent around $50/pound. Please don't go here if English is your only language. Try to get to Mutual Fish when it's not Sunday. If that fails, go to Uwajimaya. No nothing is cheap there, and some things are crazy expensive (durian at $6/pound?!). But the fish is decent and you will not be unhappy with the quality of what you get, even if you may complain about the price. But let me tell you, the most expensive thing at Uwajimaya does not price out at $50/pound for the edible bits! And as a bunch of other reviewers said, the Lucky store is also a disgusting shopping experience, dirty and unkempt. The staff were pleasant enough, but that doesn't redeem the place. read more

I just got ripped off by this place. i know seafood, and I can't believe I fell for this. I was looking for crab, but there was no crab and almost no other seafood in the tanks. But there were lobsters. There were three tanks with lobsters: one with small active lobsters, one with large active lobsters, and one with large inactive lobsters. I wanted a large lobster, and she fished out the large inactive one. BIG MISTAKE on my part. I'd have been better off buying $40 shoes and eating them. It looks like they may have great seafood, but I got ripped off. I'd much rather deal with the white dudes at Fisherman's terminal than have to be constantly on my game and get ripped off. read more

In season live lobsters are 6.99-8.99 a pound, Last time me and my friends got a 7 pound lobster live from the tank and totally FEAST! This place is extremely cheap and the seafood are very fresh. THey have specials like sea snails, grabs, sometimes even huge kind crabs or snow crabs, eels, live fish, oysters, prawns, the floor's dirty and yes there are flies flying around but it's not like you're not gonna wash your food when you cook it, it's cheap, it's fresh, that's why it's great. read more

I noticed the most recent post said they were closed, but they have moved to a new location at the corner of Beacon Ave and Columbia Way, just a mile or two south of the old location. The new location is cleaner (so far), and bigger. Prices have gone up quite a bit on crab, and they still only accept cash. If you are going to get anything live, I suggest bringing your own waterproof and durable container because they pack everything in thin plastic bags that your crab can punch through and leak into your car. read more
