We had a really good meal at Duke's on South Lake Union. We got the crab cake burger, salmon bites, chowder and some cocktails, but the coconut shrimp was definitely the highlight for me. Everything was really good and there was a nice variety of things to order. We sat outside on the dock and the seating was probably my favorite part of the whole experience. Being right on the water with the boats and Lake Union around you made it such a fun Seattle dining experience. The staff was nice and the service was good too. Came at 430 on a Wednesday and didn't have reservations. They were busy, but able to seat us (party of 5) within 5 minutes. They told us they had a party coming in at 6 so we needed to leave by then. No one kicked us out, but we left on our own at 10 after 6. Unless they were using the middle area our table was in for the large party, they were seating people around us at smaller tables. Overall service was pretty quick. Server was pleasant and attentive. We had to ask for the happy hour menu in the dining area. Server didn't automatically offer it so was a little surprised. I don't think they have a bar so how else are you supposed get happy hour prices?! Got the house white wine and the chicken tenders. The chicken came with a side of ranch and mustard as sauces as well as some coleslaw. It's a fish place so can't be that upset on chicken taste, but some bites were on the meatier end than others, which weren't ideal. Based on that alone not impressed. We were in Seattle for a few days and looked up some of the top places for clam chowder. We had already tried the number one spot, so we made the trip up toward Lake Union to try this one. We arrived around 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and were told the wait would be about an hour and 15 minutes. We asked about the bar, and after about five minutes, two seats opened up. We ordered the Dinghy chowder sampler so we could try three different chowders. We came for the clam chowder. I thought the flavor was good, although the texture was a little different for me. The biggest disappointment was the regular clam chowder. We don't eat bacon, and they told us the bacon could not be left out. Since clam chowder was the main reason we came, that really took away from the experience. A few minutes after we ordered, a couple sitting next to us at the bar asked the same question we did: "Is there bacon in the award-winning clam chowder?" When the server said yes, they said, "Okay, never mind. We don't want that." So we weren't the only ones asking. We ended up having the lobster chowder. Overall, 3 out of 5. The experience was okay, but because we couldn't really try the clam chowder we came for, we don't plan to come back. read more

Wow. We had a spectacular lunch today at dukes. Lots of surprises The $22 lunch was a combo- absolutely fabulous. A wild Mexican prawn po'boy, with their award winning clam chowder and a small raspberry vinaigrette salad. Everything was great. Such a pretty setting. Where do I begin?! We had such an amazing experience at Dukes, for our last night in Seattle. We walked in with no reservations for a party of 2 & were sat at a clean table overlooking the harbor. Our incredible server Trey soon came over and helped us decide on some drinks, as we were debating between a few. The menu has so many options, it was hard to just choose one! We soon put our appetizer orders in, as well as our entrees. The calamari tasted fresh and crispy, what's not to like? The oysters I was recommended, tasted sooo fresh! The smoked salmon deviled egg was something I've never thought would work, but it tasted amazing. You can never go wrong with fish and chips, which tasted great! Our server was so sweet and was very attentive throughout the whole night. Dessert time came around and Trey recommended this Washington berry pie, we were sold! After several years, we visited Duke's on South Lake Union for a birthday dinner. Duke's has returned to this lake front location after the restaurant had shuttered for a few years and other businesses occupied the space. There are a couple parking lots and on the street parking is availablebforvthe adventurous. Duke's has stairs and an elevator that lead you from the entry level upstairs to the main dining area. The view of the lake and surrounding area from the restaurant is great! We started with chowders (New England and Lobster) that were quite tasty Next up were our entrees. Three of us went with salad entrees ((un)chopped seafood and the Dungeness Crab). The (un) chopped arrived with skewers of shrimp and scallops. I added a tiny lobster tail to my version of the salad. None of the seafood was overcooked. The Dungeness Crab salad had bibb lettuce, bacon, almonds, bell peppers, tomatoes, and a honey-raspberry vinaigrette. The other person in our party of four went with fish and fries and appeared to thoroughly enjoy it as not a speck of food remained on his plate. For dessert, we chose the carrot cake and the Peerless Pier Pie. The service was great and the front of the house and waiters were welcoming. An all around nice experience! Have to admit at being disappointed in my latest experience at Dukes. It was about three weeks ago, the last Sunday in May. Went with my husband and met some family for lunch. We got there first, as the rest of the family went to the wrong location. So my husband and I were just there drinking water and waiting for them for a while. -I asked our waiter to please. "keep the water coming". Anyway, everyone finally arrived and we got things ordered. The food arrived in a timely way. Unfortunately, I have to report that their prices have gone quite high. I know most restaurants have had to raise their prices, but considering the food, both my husband, and myself felt that their prices were prohibitive, and with that in mind, we probably will not be back for quite a while. My hubbs had their lobster mac & cheese, which he gave a 7 out of 10. I had their lobster roll, which frankly, I could only give a 5 out of 10. It wasn't very flavorful, and definitely needed the dipping sauces that were served with it. Rather awkwardly put together as well, which made it kind of messy. Just kind of hard to eat. I did really enjoy their sweet potato fries though. Everyone else had various seafood dishes, which looked good, and one had a burger, which looked absolutely delicious. (I was kind of jealous once I saw it.) The service was good to begin with, but we had to flag down the waiter for water more than once. And towards the end of the meal, I was having some of that dipping sauce with the last of my sandwich; it was on the spicy side and I was out of water. Tried several times to get the waiter's attention, but it didn't work, and I had to literally yell at him to bring me some water. It was a little embarrassing, but I really needed it, & I was getting kind of mad! I mean, after all, I had made a point early on of asking him to refill the water. So that really kind of pissed me off. Because neither myself nor my husband had ordered any other beverage, & we really needed that water something fierce!! So obviously, I have mixed feelings on Dukes at this point. If money is no object, I'd say sure, go here and enjoy something tasty. But make sure you order some beverages so you don't have to count on the waiters for water!!! read more

We came here after a visit to MOHAI. It was happy hour which was perfect. We sat at a table across from the bar and ordered some drinks and snacks to share. I got their Blueberry Lemon Drop martini which was perfect for my sweet tastebuds and my friend got the New York Old Fashioned which he also enjoyed. For snacks, we were brought complimentary bread and then we ordered their Dungeness Crabby Deviled Egg and Wildly Delicious Alaska Salmon Sliders. Both were very tasty. Great views...good food...wonderful service. I would highly recommend the clam chowder paired with the warm bread that they bring out to you. It's heaven. I wasn't a big fan of the crab dip, but my husband and son loved it. For dinner, I would recommend blackened halibut even though it is not on the menu. The grilled trio was yummy although I would recommend asking it to be blackened as well. Duke's is located in a nice area and gives you a choice of sitting outside by the water or inside where you could have access to tv's. The atmosphere is great with a nice view and friendly staff. The background music has that 80s to 90s vibe mixed with Heartland rock and rock and roll. It fits the place well. The restaurant is a little on the fancy side. My wife talked me into going. I felt a bit uncomfortable at first because the crowd did not seem very mixed, maybe because it was during lunch. We did not see much of the usual mix of people who go out during the day. Even with that, the vibe and atmosphere were good and I was enjoying it. Our server came to our table about 5 to 7 minutes after we sat down. The appetizer arrived around 15 to 17 minutes which was fairly fast considering the place was not busy. The food took much longer, about 43 minutes from when we arrived. It was slow at first but then started getting busier. Maybe that explains the delay but it still felt like a long wait for just two plates. The place is mellow and the parking lot has plenty of space. The only issue is you still have to pay for parking even if you are dining there. This is the first restaurant I have been to where you pay to park just to eat. Overall it is a good place with a nice atmosphere and decent service but the long wait and parking situation bring it down. I give it a 7 out of 10. read more

From the moment we arrived at the hostess stand, our expectations quickly started to descend. I suspected that they were short staffed We decided to hang in there and got a seat outside. Great spot on a beautiful day to enjoy drinks and a meal. I let our waitress know that I had a birthday email to enjoy on the house She took our drink order. We started to notice that the restaurant was severely short staffed. Orders were going to the wrong tables I think there were three waitresses and a bus guy. We asked for a large fry, the oysters were great, a bowl of chowder, Caesar salad, crab dip and a Bibb lettuce salad with crab. First order of fries were in a small tin cup. Flagged her down to get the larger order of fries. Ten minutes later and they were cold!!! My Bibb salad had the potential to be ok. Sadly, it was DRENCHED in dressing and the crab tasted like water The crab dip was really spinach dip with a hint of crab. We order a second drink, when she brought them to our table, she tried to take our other drinks away even though there was still beverage left. We left very dissatisfied. The sun had come out and it would have been a great addition of celebrating my birthday month. Having mediocre food and bad service lends itself to people leaving dissatisfied. read more

On my recent trip to the Pacific Northwest, a pang of seafood craving hit me like a ton of bricks. It was a balmy and beautiful evening in Seattle when I meticulously researched every single restaurant in the area and decided on Duke's. Beautiful views, fresh seafood and an hour to sunset? What's not to love about this decision. From the moment I entered this establishment, it was pure joy. The host, server and staff were all incredibly kind to a solo diner like me. I was seated on the outside patio facing the water and soaked the views of the marina in as the sun began to set. It was so incredibly beautiful and memorable. I started with half a dozen oysters - they were fresh and shelled perfectly with the liquid intact and served with a lime granita that was out of this world. These were the best oysters I had on my entire trip! My only regret? Not ordering more. I also ordered the crab "un" cake - a signature dish from what I gathered. I enjoyed this very much and really appreciated the refreshing avocado tower it came with. The crispiness on the outside of this crab cake really did it for me! However, my east coast Baltimore crab cake fanatic self did wish there was more lump crab meat in it. For my main I went with a blackened salmon filet on a blue cheese salad with fresh blueberries. The chunks of cheese, the dressing and succulent blueberries were absolutely out of this world. The server told me they soak the blueberries in juice before adding them in?? Just. Wow. The salmon was fresh as ever, prepared perfectly with the right textures, flavors and seasonings. This is one of the best seafood restaurants in the city, and with an unforgettable view and ambiance, it has to be your no brainer choice for a beautiful meal that satisfies all the five senses! read more

Duke's is, well... Duke's. It is a bit of a formulaic small chain of restaurants that offer a waterside view and a seafood heavy menu. The food is good, but not something that will bring you back over and over again. The service on the other hand is incredibly good. Kind, thoughtful and incredibly authentic. We took my mother - a person who lives with disabilities and requires a mobility scooter. The staff went out of their way to help her feel comfortable and well taken care of. In my book - the staff of Duke's of south Lake Union are a solid 5 stars rating. And, the food is a 3'ish rating. Put together- it's a place that is worth visiting if for nothing else than the amazing staff. Oh, and the view on Lake Union is also really great, especially if you can grab a table near one of the patio heaters. read more

On this visit, we ordered the unforgettable seacod tacos, Kodiak Island Halibut Macadamia and Fresh Berry White Chocolate Shortcake. We were served water and hot sourdough bread with butter. It was about 3pm and we had better service than dinner time. The views were great, service was good and we had an enjoyable meal. The Halibut was fresh but the potato, rice and vegetable dishes were so so. We also had the clam chowder, grilled wild salmon with rice and vegetables on another visit closer to dinner time. This time, we sat outside. Although the soup was great and the fish fresh, the side dishes were so so and we felt rushed by the server! On another visit closer to 7pm, we tried the lobster mac and cheese as well as cod fish and chips. The lobster mac and cheese dish was delicious. However, the cod fish and chips was dissappointing.. The fish was a bit hard and not like the South center location. Maybe the quality dropped as it was very crowded and busy. Views were great and we sat inside. Out of all the Dukes restaurants this one is by far my favorite for the view! The views are incredible no matter where you sit in the restaurant (and I have sat at various different places, although all outside on the patio overlooking Lake Union). The only downside to this restaurant is that parking is a nightmare. There are a very spot of street parking nearby and a small PAY lot, but that's about it. Or you have to walk quite a distance. The food at Dukes is great and the Rajin Cajun Chicken Corn Chowder is by far my favorite dish. Very flavorful and always enough to take home some for later. Oddly enough they just took this dish off the "main menu" but I did find it out the "specials menu". Hopefully they will continue to offer it, the fact that it's no longer on the "main menu" does worry me. Service is always exceptional here at Dukes and the entire staff make you feel welcomed and special, no matter the day. read more

Always a good time. Great options, across salads and seafood. My favorite is the Spinach salad which comes in two sizes. The full portion is enough for the heartiest of appetites. Very flavorful and you get your portion of greens. Service is attentive but never hovering. Our ice teas were refilled without asking. Bread is warm and delicious and comes with every meal. Ambiance is great for casual or business dining. I mostly enjoy Dukes as part of a business lunch. My diet has changed and they accommodated my special requests without fuss. Loved the smoked salmon chopped salad. Fresh ingredients, healthy and filling- greens, avocado, cheddar cheese, crispy croutons, smoked salmon. I think it was designed to push some dishes and encourage mixing up with normal courses. Selected drinks were also at a discount. You sit anywhere as normal dining. Two salads, that we shared, were very well made. The mussels were delicious. The salmon. The salmon sliders was the one that won the 4th star. Just excellent. We tried both fried and raw oysters. Must say for a seafood restaurant, the raw oyster selection was way too small: only two varieties and they tasted similar. Fried one, however, were fat and juicy and satisfying. Dukes is the perfect spot for good seafood! I have really enjoyed everything I have tried there so far but some favorites are the Dungeness crab cakes, scallop ravioli, and any of the fish entrees especially with halibut or salmon (ask the servers what's in season!). Other honourable mentions are clams (the butter garlic sauce is great to dip the bread in) and clam chowder. They also have a specials menu that rotates and has seasonal items. All the seafood is really fresh and the cocktails and good too. The location is overlooking the water which creates a nice atmosphere. The service has always gone above and beyond and the servers are all really nice and helpful with recommendations. They also have a late night happy hour from 9-10 which is nice since most other places in slu close so early. It's a great place to bring family or people visiting Seattle who like seafood read more

We had last minute 5pm reservation at Duke's on a Saturday. On our way out as we sidled past a crowd of hungry diners, we overheard the host explaining to two patrons that their reservation was at the Duke's location in another city. We were seated outside with a beautiful view, an aggressive wind chill and equally aggressive sunshine. We bundled up in our jackets and were given blankets to keep warm. The children received crayons and a sheet of paper with ocean jokes, tic tac toe lines, and a word search that kept them occupied for about 15 minutes. The food was great. I had the seafood Mac and cheese with lobster, crab, and scallop? Kris had the chicken sandwich. The French fries were outrageously peppered. They were awesome. The birthday gal got to choose from the dessert menu, and Kris and I copied her order of espresso coffee cake. Would order again. Parking is paid, but in an open lot. Our server was delightful. The entrance going into the restaurant is an inspiration to all home decorators. Great place to spend an evening! read more
