Where do I begin?! We had such an amazing experience at Dukes, for our last night in Seattle. We walked in with no reservations for a party of 2 & were sat at a clean table overlooking the harbor. Our incredible server Trey soon came over and helped us decide on some drinks, as we were debating between a few. The menu has so many options, it was hard to just choose one! We soon put our appetizer orders in, as well as our entrees. The calamari tasted fresh and crispy, what's not to like? The oysters I was recommended, tasted sooo fresh! The smoked salmon deviled egg was something I've never thought would work, but it tasted amazing. You can never go wrong with fish and chips, which tasted great! Our server was so sweet and was very attentive throughout the whole night. Dessert time came around and Trey recommended this Washington berry pie, we were sold! It came out deliciously warm with some ice cream on top, which was the cherry on top for our night!! Duke's is, well... Duke's. It is a bit of a formulaic small chain of restaurants that offer a waterside view and a seafood heavy menu. The food is good, but not something that will bring you back over and over again. The service on the other hand is incredibly good. Kind, thoughtful and incredibly authentic. We took my mother - a person who lives with disabilities and requires a mobility scooter. The staff went out of their way to help her feel comfortable and well taken care of. In my book - the staff of Duke's of south Lake Union are a solid 5 stars rating. And, the food is a 3'ish rating. Put together- it's a place that is worth visiting if for nothing else than the amazing staff. Oh, and the view on Lake Union is also really great, especially if you can grab a table near one of the patio heaters. read more

After several years, we visited Duke's on South Lake Union for a birthday dinner. Duke's has returned to this lake front location after the restaurant had shuttered for a few years and other businesses occupied the space. There are a couple parking lots and on the street parking is availablebforvthe adventurous. Duke's has stairs and an elevator that lead you from the entry level upstairs to the main dining area. The view of the lake and surrounding area from the restaurant is great! We started with chowders (New England and Lobster) that were quite tasty Next up were our entrees. Three of us went with salad entrees ((un)chopped seafood and the Dungeness Crab). The (un) chopped arrived with skewers of shrimp and scallops. I added a tiny lobster tail to my version of the salad. None of the seafood was overcooked. The Dungeness Crab salad had bibb lettuce, bacon, almonds, bell peppers, tomatoes, and a honey-raspberry vinaigrette. The other person in our party of four went with fish and fries and appeared to thoroughly enjoy it as not a speck of food remained on his plate. For dessert, we chose the carrot cake and the Peerless Pier Pie. The service was great and the front of the house and waiters were welcoming. An all around nice experience! We came here after a visit to MOHAI. It was happy hour which was perfect. We sat at a table across from the bar and ordered some drinks and snacks to share. I got their Blueberry Lemon Drop martini which was perfect for my sweet tastebuds and my friend got the New York Old Fashioned which he also enjoyed. For snacks, we were brought complimentary bread and then we ordered their Dungeness Crabby Deviled Egg and Wildly Delicious Alaska Salmon Sliders. Both were very tasty. Great views...good food...wonderful service. I would highly recommend the clam chowder paired with the warm bread that they bring out to you. It's heaven. I wasn't a big fan of the crab dip, but my husband and son loved it. For dinner, I would recommend blackened halibut even though it is not on the menu. The grilled trio was yummy although I would recommend asking it to be blackened as well. Duke's is located in a nice area and gives you a choice of sitting outside by the water or inside where you could have access to tv's. Clam chowder was mediocre at best, burger was like any old burger except it was 3x the cost. Service was okay but they are always so busy. Expect to get water once during your meal. The atmosphere is great with a nice view and friendly staff. The background music has that 80s to 90s vibe mixed with Heartland rock and rock and roll. It fits the place well. The restaurant is a little on the fancy side. My wife talked me into going. I felt a bit uncomfortable at first because the crowd did not seem very mixed, maybe because it was during lunch. We did not see much of the usual mix of people who go out during the day. Even with that, the vibe and atmosphere were good and I was enjoying it. Our server came to our table about 5 to 7 minutes after we sat down. The appetizer arrived around 15 to 17 minutes which was fairly fast considering the place was not busy. The food took much longer, about 43 minutes from when we arrived. It was slow at first but then started getting busier. Maybe that explains the delay but it still felt like a long wait for just two plates. The place is mellow and the parking lot has plenty of space. The only issue is you still have to pay for parking even if you are dining there. This is the first restaurant I have been to where you pay to park just to eat. Overall it is a good place with a nice atmosphere and decent service but the long wait and parking situation bring it down. I give it a 7 out of 10. read more

On my recent trip to the Pacific Northwest, a pang of seafood craving hit me like a ton of bricks. It was a balmy and beautiful evening in Seattle when I meticulously researched every single restaurant in the area and decided on Duke's. Beautiful views, fresh seafood and an hour to sunset? What's not to love about this decision. From the moment I entered this establishment, it was pure joy. The host, server and staff were all incredibly kind to a solo diner like me. I was seated on the outside patio facing the water and soaked the views of the marina in as the sun began to set. It was so incredibly beautiful and memorable. I started with half a dozen oysters - they were fresh and shelled perfectly with the liquid intact and served with a lime granita that was out of this world. These were the best oysters I had on my entire trip! My only regret? Not ordering more. I also ordered the crab "un" cake - a signature dish from what I gathered. I enjoyed this very much and really appreciated the refreshing avocado tower it came with. The crispiness on the outside of this crab cake really did it for me! However, my east coast Baltimore crab cake fanatic self did wish there was more lump crab meat in it. For my main I went with a blackened salmon filet on a blue cheese salad with fresh blueberries. The chunks of cheese, the dressing and succulent blueberries were absolutely out of this world. The server told me they soak the blueberries in juice before adding them in?? Just. Wow. The salmon was fresh as ever, prepared perfectly with the right textures, flavors and seasonings. This is one of the best seafood restaurants in the city, and with an unforgettable view and ambiance, it has to be your no brainer choice for a beautiful meal that satisfies all the five senses! read more

Warm sourdough bread with butter is great to snack on while deciding what to order off the long menu full of tempting options. Lobster deviled eggs, $9 for two halves, are good but pricey. Loved the smoked salmon chopped salad. Fresh ingredients, healthy and filling- greens, avocado, cheddar cheese, crispy croutons, smoked salmon. The food is overpriced and the portions will leave you moving on to the next spot to get a satisfied belly. It's also disappointing that the owner supports some unpopular national policy. We learned this post meal, if we knew before we would've skipped Duke's altogether and avoided the disappointment in the barely okay food. The money question, would I visit again. On this visit, we ordered the unforgettable seacod tacos, Kodiak Island Halibut Macadamia and Fresh Berry White Chocolate Shortcake. We were served water and hot sourdough bread with butter. It was about 3pm and we had better service than dinner time. The views were great, service was good and we had an enjoyable meal. The Halibut was fresh but the potato, rice and vegetable dishes were so so. We also had the clam chowder, grilled wild salmon with rice and vegetables on another visit closer to dinner time. This time, we sat outside. Although the soup was great and the fish fresh, the side dishes were so so and we felt rushed by the server! On another visit closer to 7pm, we tried the lobster mac and cheese as well as cod fish and chips. The lobster mac and cheese dish was delicious. However, the cod fish and chips was dissappointing.. The fish was a bit hard and not like the South center location. Maybe the quality dropped as it was very crowded and busy. Views were great and we sat inside. Out of all the Dukes restaurants this one is by far my favorite for the view! The views are incredible no matter where you sit in the restaurant (and I have sat at various different places, although all outside on the patio overlooking Lake Union). The only downside to this restaurant is that parking is a nightmare. There are a very spot of street parking nearby and a small PAY lot, but that's about it. Or you have to walk quite a distance. The food at Dukes is great and the Rajin Cajun Chicken Corn Chowder is by far my favorite dish. Very flavorful and always enough to take home some for later. Oddly enough they just took this dish off the "main menu" but I did find it out the "specials menu". Hopefully they will continue to offer it, the fact that it's no longer on the "main menu" does worry me. Service is always exceptional here at Dukes and the entire staff make you feel welcomed and special, no matter the day. read more

Came for the happy hours and enjoyed it very much. After many years, we came again with a friend's invite. The happy hours menu was just a subset of the normal with a slight price discount. I think it was designed to push some dishes and encourage mixing up with normal courses. Selected drinks were also at a discount. You sit anywhere as normal dining. Two salads, that we shared, were very well made. The mussels were delicious. The salmon. The salmon sliders was the one that won the 4th star. Just excellent. We tried both fried and raw oysters. Must say for a seafood restaurant, the raw oyster selection was way too small: only two varieties and they tasted similar. Fried one, however, were fat and juicy and satisfying. Dukes is the perfect spot for good seafood! I have really enjoyed everything I have tried there so far but some favorites are the Dungeness crab cakes, scallop ravioli, and any of the fish entrees especially with halibut or salmon (ask the servers what's in season!). Other honourable mentions are clams (the butter garlic sauce is great to dip the bread in) and clam chowder. They also have a specials menu that rotates and has seasonal items. All the seafood is really fresh and the cocktails and good too. The location is overlooking the water which creates a nice atmosphere. The service has always gone above and beyond and the servers are all really nice and helpful with recommendations. They also have a late night happy hour from 9-10 which is nice since most other places in slu close so early. It's a great place to bring family or people visiting Seattle who like seafood read more

We had last minute 5pm reservation at Duke's on a Saturday. On our way out as we sidled past a crowd of hungry diners, we overheard the host explaining to two patrons that their reservation was at the Duke's location in another city. We were seated outside with a beautiful view, an aggressive wind chill and equally aggressive sunshine. We bundled up in our jackets and were given blankets to keep warm. The children received crayons and a sheet of paper with ocean jokes, tic tac toe lines, and a word search that kept them occupied for about 15 minutes. The food was great. I had the seafood Mac and cheese with lobster, crab, and scallop? Kris had the chicken sandwich. The French fries were outrageously peppered. They were awesome. The birthday gal got to choose from the dessert menu, and Kris and I copied her order of espresso coffee cake. Would order again. Parking is paid, but in an open lot. Our server was delightful. The entrance going into the restaurant is an inspiration to all home decorators. Great place to spend an evening! read more

Duke's ones of those places where you want quality seafood with a gorgeous view of Lake Union and do not mind paying for it. We came on a Thursday and restaurant was quite busy with a couple of tables having birthdays. The food here certainly isn't cheap but generally solid and fresh and the view especially during sunset is stellar. Plus service is on point. Dungeness crab dip and crab cake are both delicious. Crab dip had plenty of dip and perfect level of gooey cheese; chips a tad too salt forward but pairs well. Crab cake was delicious and presented well with a cube of avocado and tomato. The halibut was tasty and had an excellent cook. Potatoes hearty to help fill out the meal. You may finish still feeling a bit hungry after but would've enjoyed each bite. read more

This is the second location I've gone to and I really liked this location. You can see the boats and you're right on the water. You do have to pay to park in the parking lot ($7). We had a reservation so we were sat right away. They gave us a nice table with full views outside even though it was dark out - it was still very pretty. We had lots of questions about the menu but our server was very informative. She also made sure we had everything we needed and drinks refilled. We decided to start with the crab dip. It was delicious. It came with little buttered crustinis. We also decided to try the chowder flight and share. It was 4 little dinghy sized of the soups. We really liked the lobster soup and the clam chowder. Wasn't a huge fan of the other two. For dinner, we split the lobster Mac & cheese which was one of their specials. Our server even had it split on plates ahead of time for us which is always nice. It was perfect portions split in half for each of since we had starters. My friend received a recommendation for Duke's from a local and since she trusted her taste I agreed to try. On a cool rainy evening, we got a seat on the patio. It was chilly but there were heaters above , though I wish they would have been just a tad closer. I wasn't very hungry so I ordered the Oh My Cod! Fish & Chips. The fries were seasoned and crispy yet soft on the inside. The fish was lightly battered and flaky. The tartar sauce was tangy and the perfect complement to the fish. Even though I only ordered the one piece, it was filling enough that I didn't have room for dessert. My friend ordered the double dinghy sampler and she couldn't decide which one she liked better. She said both were rich and full of flavor. She also tried the Dungeness Crab Stuffed Just For The Halibut and the dish looked wonderful. I definitely have to try it next time. We grabbed a cozy outdoor table right on the water and watched seaplanes take off while digging into one of the most satisfying seafood meals we've had. We started with the Shrimp Mexican Corn Dip--a special appetizer that was oozing with cheesy goodness. It came with a side of lime that added a bright pop, but I wouldn't have minded a little more spice. Still, super tasty! The Chowder Sampler was the star of the show. You get: Chicken Creole "N'Awlins" Chowder - spicy, bold, and flavorful. A dollop of sour cream took it over the top. Lobster Mobster Chowder - rich, creamy, and topped with sweet potatoes. The first time we stopped in was with my sister visiting from Michigan and we all ordered a different dish and shared a piece of it with each other. So it was like we all had a combination plate! So delicious!! follow that by their Dungeness crabby deviled eggs and the maple bacon seafood bites. I had to try the Halibut Macadamia and my wife had to get the unforgettable cod tacos in which she almost forgot the name. Service was great and timing to bring out the food was almost perfect. Finished the chowder and here comes the apps. Finished the apps and within seconds here comes the main course. Ended the night with dessert and ordered the Brookie Betty Boop. Chocolate brownie mixed together with chocolate chip cookie, baked and served warm with Lopez Island Creamery vanilla ice cream....so full!! Parking is paid and plenty of it. Dukes hit the spot but didn't wow us. Dukes was one of the spots we tried while in PNW. The service and location were great. Everyone was nice, the place had huge windows overlooking the bay, cool decorations etc. We started with some fresh oysters which were good. I can't quite credit dukes for that though. I will say their cocktail sauce was very good though. Next we tried the crab cake and it was quite good. The salmon Cesar salad and the crab stuffed cod came next. While nothing was wrong with either of them, they were just okay. They didn't have a wow factor. We'd happily eat it again, but there was just nothing that set it apart. Now the chowders were disappointing. Listen... chowder should be kept simple. I think a lot of places try to spice things up, give it their own twist to stand out but in my opinion, the more basic you came make it, the more you'll stand out. I'd happily take the chowder from Ivars (a local casual fast food chain) over dukes. It tasted too seasoned. It was overloaded with a taste too, I think it was thyme, could be wrong on the spice, it was just overpowering. 3 stars mainly because for the price, we wanted a wow factor which we didn't find (-1) and the let down of a chowder (-2). Four restrooms and full bar Parking - you have to pay for parking regardless of whether you are dining at the restaurant. Minus -1 star. The service was great, especially from our server/bartender, Willow. Friendly, attentive, and helpful. (5/5) Complimentary Bread - sourdough. It came out nice and warm. We ordered a couple of things from the HH menu. Award Winning Clam Chowder (small bowl): All natural, New England style, nitrate-free bacon, creamy, and herby (5/5). I can see why it's award winning. But my only complaint was that it was served in a very shallow bowl and not really filled to the rim or lip. Clam Lover's Steamer Clams: local Manila clams with butter, garlic, white wine, fresh basil, tomatoes, & rosemary bread (3/5). Some of the clams had a lot of sand in them. So that was unpleasant. The broth was ok - not as flavorful as other places. Blessed by the Pope Cioppino: Fresh Dungeoness Crab with Alaskan Salmon, Halibut, Cod, Wild Mexican Prawns, and local Manila Clams (3.5/5). The seafood was fresh and cooked well. I thought the broth was just ok. Complimentary Peerless Pier Pie: Lopez Island Creamery chocolate and espresso ice cream layered in a cookie crust with all natural chocolate sauce, homemade whipped cream and topped with toasted almonds (4/5). The ice cream pie was delicious. Seattle Cola - locally brewed cola.
