    Philly Cheesesteak, Sept 2025
    Allisha B.

Perfect food for a game, a night out, sobering up! Fried, heavy, yummy food. I stayed at the nearby Embassy after the Leagues Cup finale, it was 11pm and I found my tummy-to-be-a-rumblin with all the alcohol I had consumed earlier in the day. I got the cheesesteak and the cheeseburger, my partner - chicken fingers and fries. The cheesesteak was bussin! It was ooey-gooey and meaty! The double cheeseburger had a good sized tomato on it. Delicious! It was all well made. The fingers looked a little small, but he got a good amount. I wished there were more options with lettuce and tomato lol, or a more basic sandwich. There were no drinks available either, no canned sodas?! It's nothing nice to look at inside. The door is heavy; given the neighborhood, I understand. The blonde girly working was quiet but kind.

Went here twice. Both on a trip back and forth on a train. It's right next to the train station. It's not bad. The buger (and the foid on general) wasn't overly flavorful. The first time I went I stood in the lobby for like 15 minutes before a person came out. Which wasn't a huge deal because i ordered online, but it felt weird that no one came out. Eventually they did and placed a bell on the counter and then within a few moments I had my food. The big theme is "late night food" I'm sure if it's was late I might feel different but overall it felt like someone who really like Jack in the box decided to open a bar. It wasn't bad by any stretch of the imagination but not mind blowing either.

It's embarrassing that I can be this confident that the jalapeño poppers are from the exact same supplier as Jack in the Box, but I've had way too many late night orders from Jack's over the years and a bitch knows. Sorry. But Jack's are cheaper and their ranch is better. Munchie Madness Platter was pretty disappointing for $20. It would be way less sad-looking if you maybe throw in a couple more pieces, or toss in a cheap filler like french fries or something, or make your own sauces/dressings instead of using Ken's brand packets (they're gross; I just throw them out unopened). Maybe these are not remotely realistic suggestions...I'm definitely no expert, so don't mind me.

When you're craving something healthy you don't go to a place called Fat Shack. But if you are looking for a cheat meal with something fried, cheesy and gooey this is your spot. The burgers were well seasoned and cooked, the onion rings fried to a nice golden crisp and chicken wings were juicy with right bite off the bone. The staff was friendly and got us our food quickly. They also got some sandwiches that were packed with the ingredients but that's something to be tackled on the next cheat day.

I'm so glad Fat Shack was here! I had a little time to get a meal before jumping on my train and a burger was in order. I got the Classic meal. The fries were fantastic! Crispy and well seasoned. The burger was nice and simple, overcooked just a fuzz, with a little too much pepper. It was a good sized meal for a great price! I'll definitely be back! Good food, great location, good service!

This place is just fine. For some reason, I was expecting it to be a fast food place, not a table service bar/restaurant. Prices were a lot more expensive than I thought and the venue had a lot of different menu items, beer options, and seating like a sit-down bar/restaurant would offer. I came here on a weekday lunch and it was completely dead. But then again, this whole area seems to be dead after the pandemic (quite sad actually). Maybe this place gets busier in the evening and late nights but I am not sure what keeps this place going. Perhaps game days/nights around the stadiums but even that, there are other options that are within closer proximity. The food was good! I ordered the Single Burger and a small size of fries. Total came to $16 including tax and tip. The burger was very very well made visually and the fries were fried to near perfection. If you like extra crispy fries, you will love them here. The venue is a lot cleaner than how it looks from the outside and the official food safety rating is "Excellent". That's really about it. Maybe I will give them another visit before or after one of the sporting events nearby. But here is the thing (circulating back to how I started the review) - if we are talking about a proper sit-down bar/restaurant (like this place is claiming to be), I am just not sure if this place is competitive enough in terms of its appeals. As mentioned, the place is clean, the food is good, service is okay, etc. but it just needs ...a little something more. And of course, this is just my opinion. Many would disagree.

FUQ, why is this so damn good? Fat Shack will make you fat. Do not eat here. Because when you try it, you will love it; thus, you will continue to go and get fat. Do not eat here. I visited Fat Shack for lunch one day because this eatery is supppper close to where I work, so it's convenient AF. Also, I learned that Fat Shack was featured on Shark Tank and Travel Channel, so decided to see what the fuss was all about. On a weekday during the lunch hour, the place was pretty busy. So I recommend if you're in a hurry, like on a lunch break, order ahead of time because the food is made as it's ordered. That's always a good sign. But if you want something fast then this isn't that. Fat Shack is known for their fat sandwiches. They're all fat because they're filled with food you should not be eating like chicken strips, french fries, bacon, cheese sticks, anything you'd have a hankering for when you're wasted, etc. There's also different sizes, based off the inches of the bread it's on. The regular size is nine inches, the large is a foot long and a small size is six inches. I ordered a regular gorbies sandwich with a side of fries. My order took about half an hour to get, so again, order ahead if you're in a hurry. The gorbies sandwich was so freaking good though! My sandwich came with chicken strips, bacon, fries, cheddar cheese, lettuce and ranch. And the freaking bread was perfect, with a soft dense texture inside yet with a crispy exterior, for that bite. How the heck did they manage that? The sandwich was delicious. Everything was very tasty, but you really can't go wrong with chicken strips and bacon and fries and cheese and lettuce and ranch. I mean, really. SO, SO good. It just kills me that this and any of the food here at Fat Shack is not good for you. You will eat your suggested calories for the day in one item here, seriously. And the fries were double dipped, so had that extra crunch on them. NOMS. I'm glad I tried Fat Shack, which is exactly the kind of place that would be featured on Travel Channel since there's a lot to love here. Should I even mention the DEEP FRIED OREOS OR TWINKIE here? Yeah, this is food that should not be eaten on the daily or weekly or monthly. Maybe like, twice a year. But it's so damn good...SEE YOU THERE SOON!

This was a really solid choice after a couple of drinks out and about. It's a sandwich full of comfort food! They are also very customizable with the options so I could easily make one of the options vegetarian. They did take more time to make the order than others, but it was super well packaged! Nothing leaked or tipped over with how it was double wrapped and bagged. Can't speak to ambiance as we got take out. I'd definitely order late night noms again!

If you are in the mood for some not so good for you but utterly satisfying food, Fat Shack is the place to go. They are open late til 3am and offer burgers, wings, cheesesteak, fat stuffed sandwiches with sides including fries, onion rings and cheese fries. If you are in the mood for something sweet they offer deep fried Oreos, deep fried funnel cake and deep fried cheesecake. It is a low key eatery with good service.

The oysters were the main draw for me, and they were totally worth the visit. Old Stove serves them with a savory watermelon sauce in addition to a traditional cocktail sauce--eaten together, it's a flavor explosion that I can't quite describe. We also enjoyed the garlic everything fries, which were delicious! We just had to try a flight to sample the brews. There are some really good beers available here, especially the Belgian blonde, citra pale ale, and the stout. I did not really care for the seasonal sour (grapefruit, I think)--to me, it just tasted like a sour and nothing more, but someone with more interest in sour beers would probably enjoy it just fine. Despite the busy night, our server checked on us regularly and was very personable, stopping to chat with us about the local sports scene. There's plenty to look at, inside and out. Perhaps the Lao Burger served there wasn't as juicy and succulent, with perfectly crisp smashed patties as I recalled? Or perhaps Taurus Ox just serves a completely inferior version. I revisited for a Friday late dinner to reach the bottom of things. This was at around 8PM and the place was surprisingly busy, with a fully running kitchen and almost all seats taken. It's a pretty small restaurant to begin with, but since the food comes fast, people don't typically stay too long. By the time our food arrived, a table had cleared up for us. Lao Burger ($18) - This Lao Burger is just as good as my first visit. Absolutely perfectly fried smash patties, completely with lacy, crispy edges that provide texture and an intense caramelized meaty flavor. I've already described the burger in detail in my previous review - what I can say on this visit is that the burger is basically identical, indicating that Ox Burger is consistent with cook and construction. The burger as a whole has the perfect moisture level with plenty of unique funky, umami-full flavors that make each bite a delight. As with my previous review, two things come to mind that detract just a tiny bit from my full enjoyment. Firstly, the burger as a whole is a bit salty for my tastes, necessitating several trips to refill my cup of water Secondly, the piece of sliced pork belly included is kind of vestigial. It seems to be only there to add additional salt, because neither the flavor nor texture are very apparent while eating. (5/5) Deluxe ($15) - This burger is somehow way messier than the Lao to eat. Upon lifting it up, a mess of watery mustard/mayo mix drips onto the plate. I think it might be from the extra moisture in the tomatoes and lettuce. And yet, somehow the bun isn't soggy at all. This burger is otherwise excellent, combing the same picture perfect smash patties as in the Lao, with the classic fixings - American cheese, bacon, pickles, and plenty of veggie mix. (5/5) I'm glad I gave the Lao Burger another chance. It's now one of my favorite burgers in the city. I'll definitely be coming back to Ox Burger for more. The food was great for all adults involved. Portions of fries are generous and delicious, and come with fancy sauces (none of which appealed to me, but were appreciated by my family). The burgers are really inventive, so we all wanted to try the Lao. It's delicious. I did balk at $18 for just the burger, which is a smash patty (less beef) and I took the cheese, Mayo, and cilantro off. Eighteen dollars! No side, no drink.
