Food: The Laotian burger and fish burger were surprisingly delicious. We also ordered fries. You can order without salt which I highly recommend. Fries were crispy and a good portion. My only complaint is that the burger was a bit too salty. Service: It was mid. They messed up on our orders and instead of replacing it, she just walked away. They ask for tips which is odd because you have to go to the counter and order and clean the table yourself. They only bring the food and I'm guessing that has more to do with the lack of space. A tip shouldn't be asked. Also when we ordered, we didn't know thy would bring out the meal so we stood inside for a while. They don't take your name or give you a buzzer so I'm not sure how they can keep track. Lastly, it took a while for us to get our food. It wasn't that busy but it looked like there was only one cook. Ambiance: the inside is TINY but it's a vibe. It's small and oddly shaped but the ceilings are high and it's sort of an industrial open concept. They have a small seating outside and a bigger patio seating on the side street. Napkins, utensils and ketchup are all the table which makes it easier. But the place gets packed so you might not even get a seat. Overall: I'd go back because the burgers were that good. But it's not going to be my go-to spot mainly because of the service. read more

The format here is casual, counter service, seat yourself. They have a good handful of burger varieties on their regular menu, as well as an option for vegetarians to get an impossible patty (they do not make their own veg patty unfortunately). They also have a happy hour menu which is posted up in the restaurant and goes from 2-5. I don't see that info on their website, so keep that in mind! The HH burger prices are a considerable deal. I had a lao burger and a small order of fries, which came out pretty quickly. The small fries ($5) are actually pretty generous, and probably could've been shared. Fries are super crispy and perfectly seasoned. The lao burger ($18) is hefty, with lots of variety of texture and flavor. Still satisfies that burger craving while being creative. It does slide around a lot, which is a bit of a pet peeve of mine with any burger or sandwich, and you really have to work hard to keep everything from sliding out the back. Prices are pretty average for the neighborhood, aka not crazy but definitely more than what you'd pay for similar in other parts of Seattle. read more

We also got the fish sandwich, which I really liked! The tartar sauce is great and the fish is super flaky and crispy. Fries were not my favorite but that's just a personal preference since I typically prefer fries with only salt as the seasoning, and they definitely put some other seasoning on it. Their dips are great though! The jaew bong mayo is so good I want to have a bottle of it for home. The best thing for me, though, is the chocolate chip cookie. I came here on a weekend for lunch, and it was well worth the walk from Capitol Hill! It had just opened so there weren't many other people inside. I got the Lao burger with fries and wow. The fries were so fresh and incredibly tasty, definitely the best fries I've had in a long time and my mouth is salivating as I write this review days later. The burger was also really good, and the portion size was huge. It's a more expensive burger, but I think you could absolutely share it with someone else (as I did) and you get your money's worth. After a bad experience with the Lao Burger over at Taurus Ox (Ox Burger's originator), I kept wondering if I had misremembered Ox Burger on my previous visit. Perhaps the Lao Burger served there wasn't as juicy and succulent, with perfectly crisp smashed patties as I recalled? Or perhaps Taurus Ox just serves a completely inferior version. I revisited for a Friday late dinner to reach the bottom of things. This was at around 8PM and the place was surprisingly busy, with a fully running kitchen and almost all seats taken. It's a pretty small restaurant to begin with, but since the food comes fast, people don't typically stay too long. By the time our food arrived, a table had cleared up for us. Lao Burger ($18) - This Lao Burger is just as good as my first visit. Absolutely perfectly fried smash patties, completely with lacy, crispy edges that provide texture and an intense caramelized meaty flavor. I've already described the burger in detail in my previous review - what I can say on this visit is that the burger is basically identical, indicating that Ox Burger is consistent with cook and construction. The burger as a whole has the perfect moisture level with plenty of unique funky, umami-full flavors that make each bite a delight. As with my previous review, two things come to mind that detract just a tiny bit from my full enjoyment. Firstly, the burger as a whole is a bit salty for my tastes, necessitating several trips to refill my cup of water Secondly, the piece of sliced pork belly included is kind of vestigial. It seems to be only there to add additional salt, because neither the flavor nor texture are very apparent while eating. (5/5) Deluxe ($15) - This burger is somehow way messier than the Lao to eat. Upon lifting it up, a mess of watery mustard/mayo mix drips onto the plate. I think it might be from the extra moisture in the tomatoes and lettuce. And yet, somehow the bun isn't soggy at all. This burger is otherwise excellent, combing the same picture perfect smash patties as in the Lao, with the classic fixings - American cheese, bacon, pickles, and plenty of veggie mix. (5/5) I'm glad I gave the Lao Burger another chance. It's now one of my favorite burgers in the city. I'll definitely be coming back to Ox Burger for more. Best smash burger I've had in Seattle. It's actually smashed and crispy. Jaew bong cheeseburger was a great size for $6 during happy hour and the fries added on for $3.5 made it a complete filling meal for just $10. We also tried the Sweet Baby Clay burger for $7 during happy hour and I really liked the onion rings in it. Granted I wasn't a huge fan of the sharp taste of the jaew bong but it was otherwise good. Space is very small. My boyfriend joked we were in a garden shed. Service was fine but very minimal. Ox Burger is the best burger you can find in WA. I've been here at least 3 times and each visit has been consistently excellent. My boyfriend prefers classic burgers and loves their Deluxe Burger. I personally love the flavors in their Lao Burger. Regardless of what burger you get, their smashed patties are incredibly juicy and flavorful, and the flavors and textures are wonderfully balanced. That being said, we come for the food and not the vibes. Parking in the area is challenging. It's small inside with very limited seating, which is unfortunate during the colder months. After you order, you might find a table inside if you're lucky, then proceed to get water/napkins. I am not a huge burger person, but I absolutely LOVE Ox Burger (specifically for their Lao Burger). I like that they use taro stems because it's a lesser known ingredient and pairs well with the burger. I really like their garlic lime leaf aioli as well, it has a nice tang and tastes like tom yum to me. The hand cut fries are nice and thick, great for scooping up my sauce. Tbh I haven't tried anything else because I only go for the Lao Burger and fries, but I'll be open to trying something new the next time I go. It's really easy to tap pay and get yourself waters, utensils, napkins, etc while you wait for your food. It is pretty small inside, but they've got a great little wooden patio with picnic tables and shade. We opted to sit out here, despite being pestered by wasps. The food was great for all adults involved. Portions of fries are generous and delicious, and come with fancy sauces (none of which appealed to me, but were appreciated by my family). The burgers are really inventive, so we all wanted to try the Lao. It's delicious. I did balk at $18 for just the burger, which is a smash patty (less beef) and I took the cheese, Mayo, and cilantro off. Eighteen dollars! No side, no drink. I decided to go with the Lao burger that seemed to be their most unique burger as well as some fries. The portioning was pretty big, especially for the fries. The taste was interesting but I assume that's because I have little experience with Laotian food. Still pretty good though. My only real complaint was the pricing. The food is good but not crazy good for the amount of money that I spent. Other burger places have similar if not better quality for cheaper. I still think it's worth checking out though! read more

Stopped in here after hearing about there must try burgers. I came in Saturday night for dinner, and it is a pretty small spot with limited seating but there were a few seats available. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, especially once they found out this was my first time visiting the shop! I had to try the famed Lao burger which was a twist on the classic smash burger. After taking in the first bite, which was mainly the bun and the crisp edges of the patty and cheese, I knew I was in for a great experience! The next couple bites I got to taste more of the special sauce, cilantro, and taro with the burger. It was all a delightful mix of flavors. I also liked their fries which were thick cut potato chunks. I would've liked them to have slightly more crisp edges on them, but overall good fries.
