Most definitely a very good to great experience, excellent to outstanding, However, I am indecisive and unsure. Thus a very solid four stars, because I can't give five stars to a place that for the price uses mass produced freezer bag fries and sides that are similar in context and concept certainly good to great, but not at all inspired made from scratch in house and signature. The price and things just do not match the overall quality of the product ultimately. Importantly in context of rating decision there was another kind of mild doozy also that led to the four stars and reason in part for such a long review in my acquaintances chicken sandwich along with being quite tendeniss, there was some kind of a sharp bone piece shard a little bit which shows that on some level, in some context or another, that the business is cutting corners. When this concerning yucky thing happened it made me wonder how often this occurs!? The sandwich that I ordered "Cookie's Classic" was no heat heat level zero, my friend got some reasonable moderate heat and was also in that, Way To Salty, this likely indicates a seasoning and things from a premade manufacture, as apposed to signature made in house for a primary product offering in this case, the mark of an amateur business as apposed to a professional, (when the salt and heat are linked and quickly easily hit a celling) etc... Past all that in all honesty and fairness, the chicken sandwiches were beautiful I let them off the hook for being subjectively under sauced because for an upcharge you can order more of all kinds? huh? And most certainly, other than those complex imperfect things, an interpretation of perfection the sandwich that I ordered with no heat was soft and tender and awesome! After I ate at this place, I tossed and turned indecisive as to what kind of a rating, review and score to give it. Because some parts are almost excellent and other parts were unacceptable and over hyped from evolved outlook appraisal. Thus, I'm declaring a solid four stars ultimately! Ps. When I say that the sides are clearly not made from scratch and fresh in-house, that by no means makes them bad or terrible. They are certainly place holder good to great and better than typical fast food by comparative contrast and decent etc they are just not in-house made from scratch, signature, hot awesome excellent to outstanding they're nothing to write home about. Stopped by Cookie's on the way to a Mariner's game and WOW. This fried chicken spot is a game changer. The meals felt very customizable. You can choose the spice level for each chicken dish, as well as choose a side (in addition to fries!) for each combo. We went with the CCCKFCFB (a bowl with nuggets, mashed potatoes and gravy) as well as the hot honey sandwich with mac and cheese. It was definitely more than enough food for two people, and reasonably priced. The chicken was juicy, crispy, and hot out of the fryer. We chose two sauces, garlic and habanero ranch, and the ranch was a bit spicy/overpowering for our taste. I would definitely try more of their sauce selection in the future. Don't judge a book by its cover, when you see the Location and the outside it's not in the best part of town. It does have parking out front and a nice bathroom. I had passed Cookie's Country Kitchen many times before I finally got to try it. Usually it was too early in the morning, but I'd looked at the menu in the window and scoped out what I wanted to try. This evening, the stars (and buses) aligned, and I finally got in. I walked into an open and warmly inviting space with several tables and a counter at the far end. I was greeted with a smile and an invitation to take my time. She asked about the book I was reading while I perused the big menu board. I admit, I was tempted. The chicken sandwiches look amazing. I wavered...but then I remembered. The Poutine Bowl was what I was there for. She smiled when I ordered and said "Oh yeah, that's good." Ten minutes later, I confirmed it - she was right. So very good. My picture only captures the top couple layers. Within the bowl are big pieces of tender, boneless fried chicken, over a layer of delightfully gooey, melty cheese curds, over yet another layer of crispy fries. All covered with just the right amount of rich gravy and flavored well. The Canadians might have invented poutine, but Cookie's might have just perfected it. A couple words of advice, if you're going to try the poutine bowl too. Get a fork - it may be possible to eat it with your hands, but I'm but actually not 100% sure about that. Get some napkins, because even with a fork it's probably going to get messy. And if you can, try to take your time. It's a lot of food, and worth savoring. It might have taken me a while to try Cookie's Country Kitchen, and already I can't wait to go again. Maybe I'll even eventually get one of those sandwiches. read more

My colleagues and I were walking to another eatery when we spotted a huge sign that read Cookie's Country Chicken, which is how I learned the restaurant that was here before closed. The place is a casual spot that features ample seating for small groups and individuals, with a lot of people getting takeout. The menu is straightforward, with just three lunch combinations, three chicken sandwiches and a handful of different sides to choose from for your combo. It's all about $15 before tax and tip, which is a cheap lunch in the Seattle area. You order and pay at the counter and pick a table afterwards where staff delivers your food. I ordered the Barn Burner chicken sandwich, which is a fried chicken breast sandwich that's spicy with iceberg lettuce, pickles and mayo. For this sandwich, you can choose your spice level, and I went with two stars, which was not spicy at all. But that didn't bother me because the chicken breast was juicy and flavorful, and I am not a chicken breast fan. I usually find it bland, but this one had good flavor and was perfectly fried. I especially liked the pickles with, for some crunch. Bun was nice and soft. And the sandwich was a good, big size. If you dine in you have to bus your own table. If they decide to expand I think they would do well on Capitol Hill. So I got the #1 combo. The chicken sandwich is HUGE. I didn't even get to my side of Mash 'Taters. Ended up taking the leftovers home. Now that they've opened this week I think they'll get a lot of foot traffic from Pioneer Square workers, Waterfront construction workers, and Mariners fans.
