I don't want to be hateful, but I also want to be truthful: I've been trying to get in here for years but only now was able to wander into a seat at the bar for 'happy hour". First and foremost; the staff is charming. You feel welcomed right away. However;....regulars clearly get priority service, and if you aren't someone they recognize it takes faaaaaaaaar longer to be served, as well as to receive your order from the kitchen. ( Just saying. I noticed!) As far as the food goes, it was very good and I'd definitely come back for it. I Had the appetizers from the happy hour menu and it was great, despite that I originally planned to order from the dinner menu. No regrets! Clearly, there's a "clik" here, and it's "who ya know" so the more you come here the better your experience might be. Sad, but true... As a first-timer, it lacked sincerity as far as how I felt treated by the staff and the ambience was so-so. Hopefully that will improve and they offer equal service to everyone. read more

Took a date to Cristo's in Phoenix. Our reservations were at 7PM and promptly seated. Of course, the menu is long. My friend and I chose the Shrimp Scampi, it did not care for it at all. It appeared the sauce was pre-made, and the small shrimp was cooked separately. My friend enjoyed her soup. They forgot to present a salad that I ordered. My friend chose the veal chop, and it was delicious. NOW, they had Maple Leaf roast duck on the menu, so I chose it. It was correctly cooked. Now sa,ying this I buy the same duck locally, and it comes with a wonderful sauce. I wished Cristo's used it. The sauce they had was sickening sweet. I suggest they purchase the sauce from Maple Leaf and the dish will be far better. read more

Went in for a late night dinner and enjoyed my experience at Christo's. I ordered a chocolate martini and it was yummy. The bartender made it perfectly. I ordered the mussels as an app in the white wine beurre blanc sauce- it was very good. I really loved their white bean soup too. It tasted like home. For my entree I ordered the duck, which was good. My server was really nice. She made me feel like I was in a 'mom and pop' restaurant because she was very passionate about the restaurant and menu. She took the time to explain everything and I would have tried more food if I could! I ordered tiramisu for dessert and again it tasted very authentic and home made. It was absolutely delicious. We went during restaurant week. The Restaurant Week menu on their website says $33 per person, when you get there, it's $44 per person. Our server, who was pretty rude, told our table of 5, if one person orders off the Restaurant Week Menu, the whole table has to.... Never heard of this before, so the one person who wanted a meal from that menu could not order it. We eat out weekly and know the demand on servers lately but this server was just rude. As far as the food goes, it was exceptional. As far as the service goes, there were a few problems. The lady across from me never got her soup until we went up to ask for it. I never did get my appetizer, but at least they didn't charge for it. To add insult to injury, the lady across from me never got her entrée either until we asked for it. She didn't ask have time to eat, so she asked for a to go container they brought no lid. It took asking twice to get a lid. They ended up comping her meal, which was great, but this was to be our holiday meal. In their defense, there were 17 of us at the table. It is interesting to note, that they did not automatically impose a 20% tip. My wife and I did tip the full amount, because for the most part it was a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend this place, you just need to remember to be extremely proactive if something is not as you expected it. They will make it right. read more

Ive been dining at Christos for years. Always loved it. Recently went for dinner. Disappointed. Prices raised a lot. I realize restaurants lost money because of covid and need to make it up and Im willing to pay an increase. Stating that their price for osso bucco was incredible - $52.95. Plus we were given two different menus and one menu had the price much lower for osso bucco..... When I pointed this out to our waiter all he did was rip up the menu that had a lower price. I have since researched other Italian restaurants for osso bucco and Christos is the most expensive! Unless its etched in gold we will not be ordering it at Christos! Not sure we will be returning which is sad as we've spent many happy occasions at this restaurant. read more

They were EXCELLENT!!!!!! I have found a new favorite place when I'm visiting from Alaska. Food was delicious! We tried the stuffed mushrooms, calamari, veal filet special, sausage, fettuccine alfredo, veal piccata, veal parmesan, mixed white/regular chocolate mousse. All delicious, mouthwatering even!!! The service was impeccable, wonderful, really some of the best I've ever had anywhere. As a former waitress and bartender I'm critical about service too. I was so excited for restaurant week and to try a new place that I had never been too. So before restaurant week I went online and booked a table for my bestie and me, requested to be by a window. She wanted to try out an Italian place. We get to the restaurant and we are placed in the corner, no where near the window and the place was still pretty empty when we came in since it was early in the evening. We got greeted early, served water and bread really quickly. The wine I choose was the rose that was so dry and unpleasant, I use water as a chaser. The first course I choose the Fritters Calamari that was cooked wonderfully and very tender. The besties got the caesar salad that was way over dressed with salad dressing. The main course was so not worth it at all. Making the night very disappointing. We both got the Shrimp and lobster raviolis - we were so excited for it but it was so bland, no seasoning, the sauce was super thin and with only 4 thin ravioli and 4 little shrimps. To make it worse the main course was cold. The dessert lemon cake was very tasty but the Caramel flan was not creamy at all. The decor is very dated and you can tell they are catering to the older generation with the lack of seasoning. I dont like leaving bad reviews but this restaurant really needs an update to both the menu flavors and decor. read more

Christo's is fantastic. It's, like, a restaurant straight out of the Irishman. Dark, loungey, very intimate. My husband and I went on a Saturday. We made the mistake of not making a reservation - if you go on a weekend evening, definitely make a reservation! They had a bar/lounge area that was open and it was perfect for us. The bartender, Nikki, was super attentive and a wonderful bartender. We ordered scallops as an app. Every entree comes with bread, salad and soup so pace yourself! Everything was superb. Seriously, no complaints. If you order the sea bass, get it with the garlic sauce! My husband ordered the duck which is not available everywhere and not always done well. He said it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. We will be back and next time we will save room for dessert! read more

It's difficult for me to find a good meal at an Italian restaurant due to my tomato allergy, but our server - SCOTT - was extremely accommodating and made very sure the marinara for our calamari appetizer was served in a separate dish and my Chicken Genovese was also safe for me to eat. The chicken was perfectly cooked and extremely flavorful - would definitely order again, but I can't wait to go back and try another dish soon! The wine list and dessert menu was fantastic! We have be coming to Christos for many years. The food and service has always been excellent. However, on our last visit we noticed there was a dead pigeon at the the back door. It was very unappetizing. My son also mentioned it as well. We brought this up to the male seater who has been there a very long time. He "rolled his eyes at us". To make matters worse the dead pigeon was still there when we left! We had a birthday party this past week and I wanted to give it another try (party of 12). My wife refused go there. Very sorry. We were only trying to help. This experience has been shared with many of your loyal customers. If it is above your arrogant seaters status to remove a dead animal from your front door then perhaps he should be removed! Ruined our entire evening! read more

I have really enjoyed my experience both times I went here for dinner. I always try to give very honest, yet constructive reviews so here goes: Each time I came in I sat at the bar. Nikki was there both times and the service was excellent. Everything was timed perfectly, I never had to ask for a thing, she was very attentive, even when every seat at the bar was occupied. They always have specials there and they go over them with you up front, which I like. Always a great fish selection too. I ordered the Mussels, Sausage and Peppers and Chicken Rollatini the first time, and on my second visit ordered the Mussels again, stuffed mushrooms and the Veal Christo for my entree. The entrees all come with salad and soup and always fresh, warm aItalian bread. Overall, the meal was great. The stuffed mushrooms and could have used a little more flavor, as well as the veal, both were a little on the bland side if I'm being honest. Otherwise, ok. But.....the sausage (which they have specially made from Schreiner's) and the marinara sauce was out of this world. Delicious!!! The chicken rollatini was excellent as well. They have a nice wine selection and happy hour menu too. Very reasonably priced. We went to this great restaurant last night for the very first time. Saturday night and not an empty table at 6.30pm. The place was buzzing! The entire staff were very much on the ball with prompt and attentive service. Our server Jessica, was outstanding. The food was delicious. Lemon soup and a good size salad are included in the price of the entree. The salad dressing would not have been my choice but I still enjoyed the fresh greens. I ordered Duck a l'orange. It was tender, moist and not at all greasy and crispy skin with a light not overly sweet orange sauce. Served with 3 vegetables that were lightly cooked. My husband ordered the veal chop and was delighted that it was cooked to medium perfection and very tasty. This was served with pasta and vegetables. A generous pour of wine was well priced and the beer was cold! We celebrated both of our birthdays. read more

I love Italian food. Not just any Italian food, but very good, authentic Italian food that tastes and feels like an Italian grandmother made the recipes in her Italian kitchen and passed the tried and true down. That's how Christo's Restaurant felt when we decided to make reservations and dine here for the first time on New Years Eve. We made our NYE dining 'decision' pretty late leading up to the holiday night...and thus were only able to reserve in the lounge. They also had a special menu for NYE , not price fixe that we were trying to avoid at some of our other restaurants due to all my food allergy issues. Not seeing the menu online initially worried me, but when we arrived for our reservation I was pleasantly surprised at all of the menu options. Lots of seafood! Christo's was packed and to me, that speaks volumes to its reputation. It seemed that this was a family running the place down to the lady at the hostess stand ; the bartender ; the bus boy and the random chef who came out and greeted some of the diners. Christo's has been in the valley since 1987, so it's safe to say, they are doing things right! We were shown to our table in the lounge. A nice table in the corner. Christo's is not pretentious , but I get the impression they will turn you away for showing up not dressed appropriately. Okay, it's more of an impression. I witnessed it while waiting when two people showed up wanting a table and Initially were told they could have full service at the bar, the couple was a little intoxicated , the lady very much so.. and dressed not so well, not even very half well. Suddenly the Italian lady said that they were fully booked for the evening! Note : don't show up half conked or yucky. This is old school Italian! The menu is not an expensive menu, at all! Most dinner entrees seemed to be average of $22-25. The table was white linen and candle lit. I liked it , already , a lot! We started with Mussels in a Garlic Cream Sauce ( there are sauce choices with the mussels , mind you !)and wines .. the wine list is extensive ! I had Veuve Clicquot because it was NYE! A split usually is hard to find for true French bubbly .. here it is $50. Again, worth the splurge and I got 2.5 full flutes. Whew! The bread is home made and is endless.. I recommend splurging on this. Use it to drudge up all the amazing sauce wonderful-ness of the Italian dishes. There was an ample portion of mussels! The garlic creamy sauce was heaven. Prior to arriving at Christo's I had my heart set on Osso Bucco or Chicken Piccata .. or maybe a classic Duck a'lorange ! That's tricky to find ; the two latter of my choices were not being served on this NYE. I went with the Lobster Tail stuffed with Crab Stuffing. The dinner entrees are served with both soup and salad! I have not been to a restaurant that serves one or both with the meal in many years... so this was a treat! The soup... I've never had anything like it. It was a creamy mushroom with artichokes. I'm sure that doesn't sound so yummy , trust me.. it is. I actually wanted more. The salad was another ample serving and had a housemade dressing on it. I was afraid of being full by the time my entree came! My lobster tail was very good .. I didn't love the stuffing so much , as I prefer seafood without all the 'fluff' and don't feel the need to stuff and sauce them to the gills. The pasta it was served with was perfect with garlic aloli. My husband had the Lobster Ravioli .. again I thought it was very good! The ravioli was perfectly cooked and not mushy. The sauce was light , yet rich and creamy and full of fresh mushrooms. So much to this portion, he didn't finish it! I loved our NYE at Christo's.. we even saw someone surprise his girlfriend with getting the staff to bring out his engagement ring!! Our waiter was a little 'off his game ' .. maybe he was grumpy about working on this night. I swear he only smiled at the end of our meal... Nonetheless, everything else was so nice that I can't wait to come back here and sample more pasta from the 'normal' menu... Piccata awaits me!!! read more

Went there for happy hour. Food was amazing and very reasonable. Sat at the bar. a brunette bartender was the most inattentive server ever. Not only did she never ask us if we wanted something she never once made eye contact. We literally had to yell "excuse me" to get her attention. She gave us a menu and the took it away so we had to wait to get her attention to get the menu back. She had a 10 minute conversation with what I guess was a regular or a friend. 2 rounds of drinks and 3 apps took 1 hour 30 minutes. We were trying yo get her attention to order and she was washing glasses and restocking the bar. As I said food was great just find out which nights she works and go another time. read more

Holy hell, this place served up a very bizarre lunch experience. Everyone seemed angry; the guy that finally brought menus, the one who slammed water glasses, and the disengaged and indifferent waiter. It seemed to be fully staffed & only had three tables filled...still service was poor. Bread was basically toast. Appetizers were somehow both over cooked and cold. Salad was meh. Entrees were sub-par, at best. Primavera and linguine were both cafeteria bland. Lasagna did get a thumbs-up. I'd guess that the tiramisu was packaged. Coffee was on point. A tray full of dirty dishes sat next to our table the whole time. The gentleman at the hostess station seemed to be a manager, however, his disposition and lack of attention to his customers, staff, and restaurant only added to the overall fail. At one point, while walking past, he asked if we were enjoying the food. He never broke stride; not even when my friend shook his head "no." I come into Phoenix three times a year for a couple weeks each visit to see grandchildren. I used to live here and I would go into the dining room and have lunch and dinner. It was always a lovely experience. But because I din alone now I sit at the bar and order my food. It's so cozy in this area and they have a fantastic happy hour menu and I think they take $2 off each glass of wine. It's an older crowd in the bar but I find it fascinating listening to the friends and couples sharing Good Times. Service is always spot on... At least it has been for me. Dined at Christo's for New Years Eve, and enjoyed the experience. With NYE came a special menu and a crowd - it was tough to get a reservation but they shoehorned us in. Be nice to the hostess, talk her up a little, she appreciates it. ;) Once inside, we were greeted by the hostess and like some other Yelpers did notice that we might be a little younger than the average Christo's patron. But so what? A good meal is a good meal and Christo's served up a good meal. We started with mussels and chose the garlic cream broth - ample, prepared nicely and served in that delicious broth. Don't let it go to waste! The broth is yum-tastic when soaking a piece of their fresh bread! Entrees were served with soup and salad I ordered the Lobster Ravioli. The salad was good, with a great house made dressing, and the soup -- well the house mushroom and artichoke soup didn't SOUND great to me, but it was delicious. Really blew my taste buds away. I could have just sipped on a giant bowl of that soup all night! So good. And the Ravioli was to die for. I love rich, savory entrees and this was no slouch in that category. It was a large portion and I devoured as much of it as I could, but after all the mussels, salad and soup I just couldn't finish it! If you see Lobster Ravioli on the menu, don't hesitate to order. Very good. Pricing was quite reasonable especially considering the portions. Great wine list as well, and to my wife's pleasure, they serve Veuve Clicquot in a 375ml demi at a pretty reasonable price for a restaurant. Our service was a little slow and our server was quite stoic, but the restaurant was completely slammed for NYE and we are two people who conversation does not elude. I got to thinking about Osso Bucco the other day. My new Dutch Ovens brought this on, I'm kind of obsessed with braised meat right now. What to braise, how to braise, which pot to use... must be because of the freezing cold temperatures. Anyway. A few years back my dad and the evil stepmonster (she's gone now, as in they got divorced, in their 70's, can I hear an AMEN sister?) could not stop talking about Christos. They would talk about it all the time. In Oregon. Like, in the middle of a nice dinner at Jake's. Weird. Also, rude. I just chalked it up to stepmonster's name dropping mental health condition. No seriously, she drops names all the time. ANNOYING. anyway, ahem. It was Osso Bucco this, Osso Bucco that, Christos this, Christos that. So, when I was down there on a visit, post stepmonster, I made my Dad take me. It's good stuff. I don't even eat veal. But the Osso Bucco rocks. Everything else did, too. My first visit here. The decor is old. Clean but old and visions of Gordon Ramsay suddenly appearing linger in the back of my mind.
