Soup dumplings are yummy. I appreciate that they are hand made. Dumpling skin is thick enough to hold the filling and not fall apart. There's a little window in the kitchen you can see them make the dumplings from scratch. We got the mild mapo tofu without realizing. Will try the spicy one next time. Wonton soup is simple yet delicious. Comes with 10 wontons. Portions are large family style so you'll def have leftovers. Service is fast, attentive, and friendly. Came in a Sunday late lunch and it was very busy. Waited about 20 mins.

Service was quick, friendly and attentive. Could not have asked for more. Every food item we ordered was delicious. Soup dumplings were well prepared and just the right temperature (didn't burn ourselves eating them). My son ate most of the bbq pork buns. I didn't get to try them but he loved them. The beef roll was my favorite item. Wonderful flavor and the green onion was a great balance to the heaviness of the beef and sweetness of the sauce. So thankful to have this restaurant in South Austin.

Braised Beef and Beef Tendon Noodle Soup

I'm always a sucker for trying out a new Asian spot in town, and I typically judge first impressions by trying their pork soup dumplings and beef noodle soup. I appreciated the fact that the soup dumplings were handmade, and there's even a transparent window at a station in the kitchen where you see the staff make the dumplings live! The dumpling skin was thin (just how I like it) but still sturdy to hold the meat and soup. Although the flavor of the meat was excellent, I did wish for a bit more soup/juic in the dumplings. As for the Braised Beef and Tendon Soup, I think it did its job but the flavor profile did not exceed my expectations. They did provide a generous amount of protein but I didn't like the noodles they used for this dish. It was more like stringy ramen noodles, and I was expecting for this dish to have more authentic hand-pulled or knife-peeled noodles. My friend and I also shared a side order of their Cucumber Salad, which I really liked! It was crunchy yet soft and there is definitely a spice kick in their sauce (but the spice doesn't linger). I would get this specific dish again! Overall, it was a good first-time experience but I would still rank Julie's Noodles as my top contender for beef noodle soup and Dumpling World for my soup dumpling cravings!

I heard this restaurant is a "Din Tai Fung Dupe" which perked my interest. Having no Din Tai Fung in Austin meant that anything close to that would be worth a 30 minute drive from North Austin to South Austin. The place looked like a normal Chinese restaurant, not a high end place like Din Tai Fung so I was looking forward to some good food at a more reasonable price. We got to a strip mall with the restaurant in the corner around 7PM on Friday. The restaurant was packed with people seated in the waiting area and some folks even sitting in their cars the parking lot. The wait for this Friday evening was quoted as 40 minutes but we only had to wait 30 minutes. One thing to know is that when you place the order, the food comes out in sequence not all at once. I don't think that they came out as the food was ready none of these dishes take longer than the others to make. They did come one at a time about 3-4 minutes between each dish. This is good and bad. We ordered Peach tea Kumquat tea, which came out first. The Peach tea was especially notable because it has a Japanese-esq light, sweat, peachy taste to it and this was better than the Kumquat tea in my opinion. Next came the Cucumber Salad. This salad is a bit different than what we had experienced before at Din Tai Fung, as it was very spicy. I would say it may be too spicy for those how are unable to handle more than minimal spiciness. Having a specially trained taste buds especially tuned for a high level of spices, this cucumber salad was really great for me! It woke the taste buds and prepared them for the savor coming later. Next came the onion pancakes. The pancakes with thin and light. Not super different than your typical pancakes but they were less greasy and were another welcomed appetizer. The third dish was the Shrimp fried rice. The ship was not chopped up as typical fried rice, but part of the dish as whole shrimp. The rice was sticker than normal fried rice and was a bit heavier the rice had absorbed the sauce quite well. We ended up deciding that we liked this version of the fried rice as a good change up. The fourth arrival was the shumai dumping. They were good but not anything to write about. They had bit of extra texture with minced water chestnuts in it. Next came the main draw for this restaurant. The Pork Xiao Long Bao was very good. The soup in the dumplings were tasty and the dumping skin was nice and thin. It came what the prerequisite side of ginger to put on top of each mouthful of bao. The last thing to come out was the spinach sautéed with garlic. This was good also, we just wished it would have come out earlier as we ended having to eat just spinach by itself without the mains. The menu was a plethora of options, given how good the food was, we will definitely be coming back to try the other options, including the lomein. Now this Din Tai Fun dupe compares well against other normal Chinese restaurants, but the menu doesn't have the specialties and exotic-ness as special as Din Tai Fung's, but it does have a lot more options. The price was pretty reasonable also... all this was $71 before tips. So with no Din Tai Fung in Austin, this is a good lower-cost alternative.

Shanghai noodles, onion pancake, orange chicken

Bee Dumpling aka One Bite Dumpling is an adaptive Chinese restaurant. In an environment where fresh pea shoots aren't readily available, they sub the dish with spinach instead. Soup dumplings and limited dim sum can also be found on the menu. There may not be someone making the dim sum in house but the food was, overall, quite good. Dumplings maybe a little too thick skinned and the veggie one was filled with vermicelli, but it had good flavor. No frills interior, enough versatile seating for bigger groups. It was full when we went. This part of Austin is lacking authentic Chinese restaurants so Bee Dumpling is a happy, repeat visit find.

Show me a better brunch in Austin. Great food, great prices, great service. They don't have a liquor license, and their beer and wine menu is limited, but the food is so damn good, and you don't yet need a reservation to get in.

So glad we have a delicious Chinese spot right by us. Went here the other night and ordered: 1. Black pepper udon noodles - this was just OK but it was nice to try something different. 2. Orange chicken - delicious and slightly spicy 3. Pork soup dumplings - not the best I've ever had but def good. Portions are big, so they're easily shareable. Will be back to try new dishes! And the service was great - everything made fresh!

I was super excited to give Bee Dumpling a try since...and I hate to be this guy...but Chinese (-American) food has been a bit tougher to come by in Austin, particularly as someone originally from the NYC/NJ area. I'm not saying I want Texas or Austin to be more like Jersey by any means, but would appreciate a nice Chinese joint with tons and tons of items where you order by letter & number....and Bee Dumpling does a heck of job filling that void! Family run spot with very friendly servers...I thought the food is very good - huge portions. I will return to try more dishes!

After several months passed by the first trying, I came in for lunch and glad they improved a lot. Beef and tendon noodles soup broth has decent flavor (not like 1st time the broth tastes like soy sacue with water). Pork soup dumplings taste better, good amount of soup inside the dumplings. Beef rolls tasted good but the sauce inside is too sweet so overpower the taste of beef and the onion pancake outside. Staffs are very friendly and the environment is clean and bright. You can see them making dumplings in the house from the window. (However, the 1st time I went, there were mold on the bamboo basket for the dumpling. This time, still have mold but way less than the 1st time)

Dumplings, popcorn chicken, spinach, pickled radish

Food was delicious! We got our food to go and I forgot to take a picture until everything was half eaten because I couldn't wait to dig in. You call tell it's a popular spot. The staff warned us in advance we would have to wait a bit longer than normal for our food to be ready for pick up because of peak hours. I appreciated them being honest about the wait time. Food was worth the wait, though! My favorite items were the popcorn chicken and the pickled radish. The seasoning on the popcorn chicken was perfection! The inside of the restaurant looked nice and clean. I would be down to eat inside next time instead of getting it to go.

I was really craving some dim sum, so my husband and I decided to check out this restaurant and wow, what a great choice! From start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations. The food was absolutely outstanding; every bite was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. You can really taste the quality in each dish. The service was also excellent. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. I was pleasantly surprised when one of the servers even spoke Spanish to me, such a nice touch that made the experience even more personal and welcoming. The restaurant itself has a cozy and relaxed atmosphere, with a mix of booths and regular tables. They were playing Halloween movies when we went, which added a fun, seasonal vibe to the meal. A definite must-try here is the pork siu mai, it contains water chestnuts for that extra texture, and also their signature teas. I ordered the passion fruit tea and my husband got the strawberry; both were refreshing, beautifully presented, and the perfect complement to the meal.

Egg rolls, rice, spicy chicken and hot and sour soup. ...left overs

I arrived early for lunch shortly after opening on the 21st. The food was tasty. I ordered a spicy chicken, hot and sour soup and egg rolls. I found the cabbage in the egg rolls to be a bit over cooked and devoid of much structure outside of the shell. The soup was good as was the entree. However portions were huge. While things can be taken home and were enough to feed four, for a single, the portions were over the top. The result is paying much more to have a meal with various items. I would have preferred something more like bento boxes or being able to get a cup of soup. Or two egg rolls vs 4. If you are a single diner and don't want to pay more for excess food I would not return. Otherwise I recommend limiting the palate to one item. The restroom had no toilet paper in one stall and the remaining stall only had a small amount. To dry your hands, the towel dispenser only provided two inches of paper at a time. To be so early in the day to have these issues seemed odd.

I love grocery shopping as you never know who you might meet, and on one of my trips I happened to meet a kind guy who ended up being the Chef of One Bite! He was so sweet and helpful that I decided to make the trek down South. It honestly was a bit of a drive, but the food didn't disappoint and I was shocked as my picky eater kept asking for more! We ordered a bit of everything as variety is the spice of life! They are known for their soup dumplings so we ordered the seafood version and the OG and both were tasty but I still preferred the OG even though they were generous with the crab! The wrap was a bit on the thicker side but my picky eater really enjoyed it. The snowflake pot stickers were also very popular with my picky eater. We also ordered the chili oil wontons which were very flavorful but because we left it sitting the wrap felt a bit thicker when cold. I think this would have been better if we ate it fresh. We also ordered the popcorn chicken which was probably my favorite, great taste and perfectly fried! It was a bit too spicy for the little but the Chef was so nice and offered to remake it less spicy, def good to know for future visits! I also really liked the beef roll as it was a good amount of meat and the wrap was nice and crunchy! Speaking of beef, don't skip on their beef noodle soup, it looks unassuming, but once you dive in, the broth is so rich and the beef super tender! Oh also the string beans were so good, crispy and well seasoned. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The space was very inviting and clean and even had high chairs! The quality and quantity of food were definitely worth it, and the Chef is just such a sweet guy so definitely stop by if you are down South!

My first time wasn't too memorable and the second time I got the ultra spicy veggie ramen and it was so spicy I cried (which is good haha i have very high spice tolerance so I'm glad I found a spot that can do truly spicy). This time, I got the deluxe Chicken Paitan DX Ramen (the one that comes with the chicken leg). Chicken Paitan DX Ramen: A sweet soy glazed chicken leg is served on a hot sizzling plate with a small bed of bean sprouts marinating in the sauce. The sauce is a sticky, sweet soy sauce that is so delicious. The chicken leg itself is tender, juicy, and has a great skin texture. The skin soaks up the sauce so well and even has some nice charred bits that add to the flavor and complexity of the dish. The ramen itself was great too. A creamy rich chicken broth. I got the spicy level, so one level under the top spice level and it was perfect. Not unbearably spicy, but had a really nice underlying kick. The noodles are a thin yet snappy noodle so it made it easy to eat. I love the corn and mushroom spirals too! Overall, if you come based on this review, make sure to get the chicken paitan dx ramen. There are only 15 served in a day but ask them if they have it because I was able to get one on a Monday night at around 8PM! It's a nice space, good for a date or even a casual hangout. They have tables to accomodate parties of 1, 2, 4, and possibly 6.

I ordered hot and sour pork soup. I had never had hot and sour soup with meat. Portions were generous, ingredients fresh, and the food arrived smoking hot. The noodles were soft, smooth and flavorful. The pork inside looked like tiny meatballs. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the restaurant was completely full and customers were continuing to flow in. Because the restaurant is rather small, I had to wait about 20 minutes for my order. Jim, one of the owners, said if I had ordered 3 items it would take about 45 minutes, that's why I went with one. The cumin seeds give it that signature earthy, aromatic flavor and you get a slight tingly numbing spice sensation from the chilis and peppercorn. The lamb is not overly gamey, but it still does taste like lamb so if you are not really a lamb fan, I'd choose something else. - Jumping Fish: A very popular dish! Tender white fish fillets that is so soft it melts in your mouth. It is in a flavorful oil and broth that is refreshing from the fresh jalapenos. It is a savory dish, yet still relatively mild. It commes with napa cabbage as well! This was my favorite dish and I loved the flavor combined with the white rice. - Mapo Tofu (Vegetarian): They have one with pork as well, but I got the vegetarian version. Silky soft tofu cubes in that signature mapo tofu sauce and numbing peppercorns. Despite the appearance of all the dishes, none of them were very spicy. Overall, a comforting soft, spicy, savory dish with a slight tingle. - Eggplant in garlic sauce: A deliciously sweet and umami garlic sauce. The eggplants could have been a bit more cooked through in my opinion though since it was still quite firm. I loved it still! Note that all the dishes to me were not spicy just had an underlying subtle spice or tingle (like a finishing flavor note if you will). Also, since it is sichuan the dishes are on the oilier side. You order with the cashier at the front and pay up front as well. Food comes out quickly. It is a small space with three rows of tables (maybe around 12-15 tables give or take), so it does fill up fast. I went at around 5:40 PM on a Thursday and there was no wait, but by the time we finished eating at around 7PM, the restaurant was full. House of Three Gorges was hyped up a lot on my social media feed and through word of mouth, so I came in with high expectations. Luckily, they did not disappoint.
