Had been wanting to come here since good seafood and catfish is hard to find in Austin. Finally came in. It's like a step back in time. Being from Florida totally reminded me of a fishing shack off the river. Totally casual and laid back. Everyone smiling and having a great time! We were greeted immediately at the hostess stand and taken to our booth and right next to us was a piece of nostalgia that took us back to my kids childhood! Wow! Our waiter was the absolute best. Has been there for over 20 years and ate there as a kid! We started out with the fried green tomatoes. A HUGE basket. Perfectly cooked and a great ranch dip. It could have been shared between 6 people easily! Next came out our entrees I had the "small" which was still huge catfish platter with beans, hush puppies and very large, perfectly cooked onion rings! Everything was so fresh and just wonderful. Tasted of pure home cooking! Son had the fish and shrimp platter. Again, the amount of food for the piece is just beyond words. Just a wonderful experience! We already told them we will be back. Service was great and so are the vibes. I took a chance on this place because o was thrifting next door. The fried green tomatoes lacked seasoning but was fried well and thick cut. My biggest issue was with the seasoned sauce that comes on top and on the side of the New Orleans fish and shrimp. It is soo over powering and salty. Overall this place seems like a local favorite. L ordered iced tea and I had a XX. L ordered Cajun style Fish and Shrimp with fried okra, French fries and pinto beans as sides. I ordered the Seafood Feast with corn nuggets, fried okra and pinto beans as sides. The Seafood Feast had 3 oysters, 3 jumbo shrimp and 3 catfish fillets. It came with a cup of shrimp and crawfish gumbo. It was very good. The oysters were less than expected. Everything else we had was prepared perfectly. Our server was friendly and attentive. There were two of us at lunch. When I looked at the bill (we had separate checks) it had a place for an additional tip though I had not put in a tip. On close inspection buried in the middle of the receipt showed the line gratuity added for party's of six was 20%. So they claimed that each of our parties were 6 and charged 23% and then asked for an additional tip in the subtotal. Though the food and service were really good this is an integrity issue. L and I considered that all of the parties of 2 had the same thing on their bill and didn't notice because it was buried in the middle with no notice. This is an effort by management to take advantage of those who don't closely examine checks because they trust the establishment. So instead of a 4* rating they get a 2* from deceiving their customers. People need to be aware. read more

Food is pretty solid. We got the fried green tomatoes and blackened fish with the sides that came with it. The fish was probably the highlight of the meal as it was really flavorful. The size were okay. The green tomatoes were different as we've never had them fried before, but they are very similar to the concept of fried pickles. Service was amazing as our waiter was very attentive and very kind. Ambience is very welcoming and nicely decorated. I had to take one off because of how the condition of the bathrooms were. I don't know if it was at the end of the day and that was a reason, but the bathroom state was in a poor condition. Overall, a solid spot to visit if you're craving some fish. read more

This is such a reliable delicious meal! I always end up getting the blackened catfish and that comes with a very generous couple of pieces of fish. The fish is always moist, fresh, and tender. Never dry. Then you choose your sides. I love the fries here - whatever they do to it, it works. My partner gets the vegetables (eg. Zucchini) which are actually properly seasoned and cooked! No bland steamed veg here. I often get the mac n cheese (just regular but scratches the itch). Plates also come with hush puppies. It's good, stick to your ribs food, nothing super fancy but all done with love. And the chocolate pie is both massive and DELICIOUS. The crust is crunchy/nutty and the chocolate filling is sooooo smooth and decadent. We often take this go eat at home cos we're stuffed from our plates. read more

We come to cherry creek catfish frequently and went this last Sunday about dinner time and walked into the restaurant. There were few people in the restaurant and no one at the cash register. After a few minutes an employee walked right past us waiting to be seated didn't acknowledge us to say I'll be with you or anything just ignored us and walked off. We left the restaurant disgusted at the man's lack of any customer acknowledgement let alone service. Cherry Creek Catfish is a great relaxing place to enjoy catfish and other menu options. The crowd is a bit older and see easily bring my parents here. The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere great with walls covered with fishing items and history. Located at a shopping center there is lots of parking. The restaurant has both booth and table seating and easy to get in and out. I ordered the Catfish Dinner with mashed potatoes, green beans, and macaroni & cheese as sides. There was four fried catfish fillets but only two hushpuppies. Luckily my wife had plenty on here plate so took two of hers. The sides were great and the catfish was hot to the touch but once cooled down dipped them into the tartar sauce. The catfish with its breading had nice flavor and enjoyed it very much. So if looking a place dedicated to catfish cuisine then this place is for you. read more

This is the spot if you just want a good, midwestern-style restaurant. The dark wood and lighting makes you feel like you're on a road trip stopping in the middle of nowhere but the food is good. The catfish is cooked perfectly and the breading on everything gives it a flavorful crunch. Get the fried pickles if you like spears! I have been going to Cherry Creek catfish since I was a freshman in high school in 2014! I used to go on Thursdays with my family once a month as our get-together spot! The service is always spot on and everyone always has a good attitude! Right outside the bathroom they have a fishing wall with all the catches that people have caught at the beach or Piers or in the general water! The inside is definitely very homey and have never had a quality problem once! Definitely would recommend coming to this catfish joint! read more

This place has been here longer than I've been in Texas ( I assume...but def longer than I've lived in South Austin) and sadly at this point (again) I'd have to say skip it. I'm not new to this place. I know last time I said I wouldn't be back but honestly, it's been a long rough week, I haven't eaten well and I just wanted something comforting. I wanted Catfish Parlor but didn't want to pass my house to drive there. I've been here several times and the one consistent is that it's always SOMETHING when you order from here. The last time I was here they left something out of my order and said they'd add it to my next order but because it was so long ago that didn't apply this time. I don't think it would have made a difference expect it would have given me an extra sub par item to talk about. I ordered after again being let down by not being able to find duck legs at any grocery store in order for me to make my true craving duck ragu. But since I've been cobbling meals together I decided to get a full, satisfying meal in. This seemed the most appetizing that was close to me. I was wrong. I ordered the seafood feast. A plethora of deep fried delights from the sea...or it was supposed to be. But everything was soggy. I should have known better when I called the order in and was told it would be ready in 10 minutes, then it was ready and waiting at the counter when I arrived less than 5 minutes later. It was all just a soggy sad affair. Nothing was fresh. And curiously, even though everything had obviously been sitting around, the catfish was overcooked. It seemed like a hard cook that dried the flesh of the fish and made the edges inedible. And soggy fried oysters are just a NO. I substituted onion rings for the fries that came with the meal and they were ok. The onion was a bit undercooked but I don't mind a more sturdy onion in my onion rings. I also got an order of corn fritters but they weren't to my liking. I don't think there was anything wrong with them but I've only had them one other time at a different establishment and they were a bit different from there so I think it's just a matter of preference. But I think they took actual globs of creamed corn, battered then deep fried it which gave it a soft mucusy center that I didn't enjoy. The cole slaw was interesting....it was a creamy cole slaw with the bite of vinegar based slaw...still not sure how it fell with me. Since the last time I was here they hush puppies have changed from sticks to balls...I didn't notice a taste difference. The beans in this meal were good. The bacon in them was obviously doing a lot of the heavy lifting. The gumbo that came in the meal was actually good. The texture fell perfectly between a soup and a stew (like a good gumbo should) and had a good seafood essence because of the shrimp and crawfish. The best part of the meal was probably the sauces though. The ranch tasted like real ranch and not something bottled. Even the reg tartar sauce was good, which I usually don't use. And I didn't use much this time because I also had their jalapeno tartar sauce which was the superior sauce above all of them. Unlike a lot of the supposed jalapeno tartar sauces this one actually had a discernible kick and a different flavor profile instead of just being green. It was really good. Between the jalapeno tartar sauce and the air fryer, a lot of this place's sins were covered. But I don't want to have to do that when eating out.Also, I'm conflicted about the portion sizes. I realize it's seafood so it's more expensive than say burgers, but looking through the containers at the seemingly skimpy food I couldn't help feeling jipped for paying over $30. So I'd say, again, skip it. I just need to remember my own advice and burn the gas to get to Catfish Parlor next time. read more

Today I visited Cherry Creek Catfish in South Austin and left very SAD and DISSAPOINTED. You see my family and I have gone to that restaurant for over 20 years. There is new ownership there now and the rudest woman I have ever seen or delt with. Her name is Rebecca. I made a simple request. With my Gumbo order can I get a little extra rice on the side? NO unless you pay extra!! Well that NEVER happened before in the last 20 years. So I was shocked and surprised when she came outside of the restaurant while I was on the phone with my wife to chastise me for having the audacity to ask for something "FREE" Quote " Are you the one who's been asking for something free? Well Don't do that again" and she said it angrily like it was personal for her. And then just walked away. The sad part is for the last 20 years that wouldn't have even been a question and the answer was ALWAYS: Sure, is there anything else I can get for you? With a smile, ALWAYS. Now it's different and disappointing. WATCH out for Rebecca!!!!! And don't ask for anything on the side or you may be reprimanded by Rebecca. The saving grace today was the General Manager West. He saved the day for me today!!! After he heard about what Rebecca said to me he apologized to me and took care of my order personally. Suggestion to Cherry Creek Catfish: Get rid of Rebecca!!! My husband doesn't like to eat seafood. So of course, the very idea of going to a place called Cherry Creek CATFISH was not something he was going to agree to easily, despite being certain catfish wouldn't be the only thing on the menu. Thankfully, a friend of ours wanted to have dinner and DOES like seafood like I do, so I had the perfect excuse to finally go here! The inside is really cute, well-themed and feels very much like a seafood joint should. We were seated in the back and it was nice they had a partition to break up some of the noise between patrons conversing. We felt quite comfortable being able to chat about whatever without someone overhearing us. The menu had a decent selection. Not huge, but not small either. Prices seemed quite reasonable. I got the catfish. Obviously. It was alright. Not amazing, like I'd hoped. The chips were really good though. I'd gotten the smallest plate (like 3 fillets... the large had 8... OMG!), but I still had plenty of leftovers to take home with me. My husband enjoyed his chicken meal, and my friend enjoyed what he got too. So I'll call that a win! The waiter seemed a little frantic; I think the poor guy was maybe juggling too many tables. Can't fault him. He was considerate though and doing his best! Not sure that I'll end up here again simply because it didn't exceed expectations and I've still got several seafood joints on my radar to try out! if I could rate this 0 stars I would. My husband and I went to eat there and it's by far one of the worst restaurants I've been to in Austin. - We ordered the fried okra and it came out so rock hard from over frying that it was impossible to pierce with a fork. When we tasted it, not only was it bland but all you could taste is the batter. - We also ordered the catfish, and the catfish came to us so within 2-5 minutes that it was suspicious. We assume that it was either microwaved or they had one already made and decided to just serve it to usD Not only was it served to us cold but it also was very bland. - Our service was horrible, the server ignored us the entire time we were there and it took us forever to order during a slow shift so the server had no excuse for the slow service. Not only that but the server closed our tabs without consulting us nor with us consenting to it. Overall I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. My friend and I went the other day and had an overall good experience. The main food is pretty good but the sides are very hit or miss. I got the gumbo and hush puppies to start which were both superb. The seafood platter with the fried catfish, fried oysters, and fried shrimp was super good and crispy, with the oysters basically melting in your mouth. The sides of beans, green beans, and mashed potatoes were alright- the mashed potatoes were super dry and left mostly untouched. My friend got something similar and had the same things to say except they also ordered onion rings which were awful. They were cut in very thick slices and hardly cooked at all- super soft and almost raw tasting. We asked for them to be remade and they were literally thrown back in the air fryer- teeth marks and all. Not sure how sanitary that is... Once they came back out, they were still inedible. The bathroom was also very gross with toilet paper everywhere and dirty faucets. However, the staff were very nice and very attentive. Cherry Creek Catfish has been "Keeping South Austin Fried" since 1994. I actually remember when they opened. My dance studio was located in the same shopping center and we could sometimes smell the fried goodness from the parking lot. We've been coming here for years and continue to eat here. If we want catfish and we're on the south side of town, it's a given that we will be dining in or ordering take out. It's actually been a few years since I've eaten inside the restaurant, but I suspect the décor hasn't changed. It has the old school charm with the tchotchkes and knickknacks all over the place. My mom will often order food to go. They're usually pretty quick so she doesn't even bother placing an order online or by phone. They do deliver through Door Dash and Caviar if you're not in the mood to go pick up your food. My go to order is the catfish filets with fried okra and hush puppies. I love that they give you tons of lemons for your fish (or you could make lemonade as they basically give you an entire lemon). I've had the fried green tomatoes and they're good. The coleslaw (which I had this past time) is pretty good too. The catfish batter is fried perfectly and has so much flavor! I love it, especially with the tartar sauce! I didn't realize they have other items like ribs and taco salads. I don't know why you would order these items at a place like Cherry Creek, but more power to you. I'm such a creature of habit, so I tend to stick with what I know which in this case are the glorious golden catfish filets. read more

So I'm guessing the last time I ate here was before 2008; have the redecorated? NOPE. Digs are the same! Hey CCC, even Cajun cousin Cypress Grill just renovated HINT HINT. You'll find your usual country staples mostly in a deep fried category. I started out with a cup of Shrimp and Crawfish Gumbo. Good but not exactly authentic NOLA fare. Add some of the table provided hot sauces for some flavor help. Mom's munching on a salad and saving room for the fried cheesecake while I dove into the Fried Shrimp platter. Ample portion (7) for the price, but I felt the meat inside was a little dry. Crust was nice golden color and didn't appear overcooked. Slaw is of the sweeter variety. Mashed Potatoes only available with White Cream Gravy ( I always prefer brown); hushpuppies split with butter was heavenly bites. I also added a Blackened Catfish filet which was slightly undercooked. Tarter and Cocktail Sauce game is totally on point. I'm rounding up to 4 stars; not for this meal in particular (3 stars). it's nice to think back and recognize Cherry Creek's tenure in South Austin. Family meals used to happen here on the reg. So, every since I moved to Austin back in 1990, Cherry Creek Catfish has been my go to joint for some real good catfish. They're located in South Austin, across the street from Crockett high school. I love this spot because they have great service and are always friendly. It's a nice place to eat with family and friends with a great atmosphere. The catfish is seasoned well. If you want a real good appetizer and you're a Texan such as myself, then you should most definitely try the fried green tomatoes. They are delish! The price has gone up a tad bit since Covid, but I still recommend Cherry Creek Catfish if you have a hankering for fish. My only complaint is that they now cut the whole filet of fish in half and call it two pieces of fish. Where I'm from, that's a no, no! Still one of my favorite catfish joints.
