After 1.5 half hours of silent disco dancing at Highball, I had worked up an appetite. However, I did not want a full meal, but something to tide me over until I got home. While at Highball you could see the bright lights from TLC, which were alluring. TLC is located on S. Lamar across the street from Highball and the Alamo drafthouse. TLC appeared to have a million Christmas lights both indoors and outdoors. It is a casual restaurant with a Texas twist. You can find comfort food, fresh seafood, and 30+ beers on tap. The furniture is picnic style, which gives off a family friendly vibe. TLC has ample space. As such, it would be great for hosting large groups, families, or friends in a casual environment. Importantly, their patio is dog-friendly and will be well suited for your fur babies. I looked at the appetizer menu and had my heart set up on bacon-wrapped deviled eggs. Sounded so yummy and something I could eat while I drove home. However, the bartender told me they had been wiped out due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Noooooooooo!!! Say it isn't so. Yep, afraid so. Went for brunch a few weeks ago with my boyfriend. I got the Bananas Foster Belgian waffle and he got the brisket skillet hash. My waffle was very crispy and golden brown, and the bananas foster topping was sweet and banana-y. I just wish I had gotten a savory side to balance out the flavors. My boyfriend enjoyed his brisket skillet hash, said it was very filling and hearty, and the avocado added some freshness to an otherwise heavy dish. Thanks to foodie influencer @austineater, we went to try this place during game day 9/6. Completely flabbergasted to find out that it's been here for six years?! Nonetheless, the food was absolute bomb. We sat at the bar and had an attentive bartender, I think his name was Darren or Garrett (sorry!). I was shocked at how many tables were available during a UT game. This place should not be slept on and I can't figure out why it is. They even had the sound on for the game! TLC was hosting a SXSW event and so I stopped by to check out the happy hour. I sat at the bar and the bartender was very attentive and accommodating. I ordered the lemon mussels They were out of the TLC premade margarita mix so I was told they could not make the margarita by hand in a shaker. So I had a frozen margarita with tajin. The book signing event by Billy Mills was amazing and he was on hand with his wife and co-author to personally sign the book. There was a spread of food including a salad bar, deviled eggs, hush puppies and shrimp cocktail. There were some great desserts available as well including brownies and berries. Restaurant week in effect! Always great to try new places and get a deal. The restaurant week menu for dinner is $40 with a choice of an app, seafood boil and key lime pie for dessert. The seafood boil alone is $38 so this is a great opportunity. Made a reservation and it wasn't busy when I arrived so sat at the bar. Took a few for someone to greet me as they were busy making a few drinks. Love that they have wine on tap! Several whites and reds to select from. Also a fan of the Maine Root soda fountain vs the old stand by of Coca Cola or Pepsi products. Food was fantastic. Got the deviled eggs, TLC boil and key lime pie. The deviled eggs had a great flavor and cooked perfectly. Smooth, creamy filling. TLC boils was seasoned well, the potatoes could have used a bit more bit using the sauce on the pan helped out, along with the roasted garlic. Soooo delicious. Crab legs, weren't enough and take so much work, but worth it. Shrimp and sausage delightful and corn on the cob right up my alley. Fairly quiet while I was there and laid back ambiance. Came here for lunch on a weekday and was honestly a little disappointed. Overall good for a seafood fix, easy parking, but poor service. Highlight was the fried okra appetizer- its so good and highly recommended! My table also tried the hush puppies and fried oysters. For a decent oyster fix Id recommend this restaurant, their oysters were very good. However, their sandwiches and chicken were not very good. I ordered the Shrimp BBQ sandwich and it wasn't good- the shrimp was skimpy and the flavor was a bit bland. The boils were good but seemed smaller portions for being for 2 people. I think what brings this restaurant down in stars was the service. They were very reluctant to provide substitutions for sides or food allergies, which is not common for a casual restaurant like this. By far one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. The crab is excellent, cooked well and they give you ALL the tools you may need. It's hidden so I feel like people don't know about it. Parking is free under the garage connected to the building. They also decorate for Christmas like no other, lights everyplace and a snow machine on the patio. Holiday menu with drinks and food, tried the peppermint martini last night and it was fantastic. My husband has tried the ribeye and enjoyed it but my go-to is the boil. Give them a go! Weird miscommunication happened where we thought we were getting charbroiled happy hour oysters when in fact we were getting "higher quality" oysters for 55 dollars. Ordered a boozy milk shake and a sandwich that never came out. Took about an hour (without getting the sandwich) so if you are on a time crunch maybe this isn't the place. Interior is really really cute for the holidays and I saw some games in the corner so it's a shame our service experience was so bad. The people are really nice and when we asked for the manager they ended up comping everything so... take that as you will. Every year the Rooster clan finds a nice spot for lunch just before we open presents. Try not to dine past lunch hours so service peeps can head home early. TLC Christmas eve was a hit with our family. I started with the raw oysters. For the price they were a win but I also wished for an additional sauce option. Then, something everyone would eat the charbroiled version. Even got dear ol' grandma to eat one. GF and I decided to split some Crab Legs (1lb) and the DKR Sandwich. The crab was cooked nicely; didn't even bother with the boiled veggies. The Sandwich had good flavor and soft bread; good chips too. Grandma chose the Pork Chop while Rooster went for the Chicken Fried Steak. No complaints even when we demanded the boy eat his vegetables. Came here for Thanksgiving since we were on a trip from out of town. We made a reservation online the day before. Their thanksgiving plate had turkey, stuffing, cranberry, green beans, and mash potatoes with gravy. It was good, with decent portions. I don't think it was worth $45 a plate, but it was a holiday so that's probably why they priced it up. Wish they had rolls to go with the meal. We ordered mac and cheese on the side and that was amazing. My son got chicken tenders and fries and was content. The tenders were pretty small though. Service was okay. I had a birthday reward and used it by ordering the 14 oz double Bone-In Pork Chop and Brick Chicken. We enjoyed it very much where the pork chop was huge and extremely tasty with great flavor. It came with Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Nueske's Slab Bacon Green Beans, and Apple Chutney as sides. The sides were very good. The chicken was super favorable and tasty, and had that lemon pepper flavor. It was also served with Cilantro-lime Rice and Green Beans. We ate half of it and took the rest home for lunch the next day. As for TLC Austin this place is dog friendly, nice staff, entertaining, and besides Texas Favorites they also have menu options like the Boil where last time had crawfish. I was prepared to write a 5 star review for this spot but things took a turn halfway through our meal... Firstly we enjoyed our dinner - I got the shrimp sandwich which was delicious and well seasoned. There's a sweet sauce inside which I liked. I also tried my friend's mac and cheese which was perfect. We decided to order the TLC Split for the table, but we had to remind our server to put the order in. The restaurant seemed a bit understaffed too. The server stopped by our table to promise that our dessert was coming out "in a few minutes" a couple times. In the end, we waited 30 minutes for a basic ice cream sundae to come out. When the TLC Split finally came out, it was extremely disappointing. We expected all the toppings listed on the menu to be included, but it was just chocolate and vanilla ice cream on stale and dense banana bread with whipped cream, cherries, and toasted marshmallows. If it sounds like something you can make better at home, it is. The parking garage next to it/behind it has 3 hour free retail parking. read more

The boil is great-I love how we have a tools bucket with the shell cracker and scissors, making it easier to eat. It's great for sharing with two people! They provide a bib and gloves so it's not too messy. The DKR was alright-similar to a Philly cheesesteak but the bread got really soggy so I didn't end up finishing it. Love the macaroni and cheese! Friends got the Texan and Bubba sandwich-I didn't try these but they say those are good. What really makes this a 3 star instead of 4 is the service. Our server forgot our order of the TLC Split (don't get this btw). Then, after taking our order, we waited possibly 20 minutes for it to come out. It is a mixture of ice cream, whipped cream, sprinkles, some hard banana bread, etc. I don't think it included all of the toppings that were mentioned on the menu such as pineapple and brownie...regardless, the hard, cold banana bread didn't taste good and it was a strange mixture of a dessert. We called our waiter not just to complain but also order but we started by telling her about it she basically said something about turning it off and then it was turned back on so they forgot to turn it back off? Love the little outdoor patio (ample seating!) and the proximity to Alamo Drafthouse. The boil, however - leaves much to be desired. The snow crab legs were quite small and the seasoning was not as flavorful as I would have liked. I did like how well they portioned the boil (perfect amount of side to seafood ratio), and it is less messy than places that just give you a bag HOWEVER there are so many better boil places in town I don't think I'd come back here for boils. We unfortunately did not get a bib and gloves with our boil, but noted that others did so I would definitely ask for them if you want them! I think I'd come back to try the other menu items, as the Caesar salad was pretty good read more

Our server Clint is super personable and we had some nice conversation with him. The restaurant has a good vibe with picnic type tables and benches. There are tv's on the walls and a bar with about 12 seats. Clint recommended the bacon flight telling us it's some of the best bacon he's ever tasted. Well I think he oversold it. You get three slabs of bacon about a quarter inch think. One is a plain applewood smoke, one has a sweet pecan glaze on it and the last has jalapeños on it. They were good not great or warranting the $19 price tag. They needed to be cooked longer and were fatty. It's an appetizer but it was the last item to arrive to the table. My son was craving gumbo on a cold day. He added the sausage for an additional $2.50. There were hardly any ingredients his seafood gumbo. I saw two shrimp. Just a bit of rice. I make gumbo and have high expectations. This fell flat. Save your $14.50. My husband and I shared the signature boil. For $38 you get half a pound of snow crab and half a pound of shrimp, two small pieces of corn on the cob, four red potatoes and some onions. The flavor was good...spicy for me. My lips were tingling. The shrimp were good. The crab was dry. Both were lukewarm. The rest of the ingredients were fine. The corn was a bit too spicy to me with the seasoning on it. I've been to several restaurants that serve boiled seafood. This one was ok. Nothing about it stood out. For $121.48 (including 2 beers and 2 soft drinks) I feel like we left wanting more. read more

This is such a fun place to go. It looks a bit more rustic in appearance for the price but the food is always yummy. They have an outside patio with misters and picnic tables or inside which can be noisy against the cement floor. The service is quick and the drinks are strong. You can tell the shrimp are high quality because they have that meaty snap. Yum. My husband's seafood boil was also very good, and huge for the price! My daughter's pork chop was super thick cut and very well cooked and I would come back again just for that meal. The one disappointment was the deviled eggs. We hosted a big birthday party at TLC and could not have asked for a better experience! We came in prior to the event and spoke with Bria, one of the managers, who was not only accommodating, but was excited to help us make it a great success. They reserved the patio for us and provided tables for the gifts and our cake - above and beyond our expectations. It was a Monday, and they were down two servers, but Angel, assigned to our party, was grace in action. Kat the bartender was a huge help as well. Team effort! Everyone enjoyed the food and drink. The restaurant was still decorated for Christmas and it made for a magical atmosphere for the party. We appreciate TLC for making this a truly memorable event. Everyone working got a slice of cake! THE BIG: Located in the Lamar Union Plaza at the end of the road. If you still can't find it, it's right in front of Alamo Drafthouse. There are three parking lots, so plenty of parking around. Big open outdoor area with tall ceilings for the inside. THE BLACK AND WHITE: The wife and I came here during a weekday night and they have half off wines! We didn't grab a bottle but definitely something to keep your eyes peeled. We sat ourselves and ordered the gumbo, atomic shrimp, seafood salad and deviled eggs. To be honest, the salad was the star of the show. We are also on a low carb kick and needed to make sure we kept on our diet.
