So this is a first. Watching my drink be made and the bartender, server, and one other employee did a straw taste from the drink they served me. Never seen this before like that and honestly rubbed me the wrong way. I know that this can be a thing for the bar tender for quality control, but definitely was weird seeing 3 people hover overy drink sampling it before bringing it. The drinks themselves tasted okay. I had the Paloma and my husband had the old fashioned. Several tables left uncleaned (there were only 2 tables woth guests including us). For being on a school campus, the food isn't that bad! I'll give them that. I was a bit shocked that I actually enjoyed the food. The nachos were good, and especially the sweet potato tater tots (they're kinda addicting with the sauce if you ask me). I ordered the french vanilla martini and I actually really liked it. I would definitely order it again. Kinda threw me off that it didn't come in a martini glass though LOL. Food came out in a timely manner, and our waitress constantly checked up on us. We stayed at the AT&T hotel and conference center this weekend for the Rod Stewart concert. Gabriel's Café was inside the hotel so we decided to eat there before going to the concert. We were greeted by a nice and friendly waitress who told us happy hour specials for our appetizer we decided to try the dip trio and the sweet potato tots. The dip trio came with chips, salsa, queso blanco (white queso), and guacamole. All were fresh and tasty. The tots and chipotle aioli were amazing. I ordered the beef fajitas quesadilla for my meal and it was good. I wish I would have asked for more white queso to dip it in though. I first ordered the Lady Bird Paloma, but it wasn't that good. I then ordered the Raspberry Rose Mule and it was very good! Definitely go for happy hour next time you're nearby! Yum! read more

Ambience: Located inside AT&T Conference Center and Hotel. If you are staying in the hotel or within walking distance, I would recommend to pop in for a drink. But not worth an Uber ride or parking to come here. Service: While there were quite a few servers working must of them were standing around on their phones or staring at us rather than offering to assist. The bartender was overworked as she was doing all the work. She was actively greeting people at their tables leaving the bar area. Then she would run back to the bar area to make drinks. Eventually some of the other servers grabbed the drinks to serve those at tables. Drink: We popped down for a drink during happy hour. The special for the night was the Salted dog. We asked bartender what was in the drink. I love grapefruit so why not try it. What a lovely beautiful looking drink. The first sip I was not sure if I would like it. I let it sit for a few minutes to allow the ice to melt a bit. And well that really made the drink. I ended up really enjoying this drink and would recommend to give it a try. read more

Really good lunch on a nice patio with great service. I got the Achiote Chicken Sandwich with house chips. The chips were crisp and tasty, and the sandwich was a gooey mess of delicious. tender chicken, with fresh toppings. My wife got the Superfood Salad and added shrimp. It was a large bowl of fresh greens, with lots of tender shrimp. Service was excellent. Somewhat limited menu, but I had multiple items that looked good to me to choose from. read more

The broccolini preparation -- a red pepper romesco made with shallots, carrots, and agave nectar -- batted way, way out of the league of an average hotel restaurant. This restaurant is located inside the ATT Hotel and Conference Center on the UT Campus, where we are at a conference. Came in here for happy hour and ended up having dinner. The drinks were good, but inconsistent between bartenders. Our server Frankie was gracious and nice. The atmosphere is casual, but they have some nice drinks on the menu. We all had nachos, which were huge. These can feed 2-3 people easily! We got 3 between 6 people and didn't even finish. We got beef, chicken and pulled pork. My favorite for sure was the pulled pork! The salsa was fresh and delicious, and the guacamole was creamy and flavorful. I think I tasted a hint of cilantro in the queso which was wonderful. We had a nice experience here. We were at a conference and my husband's first day was LONG!! We decided to just go downstairs and try the restaurant. It was awesome!!! We split a chopped salad that was the best chopped salad I've ever had. I still think about it!! We split a burger and it too was delicious. Another patron who was alone ordered Nachos. They were so BIG all of us nearby were giggling at the size! However our last night there we ordered them with room service and we couldn't begin to finish them. They were great--such good flavors! The menu is pretty limited with a few starters, 2 salads, 3 sandwiches and 2 taco options. The food was average but fine for a quick bite. We stayed at the hotel and stopped by for a drink and nosh before walking to a comedy show. We had about 45 minutes to hang. There was a big game on that evening that UT was playing in. We got the dip trio and the Brussels sprouts. Those were both good and came out in about 5-10 minutes or less. Our drinks, however, took about 25 minutes to come out - and the restaurant was not busy at all. Seemed like the bar staff and manager were very involved in watching the game and weren't really concerned about getting our drinks out. We were almost done with our food and didn't have long to enjoy our drinks before leaving. The Brussels sprouts were really good, and you can't really mess up a chip and dip plate. read more

There are only a few bar seats, but even with a generally low number of patrons, it was necessary to attract a bartender's attention to get a drink order in, order food, order refills, and get the check. A strength was $3 Texas beers. The Mac & Cheese sounded good on paper was just OK, but then I am a Mac & Cheese connoisseur. There was no sharpness to the cheeses. My friend ordered the nachos with smoked beef. As someone who doesn't normally eat much beed, the beef tasted good, but there were barely any black beans. After touring the Blanton Museum I needed to find lunch some where. It so happen on Sunday the museum cafe offered little other than cold sandwiches and I wanted a hot meal. A woman at the museum recommended Gabriel's Cafe to me and it ended up working out great because I needed a taxi which is offered just outside their door and it was walking distance since I had no car. Located in the AT&T conference center ground level Gabriels is the hotels bar/lounge restaurant. It is on the edge of UT campus, a view of the tower is within view of the door I entered. I found it to be huge, but on the day I visited hardly anyone was there. I scouted the bar with playoff football and did not hesitate. A couple of others had also ponied up and were enjoying the game and some libations. A look around the dining room and the place was spotless. Every table clear, every chair in it's place and it presented nicely. The male bartender took no time to get my drink order and since I was in a hurry I told him I needed to order quickly and catch a cab. He placed a menu in front of me and I flipped it open and reviewed and asked for a recommendation of something hot. He said the house burger with house made chips are a great item, especially for a first timer. So I said go for it and had a brew in front of me in no time. He was friendly and we chatted a bit about Austin since I was from out of town. I really felt comfortable in the place and dug the sophisticated decor. I relaxed and watched the Packers and some other team duel it out in a play off game. My food arrived in probably less than 15 minutes and smelled dlish. Burger, cheese, bacon and nice over sized buns and house chips. I first snapped a few chips down which were surprisingly some of the best house chips I've ever had. The burger staring at me and ready to consume did not disappoint. I was juicy, scrumptious and quite filling. The bartender was attentive and checked on me a few times to make sure all my needs were met. My check arrived quickly upon request and the amount around $15 was a great deal. Credit card swiped and a nice tip left for a great lunch and service. Since Gabriel's is in a hotel those not staying may overlook this gem. I can tell you if I was in the area again I would definitely come back for the same menu item, it was a really solid burger and chips. Unsure what the vibe of this place is when they have business, but for me it worked well and could only get better with some background laughter and a nice group of people. In my ever-continuing quest to find the perfect Reuben, I found myself here per some trusted sources, after a show at Bass Hall. I made it in just under the wire (thanks to GoogleMaps and finding adjacent street parking) as the kitchen closes @11pm sharp to have their pretty epic reuben and house chips (w/an amazing dipping sauce!) and for $10, it was well worth it! It should be said that this place is kind of hidden in that it is on University Dr. in the AT&T Conference Center w/the hotel and the super fancypants Carillon restaurant. There is valet parking, but I don't know how much it costs. The Cafe itself is a kind of surprising fancy, dim-lit swank type decor and atmo, which was almost initially off-putting as my friend and I walked in super-casual in jeans and sweaters, but we were immediately put at ease when the hostess/waitress sat us immediately and put my reuben order in with literally just a minute to spare. The place was a ghost town when we entered on a Sat night, but it might have been off peak day/hours. The Reuben was magnificent and close to the best I have had in Austin, the house chips were perfectly cooked and the dipping sauce they came with has given me yet another addiction. The service was solid and we were in and out in under 40mins. That being said, I will definitely try this place again during the day as the view from the huge windows would probably be fantastic of the UT campus! read more

Food is decent, and servers are really nice, albeit clueless about their menus. As the only 3-meal restaurant inside the hotel, I find it absolutely shameful that during a week-long stay, the menu NEVER changed between lunch and dinner, and the kitchen offers zero daily specials. Seriously? The servers never knew what the soup of the day was (and actually admitted the soup changes every 2 days "when we usually run out"), and couldn't ever answer whether any dishes I mentioned were made without meat stock (as a vegetarian, we depend on accurate knowledge of ingredients.) Missed opportunities here to have a captive daily audience of diners, but they really don't seem to care that I walk up to 10 blocks away to eat my daily meals when I would rather eat "at home" while staying here! Mostly for its convenience factor, I enjoy Gabriel's from time to time. It's located on the campus of The University of Texas at Austin (Hook 'em!) in the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center. The staff is good and getting better. Alex always takes great care of me and my guests. They've changed the menu recently, adding some local items and updating some of the less classy meals. They now have Antonelli's Cheese, which is great, and the reuben is pretty awesome. Try the tacos too. If you park in the AT&T Center, then you can get your parking validated, so don't valet or park on the street. If you ever need to hold a happy hour, their event staff are friendly, and the deals are pretty good. They'll set up apps and start a tab. All in all, a good, chill place to hang out. read more

A perfectly pleasant hotel bar with food ... in a nice room with good looks and high prices. One major draw that sets it apart. And this draw is a HUGE plus. They do their own infused tequila with fruit, herbs and jalapeno. They do their own infused vodka with pineapple. These are absolutely positively destination beverages. In particular, you have never drunk anything in your life like the jalapeno infused tequila. The alcohol is smooth. The jalapeno is scorching. The fruit and herbs give powerful taste. This is a demanding complex beverage that is at the top of my list for good infused spirit beverages. It is worth coming to the ATT Center just for the tequila alone. The food, the room, the other drinks and the prices are all typical of a nice hotel with high prices - but one that delivers fair value for the high prices. You won't get any bargains - but you won't be ripped off either - which is a contrast from the gouge-the-customer mentality of many supposedly destination hotels. The food isn't as good as the Carillon across the hallway (which is a bona fide destination restaurant). But it is serviceable. The ambiance and the bar are perfectly lovely. If I wanted a nice drink on campus, stopping off here for the tequila would be a fine move. read more

This was the bar at the hotel where I stayed for a conference, but it is also the only place that serves a full lunch on weekends. So I popped in on Sunday afternoon, to eat & catch a bit of the Saints game between meetings. The service was...confused. The waiters were sweet but falling all over each other. Turns out none of them normally work lunch in this space. One of them didn't know how to run credit cards because he normally worked room service. But they tried hard. We visited Gabriel's several times during our stay at the hotel. Between the staff, excellent food and drink specials our stay was fantastic. Everyone seemed to have a great time while there. What a great place. It is hidden inside the AT&T center. Very nice place, a bit formal, but not too much. Service was A+, very good selection at the bar, good list of whiskey, included Glenlivet 21, what was a surprise. Menu is adequate, but the most important was the very relaxed atmosphere with very friendly staff. Last night I ordered a 6 oz fillet medium. My friend ordered the same thing. Hers was perfect but mine was cooked well, no pink at all. It had good flavor so I ate it. This afternoon I come in and I'm the only one sitting in the back away from the bar. You have the PUPPY bowl playing on all 5 big screen TVs. I'm the guest in the dining room. A couple comes in and asked " oh you don't have the SUPER bowl on?" Mind you the game doesn't start for another 1.5 hours.
