This was the perfect place to go for St Patrick's day. It was packed but a lively vibe and the bartenders were doing their best to get people served. It was standing room only but there are booths and tables that I'm sure on a different night would be available to sit. There are a number of bars on the same street, so parking can be a challenge and it'll probably be on the street. All the typical Irish drinks are made as well as any other popular type of drink. It's my favorite neighborhood spot. We eat here about 1-2 times a week. The steak tartar is perfection. They recently added the crab pasta back to the specials and I am so happy. Definitely don't skip out on Chicken Parm night (tuesdays). The entire team is amazing but the bar staff is the best. The ambiance lives up to the name, it's a tavern with Austin vibes. Dim lighting dark velvet drapes and heavy on the wood furniture, leather seats and a well stocked bar. Pair this with a lively bar tender and welcoming staff and you start to understand why this unique Tavern has such an online following and gets such good reviews. There js also a really nice outdoor bar I've seen tons of people raving about on social media that seems to be a hidden gem. The food is delicious and creative. Fish N Chips seems to be a fan favorite including my own go to but the Ruben and even more so the Prime rib is where it's at. I also had a Guinness and I don't know where they get it from or if it's just fresher than other places but it's the smoothest one I've ever had. Murray's Tavern has some really cool specials on different days like Steak and Frits with margaritas or lunch combos where you can choose a listed entree on the back lower half of the menu that comes with your choice of some out of this world French onion soup or salad and a N/A drink for a extremely reasonable price. The staff is so lively and super cool they are all such friendly individuals with giving hearts and big personalities. They literally go the extra mile to ensure you have a good time and enjoy your food and drink as much as possible. Met a friend here last month partly because it was located near a place we planned to go dancing at afterwards. Great location. I was lucky to get a spot in their small parking lot. The food was great and I enjoyed the orgeat cocktail. There were several flies and we had to wait for one of the mini table fans that were apparently getting charged. We finally got one and it conked out halfway through our meal so we were shooing away flies while trying to eat. If I wasn't moving out of Austin I wouldn't even consider writing a review out of fear that getting a reservation would become impossible. Being originally from the Northeast, it's pretty hard for me to be impressed by Prime Rib or Pastrami sandwiches anywhere else. Murray's Tavern absolutely changed that for me. The Prime Rib is the best I've had outside of where I grew up, and honestly might even be at the same level. The pastrami sandwich is the best I've had in Texas, but not as good as where I grew up (to be fair impossible to beat the local deli). Not sure where they're sourcing their oysters but also worth the hype. Lastly, don't sleep on the french fries, they're the best I've ever had and probably ever will have. Must be hand cut and cooked in butter or some duck fat, chef's kiss. The mixed drinks are also incredible, rivaling some of the Michelin star spots with some of their concoctions and at a lower price point. The place is also really cool, with the bar extending across the entire main dining area. Also, nice to have a separate setting area in the back that's a bit more quiet for dates. read more

My group of 10 friends made a reservation on a Saturday night and they were able to accommodate us. There is free street parking around the neighborhood. They have nice big tables in the back of the restaurant. The interior was decorated with rich colors and dim lighting, making it a perfect spot for an intimate date night. So I've always loved this place and those of you wondering yes it actually is kid friendly so if you have children, you could take them there. We went during happy hours since they had it all day on Mondays. I went with the espresso martini and they're called mini cocktails. Yes, it is mini two words almost like a shot or so, but let me tell you the drink was so strong. You're fine with the mini size. The drink was delicious. They did a great job on it. I love that. It did not have milk or was overly milky like others. I did get the beef tartare but totally forgot to take a photo. They do a great job here with it so definitely get it and they did have it for happy hour as well. I also started off with one oyster because I wanted to make sure I like them and let me tell you they were delicious that I ordered six more and they were only two dollars each for happy hour. It is a full bar so you can have any cocktail you practically want. And I have come for their steak and fruits, which is also delicious and they have a special on Wednesday night nights. Salad had lots of white parts of the lettuce in it. Not good. Prime rib was chewy and difficult to cut. Not the most prime piece of meat for $44 plus tax and tip. The place itself was really nice: the interior is very well decorated, outside is very spacious, and overall the place is not crammed and has plenty of room. The staff was great! Had Murray's on my to-go list for a while so when we had a concert at Moody Center on a Tuesday we figured we would swing by before the show. We caught the tail end of happy hour and ordered a dirty martini and my husband got a bourbon on the rocks. We sat at the bar and the bartender was super friendly and attentive. We started with the pizza puffs which I could have eaten 2 more orders of. It's like the chef locked himself in the kitchen until he perfected the inside of a Totino's pizza roll and I'm not sad about it. The puff pastry exterior makes them melt in your mouth. We ordered the Rueben and the meat was so tender it fell apart and was super flavorful. Also ordered a Guinness for dessert and the bartender added a little picture of a dog on the foam which was a fun touch. Arrived at 7:15p for a 7:30p reservation, and the host was nice enough to give us the option of either sitting at a table top or wait at the bar for our table at the patio. We chose to sit at the table top. Ambience - it was pretty loud in the bar, definitely had to shout with my fellow diner. Nothing that the establishment could do about it, but just a heads up if you decide that you also would like to sit at the table tops inside. Food - ordered the steak tartare, french fries, chicken pot pie, and the prime roast - everything was hot, well flavored, and super tasty, only problem was the mains (roast, and the pot pie) took close to 40-50 minutes to come up after our entree. I had to ask one of the runners to see where the food was. Definitely try the steak tartare, the saltines definitely add a little texture and saltiness to the meat. Service - now this is where things were BRUTAL. The host sat us at the high top, and we waited about 20 minutes before the host came around and at least dropped us some water. I had to ask the host if there was a server for our table after about 30 minutes. The first round of drinks were pretty slow, and then my second drink took nearly 30 minutes. We watched our server enjoy long conversations with other tables, but for some reason neglected us. I had to ask who I believe was our manager to see if they could check on my 2nd drink. It wasn't like our server was super overwhelmed by the big parties, it just seemed like they didn't care about our table, which was extremely disappointing. Also I witnessed a staff person walk out of the shared bathrooms without washing their hands, and I mentioned it to the manager, which they replied "oh there is a sink behind the bar", whether that's true or not, no idea if they actually washed their hands despite their being a large sign on the bathroom mirror stating "all employees must wash their hands". I guess I'll have to give them the benefit of the doubt. I definitely won't be coming back and maybe you should re-think your next option for your dinner out. read more

How I long for days when I was a kid in the tristate area and my family would meet my grandmother at the pub after church. We would enjoy some great soup and crackers while mom and dad would take grandma out for a pint. This place feels like a slice of a memory I'll always cherish.... The bar is long and nestles a few round ends that make it the main attraction for me. The seating is plenty but did I say it gets busy fast? Parking isn't bad however don't be surprised if you have to street park and wander up. Fish and Chips are a generous portion, their burger has to be one of the best in town, and did I say they can pour a proper Guinness? Yes they can! There is something on the menu for about anyone and they do not skimp on a thing. All the items are prepared fresh and I could stay here all night if it wasn't for the bill which can add up fast here. I would say it is reasonably priced for the portion however I wouldn't mind it if the portions were a tad smaller for a reduced price. Stepping in here you will be reminded of the Irish Pubs and even lose any sense that you are in Austin. It is a legit establishment with attention to the details. The bar staff are great and the grey-haired pony tailed guy in the Le Cog Sportif attire was a chill dude who makes you feel at home. I wish they had soccer on 24-7 however I will settle for the awesome music they play here. I think this place is a great replacement to what was here and the bar out back is perfect on a good day. Came in on a Saturday around 6 PM for a dinner for 5 and were able to luckily find a table as a walk in since there were no available reservations online. Our server was super sweet and attentive. Took our orders right away and food came out in no time! Captured photos of a few of our meals. The Fish and Chips comes with a massive fish the length of the plate! One person could definitely share this and still be full. We would have preferred the batter to not be so thick, but it had good taste with the little sprinkle of vinegar on each bite. The Reuben sandwich was also filling and perfect to share. It came originally with a side of fries, but we opted for a Cesar salad. Ended up charging an extra $3. The salad was so large and very delicious. Would definitely order again. The Reuben bread wasn't too thick and crispy with each bite. Lots of cheese pulls, meat was tender with flavor and the sauerkraut gave it that perfect hint of sour flavor. I really enjoyed the ambiance. It was a full house, but not overly loud for a bar and felt cozy with the dim lighting. Our table had a birthday to celebrate. I heard from my coworker that this place was really good and I felt it was just ok. I made a reservation and came with a group of four. We started with beef tartare, which I really enjoyed! Honestly, I have yet to have bad beef tartare so my enjoyment was to be expected. It comes with saltine crackers, which paired perfectly with the beef. BUT, the first server who put the dish on the table accidentally dropped one of the crackers on the table and I was expecting at least some kind of apology but they didn't acknowledge it or didn't care. They just left it and went away lol. From there, I felt that the other dishes fell short. The goulash (I actually didn't know what that was, but it's featured on the menu) is just macaroni that I can easily make at home. The ravioli was ok, but also nothing special. I didn't try my friend's burger but the extra bacon ($3 more) was so salty. The meal was overall mediocre and I didn't care to see the dessert menu. I'm a hugeeee dessert fan so that's pretty rare. It's cool how the main server gave us a bucket of caramel hard candies though. Also, it took the main server forever to check up on us. Water is self serve and comes from a pitcher at the table but we ran out of it pretty quickly since a lot of the dishes were salty. Water was not filled and it took forever to get our check. A classic tavern with American food! They have a small parking lot that fits about 10 cars but I was able to find free street parking around the corner no problem. Ambiance is great, I would recommend making a reservation if you want a table at a booth, otherwise it's high tops. I got the "Goop" burger which was their caramelized french onion cheese on top a burger. Honestly the burger was one of the smallest I've seen at a restaurant - even Whataburger's burgers are bigger. I think I might've enjoyed the Tavern burger better because it would come with all the toppings. The portion of fries was good. I added the thick cut bacon which was flavorful but too salty for my taste. Our waiter was nice but service missed the mark a bit and wasn't super consistent - they would refill our water sometimes and other times they'd just hand us another jug, and a couple of our plates were cleared but not all. If I were to come back, it'd be for their specials of the steak frites or half off burger (Wednesday and Monday respectively I believe). read more

I do like the ambiance, the mood lighting and decorations were decent but I think the dining table is a bit too small for four people (felt like you are sitting so close to each other and running out of space for food). The service was not great. The server dropped one of the saltine crackers and didn't even acknowledge it and left without saying anything. We kept running out of water because the food was so salty but no one seemed to care to give us more water without deliberately asking for it. The beef tartare was probably the most "alright" dish, the taste surprisingly reminds me of salsa - it combines well with saltine crackers. However, the main courses were such a let down. The grandma's goulash tasted like I can make it easily at home. The ravioli was a bit too salty and there weren't that many in there as well.
