The chili oil was spicy to me but not my husband so just be aware of your heat tolerance. The salt pop rocks combo is genius and so good that we wanted to take it home to season our steak. The edamame were also perfectly charred. Highly recommend! Lamb Pops ($28): Came with 3 lamb pops that were perfectly cooked and so delicious. Before the change, I would have rated this spot closer to a 4.5/5, so the new format feels like a noticeable step down. It can still be a fun place to visit with a group so everyone can try a variety of items, although some of the portions are so small that they can feel awkward to share. Considering the price of each plate, I'd say it's mainly worth visiting if Swift's Attic has been on your list and you're curious to try it for yourself. After listening to Sarah Sharp at the Elephant Room, 10 of us decided to wander upstairs and get a bit to eat. We tried many things including the prawn scampi, empanadas, salads, and a delicious passion fruit desert! Our table was so big, I wasn't able to get photos of everyone's food this time. I had the 1984 cocktail and others had mezcal, old fashions and other cocktails. They handled our random, last minute big table well. It seems like they often change their menu but overall it was a great experience and I found the dishes to be creative and a good variety. The labne, ebi sando, hamachi crudo, and shishito peppers were standouts for me though the others did not wow me. We also had a drink and with half off, these prices are really reasonable for downtown. The rest of the entree menu also seemed pretty reasonable. I have been to Swift's Attic, probably about 8 times in the last decade. I will tell you, this time, it was super disappointing. It definitely is not as good as it used to be, and the menu is clearly different from a while back - probably with a head chef change, but here is what we collectively noticed: EVERYTHING was way over salted and oily. The food was drowning in these two things and frankly was disappointing. The presentation is always great, but taste has plummeted and was over powered with salt. Yuck. I will not be going back any time soon, nor recommend. Service was friendly and attentive, but the food was below average and not as creative and flavorful as it used to be. This is a trendy lofted restaurant bar that offers delicious foods and an intimate dining experience I loved the interior look of the bar and restaurant. The space had plenty of seating, the decor was appealing, and it felt like an elevated dining experience Our server was phenomenal. She offered great suggestions, brought the food and check in a timely manner, and made sure our waters were always topped off The both the food and drink menus offer a variety of fine dining options with a twist. Some of the items sound bizarre like charred edamame with pop rocks, but it's all delicious Some tips: Consider order a variety of small plates and share them. Each small plate has enough bites to accommodate a party of at least 4-5 (so everyone gets a taste). The edamame, sirloin rolls, short ribs, and shrimp & grits were a must have. One selection that sounded intriguing in concept but failed in execution was the Ice Ball Cocktails. Essentially, these classic cocktails have most of the non alcoholic components frozen in a cocktail ice sphere, and the base alcohol is chilled by it. Yummy and curated menu at a great location downtown. Parking - typical downtown parking, best bet is to find a nearby parking garage. Was lucky enough to be able to park at my office nearby. Ambiance - lovedddd the interior of this place. Moody and the decor was great but not too dark or anything like that. Service - Our waiter was great but service was a bit slow. We were there 7pm on a Friday night and they did seem busy, and my group had fun chatting away, but it did seem to take a while to put in our orders, get our drinks and get our check. I recently visited this place with a friend. We found a last min reservation, at. 9:45. Initially when we were greeted by the host, she wasnt sure if the kitchen was even open - but since we had made the reservation - I guess they made an exception. A huge plus point that I'd give this place is that they have vegan options, and I mean optionsss not just one option or an expensive salad. I've avoided such places that looked like hole in the wall things, assuming they'd anyway not have anything catering to my needs - oh was I wrong. I wanted to like this place, but wow--what a letdown. The drinks? Mediocre at best. The food? Salty to the point of being borderline inedible. We ordered Brussels sprouts, short rib, squid, and the cheese board, and not a single dish was worth the price. The short rib was especially disappointing--dry and over-salted. The bartender at the Hilton Canopy recommended this spot for us as we were checking out various places to go in downtown for drinks and bites. My friend knows her bourbons and the bartender suggested this should be our first stop on our "tour". You walk up the stairs to Swift's Attic (downstairs is The Elephant Room jazz bar, which is also very cool) and the decor is a mixture of beautiful old wood with modern touches. The bourbons line the back of the bar wall so we sat at the bar to peruse the selections. Nate was the bartender and was extremely knowledgeable about all the bourbons. (He was a connoisseur himself!) My friend and him talked up various bourbons and bourbon "trees" of various distilleries. She wanted to try something different than what she had enjoyed in the past. Nate made some excellent suggestions I was told. I'm more a vodka drinker and Nate made me various specialty cocktails as I told him to surprise me (and boy, did he ever!) Since we were there for happy hour, Nate provided the associated menu and we selected the "Rillette & Focaccia" plate. It contained chicken, chorizo, a bourbon gel, avocado purée, pickled onions, pecans and toasted Focaccia bread. Nate said you spread the ingredients of choice on the bread and he recommended putting all the ingredients together as the flavors all complement each other. Boy, was he right again! We came here with a big group and had a prix fixe menu consisting of seven dishes. They had a dish for every group of four which made things easier to share although there wasn't enough food for everyone to feel full. First course was the mash ups followed by the rillette and focaccia. It felt like the latter was being used to replace and up-level standard complimentary bread with the chicken chorizo bourbon gel which would've made sense if it were more filling. The best dishes were the Ol' Dirty Galbi and the Fungus Among Us although the naming conventions were probably the highlight of the entire menu. The Shatta Cluck Up only had two pieces of chicken requiring more splitting among four. There was a prolonged gap between the main courses and dessert but there was also no check in on whether we wanted to add any more food. The service was slow and it took quite some time to order and to receive drinks, let alone refills on water. Eclectic, and quirky in a subtle manner, that's Swift's Attic. Look for the motif of creativity fused with eccentricity. After you climb to the top of the stairwell and enter the place, the portraits on the walls of birds dressed in suits will prep you for this. With this restaurant two stories atop the subterranean live jazz icon The Elephant Room, Swift's dates back to around 2012 or so. Decently old and certainly established by Austin standards. It's outlived so many great venues most likely for two reasons. The place itself is intriguing in that eccentric way, leading to an experience that pleases the imagination, and the food is eclectic and delicious. Peruse the menu and you'll identify that eccentricity in mere seconds. From the names of dishes, to their descriptions, to the inventive combination of ingredients. In that way, this Austin standby preserves the spirit of Old Austin. It seems to draw tourists, conventioneers, but perhaps even more devoted locals. It's worth a visit! read more

The drink was good but nothing spectacular, I also wish they used one big ice cube like you usually do for the old fashioned drink instead of a lot of small ice cubes. For food, we got the following items: - How We Roll: think sushi roll but with sirloin, this is a must for meat lovers! - Sesame Shishitos: I loved this one! Highly recommend if you're looking for good vegetarian options. - Fungus Among Us: another great vegetarian option! A little on the salty side but I enjoyed it nonetheless. - Don't Call Me Chicken: crispy and flavorful, also loved the garlic potatoes on the side! - Texas Fight: medley of different meats, my boyfriend loved this one! I came here with a group of friends, so I was able to try a few different things here! I ordered "Swift Kick in the Chicken" for my entree: airline chicken breast, truffle tahini sauce, topped with truffle caviar, with diced fingerling potatoes, asparagus, and pickled mustard seed on the side. The chicken was cooked perfectly: tender and flavorful. The tahini sauce had plenty of rich truffle flavor in it and it complemented the chicken very well. The caviar on top elevated the dish and made it high class. The fingerling potatoes were browned and delicious, and also had some sautéed onions and sweet peppers mixed in. I was very satisfied with my entree! My friends shared the "how we roll" (marinated sirloin sushi), lamb meatballs, Seoul food (grilled shrimp with kimchi grits), and charred edamame (with pop rocks) and loved all of it, although the clear consensus was that the sushi was the best and the lamb meatball was the worst. I did try a bite of the lamb meatball and thought it was tasty and seasoned well. For dessert, we shared a peach cobbler churro which was amazing: the churro was crunchy and not too sweet. The honey bourbon ice cream and candied pecans went perfectly with the peach, and there were great contrasts: soft and crunchy, hot and cold. We also shared the chocolate tart: it tasted okay, kind of like a brownie, but we all wished we ordered 2 churros instead. We came here for dinner and was pleasantly surprised by the food! We started off with the How we roll-with sirloin, kimchi rice, and galbi sauce. It was really good! We weren't sure what to expect, but it caught us off guard. For our entrees, we got the halibut and the baseball sirloin. Both dishes were delicious! The halibut was crusted with pistachios. The charred butter lettuce and the Ube tuile complemented the fish well and was an nice added touch. The sirloin was cooked perfectly. The purple potato purée was delicious and I wish we had more! For dessert, we got the papi churro which was just ok. The dessert options were limited. It was either the churros or a homemade snickers bar essentially. We came for drinks and small plates and at the first glance thought the space was neat. It has a quirky yet industrial vibe. But the lighting in the space is really awful, imagine hanging a Monet just to shine the light elsewhere leaving the beautiful water lilies in the dark. That's what the lighting here did to the chefs creations, I had to enhance the pics to bring out the beautiful color of my drink. Oops am I thinking too much through my designer hat ... it definitely has the bones to be a lot more, esp. in terms of the overall experience. Ok over to the food ...
