On my trip to Austin, I knew I had to try Kristen Kish's restaurant as a big fan from her days of being a contestant on Top Chef. I was so happy that her restaurant in the Line Hotel (first floor) was absolutely delicious! The dining room was dim vibes, we saw a more senior fellow using his phone for a light to read the menu. They actually turned the lights a bit brighter towards the end of our dinner. Really cute dining room with different styled seating, just very sleek and chic. Staff was really friendly, prompt, perfectly timed everything and very detailed about every dish. Those ingredient descriptions aren't easy and they were all so well informed! Many recommended the grilled sourdough and I understand it. It's a really unique spin on bread, but we got our dose with the Burrata appetizer ($18). I'm a cheese addict so always love a big ball of dairy, but this dish was pretty special. We were really impressed with the accompanying components which melded together perfectly. Highly recommended. For our mains, my friend and I continued the creamy carbs and had the Rabbit Ragu Fusili ($24) and Lasagna ($26). Both are great dishes but the Lasagna won of the two for me, thanks in small part to the fun & artistic cheesy crust. The dish was just top tier classic dish with an inventive spin to elevate it to just the right level. Get the lasagna! I wish I had room for dessert as the grilled sourdough ice cream was so intriguing. But alas, I couldn't do it but hope you'll give that a go and let me know how it was! Cheers to Arlo Grey!

Before we get into the food, people are the first interaction that patrons receive upon walking into an establishment. Let's just say Brandon (Bartender) and David (server who came later) left such an amazing impression on my family. Their passion for their craft and work translated to an amazing experience and meal that we still talk about today. Thank you for making our holidays that much more special to the two of you. Food wise, hands down, spectacular. All their items have such amazing flavors and texture. They each expressed restraint and balance of ingredients that highlights the collective dish. It was so propelling that my family, all 13 me members, voted to cancel our following evening plans to revisit the establishment for a full on meal. Restaurant is clean, beautiful, and well maintained by the staff. We shared our experience with Gwyneth, the manager, and encouraged her to continue holding this standard at this establishment. If you are looking for amazing food, top notch staff (like David and Brandon), and memories to cherish, this place will be the topic of discussion and recollection for years to come. Great job team! Love what you have done for us :)

Arlo Grey was one of the highlights of our Christmas trip to Austin. The restaurant is located inside the beautiful LINE Hotel, with a modern and minimalist design. All the staff members were friendly and professional. Brandon and David went above and beyond to create a memorable experience for our family. One could tell how much they care about their crafts and guest satisfaction. Food and drinks were amazing, from concepts to execution. We tried almost everything on their winter menu and all of the desserts. My personal favorites were all of their pastas, sourdough ice cream, and monkey bread. Thank you for the food, the company, and the memories, Arlo Grey team! We look forward to coming back.

First time in Austin and I had to check Kristen's Kish Restaurant. If you don't know her, she's a Top Chef Winner and the host of the show. Well for sure she knows what she's doing. Her food was so delicious. The roasted grouper with that sauce was amazing. On top of the delicious food, the service was fantastic. The vibe in the restaurant was very chill and great location. This is a must if you're a foodie.

Didn't have any expectations for this restaurant, but I was quite disappointed. The menu selection is pretty small. The restaurant was only 30% full on a Saturday night but it was pretty loud. I couldn't see the colors of my dishes because it was so dark. The food didn't stand out, but it wasn't terrible to eat. The best thing I can say about the dessert, was that it was different. The Flor De Aplos non-alocoholic drink was probably the best thing I had here. It's a berry infused drink with a drop of a vinegar-like substance, giving it a hint of sweetness and a touch of tang. The complexion allows me to pace the drink as I eat my meals. The Roasted Acorn Squash was my starter. The squash was similar to a steamed potato without the heavy starch. Not sure if the squash itself was intentionally bland, but the surrounding elements were pretty neat. The acorns and cilantro gave it a nice texture and contrasting colors. I wish the spicy bits were a bit stronger, but that's admittedly just my preference. The puree is definitely the star of the plate, giving each bite a level of sweetness and savoriness. I had the Half Chicken Milanese for my main. The meat had a nice cook and was splendidly moist. It was a bit too salty for my liking, but it was passable. However the accompanied vegetables felt out of place and random. I appreciate the variety in fiber, but the combination of Okra, Corn, and Cauliflower didn't compliment the protein. I couldn't tell if the Milanese had a special preparation outside of the breading and salt (since the restaurant was too dark); it would have been nice if the chicken had some acidity or was sprinkled with something. The Monkey bread was a pretty big disappointment. I've never had Monkey bread before, so it's possible that I'm just not a fan of the dessert. Either way, it was really lacking in the sweet department. Pairing it with ice cream (like a cream puff) would really elevate this dessert. On top of that, the boba was incredibly stale. Was it intentional? I'm really trying to give the dessert the benefit of the doubt, but I would've tragically been more happier with a regular scoop of sorbet. All in all, the dishes were pretty expensive and left more to be desired. I'm actually interested in trying the pasta dishes, but I did not want my first impressions of this restaurant to be their pasta tapas. However my curiosity is not strong enough for me to want to come back.

    Burrata

Terrific burrata and Rigatoni! Super friendly service, and excellent cocktails. Would come back here any day.....

    Oxtail and cheese ravioli

I am so shocked by the rating? I went last Thursday and had the best experience. We ordered the sourdough, burrata, oxtail and cheese ravioli (pictured), burger, and rigatoni. Everything we tried was incredible and I can't stop telling people about our experience. Our waiter was knowledgeable about everything as well.

I loved loved loved my experience at Arlo Grey. I was in Austin for work stay at the Line hotel where Arlo Grey is located. The food is amazing! We started with the sourdough bread which it is a must have. The pasta dishes we had for the main were also so delicious and unique. Both perfectly cooked and such good flavors. The only complaint I have is that I couldn't try more things! I hope I get to be back in Austin to try the other items on the menu I would highly recommend Arlo Grey for any occasion, but especially for special occasions! It will not disappoint

Came here for dinner on a Friday evening. We made a reservation but it doesn't seem like we would've had too much of a wait if we didn't. It was a fairly rainy evening so I'm guessing this was on the lighter side traffic wise. We shared 5 small plates and overall had a good experience! I liked the way they thoughtfully brought out the dishes in groups or individually to make the meal more of an experience. Fancier new American usually isn't my jam but I enjoyed my meal here more than I was expecting to Our favorite dish of the meal was the fried steamed buns. The buns had a fantastic lightly sweet and almost creamy taste. I loved the Gruyère that the broccoli was served in. It takes a lot for me to call the meat in a dish secondary but it really paled in comparison to the rest of the dish The grilled oyster mushrooms had a really good lightly spiced flavor and rich texture. The cauliflower I thought paired really nicely with the hot mustard aioli. Our last 2 dishes were definitely the weakest. The crispy bits of the lasagna were really tasty but overall very salty. I wasn't a fan of the texture they got on the crispy rice, and I think a different add in other than green beans would've worked better. The non green bean bites had an interesting almost breakfast sandwich like taste that I enjoyed Overall we had a good experience! Probably won't be top of mind to come back to, but if it's something that caught your eye I think it worth checking out

This was on my list for a while - so glad I finally made the commitment. Everything from start to finish was perfect. We started off with the burrata and cauliflower. The burrata had this amazing sunchoke confit and we ate every bite. I had been trying to convince my parents to join the cauliflower revolution and this convinced them. Just the perfect amount of crisp and the hot honey aioli was a match made in heaven. The pork chop and the rigatoni were our main courses and the rigatoni was such a hit!

We were visiting Austin and decided to check out Arlo Grey (my whim! - huge Kristen Kish fan). Started off with the grilled sourdough with burrata and olives. I ordered the fusilli with rabbit and my husband ordered the pork chop. I had a bite of my SIL's brick chicken too. Everything was delicious. Service and ambience were great. So happy we went!

I loved Arlo Grey! We came for our anniversary and the food was spectacular! In true transparency, Foodwise, I would probably would rate it as a 4.5 stars because my non-sophisticated palette husband had difficulty comprehending the menu. The dishes are very unique and if you like more straight-forward food, this may not be the dining experience for you. We ordered the fried cauliflower (so delicious!), Bucatini (this one was a bit unique for my palette even), and the Berkshire Pork Chop (so tender and perfectly flavored) with a side of French fries. Since it was our anniversary, the server even comped us a slice of Fluffy cheesecake, which I thought was delicious because I love matcha flavor. My husband was not impressed because it was a fluffy, more Japanese style cheesecake and he was expecting a NY style cheesecake. Service, as mentioned, was friendly, but it was definitely an experience. The staff even wrote us a Happy Anniversary card, great attention to detail. We had a reservation for 7:30, but did not finish our meal until 10:30 because the food took a long time to all come out. The food came out in courses and we shared all the dishes, as was recommended. The coursed meal and dim lighting definitely made it a very romantic atmosphere. It is a great place for a fancy date night or a celebration.

We had dinner at The kitchen in Austin and it was a failed. So my brother suggested that we get our nightcaps at his hotel The Line. We ended up ordering most of the appetizers on their menu. The bar staff were great and our food runner David was so good at his job that made the experience more satisfying. He explained every single dish in detail and so passionate about them which added another element onto the experience. Drinks were so delicious and so we decided to come back for a full dinner the next night. They didn't disappoint. Everything was perfectly executed and the foods were delicious. It was such a great way to end our family vacation in Austin, on a high note. We'll come back next time we visit Austin.

Ask the Community - Arlo Grey by Kristen Kish

    Is reservation recommended or required?

Yes, you will most likely need a reservation in advance.

Has anyone met Chef Kish? Going there for my bday this Sat and would love to meet her. I am a big fan.

Yes!!! Sometimes she isn't there, maybe call ahead and check :)

Is there a parking lot or street parking?

    Street+ valet parking

Do you need a reservation for the week days?

    Recommended but not required.

Is this location 18&up? Will you be open this weekend? Cover charge? Thanks in advance!😊

It's also a restaurant, so I don't believe there is an age restriction if you're ordering food. There's no cover charge and I'd imagine they would be open at the weekend.

Can one see the flight of the bats when dining here? If so what time is best and what seats? Thx in advance.

The bartender claimed I was drunk and cut me off anyway. She was clearly into me, and the bartender kept jumping in trying to talk to her too (instead of doing his job making drinks). He was doing all sorts of things to try and flirt with her and make her laugh: pulling out and showing her buckets of pre mixed cocktails, running and sliding under the bar, etc. She was engaging with both of us , and right in the middle of that, I get cut off out of nowhere. No explanation other than claiming I looked drunk, which I very clearly wasn't. It felt very clear what was going on--he wanted me out of the way. I left and asked the bouncer on my way out if I seemed drunk. This was literally two minutes later. He said no, not at all, and asked me why I would even ask that. I then told him exactly what happened and asked him to let the owner or whoever was in charge know about this extremely unprofessional conduct so they can discipline the bartender. His response was that the bartender has discretion to cut anyone off, and let me know the bartender is supposedly married so he couldn't have been flirting with any of the customers. Well, sounds like his logic is flawed--not only COULD he flirt with his customers, he WAS, and was therefore cheating. I hope his wife finds out. This is perfectly representative of Austin customer service lately and not normal in other places. I was in Tampa for an entire month earlier this year and this would've been unthinkable there. An hour ago it wasn't raining, but now it's pouring. A few months ago, I heard of a newer bar and experience called Equipment Room just right off of South Congress. Music means everything to me. Nothing can express emotions and instill a feeling in 3 minutes like a song can. I live for that. Equipment Room is inherently Japanese in concept. Existing in Japan for over 50 years, listening bars combine high fidelity audio equipment with impressively crafted cocktails and alcohol combining the passion of music in a space to gather with comfortable chairs and a beautiful atmosphere. The concept has expanded westward as all cool things inevitably do, but I would never think a spot would be successful in Austin like it would be in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and so on. As I back my car into a parking spot on South Congress, I grab the umbrella out of my trunk and walk my girlfriend and me to the entrance trying to not get ourselves soaked in the process. This is not the first time we have tried to go to Equipment Room. We tried to get a walk-in table just to see out of morbid curiosity and that was a failure. I booked her and me a table for this night and I was madly looking forward to it. As we got to the small entrance, we were introduced to the hostess who brought us from the stairs into the main underground space and to our seats on the couch in a large wraparound sofa with other parties sitting near us. The music is faint from the entrance, but once you walk through the main walkway, a wave of sound hits your eardrums. You're immediately engrossed into the music like walking into a concert hall or putting a fresh pair of headphones on for the first time. As we sat down, selections from Outkast's Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik were playing through the speakers. Our hostess introduced us to their "User Manual" (their menu) where it contained all the snacks and drinks you could get your grubby hands on. There's more than just drinks and food on the menu. The first page introduces the concept and gives a few house rules. The second page shows all the equipment this so-called room has, from the premium Klipsch speakers, their preamps and amplifiers as well as their turntables and mixers. It's a dream page for music nerds. I want a $15k speaker in my apartment, but those noise complaints would never end. Our waitress came by shortly to give us water and take our order. Their menu is quite expansive, but the main pages we were told to check out were their A-side drinks or the classics and their B-side drinks, which are more experimental. We had to go with experimental for starters because who knows when you'll get to try something similar again. I started with a Goca Dünya while my girlfriend ordered a Deceptacon. The Goca Dünya was a vodka based floral drink with pistachio foam and Amaro Nonino, an Italian herbal liqueur. The Deceptacon was a rum-based cacao drink with a touch of lime and mint. It took a little time for our drinks to come out, clearly, as they are quite intricate. I loved my drink, bluntly. The pistachio foam was a great balance to the herbal flavors at the bottom. My girlfriend and I continued to enjoy each other's company as the music continued. The space we were in was decorated with posters and memorabilia from legendary artists coming through Austin and some general music decor like that purple album from that Prince guy. The DJ-curator that night was on a tear playing incredible soul music holding the bar hostage with a taste of funk. Jimmy Smith came next before transitioning to a few tracks from Bobbie Gentry. The last albums he pulled out were Steely Dan's Aja (a stone cold classic) and Stevie Wonder's Songs in the Key of Life (a top 10 album of all time). Not only was he playing classics like Isn't She Lovely, but he threw down some deeper cuts like Black Man and Contusion. Incredible. We both got another drink with my girlfriend getting their A-Side Espresso Martini while I got the Brown Sugar from their B-Sides. It was a seaweed and mushroom infused whiskey with a few more bells and whistles and it was super unique. Quite a bit of their menu is Japanese-inspired in homage to the originators of listening bars. This includes Japanese beer, sake, and Japanese-inspired food and beverages on their menu. Very cool. The worst part of the night came when our hour and 45 minute reservation came to a close. I could've stayed there for another 3 hours and never grown tired, but with how popular this space has become, they gotta kick you out at some point. This is an experience you have to have. It's worth it. I'll be strolling back in soon enough because there is nothing like this in Austin and it's truly a special space. RIYL: Actively listening to music.

Loved this place so much..!!! If you want to go somewhere to just lounge with low lighting and have…read moresome delicious drinks with great music in the background , this is place is it! They play no digital music and their speakers are installed throughout the whole building. The sound is great! The menu was so cute and on theme. The furniture and decor is mid century modern. I went here for my birthday and they gave my table a round of Sake shots, which was nice! My table ordered drinks: the Brown Sugar, Goca Dünya, Suffer No Fool (non alcoholic), Vitamin C. They were all delicious and they did not skimp on the alcohol! It was well balanced! I seriously recommend the Goca Dünya--that pistachio foam was addictive! For food, we got the Cheese board to have something to pick on and we demolished it, haha. It came with marmalade and crackers. The cheeses were great, along with the dried fruits and nuts. The cheese selections seem to rotate every other season, which is cool.
