Olamaie is an elevated Southern restaurant known for its modern takes on classic comfort dishes, and it's housed in a restored building that has earned 1 Michelin star. We were in Austin for Formula 1 weekend and came here for dinner after the race. Our reservations were at the bar, which was a great experience. Our bartender was friendly, engaging, and really knew the menu inside and out. The menu is a three-course meal (plus dessert), and every single dish was fantastic. For me, the standouts were the beef tartare and the 18oz Wagyu ribeye. The ribeye comes off the bone, is super filling, and absolutely worth the extra $85. They are known for their biscuits and honestly, they are the best I've ever had. The whole meal felt special, and I'm so glad I got to experience it.

Came on a Monday evening to celebrate my husband's birthday. Olamaie made it extra special! Service is top notched and the restaurant itself is cute and quaint. I felt like I was enjoying a meal at someone's home. My favorites were the biscuits, beef belly, and the catfish. Quote possibly the best biscuits I've ever had. We had the chocolate sorbet for dessert and it was very large and rich. We got a free ice cream sandwich for my husbands bday and it was SO YUMMY. Fair warning - the portions are massive! If I were to go back, I would have done 1-2 first course, 1 main course to share and 1-2 sides. We ended up getting 2 of everything PLUS dessert. We enjoyed the leftovers the next day!

Olamaie was an unbelievable experience. I definitely understand why it won a Michelin star. It was a 4 course meal so my wife and I were able to try a lot of dishes. Each course was different and unique. The flavors were amazing! The drinks were fantastic between the cocktails, wine, beer and non-alcoholic options. The waiter even provided recommendations of drinks to pair with courses. As it was my wife's birthday, the host offered to take a picture of us outside by the sign, which we appreciated. And they treated us with a nice dessert to celebrate her birthday as well. The restaurant is in a refurbished house and provided a small, close-knot space that we thoroughly enjoyed. A bit pricey, but worth it. I'd recommend this place to anyone!

Olamaie now deserves a spot on one of my top favorite restaurants in Austin for special occasions. The service was wonderful from beginning to end. I opted for a drink called Birthday Suit and it's a local spin on an espresso martini using Desnudo beans. It has a creamy miso flavor and was really perfect. All the dishes were incredible minus the tuna crudo. The crudo fell flat. It was cubed tuna with watermelon and seemed incomplete compared to the rest of the dishes. It lacked flavor and presentation. Highly recommend you get the beef tartar first course instead! The biscuits were of course a hit. I went with 4 other people so basically got to try the entire menu. The chicken liver mousse and chicken were fantastic too. The dessert surprised me and I really loved it. Perfect texture and flavor without being too sweet. I can't wait to come back and try new dishes.

Omg I had the most wonderful dining experience the food was all incredible here. First off we started with some cocktails at the bar and the espresso martini with brown butter alcohol was delish and the most incredible espresso martini I've ever had. Then going into the meal I started off with chicken liver mousse. Followed by beef tartare, the short rib with grits and lastly a cake. I loved the unique flavors and southern twist they had. The servers were polite and knowledgeable making sure our drinks were full. A very organized dinner service and wonderful experience.

I'll start with the one positive thing I have to say, our bartender was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The food took extremely long to come out. Between every dish was a minimum of 30-40 minutes, between the 4 courses it took us at least 2 1/2 hours to get through. The food was genuinely not good. We came in with high hopes and got one of everything to try. Food was either too salty, or had a weird taste especially the meat and fish we ordered. I don't know how to describe it besides weird and off the putting. (Side note: having cauliflower as a 2nd course out of 4 by itself and some sauce is INSANE). Even the dessert was awful, I don't remember the last time I audibly went ew after eating a dessert, so I guess that in itself is impressive. Not to mention the insane $1200 price tag on it. I've tried several Michelin star restaurants and this is the first time I've questioned the meaning of it. Cool bartenders though but will never come back.

    Tasty cocktails all around!

I can understand why this has one Michelin Star; fantastic service and innovate dishes. My server was amazing; she was friendly, connected on a personal level with ease; and just something positively unexpected at most Michelin places these days. Most spots tend to prioritize the aura of a Michelin vibe versus true connection. A nice surprise here. The food was as I would expect, wonderfully cooked, prepared and served. The oysters were tasty, although I would have preferred more seasoning and pickiness. The lamb tartare was seasoned with boldness and had a nice Moroccan flare to it. I did, however, find the texture of the tartare a bit less tender than I would have preferred. Perhaps, though, that is just lamb tartare ... this was my first time having lamb versus (on of my favorite) beef tartare. The chicken I had was very nice, although, nothing overly impressive to me. I feel it needed some deeper elements of texture (perhaps more of a crust or something to have some crispness to it). Lastly, the biscuit. Yeah -- that biscuit alone is worth the trip, in my opinion. It's unique because the inside is soft, buttery, and everything you want in a biscuit. However they got the top and bottom of the biscuit extremely crispy. So delicious! Served with a rich, honey, butter. What's not to love??

The four-course prix fixe dinner experience was best in class.
    Marie C.

Olamaie's 4 course prix fixe dinner that we had last night was simply divine. We dined with another couple, and everything we had was fresh, creative and refined. For special occasions, I can't think of a better place to experience a first class dinner in Austin.

Pro Tip: Michelin 1 star. Earlier reservations feel like you have the place to yourself and it's much quieter. As expected, an exquisitely exceptional experience. There will be a service charge that it's included, and anything additional is greatly appreciated. Listen, their service is worth the additional tip. Careful attention and delivery of menu recommendations and table service. Claps to Daniel for leading the way through the menu, starting us off with two orders of the Class (you'll need one for each person) and the Cauliflower for starters, and then two entrees with a side of biscuits. I went with the Golden Fried Catfish and was not at all disappointed. Will. Get. Again. Perfectly crisped and finished with a beurre blanc sauce with caviar. Table service will include a small bottle of Tabasco to cut and balance the flavors with some acidity. And the Biscuits? Oh my. Best in town. Period. While their small biscuit shop, Lil Ola, has needed to unexpectedly close down, they do look forward to revisiting the concept. They are that good. I look forward to returning and trying some new options, including their cocktails and desserts.

First, let me start off with the food. We knew it was a Michelin star restaurant southern style. I really didn't know what to expect because it's a rotating menu. We were very impressed with the food. Every dish was good. Very creative menu. I really don't have anything negative to say. Other than I was in a food coma because there was so much food between the four courses. The ambience was stellar. The restaurant is located inside an old home which is renovated. The service was outstanding. They have a lot of workers floating around, ensuring that your water is always refilled and you're always receiving a new set of silverware.

Ummmmm okay so this place has a Michelin star!!! I have never been to a Michelin star restaurant and a few in Austin were recently awarded one. Many of them were BBQ - which because I'm vegetarian I won't be trying but this place did have a vegetarian option for me to check out! I got the gumbo and it was delicious, with just the right amount of spice to give it a kick without being overwhelming. The flavors were rich and hearty, and the mushrooms added a wonderful texture and earthy depth to the dish. It was a satisfying and tasty meal all around! We also had the cabbage and the rum cake for dessert. I would not normally think of cabbage as being tasty but this one was. The rum cake was a little stronger than you would think it would be, but it was good that way. It was pricey but I had fun here and I'm glad I tried it!!

We dined at Olamaie for our anniversary and had a great dinner. We were greeted with an anniversary card and small complementary drinks. The space is small and I enjoyed the intimate dining room. Our waitress was working her first night there but it didn't show, she gave great suggestions and provided good service. While we were mid-meal there, they were officially awarded a Michelin star, which was a cool experience. I expected more celebration but the staff played it cool. We ordered three apps, the biscuits, and two entrees which was probably one app too many. My favorite were the fish dip appetizer and the catfish entree. The rabbit was great but a bit salty for me. Overall I thought the food was good and different but not quite in my top meals in this city. The cocktails were good as well, the Fringe Contender was a stand out.

This was a fantastic experience. Everything was hot and fresh from the kitchen. Had the fixed menu. Wagyu was the best. But everything was good. Fast service. Good drinks. Friendly staff.

We waited maybe 15 minutes at the walk-in line as others progressively started to pile on behind us. Then again, even people in the reservation line were waiting. This is definitely the kind of place that wants you to wait. The kind of place that wants to build a line outdoors to intrigue onlookers. We were treated nicely, but we definitely could have gotten in right away. By the time we walked in, the place was probably at 60% capacity. It was standing room only at the bar, but not overcrowded by any means. There is a dress code, but it's not entirely clear what it is. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was extremely disappointing and honestly embarrassing. I went with two friends, and the atmosphere was completely different from what I had previously experienced. It was very crowded and felt more like a loud bar than a speakeasy. Our waiter was mediocre at best and only came to our table about three times during the hour and a half we were there (there's a time limit). Our drinks were brought by someone else, and I had to wave him down multiple times just to order or ask for water. It was clear he was much more focused on a large party than our table. When it came time to pay, my friends and I decided I would just put everything on my card. After I handed him my card and filled in the tip, he told me my card didn't work and asked the other two girls if they had a card instead. I told him it shouldn't have been declined, but I did have another card, which he took, clearly upset. That's when he told me there was a mandatory 20% tip that had to be added to the bill. At that point, I realized he had lied about my card. I had left a 15% tip because the service simply didn't warrant more, especially for what felt like bar service. He brought this up in front of my friends, who then started asking what was going on. I explained that he was refusing to run my card unless I changed the tip to 20%. Not wanting to make a big scene in front of my friends, I reluctantly agreed, even though I told him it was dishonest. To "make up for it," he later brought me a cookie. After this incident, I called the establishment at least five times and left messages, but management never returned my calls. To make matters worse, the charge from the first credit card, the one he claimed was "declined", was pending on my account for three days. So clearly it was never declined. Very disappointing. It's sad to see such a great establishment allow this kind of behavior from their staff. If you go, be aware.

I was at the bar talking to a girl while waiting to get a drink (the wait was long because the service is very slow, despite the bar not being very busy at all). She was clearly into me, and the bartender kept jumping in trying to talk to her too (instead of doing his job making drinks). He was doing all sorts of things to try and flirt with her and make her laugh: pulling out and showing her buckets of pre mixed cocktails, running and sliding under the bar, etc. She was engaging with both of us , and right in the middle of that, I get cut off out of nowhere. No explanation other than claiming I looked drunk, which I very clearly wasn't. It felt very clear what was going on--he wanted me out of the way. I left and asked the bouncer on my way out if I seemed drunk. This was literally two minutes later. He said no, not at all, and asked me why I would even ask that. I then told him exactly what happened and asked him to let the owner or whoever was in charge know about this extremely unprofessional conduct so they can discipline the bartender. His response was that the bartender has discretion to cut anyone off, and let me know the bartender is supposedly married so he couldn't have been flirting with any of the customers. Well, sounds like his logic is flawed--not only COULD he flirt with his customers, he WAS, and was therefore cheating. I hope his wife finds out. This is perfectly representative of Austin customer service lately and not normal in other places. I was in Tampa for an entire month earlier this year and this would've been unthinkable there. I'm not coming back.

I felt the vibe instantly, like as soon as I put one foot in the door. Magical, sophisticated, worldly, wonderful and more were the feelings that spontaneously hit me. The dark and elegant decor, lighting, design, & layout made me feel as though I were in a high-end Tokyo cocktail lounge. The front room as I mentioned is an intimate bar and lounge area with artwork adorning the walls. It's a modern, minimalist, and sleek space. The artwork is ever-changing (every couple of months or so) and the cocktail menu changes right long with it. Note: artwork is available for purchase. What an absolutely glorious way of combining different mediums (liquid art vs physical art). The craft cocktails & mocktails are the epitome of works of art. I've had great cocktails and mocktails elsewhere but honestly I'd be hard pressed to find anything on this level. You're taken into an entirely different realm just watching the genius of mixologists. It's mesmerizing watching them hone their craft. In the back of the lounge is an enclave of eclectic art and other pieces that then leads you to Konbini, the sushi bar. It's an industrial, warehouse vibe with a long counter that screams hip, Tokyo inspired, late-night eatery. Service is impeccable and welcoming at this cosmopolitan venue. It's truly an amazing experience.

The bartenders are incredibly talented and creative. It's so fun to sit at the bar and watch them craft the specialty drinks. They had a clarified mai tai with tequila that I loved the first visit and the signature papercut cocktail is refreshing and delicious too! On my recent visit, I tried the balkan negroni and WOW - so good. And so detailed! Really sweet people and a very cool space. Great music too and just a perfect ambiance. 10/10.
