Stylish and modern place for a nice meal. The drinks were really nice and the staff is friendly, I think our server was Xavier. It's a great option if you want to try different snacks. I'd definitely recommend getting the bread and or fries with whatever you order. The lobster butter was definitely the star of the show. The Crudo was nice and refreshing. The crab roll was tasty and the Bronzino was nice and crispy. It's a little pricey so you're kind of paying for the vibes too.
Fish shop has such a fantastic happy hour, we love the fish sandwich and the burger. We go the lobster toast this time and the clam chowder to try it out. Everything was so so good and the service is always quick and friendly. We also love that they are on inkind! They also give you a little fortune fish with your check which is the cutest addition. The decor is light and airy!
I want to be upfront and say that my nephew is actually a sous chef here, but this is not a solicited review by any means. He was off that day and simply brought us here to eat. I am sharing this because the food and experience genuinely earned it. Everyone was warm and welcoming from the moment we walked in and the ambiance honestly reminded me of being back home in the Pacific Northwest, which I was not expecting in Austin but loved. Now let me talk about the food because there is a lot to cover. We started with cocktail shrimp, oysters and a Caesar salad that I am still thinking about. The Caesar comes out in this big beautiful bowl of whole romaine boats, already dressed and finished with freshly grated Parmesan. They suggest you eat it with your hands and honestly that made it even better. It was my favorite thing on the table and that is saying a lot given everything else we ordered. We also got the Nashville Hot Fried Oyster Toast and let me just say, if you are not a spice person, proceed with caution. I thought it would just have a little kick but Nashville hot means Nashville HOT. That said it was absolutely delicious and I would order it again. The cocktail shrimp were fresh in a way that actually surprised me, and I am from the Pacific Northwest so I know fresh seafood. I was not expecting that level of quality but I should not have been surprised given the caliber of everything else. I ordered the fish and chips which featured fried Pacific rockfish and Irish chips. These are not your standard french fries. They come out in these thick long cuts that are perfectly crispy on the outside and taste like creamy mashed potatoes on the inside. I did not know how to explain them in the moment and honestly I still do not but they were incredible. My husband & nephew went with the burger and loved it. They customized theirs with a fried egg on top which looked amazing. And for dessert my husband had the bread pudding, which he said just melted in his mouth. He has had bread pudding plenty of times but said this version with the freshly made whipped cream was on another level entirely. The whole experience was great. The vibe, the food, the service, all of it. My nephew has great taste and clearly works somewhere special.
Cute little seafood place. All of the branding is very apt and aesthetic. The best thing on the menu might just be the halibut crudo, it's amazing! They also have matchbooks if you're a collector
Good seafood is hard to come by in Austin but this place has it! Although it will cost you pretty penny, I would say worth it. The vibe in here is fancy but also coastal and cozy. They did a great job for how small the space is inside. Service was extremely personable and helpful. We started with the Caesar salad and lobster toast. Caesar salad was great but nothing out of the ordinary. The lobster toast was something else. The bread was soft but toasty, the lobster was perfectly cooked and the sauce was buttery creamy and savory. Lobster toast is a must order. I also tried just one boiled shrimp because it was almost $7 per shrimp, and it was the best shrimp I've had in Austin. Perfectly cooked. I wish they had them on a happy hour menu. For my entree, I tried their famous fish sandwich. It was good but not great. The fish batter was crunchy but the whole sandwich was too salty. It was good to try but would definitely try something else next time. We also tried the branzino. The fish was cooked perfect but the dish was also very salty. Overall, really liked the vibes in this place and the appetizers we had. Definitely want to come back and try more. They often have specials that look great and the happy hour also looks great. Came in on a weekday and was able to sit at the bar right away without a reservation. Parking is just street parking on E 6th.
We had the burger, fish sandwich, oysters, and spaghetti and clams - everything was amazing. Spaghetti and clams was the best thing we tried, can't miss menu item. Fish sandwich was flames as well. Got a nice bottle of white wine and was the perfect evening. Service was great too and her recommendations were amazing.
Good sea food spot with a bit of unconventional dishes. Service here is quite good. Everything inside is fish themed. The food and drinks is on the higher side but it's still worth a try. We already pregamed elsewhere so we couldn't get a chance to try the drinks. It seemed like reservations get filled on weekends towards mid shift but we were able to get a walk in at an earlier time.
We walked in right at opening on Sunday afternoon and were able to get a table for two. The restaurant is decorated in an everything fish. It was not busy and we got our food somewhat fast, but also we only ordered two things total because we already had drinks and some oysters elsewhere just earlier. We ordered lavash which was not bad but a little plain. I felt like maybe a bit more citrus would benefit it. Schnitzel was interesting and also quite filling. I don't have much more to say about this restraint but overall it was a good experience.
We had a great experience at Fish Shop. Sitting at the bar we realized halfway through the meal that the owner was tending bar / serving us our drinks. Very friendly and very proud of her establishment (I would be too!). It's a cute little spot, perfect for date night. We actually loved the sound / music playing -- we complimented her on the placement of the speakers in the restaurant and how great the sound was coming from the speaker (my husband is a former long-time musician so he notices stuff like that). Everything we ordered was delicious -- save your pennies and splurge.
The Fish Shop is a super cute seafood restaurant in East Austin with a solid and varied menu. They also offer a fantastic happy hour, and their Filet-O-Fish-style burger is easily one of my favorite items--I've come back for it more than once. A few dishes were more hit or miss for me. The clam chowder was thinner than I prefer and had a sour, lemony flavor that didn't quite work for me. The crudo was also inconsistent, with some pieces tasting overly salty. On the other hand, most of the oysters were fresh and enjoyable, and I loved the lobster toast topped with caviar. The portion is quite small, but it's delicious. Overall, The Fish Shop can be a little inconsistent, but it's still worth trying, especially if you're open to ordering a variety of dishes and finding your favorites.
Went out for a night on the town in East Austin and stopped in for happy hour at Fish Shop. I've been wanting to check out their Filet O'Fish Shop sandwich and it delivered. This sandwich is worth every penny. A beautifully fried and crispy beer battered Pacific rock cod filet, laid on a bed of house made pickles and thinly shredded cabbage, topped with American cheese and a beautiful house made five herb tartar sauce. It all comes together on a clarified butter toasted brioche bun fresh from Sour Duck Market. This is easily the fanciest fish sandwich I've had and it just shot to the top of my list of some pretty amazing fish sandwiches. It paired perfectly with a great $7 house Martini. I will return to try some of their other amazing looking seafood on my next outing to Austin.
Lowering my review. We went here on a Sunday and were quoted a couple hours until they'd have room for us which is fine. Once we were seated the waiter took our drink order. It took some time but the waiter apologized that the bar was backed up. Then we put in our orders and we waited an additional hour for our food. The food came out cold. I got the spaghetti with clams and the clams had an awful fishy taste to them - not very fresh at all. Others in our table got the lobster roll which hardly had any lobster and was extremely oily and salty. Also the food was barely warm - so i assume the dishes where just sitting there for quite some time. Luckily it didn't take too long to settle the check and we were able to split the check. However, this was not the experience that I had previously which was great and unfortunately i got a stomach ache the next day so it could have been the not so fresh clams. For the price they charge I would expect better quality and more refined service. I would say pass for now.
Not pictured is the dressed oysters but they are an absolute must, we are still talking about them and the lobster toast. Such a fun casual but great spot to get your oyster and seafood fix. The options are great, the staff is super nice and we will be back! We loved sitting on the sidewalk and people watching. Highly recommend putting fish shop on your try soon list!
Went there for our anniversary happy hour, on a Friday. At 3pm the place was empty but filled up very quickly. The ambiance is nice and welcoming and the staff was super nice. We also brought our 7 months old and everybody took the time to say hi to him and be sweet. The food: - the halibut crudo was incredible! - the oysters are $2 on HH - the lobster toast was ridiculously good, like $32 good. That being said, it is "tiny" - the filet o fish is very good and for $14 you can't beat it - the bread pudding was delicious even though $15 seems pretty unreasonable The $7 house white wine is great!! Dry, delicious. Overall the food was a hit, the price on the high end for food but a nice happy hour. I would be happy to come back and try more stuff, but would get the crudo again and might dream about it! read more

Came here for our anniversary and it was a great call. Everything tasted genuinely fresh and light, the kind of seafood that leaves you feeling good instead of weighed down. The lobster toast was the highlight. The bread on that and on the Filet O'Fish is exactly what you want from a lobster roll in the Northeast: buttery, warm, and soft. They nailed it. The halibut crudo came with a chili crisp that worked really well against the clean, delicate fish. Great contrast without overpowering it. Happy hour runs 3 to 5 and is a legit deal. $6 glasses of white wine and $7 martinis. My only knock is that the happy hour oysters were Texas oysters. I was hoping for something from Nova Scotia or somewhere with a little more finesse to match the rest of the menu. The staff was truly amazing. Genuinely warm and attentive the whole night, and they made the occasion feel special. Will be back. read more

Did a walk in on a Thursday and found out they are finally on Open Table to make reservations. Was able to snag a seat at the bar which the restaurant wasn't too busy at first. Had the lobster toast, branzino and a glass of reisling. Lobster toast was amazing, the branzino was good. The beans for me weren't a huge fan and the skin on the fish was inconsistently crisp. The outter edges were great but the middle in a few sports wasn't seared/crisp at all. Service was decent, a guest that sat during my meal was notified of the specials. I wasn't informed of the special and couldn't hear what it was. Perhaps a manager, only person without apron and behind the scenes, put a glass directly into the ice bin. Can't say that's sanitary nor safe if the glass broke. Would I return? Not sure the lobster toast was definitely the star. But nothing else stood out for a repeat visit. read more

This is such a cute restaurant in east Austin. Definitely gives me a NYC vibe! I came here for date night and left with a full tummy and happy heart! We started with drinks- I got the house white wine and my boyfriend got the salty dog. Both were delicious! Then we got the halibut crudo and OMG this was the star of the night. Fresh halibut and the perfect spice from the chili crunch. Definitely and must! For entrees, I ordered the spaghetti and clams. The noodles and sauce were to die for. The clams were so fresh it was like I was eating them from the sea. It was very salty, which I didn't mind, but just a heads up! The fish sandwich and chips were superb! Who knew something so basic could be SO delicious. The service was so kind and had great recommendations. They are very busy for dinner but we had reservations and were able to get seated really fast. Overall, it was a great experience and I'd love to come back! read more

Many reviews have commented on pricing. I'd give Fish Shop 4 stars with the caveat that it's worth it with happy hour and if you use Inkind app for its built-in discount. Skip the crudo, which was too salty and barely had any fish. Do order oysters and fish sandwich from HH menu. Spaghetti with clams was salty but otherwise well-done. Burger not too shabby. Service was friendly but not the most attentive. Ambiance reminded me of legit coastal seafood restaurant despite being in landlocked ATX. read more
I've been looking forward to Fish Shop's opening and was excited to finally try it. Friends who visited last month didn't love their experience, but I figured the restaurant was still working through some early growing pains. There's a lot to like here: the menu looks great, the space smells amazing when you walk in, and the executive chef has a good reputation. The room itself is beautifully and simply designed. I visited during happy hour, and while it wasn't crowded, I can see how the lack of sound dampening could make things noisy during peak times. Food-wise, the table next to me ordered the filet o'fish, which looked delicious (though I overheard them say it was really salty). I went with the shop chips and the famous le beef burger, not realizing the burger already comes with fries. It would be helpful if the menu (or bartender) clarified that, since it would save guests from doubling up and over-ordering. On the service side, my server was fantastic -- clearly focused on customer experience. Some of the house rules, like oysters being available only in portions of six and happy hour not applying to to-go orders, caught me off guard. They're reasonable policies, but having them listed clearly on the menu (or hearing them directly from the manager) would help set expectations and avoid surprises. The place is small, so it was bizarre that he was playing telephone instead of taking directly to me. Overall, the foundation is strong, and I genuinely want this place to succeed so I can work my way through the menu. With a little more clarity on portions and house rules, and focus on the customer, this could become a top spot on the east side. read more
Popped in for the first time for happy hour during SXSW. Their happy hour runs from 3-5pm, so it's really meant for folks that don't work, are on vacay, off for the day or work from homers. I opted for a dozen oysters ($2 each) and a couple of beers (not on happy hour). My friend tried the $14 Le Beef Burger and thought it was pretty good! Loved the decorations and the fish shaped water bottles. For you patio diners, there's a few small tables on their sidewalk patio! read more
I've been craving some fried fish recently, so I've been wanting to try Fish Shop out. Halibut Crudo (5/5): Beautiful dish, visually and on the palate. Very fresh flavor, good balance of citrus, and the random spots of chili oil made it a dish that I could just eat forever. Caesar Salad (2.5/5): Full romaine lettuce pieces, tossed very evenly. I simply just don't think a Caesar salad is that good if there are no anchovies (or not enough) on it. Also the full lettuce leaves meant that the leafy ends Filet-O-Fish (5/5): This is what I came here for and it did not disappoint. Just a really quality fried fish sandwich, great ratios, love the tartar sauce, crispy bread and all. This hit the spot. Fries (thick cut) (5/5): The fish sandwich didn't come with fries so we ordered some for a side. They actually have both thin and thick cut fries, but we opted for thick cut because that was their OG version. I've actually never had thick cut fries this good. Perfectly salted, crispy on the outside, with enough substance inside. Additionally, it came with a tartar sauce, which I think is the best sauce for fries (unpopular opinion, I'm sure). Overall, my experience here was solid. The service was good, and they answered any question we had and provided recommendations. I'm not sure about their other menu items, but the Filet-O-Fish was excellent. read more

TLDR: Expensive, but gd delicious!!! As several reviewers have stated, yes, the pricing is insane ($32 for chopped lobster meat on a deliciously buttered toast??!)...but... it's also one of the best bites for crudos and light bites I've ever had. In addition to the exorbitant prices, portions are small, but the taste, quality, and careful curation of ingredients make up for it. We got lucky with a same-day dinner reservation for 3. We had a last minute addition, but the hostess was sweet enough to upgrade us to a bigger table and even said two more could squeeze in. That said, the dining space is tiny. Even for a table of 6 at a high top, our knees were bucking way too often for comfort. Considering I'm only 5'1, I'd hate to be tall at this point. Ambiance: the decor is playful and fun with kitschy nautical chic done right-- I absolutely loved it!! Food: Honestly, order everything except the Mezcal Octopus. The Mezcal Octopus was too overcooked and chewy. Standouts were the Oysters from the east coast, Oysters Rockefeller, Lobster Toast, and all the crudos: Crudo Plate a la Swan, Scallop Crudo, and Rock Shrimp Crudo. read more

Had a good dinner at Fish Shop! It's located on East Sixth street, which makes it an ideal place to start your night! There's not a lot of places in Austin that specialize in mostly raw seafood, so this place definitely hit the spot. There's service was prompt and the interior is cute but small. For food we ordered the Crudo plate a la swan. That was our favorite dish of the night. I love how lemony olive oil brightened up the fish. We also tried the rock shrimp carpaccio which was really fresh and delicious! We also tried the lobster claws which was alright. I didn't really like the sangeita it came with. For mains we got the crab roll, which was soo good. My only complaint was that it was quite small. The clams were also delicious and I enjoyed the broth. Highly recommend getting a side of bread to soak it all up. Overall a good seafood focused restaurant in Austin, but be prepared for smaller sized portions and it can be quite pricey. read more

Extremely disappointed. I posted a detailed and honest review of Fish Shop on Google Reviews a few days ago, only to find it removed today - along with several other lower-star reviews. It's incredibly disheartening as a customer to feel like your feedback is being erased rather than acknowledged. So I'll share my experience here instead, as someone who simply wants their voice respected. Transparency and accountability matter, and reviews - both positive and critical- help businesses grow and help others make informed decisions. Service: Unfortunately, the service was the biggest letdown. We had a reservation and were seated on time, but the experience quickly went downhill. Our server seemed rushed and uninterested in helping. When I asked for recommendations after learning they were out of my first choice (lobster toast), she brushed me off and said she had to tend to another table. After that, she mostly avoided us, and we had to flag someone else down just to get updates on our missing dishes. Food: Really disappointing overall. After waiting over an hour and a half, we finally got our clam chowder and oysters Rockefeller. The chowder was overly starchy, the potatoes were undercooked, and I could barely find any clams. The oysters Rockefeller were probably the only highlight, it had decent flavor and a fair portion. Unfortunately, the rest of the table didn't enjoy their dishes either. The fish was overly "fishy," and everything just felt small and off for the price. Atmosphere: This was the one redeeming part. The decor was charming, the booths were cute, and the vibe was lively. They even ring a bell when someone split the g drinking a Guinness, which was a fun touch. Overall: I really wanted to love this place, especially after trying their pop-up in the past and having a great experience. But based on this recent visit, I don't think I'll be returning. Poor service, long wait times, and underwhelming food made it a big disappointment - especially at this price point. And I don't mean to be harsh towards this business, it was just a let down after seeing so many influencers post "amazing" reviews. I truly only share my honestly opinions. read more

Happy hour has great deals on martinis, oysters, and their fish sandwich. The sandwich is tasty and the bun is soft and buttery, but the portion of fish is much smaller than what's shown in their photos. Josie *spellcheck, was my server and she was amazing. Greeted me and sat me down immediately even though my party wasn't full there. Once my other friends arrived she was attempted and gave us a complete run down of the menu! I ended up ordering the Halibut Crudo, fish & chips, oysters/clams/mussels. So happy this place has been added to inKind! With their discounted gift cards I was able to have dinner with a friend, and we went all out. Started with a couple Martini Rossi's and moved to Old Fashioneds later in the meal. We split the bread service, the halibut crudo, some mussels, a lobster toast, and the spaghetti and clams. The lobster toast was my favorite item but at $32 for 2 small pieces, it's definitely a splurge. Would definitely have the spaghetti and clams again. For this whole feast we spent just over $200 after tax before tip. We had excellent service from Kayla W. and I hope she's around next time I come in. Next time I need to try their shrimp which they ran out of as it was a the end of the night. read more
Don't need to get on a plane for NoCal level seafood - Fish Shop has got you covered. Spoiler: this is a spendy place $$$$ so be prepared but the value and creativity justify. Vibe is laid-back with multiple seating options at seafood counter or communal long table. Very friendly and attentive staff - they seem to care for each other like family. Justin the owner stopped by the chat about his journey in the culinary scene (Uchi, Justines). My friend and I started with the delicious bread (Service) which was proper chewy sourdough and the most decadent butter. enjoyed two specials -otoro and razor clam. Otoro was served carpaccio style on a crisp flatbread topped with fresh horseradish lemon, and crème fraîche. It felt decadent yet approachable. Razor clam was also very creative... Chopped and served with a light sauce which included apple for a tart burst and Crunch. We also enjoy the Dungeness crab salad, which I highly recommend ordering with their delicious old base seasoned potato chips. Fish and chips were perfectly seasoned, and the chips are extra crunchy, yet perfectly soft on the inside. Nice selection of wine and cocktails. We enjoyed champagne and a mocktail with something that tasted like aperol. Honey cake was the dessert and it was very satisfying and not to sweet. Look forward to try more dishes on the menu, especially the clam chowder. read more

You can't go wrong with Fish Shop's happy hour! It is short but worth it! We ordered oysters , the fish sandwich , and a burger from the HH menu! Then, we ordered the bread with lobster butter from the regular menu and this was seriously the star of the show! I wanted to purchase this butter to go, it was THAT GOOD! read more

Always nervous trying new spots. Fun and vibrant ambiance with a variety of seating options. We've decided, it was dinner and a show! The hustle and bustle and fun fortune teller at the end of the meal... fabulous, fresh from start to finish. Try a little bit of everything, including the sourdough to soak up anything with broth. randomly heard about this new seafood spot opening in east austin, texas + there was no way I wasn't gonna be first in there! I came in on a budget, left with a check outside of the budget. lol. everything just looked + sounded so good, I had to have it! sitting at the bar watching the chefs prepare the food didn't help.. To start, I had the smoked steelhead trout. I love dill therefore I enjoyed it but I thought the presentation was a bit muddy. also, it would've been better served with potato chips instead of crackers! Next, I had the oysters and mussels -- the mussels are in this sweet sauce that is so delicious. I wish I ordered more. I didn't want to "be basic" and order the lobster toast but I was craving lobster all week so I ordered it. It was so buttery and so fresh. Their fries (chips) are also on my list of good fries. I would make a call-in order just for the fries! the owners, chef, + my waitress Hailey were sooo nice and hospitable. I'm excited to see this restaurant grow and thrive in the east. read more

Service is great. Our bartender, Sebastian made us feel welcomed and he had a lot of knowledge about the menu. It seemed like the entire staff was there just to help each other out, which was refreshing. The halibut Crudo was amazing.. full of flavor. Overall, just a pretty chill experience. read more
