This little gem is on Webberville Road just north of seventh Street. I thought I knew all of the gay bars in Austin, but happened upon this totally by accident. It has the vibe of a sports bar but is super friendly. The food here is amazing, especially their weekend brunch that features, southern entrées, like shrimp and grits, chicken, and waffles, and their very delicious poutine tater tots. The staff here is friendly and outgoing, and gets your orders out of the kitchen quickly. There's a very nice outdoor area shaded with misters and a large screen TV. I've been to the Cavalier like twice. Once in 2019 when I first moved to Austin, and again last week. As a bar itself, I really like it. It's just nowhere near where I live so I never make it out. We tried their 2 for 1 Monday burger special and honestly we were a bit disappointed. The bun wasn't that good and the patty itself was very salty. We came here to redeem the vouchers we won during the F1 event the Sunday before (it was also Sunday and also a race day again). It was pretty warm outside and I asked if we could watch the race inside. At first, I was told they can't play anything but football on the inside TVs, which was completely understandable and I was not going to ask for again nor be upset about. But the bartender was kind enough to put it on anyway. Please don't get him in trouble for it, he got you a new regular!!!! Anyway, we got burgers, fries and a couple of drinks. Everything was great! The Cavalier is a fun bar in East Austin that was heavily Halloween decorated this past weekend. We went to check it out as part of the mini golf fundraising event for Healing With Horses Ranch. I think they won the best hole of the event too! We attempted to putt putt, donated via the QR code on the cute donkey, and tried the Things That Go Bump in the Night cocktail along with the fried artichokes which we liked. The Halloween decorations were a nice touch. They also had screens playing the UT Austin game and thankfully UT pulled it out in the end. Hook 'Em! The Cavalier is a great neighborhood bar with a full roster of regulars from what I can tell. The bartender being a little bit of a sarcastic jerk didn't take away from the inviting feel of the place, but instead kinda fit with the comfortable charm of this spot. The No Politics and No Religion signs behind the bar fit this as well and made me laugh. Drinks are well made but this is not a craft cocktail place. With that being said, the old fashioned was perfect! They serve their frozen cocktails in plastic cups and I meant to ask if you're meant to take them home. Their burger wasn't awesome. They couldn't get the seasoning right; it was feast or famine with the seasoning. The cookies they keep on the bar to tempt you are amazing. Do it. lovely neighborhood bar. we have gone a couple times- and each time i am dreaming of the fried (gluten free) artichoke. so freaking good. the guinness has gotten the stamp of approval from my beer-snob boyfriend, so you know it's good. the steak itself was okay, but i'm learning with austin steak nights that they aren't using incredible cuts of steak- the chimichurri though was absolutely delicious and i would totally go back again for both steak and sauce- just setting expectations that you aren't getting the cream of the cut. What a wonderful little place to stumble into! The food was amazing! The tots were so beautifully done, and the BLT was INSANE! The whole group agreed it might be the best BLT in ATX. This was my first time here and I found out about it through Facebook because of an advertisement for a crawfish boil. So First, the guys that do the crawfish are from a place called Burt's Meats and it is soooooo good. Actually better than some other places that I've been to in Austin. It was perfectly spicy and fresh. I got two pounds at $15 a pound which has been pretty standard pricing here in Austin. I definitely plan on going for the crawfish when they have another boil.
