After thrifting on Saturday, a friend of mine and I landed at BD Riley's Irish Pub at Mueller. OMG it was so much fun!!! This place is huge with so much character. Traditional Irish artifacts filled the restaurant / bar. B. D. Riley's was celebrating St. Patrick's Day on Saturday, March 14 with live music, Irish food, Guinness, dancers, bagpipes, etc. No cover charge and many families were present (family friendly times). The excitement and enthusiasm was contagious! You could hear the roar of laughter and the occasional Irish call out. It is rare you can have so much clean fun with no fear of violence. This review is based on their food and service. Service is always painfully slow. I have to wait usually 10 minutes or more for someone to come by and greet my table. But that is nothing compared to how awful the food is. Growing up and living in Boston I was accustomed to Irish Pubs that took pride in the food they made. Let's be honest - Irish food in general is not very good but the pubs I went to in Boston elevated the fare. If it is in fact true that BD Riley's is run by someone from Boston then he or she should be ashamed of the food they serve. It's like they have a 10 year old cooking the food. BD Riley's in Mueller has a fun pub vibe and is usually a convenient neighborhood spot, but our recent visit was a mixed bag. Despite being there during off-peak hours, the service was surprisingly slow, with long waits just to get basic attention and food out to the table. One especially frustrating moment was the kids' mac and cheese arriving extremely hot--way beyond what's reasonable for a children's dish. Overall, the place has potential and the atmosphere is fine, but the service pace and lack of attention to kid-friendly details held the experience back this time. read more

A super fun pub with a very chill vibe right in the middle of Mueller. I'm a sucker for an Irish pub and so I was so excited to try this place since it's smack dab in the middle of one of my favorite spots to frequent. The decor was very in-your-face about being a sports bar but overall really cute. The staff was also nice and attentive as well. For food, we got the sheperd's pie and fish and chips. The classics. I was pleasantly surprised. The prices are pretty steep but at least the food and drinks are good. The sheperd's pie was very standard. Pretty hard to mess up ground meat and mashsed potatoes. The fish and chips were the main event with how big the portions was and how flaky the fish was. I also got a moscow mule and it was really good as well. read more

It's a solid Irish pub in the area and they're busy most of the time. The place is super casual and attracts many locals. Because it is also a sports watching spot, it may get really loud. ESPECIALLY for soccer days. I like getting their Irish stew, but this time it didn't feel like it was lamb. The meat was more beef-like (actually very similar to what was on my boyfriend's plate). I've been to Ireland and the UK several times and know my way around proper pubs. I gotta say even though this is in a newer community that's seemingly been developed for residents, it wasn't bad at all. My toastie was proper and tasty. My boyfriend got the shepherd's pie. It was a true shepherd's pie made with lamb. The food overall was decent pub fare. The decor is kitschy and reminiscent of a kind of elevated Irish pub. The service was great. Our server chatted us up about the new Superman movie and of course we had to break out pics of our very own Krypto. If I had any complaints at all it would be that there isn't curry or cottage pie on the menu. Otherwise, I was surprisingly pleased by the experience. Looking forward to the next visit. read more

I've walked by this place many many times and finally tried it out recently. I love the liveliness, unique decor and the soul& spirit of Ireland that they transported here to Austin. It is rare to have a culturally/nationally authentic feel to a restaurant/bar these days. Came around 10pm and their kitchen is still open - yay. Got the fried pickles - tasty, it was my first time trying and I'm usually not a huge fan of pickle. Very flavorful and light enough batter, great dipping sauce. Their blackened tuna with rosemary potatoes were yummy as well. Exceed my expectations for bar food. Love that they always have some kind of English sports on the screens and the vibe there was great - people are happy to be there. I got a blueberry smash, was quite strong. I never really have a bad experience. Sometimes the service is hit or miss, but that's sort of everywhere right now and when the place is busy it's real busy Dog and family friendly and good sized patio! Keep in mind everything is seat yourself and first come first serve and on nice days the patio non-barrel tables go quickly. The food is pub food, potato soup is good on a cold day in those two weeks of winter and I always tend to lean on the chicken strips - real chicken and lightly flavorful batter! This latest time I wasn't sure what I was feeling for a drink so I let the bartender decide "vodka or gin based, not sweet, more savory" and what I got was PERFECT although I can't remember the name now it was gin based with lavender. Friends from out of town wanted to hang out and I didn't want to miss Newcastle United vs Man city match so I suggested BD Riley's. When I got there I was greeted by my server Joseph and asked if they can put the game on. The manager/owner Eric came out and helped me out! One of the TVs had a weird aspect ratio issue which wasn't a big deal but Eric actually got the match on multiple TVs! He even went above and beyond to get audio for the game as well. I love this place! Met with a group of people for trivia night and our waiter, Al was so accommodating and efficient! I scored a table in the corner and we were able to seat everyone comfortably. We had several different tickets for food and drinks. Somehow Al kept everything straight and did it with a smile! The food was great. We had a chicken Newton (yum) and some hearty potato soup. Patio servers look like they they hate their jobs and are forced to be there. Our server never once smiled, dropped off drinks & walked away, never checked in on us & just seemed so unhappy it makeed us feel so uncomfortable. I can't speak for anyone inside. The 2 male bussers in red shirts were very friendly & helped us when we needed silverware & water when our server was nowhere to be found. They were great. Food was ok, nothing to rave about. Probably won't be back because of the service alone. **Update** I'm so happy the review I posted was taken seriously by the owner and sounds like it will be addressed. Bravo! This is how I wish all business owners would respond. I really appreciate that. I do hope to give you another chance when we're back in town. I had the foreknowledge that our party of six was coming here the day before which gave me plenty of time to read through dozens of reviews. One common subject was that yelpers either liked or did not like the fish and chips. We ordered it and the fish was very good. However, the chips were reminiscent of a previously frozen type that I've had at other establishments before. Not a fan. The other common denominator is that the business owner, Steve B comments on virtually every review. Also, if you want to avoid paying for parking, you can use one of two nearby garages and they'll validate your ticket with a QR code on their front door. We got here for a late lunch on a Sunday and the place was pretty full with the Cowboys on all their flat screens. This is a casual dog friendly seat yourself kind of place and it does get pretty noisy. After a round of beers, the food arrived about 15 minutes later. I decided on the burger, and I asked for cheese, which they forgot and a side of cole slaw instead of chips which was also forgotten. At least they brought a side of slaw and I got to keep the chips. The burger was ok, but I would not order it or the slaw again. I would not add this place to my "burger go to" list, although their Guinness and steak poutine is a unique specialty. When it's time to settle up, they'll just whisk away with your credit card and you'll notice they charge a wellness fee which supposedly is related to the staff. I'll let Steve B explain that one. Arrived shortly after opening. Interior of establishment was well done. I had a burger which was great. Another person ordered the fish and chips. Towards the end of our lunch the owner stopped by our table asking about our experience. We had mentioned the fish and chips were said to be very good here according to an acquaintance living in Austin. The owner brought out a sample of the fish for my brother and I. The fish texture was perfect and the batter used tasted great. Makes me wish I would have ordered fish and chips. Would definitely make a return trip the BD Riley's next time I'm in Austin. I'm so glad I checked out the hoppin spot in Mueller! We felt lucky to grab a table inside at 6:30 on a chilly Friday evening. We were served pretty quickly considering how crowded the place was, and the service continued to be consistent throughout the evening. It's a lively pub made all the more authentic by the Irish band that started playing a little while after we got our food and drinks. It was super loud! Couldn't really hear one another talk anymore, but perfect if you're there to enjoy the music and drink. The patio usually looks busy when I pass by, especially when Liverpool is playing! The food was good pub food. All fried to perfection. I don't eat much fried food, but I couldn't resist trying their famous fish and chips. Worth it! We went on the Saturday before St. Pat's Day and enjoyed the fish and chips, Reuben sandwich and shepherds pie. We loved the Guinness pints, but they could have been colder. Before se left, the entertainer started with a small combo and female harpist/singer. Great voice and did several covers, like Believe by Cher! Nice surprise! We come to B.D Riley's pretty often, we always order the wings and the Irish nacho's (don't forget to add the corn beef!!) and always satisfied with both our food and our service! The wings are typically really big and they always load up the nacho's my boyfriend really enjoys their buffalo, it has a nice hickory flavor. We visited last night 1/2/2025 and were served some of the smallest wings we have ever been served at an establishment before. Love you B.D Riley's and hope this was just a one time thing. read more

I get the veggie burger and fries as a vegan food option, which is good but not great. Parking is easy and they'll validate the garage fees. Had met up with a few friends at BD Riley's Irish pub and had a few beers. We've walked by this place a few times in the past at Mueller and really wanted to go in and check this place out. Finally made a date of it and like I said, we had beers with friends and ordered dinner. The restaurant or rather Pub, is spirited and smells of beer and deep fried food. There are TVs on the wall and you can't really hear any of the sound. It feels like a celebratory place to go when there's a game on. I highly recommend joining this crowd and having a beer at this location. The pub is enticing because it has indoor and outdoor seating. All of which feels like there is segmented rooms inside where you can sit and chat with friends and family and not have to deal with outside conversations. They serve all different styles of beer and has a many choices of food on their menu. On my search, I always start my order with their fish and chips. I've been to every joint who tells me they have the best fish and chips... I did say prove it... and they did! They do serve a very good fish and chips here. And of course I ordered a couple Guinness to start. You can't come to a tavern such as this and not order one. Our servers were terrific. They were young and ambitious and eager to please, and always asked if we needed anything else. I think that really adds to the spirit of sports bars that you have top energy from the staff. The only Patriots bar in Austin! Great Guinness and great sandwiches. Awesome atmosphere especially on a Friday. I love bringing my dog here and they have water bowls for pets as well. Most of the staff is super friendly besides a couple of the servers and sometimes they do take a while to bring your drinks but that's only when they're extremely busy. I wish they stayed open later but besides that it's one of my go to spots. read more

I cant remember ever being treated worse at a bar or restaurant. A staff member was a rude domineering bully. Barking orders at me and my friend after we had already decided to leave. He was hostile aggressive and demeaning. This at an "Irish" pub. The kind of place where everyone is welcomed and difficulties are hugged out with a pint. Only here the Karens have taken over to shill out a fake toxic and abusive experience. Avoid in favor of any alternative. Including drinking from a paper bag with a wino in a gutter. There is plenty of parking and walkability for this area. We stopped by for lunch on a weekend, GameDay, and found excellent seats inside. The pub has a classic Irish charm and a very relaxing atmosphere. This would be an ideal place to meet for a cold pint or two. We came for the fish n chips and Guiness draughts. The service was friendly and attentive despite the place being full. The battered mushrooms were fantastic. My fish was slightly overcooked, but his was perfect. The service is good. But it is a generic Irish themed sports bar that you could find in a rich suburban mall. I got bored writing about it.

I'm glad we stopped in for dinner! The food was great, and I was finally able to try a Yuengling! We don't have those in So Cal, so it was awesome to get to check that off my list, along with a Smithwick's red, and a Magner's cider. Those last two were suggested by Alex, which were great calls.
