I was craving fish and chips when I was planning my trip to Austin over the past weekend (April 16-18, 2026). And, found The Dead Rabbit via a web search. I actually been to The Dead Rabbit, but it was in New York. I found out that this location was related to the one in New York. I was surprised when I arrived that this location that it wasn't crowded being it was a Friday evening during at almost the end of Happy Hour. Seating was available right away. The service was fast, prompt, and professional. The staff were friendly, patient, and courteous. The ambiance was surprisingly not loud where you had to shout your order. Speaking about my order -- yes, I ordered the fish and chips, and a pint of Guinness. The fish and chips were cooked just right. The Guinness tasted like a properly-poured Guinness. It was too bad that I couldn't "split the G." Lol. The next time I'm in Austin, I'll be visiting them again. read more

Most pubs you don't really expect much from their main entrees but the Dead Rabbit knocked it out of the park. Our server was great and checked in on us frequently. A good and slightly more upscale spot in downtown on 6th St. It is an Irish bar with some non-standard options. I was not very hungry (unlike my boyfriend lol) and ordered a veggie plate which turned out to be huge! It was actually great: plenty of fresh veggies, some olives, nuts, and 2 types of dipping sauce. This was a nice spot especially compared to all the other things on dirty 6th. For some reason the floors here are filled with sand. Like they are ready for some sort of disaster. Being downtown means prices will be a bit higher but not bank breaking big. The corn beef sandwich was one of the better corn beefs I've had. I got here and immediately I got the Christmas vibe, the decor makes it feel warmer and cozy. I had a couple of seasonal drinks: the cookie and cream, and the gingerbread man one. The cookies and cream is frozen, didn't say that in the description; and the gingerbread man didn't have the man in it haha, they said they sold out of the little decoration. The food here was outstanding! The scotch egg was superb, crispy and savory. The butternut squash soup was delicious but a little lukewarm, I wish it would be hotter. I added a soda bread for texture and was delicious! The main dis is the fish and chips, the best I've had ever, for real. The batter is very crispy and the dis inside was thick and juicy. I must highlight the sinks in the bathroom, they have water coming from the middle and when you move your hands to the side, it blows air for drying. Very cool! read more

This place knocked my (christmas) socks off! We had a girls night here for the Jingle Jangle pop up - it was so festive and the drinks (all in the $20 range) were perfect for the holidays! There was a wait for the table but we were able to grab some seats at the bar while we waited. The food was so unexpectedly amazing. Us four girls split two entrees and finished only about 40% of everything - that is how generous the portions are. The fish & chips ($26) are flaky, crispy battered and amazing. Good, hearty chips too. The Sunday Prime Rib Roast ($42) - wow, just everything on that plate is *chef's kiss* and authentic. Especially the mashed potatoes, gravy, and creamy cauliflower. I was looking forward to trying one of the many holiday pop-ups in town, and glad I chose Jingle Jangle @ the Dead Rabbit. I got there around 6:20pm and there wasn't a line so I must have caught a good break in between waves. Found a spot at one of the middle counters near the back. Everyone around was nice seeing that I was a solo diner. My server Jay eventually found me and placed my order. I got one cocktail and one N/A. Both were sweet and yummy - wish there was more color variety though. I finished with one more cocktail that was slightly stronger but still pleasing. Right after my first round came, I accidentally spilled the N/A drink. The folks around me probably hated me but helped to clean it up. I should have helped grab napkins too, but sometimes you're stuck in shock. Jay kindly gave me a free refill on it as well, despite the ratioing. When I left the line was very long. Stopped by here before a concert and what an absolute score of a place. It's an Irish style bar with my husband favorite beer Guinness and I had an amazing coffee. I had the most delicious butternut squash soup ever. And throughout the evening our waitress was so pleasant and helpful. It was Shana's month to pick our date day/night trip. She choose this as the last stop as she had wanted to visit for some time. So we headed to the Dead Rabbit which was in full Christmas flavor. We got some good drinks, I got a cookies and cream drink that was fantastic. Shana got a different holiday drink which had a gummy Christmas tree on it. She also got the Scotched eggs and really like it. We didn't stay long as we had other plans later but it was a fun trip. The service was friendly, it never felt too crowded but it was early, the décor was fun and the drinks and food were good. While it was all good, the 4 star is due to it not standing out much from any other bar that puts up Christmas décor and drinks. Nothing makes it really shine, which is fine. I really loved the Jingle Jangle theme! The decor is beautiful, it made it feel like we had travelled somewhere out of town. Want to visit Ireland without going too far from home? This is the closest you can come to experiencing a proper Irish pub stateside. First off, you MUST get the chips, AKA French fries, which are almost like thick sticks of creamy mashed potatoes inside, perfectly crisped on the outside. The real feature though is the full Irish breakfast which can be made vegan upon request. You get beyond sausage, toasted sourdough, baked beans, sauteed mushrooms, and tomatoes; the ideal balance of healthy and hearty. That said, the drinks alone are worth checking out. The "Taking Liberties" with whisky, scotch, rum, cacao husk, and vanilla is pretty much my new favorite cocktail. I'm convinced you can't go wrong, no matter what you choose. read more

Harp in a can or a couple of Guinness options. That's it. I get it, the DR is known for their liquor and mixed drinks. Got it. But for us beer drinkers who love a good Irish beer, don't narrow our choice down to the Irish beer we can get anywhere. The food was quality. All i have to say is this is the first scotch bonnet egg I've had that I've liked. This place is Irish pub meets cool stylish vibe. We've been here twice. One with family and friends and two on a day date with the hubs during Christmas season. Both times we were welcomed with open arms. Customer service was above and beyond. Beautiful and grand interior, Dead Rabbit is originally a NYC bar and the ambiance comes through in this location. It's decor is the best in town during the holidays and the frozen cookies and cream drink is fun. Friendly bartenders were giving local recommendations to visitors next to us. I stopped by here for a quick drink before dinner. I had been to the location in New York and remembered loving it, so I wanted to show my boyfriend, and he absolutely loved it too! This was a fun find along 6th street. They have quite the menu of drinks and they are STRONG so beware when you order them. One drink there is like two somewhere else. We ordered from the appetizer menu so we could try a few things. We got the Scotch egg, house made chips (french fries), chilled cantaloupe soup (very different), and a sausage roll. Everything was really good, even the soup...definitely something to try at least once. The service was great, our waitress was very attentive and friendly. I am glad this is what was chosen to replace BD Rileys, as much as we all shall miss the old venue. There is definitely some effort in keeping the menu Irish, and the choices are definitely reminiscent of what we experienced in Ireland on trips there. They also a putting great effort into support of the "Live Music Capitol" culture that much of the rest of Austin has seen fit to abandon. We didn't order drinks since we were just coming from another bar and were super hungry. I got mussels with toast to dip in the broth and they were so good! I would get this again. It is an irish bar but we were just there for food and sat in one of their booths. They do have tvs playing by the bar if you are just looking to have a drink and watch the game. Sadly the food and drinks have really fallen off here. My husband described the fries as "the worst he's ever had in his life." The fried chicken was soggy, like it had been fried some time ago and was sitting under a heat lamp steaming. It was not crispy at all. The shrimp cocktail I ordered was the kind of medium/small shrimp you would put on a salad or pasta, not shrimp cocktail size. We had two Christmas cocktails that were ok. I ordered a vodka soda that was hot though?! It was warm when I got it and it melted the ice. Not even sure how they accomplished that. My husband then ordered the cookies frozen drink and he was brought a frozen iris coffee instead. It was not great and at that point we didn't even care and just wanted to pay and leave because someone brought a baby in a stroller behind us that needed its diaper changed. Okay, yes, the prices are high...but, anyone complaining about the prices clearly forgets that they're going to a NYC-restaurant on 6th Street. News flash to those complaining...Austin really isn't THAT different than NYC when it comes to prices. They are also new, and still adjusting to meet the market here in Austin. While we didn't love paying $20 for a cocktail, it's honestly so much better quality than the $13-$18 "holiday" drink you're paying at any other place with a holiday menu. The Dead Rabbit is a GREAT addition of classiness meets fun. They really have done a wonderful job with the space with different types of seating and really beautiful holiday decor. The food was unexpectedly good, too. Sure, the pot pie was a bit on the dryer side (as mentioned in another review), but it was still tasty. The fish and chips, though, was a favorite. Perfectly battered and not at all greasy. Even the French Fries, dipped in tartar, were tasty. I have confidence that the staff will continue to improve the quality of food, and I look forward to returning to try more off the menu (hopeful that the prices for drinks will adjust too).
