So to be fair Im only giving 4 stars because its a limited menu due to FIFA. I was dying for some good Shepherds pie! BUT! The fish and chips are excellent! Batter stays on, fish is fresh and perfectly flaky yet holds together. Fries are perfect and the pecan tartar sauce is bangin! My husband had the burger which was good. Nothing over the top but a good juicy burger, soft bun, with fries. They give you more fries than you, well, I can eat. I first had the Foxy Daiquiri. It is a great twist on the original Hemingway. I also had their frozen Irish coffee "Irish Goodbye". Very good! It's dessert in a glass that you can actually taste the alcohol even with the Ice Cream! Yum!! We sat at the bar and Abby was our bartender. Very friendly and attentive. If I were an Austin local I would come to sit at her bar. Really cool Irish vibe with a Jameson chandelier. I walked in and sat at the bar. Was ready to walk out after 10-15 minutes of not being acknowledged by two bartenders who honestly seemed bored. Hand waving and nearly jumping out of my seat was not enough to get their attention. Finally, I ordered a burger and a beer. The burger was at least warm with an entirely tasteless bun, tomato, and onion. The fries were remarkably weak such that I questioned whether these calories were even worth it. Had to flag down staff for silverware, condiments, and finally the check. Gets one star for ambience and one for the staff being friendly when I finally got their attention. read more

This place really is a "proper pub." My friend and I were seated upstairs on the balcony and our waitress was extremely attentive in between getting us beers and our food. I was pretty happy with the portion size - I think I paid $32 after tax and tip for a burger, fries, and beer. read more

Hey, Foxy! I sure do like your Irish pub vibes. It's like an updated concept of an Irish pub (aka Americanized). I love the dim lighting and wood accents. Really fab service. Excellent happy hour prices. The Scotch Eggs, Pretzel Board, Irish Eggrolls, Potato Skins, and Shepherds Pie are amazingly delish pub comfort dishes. Nothing beats Shepherds Pie with a cold Guinness or cold Guinness Zero. Lots of other things on the menu I wanna try like the bangers and Jameson strip steak, green beans, and more. We always look for dog friendly places to dine. Foxy's has an outdoor patio frequented by dog lovers. Water bowls are available if you forgot yours. Our waitress was attentive to us and our pup. Food was good. We had fish-n-chips, wings, and Guinness. They open at 3pm, so we went for a late lunch, early dinner. Great spot with a cool, lively atmosphere! I had been before on St. Patrick's day (which I highly recommend), but hadn't tried the food until now. Stopped in with a large group on a Saturday night to grab dinner and watch football, and it was a great choice. Luck of the Irish It was St. Patrick's Day and search all over downtown Austin for green beer until a bouncer said come on in we have it. I never been inside Foxy's Proper Pub where from outside looked small but it rather big inside. One problem before entering was it looked packed but decided to venture inside like an explorer. I was navigating shoulder to shoulder through people mostly 25 years younger than me where most were holding cups of shiny green beer. I ended up at a long bar under a chandelier made of green Jameson bottles. This room resembled a two story library out of Harry Potter. Lots of of iron, wood, and character, but no wands. As I finally got the attention of one of the many bartenders serving thirsty folks I got my green beer and those behind me were marveling at it. It tasted like a golden ale beer and enjoyed it. Besides green beer looks like on a normal day Foxy's serves a very wide range of authentic Irish mixed drinks, beer and food. It's really a cool place to checkout where I was impressed by what I could see in the massive crowd. There was patio, bar and indoor balcony seating. There was also what looked like a private area seeing a few going through a curtain unless it was the green beer talking. In hindsight the green beer made my day in celebrating St. Patrick's in style. read more

We came for the fish and chips. We were not disappointed. We were certainly blessed with a reasonably cool(ish) evening so the outdoor patio area was pleasant. The pub also has a good amount of indoor seating. You order at the bar, they give you a number, and they bring your food to your table. The fish and chips had a nice batter on them, not greasy or soggy. The fish was meaty and moist. The red ale had a nice balance between light and dark (leaning more toward light). The atmosphere is like being in a construction zone, which is just the way things are as Austin is bursting at the seams. All in all, a good experience. Definitely worth a visit. read more

On our quest to find the best fish and chips in Texas, we happened upon this spot while in Austin. We started with the beer cheese. I was expecting a totally different dish, but I was not disappointed either. The cheese had good flavor and was easy to spread on the bread provided. I topped my bread with the cheese and then the walnuts provided. It really elevated it. The pickles it came with were good too. The fish and chips: pretty good. The batter was crunchy and not too thick. The fries were good. Now the ketchup they serve is curried ketchup. While it's not bad, it just didn't go well with my fries. They were able to give me regular ketchup. They also have malt vinegar available. For drinks, we stuck with Irish liquor. I ordered the Belfast- their version of an old fashion. I give two thumbs up. Located downtown, but not in a busy area. They have inside and outside seating. They also upstairs seating that gives you a good view of the bar. Parking is either garage or street parking. We did find a garage about one block down for $10. read more

Love this place! Visited for the first time on a Wednesday evening so it was laid back and not too crowded. The bartender was great! Attentive and gave good recommendations. We only came here for drinks but they have bar food as well. The drinks were good and fairly priced. TVs are around the bar playing sports so I imagine this is a good place to come for game days that's like a sports bar but still has class. Come for the service - I came in on my first night in town just as the kitchen was closing. We were in the middle of asking if they had any recommendations nearby when they offered to keep the kitchen running and make us the last order of the night. Then later, on my last night in town, I came by again at the moment everything ELSE had shut down and I was having trouble finding the late night Coke my partner was craving. Sophia behind the bar fixed me up like it was nothing and made me the hero. The staff couldn't have been more convivial at every interaction. And if you don't come for the service, come for the food - my date and I split some very nice fish and chips, plus a hot pretzel that left "very nice" in the dust. Every element was better than it needed to be, but most of all I recommend the mustard that came with the pretzel. It was spicy, robust and very fresh tasting. 12 of us stopped by for drinks and snacks. Luckily we were able to find a big table and a big screen TV (March madness finals) but our TV only showed some sort of home building adds while the tv in the bar area had the game on (but we couldn't see it and they couldn't or wouldn't change ours). We all got drinks--they were ok. French fries ok. Pretzil board was excellent--best pub cheese my adult son has ever had (in his words). Service was sub optimal--perhaps because our waitress was also tending bar. At least she was a happy/pleasant person. We had a hard time getting the bill and were told to wade through 2 layers of barflys to get the bill from the bar--we refused. Finally she brought the bill and we were amazed to see a 25% mandatory tip. 20% is standard for a large group--25% for poor service is outrageous. If it weren't for the pretzil board and pub cheese they would get 2 stars not 3. I would not come again with a group. read more

I went in and sat at the bar, I was there for 15 minutes not once did the bartender ask me "can I get you anything? Or here's a menu." She never knowledge me once.
