Really loved this place! Wanted a casual restaurant with good food before heading to the Springsteen concert and it was the perfect choice!! Eclectic decor, crowd and menu; it was very Austin! Service was excellent throughout and we enjoyed trying several dishes off their menu! Began with a cocktail called Roselite which was both delicious and beautiful then we tried a variety of their dishes! My absolute favorite was their oysters Rockefeller which were some of the best I have had anywhere! The topic was crispy and delicious and they were perfectly cooked! Also enjoyed the half dozen or their East Coast oysters that were delicious. Enjoyed their delicious yellowfin tuna with lemons, capers, shallots and olive oil. The fries and onion dip were also just excellent ! My only let down - and it was barely that as it was so delicious and fresh - was the smoked trout dip! Part of it was a me problem as I was comparing it to my favorite version made by State Bird - a famous eatery in San Francisco where this is one of their go to dishes - and part of it was that this restaurant has that Feankin BBQ tie so when they said smoked - I was looking forward to that smoke forward taste and their was none - but it was fresh, delicious and well prepared! Had a fantastic time here and will definitely go back! Highly recommend Uptown!
We came by for a quick snack and drinks. Based on the outside I did not expect the interior to look so nice. The whole back patio area was also done nicely. Food and drinks here were solid. The service here was really good. Even though it was packed the wait time got a walk in was pretty short. Do expect to pay a bit more for the portion you get. The gumbo turned out more favorable than the tartar. We didn't get any mains since we weren't feeling like having a sandwich, which was most of the menu.
Unassuming building facade, yet really well decorated inside, pretty trendy and modern decorations. It looks like there's not a lot of seats indoors but they have large patio seating. The service was excellent. Our server was very nice and attentive! We enjoyed chatting with him. The gumbo was pretty good and very flavorful. I enjoyed it quite a bit. The tartare was okay, probably not my personal favorite. The menu had a lot of burgers and sandwiches, which are not quite my go-to options, so we got apps and drinks. The drinks were good, priced at an upscale downtown markup.
Recently, on a random weeknight, I got the urge to watch Jon Favreau's Chef from 2014. It's a cozy movie that focuses on the love and passion food can bring to people and how cuisines and the love of cooking can connect people together. Towards the final run of the movie, Jon Favreau's character Carl Casper makes a pit stop in Austin to stop at Franklin Barbecue. At that time, Franklin was in its prime. It's still huge today, but no one was doing it quite like Aaron Franklin in the early 2010s. After talking to Aaron, Carl Casper and his crew get 4 packer briskets for their food truck to make the "Austin Midnight" sandwich. Watching this, I thought that Franklin would never sell off their quality brisket to another place because they are selling out daily anyways. Unrealistic movie. That is until yesterday when I realized movies can truly mirror reality thanks to Uptown Sports Club. Located off East 6th, Uptown is a modern sports bar lifted up by Aaron Franklin himself. The atmosphere here has that classic 60s and 70s bar feeling with a modern twist. It's timeless inside and really a cool spot both inside and out. My buddy and I showed up on a Saturday with no reservations running fully off vibes and had an hour wait ahead of us. We waited elsewhere on 6th, no biggie. If you aren't like us, I'd recommend a reservation. Once seated inside, we got drinks from the bar and I got a PBR with a lemon and cocktail onion on a skewer dubbed a Blue Collar Beertuni. I also got 2 of their East Coast Oysters for the vibes at $4.25 each. Sure, why not! They were served with a lemon, mignonette, horseradish, and cocktail sauce, with Crystal Hot Sauce on the table. They were excellent and a good size. Now this is where the story ties back to the lede, my enticed readers. Their menu included their Special Smashy for a fair $10 (+$4 for fries). It seems to be a revolving special Smashburger. You never know what it will be each visit. What made their Smashburger Special this time? Crispy Franklin Barbecue Brisket smashed into a patty, topped with cheddar and American cheese, Franklin's Espresso Barbecue Sauce and pickles. This was my Chef moment. I HAD to get it. I got it served with a great helping of fries plus ketchup and aioli. The picture I took of it didn't do it any justice, but I demolished that sucker. It was fantastic. To chase it, I ordered a Rosalie cocktail made from rose and elderflower gin that I enjoyed quite a bit. The food was great, but it was a little too great because after chowing down, I couldn't help but feel sleepy and the night on East Sixth was short-lived. Uptown can be as light as it needs to be, but impressively the prices don't rob you of a night out. This is a great spot in the middle of great options off East Sixth and is worth your time and attention. The bar alone is worth the trip, but the food really extends the life of Uptown and is the reason I'll be going back. RIYL: A classic sports bar with some of the best casual American food in its area of town.
Overall, a positive experience. There are a few things that could have been better. First, the restaurant is super cute and service was great! Our fav thing we ate was the cinnamon roll. The entrees were a hit or miss. We enjoyed the lemon ricotta pancake. Nice combo of tart and sweet on a fluffy pancake. The chicken biscuit sandwich was also tasty. The Lox was way too salty and with the side salad, although light, was very basic. The avocado toast was pretty underwhelming and the classic breakfast was just okay too. With all this said, I have found that places with just okay brunch usually have a stronger dinner menu. I'll have to give it a try.
THE BIG: Located on East Sixth street and right across the street from Second bar + kitchen. One room space but it's a big space. Street parking available. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I had my company holiday party here and communications between the sales team and myself was punctual and informative. Highly recommend booking an event here. For food, to name a few things ,we got the chopped brisket sandwich, shrimp & crab salad, oysters, gumbo, uptown burger, hot roast beef, steak frites, and creme brulee. All were delicious to be honest. Couldn't name anything that tasted bad (or worse bland). A variety of drinks available from a decent wine list to coffee and beverages. The group got a mix of beers, cocktails and wine. THE FINAL BAMBOO: For our holiday party, we spent around $900 and had a great time. Staff accommodated everyone and was very attentive! Will be back to try more items soon.
We live nearby and love uptown so much. Their food and service is always 10/10. They have a wonderful happy hour until 6pm on weekdays and their food is always a great compliment to their happy hour drink deals. The Sports Club is one of my favorites. The Fried Chicken was fantastic The caesar was also great! We love the decor and the overall vibe.
Dined here for a midday Friday lunch and was pleasantly surprised. We were sat within 10 minutes without a reservation. The restaurant was busy for lunch hour but not too noise. My friend and I ordered hush puppies to start which were served warm and with a delicious remoulade. We each ordered a shrimp po-boy and fries to share. This was honestly one of the best po-boys I've had. It wasn't overwhelmingly big. The shrimp was fried to perfection. The addition of tomatoes, shredded lettuce and pickles made for a perfectly filling lunch item. The fries were well seasoned and served with a creamy aioli. To drink, I ordered the Rosalite- a gin cocktail that was fruity and well balanced. My friend ordered the El Jardinero- a spicy margarita. They said it was too spicy but others may like it. Service was quick and personable. The manager was present through our stay and table touched around the restaurant. I would def eat here again when I am back in the city.
Got a last minute reservation this past Saturday night. It was incredibly alive and busy inside. We got seated right away and knew exactly what we wanted. I was really looking forward to my entree - shrimp and grits, but unfortunately it fell short. I didn't finish and as the server was taking it away, she asked how it was and I was honest and said I didn't love it. She handled it so professionally and got it taken off the check which I truly was not expecting at all. Thank you, Carly! She was so friendly and attentive. The rest of our food was great and I'd go back for everything except the shrimp and grits. I'm not sure what flavors it was supposed to highlight but it was just off and way too salty. Loved the oysters, drinks, crudo, shrimp cocktail and burger! And it is a very cool building, with a New Orleans feel.
Really [3.5]...Dined in the main room (although there is a patio/outside) and loved the space which almost felt like you were in someone's home. Our server was lovely - attentive without hovering and very kind throughout dinner. Highly recommend the pimento cheese snack to start with (maybe try asking for extra crackers, because we still had half the spread left with no crackers and ended up eating it on its own). When placing our app/snack order also ordered the boozy orange and cream shake. It was GREAT and do recommend it; however took forever to come out and arrived after our main entrees. Our server was very kind and did not charge us due to the long wait time. The shrimp po boy was...just okay. For $17 you get lettuce/veggies and a few shrimps, little disappointed there. The bread tasted generic as well. Does not come with fries or a side, but after tasting the fries that came with the chicken sandwich, maybe a good thing, they were slightly soggy. Ended the night with the bread pudding and loved it! It's a generous portion and can be split between 2-3 people. It does have a bourbon aftertaste which some may/may not like, but I didn't mind. The bread was very very soft and worth getting!
I stopped by for their happy hour and was excited to try their steak and frites. Unfortunately, I asked the steak to be cooked medium and it came out well done. Waitress was so sweet and asked the kitchen to remake it for me. The second time, it came out medium well (some pink, but was close to well done). I told them to not worry about it since either way, the steak still tasted good and I'll eat it. The manager was also nice and they made it up to me by removing the steak and frites from my bill. I enjoyed the drinks, and their pink moon oysters. I'd come back again to try their other east coast oysters and Orange & Cream frozen boozy drink. Their outdoor patio seating is also fully covered!
I love the ambience of this place. It was like old-school Austin, but updated and almost trendy. They served brunch late on Saturdays, which was awesome. The brunch menu was varied. You could get a regular breakfast, a sweet treat or something more lunch like. I had the cinnamon roll and it was delicious. It was huge and just the right amount of doughy. The frosting was fantastic, but I'm pretty sure I gained 5 pounds eating it. My friend of the gumbo. It was a little spicy, but she enjoyed it. She also had some pink cocktail that she raved about, but I forgot what it's called. They do a jazz brunch on Sundays, which I really really want to check out. NOLA comes to East Austin. Aaron Franklin has hit another home run with revitalizing this historic building and offering a New Orleans vibe and menu. We only stopped by for a cocktail, but the menu looks fabulous. We did see some of their entrees, and the burgers looked wonderful. The shrimp cocktail had jumbo shrimp. Keeping with the NOLA theme, they serve po-boys, gumbo, raw Gulf and East Coast oysters, and grilled oysters. There is also a very comfortable shaded patio out back. A return visit to explore their menu is on our calendar. If you are an early bird, happy hour is Tues - Fri 2 - 6 PM. read more

This place was recommended to us and I'm glad we came. I got the Caesar salad it was delicious and the perfect ratios. The double smashy was also very good, and the fries weren't that salty but had good flavor. The inside was decorated nicely and is definitely a cool place to come with your friends. I would recommend to a friend coming to Austin. Our server was kind and prompt. read more

We stopped by The Uptown Sports Club on a Saturday just after noon, and I'm so glad we did. The restaurant was about half full, and we were able to seat ourselves. We were greeted right away, and the service was fast and genuinely friendly. I came specifically for the roast beef po'boy--and it did not disappoint. Hands down the best I've had in Austin so far. I was told there were only two left for the day, so I got lucky! The bread? Authentic Leidenheimer--crusty, soft, perfect. Absolutely delicious. Although we were on a mission for po'boys, the brunch menu looked amazing and is definitely on my list for next time. The restaurant itself has a ton of charm. After we ate, we walked through the outdoor space--lush garden, cozy seating, and total New Orleans vibes. A hidden gem with great food and atmosphere! read more

Server Alex was great, food was great. Back patio area was super cute, very loud but that's eating out BABY. Burger was great, fries super good, kinda like wingstop but not sweet. I didn't eat the fish, but was told it was a 4/5. Bread pudding was hot and fresh and 4.5/5 Also the host was super nice and fantastic and the place aesthetically is really cool and chill. read more

What a cute little sports bar. It's located on east 6th street, so there's plenty of charm inside and outside. I had the roast beef sandwich. It was loaded with juicy meat and flavor. The bread was perfectly soft but it didn't get soggy. Service was fast and friendly. I will be back! read more
Cool little place. I wasn't too hungry so kept it simple with avocado toast. It was very good. They have a small menu and some decent options. Table next to us kept getting small little apps. Might be a good way to go. I would for sure go back. read more
The ambiance of this place is really nice! I've been a few times and the service is consistently good. The food to me is okay - the burger is good and is something I would recommend getting. Sunday's they have a special dinner menu which is to be shared family style. The steak could use more seasoning but the potatoes and Caesar salad is really good. My wife and I were in the mood for some Cajun food since it was around Mardi Gras, and this place did not disappoint. First off, the sandwich I had was unfortunately on a limited menu so odds are the Fried Oyster Poboy won't be available, but man it was good. I was considering this or the fried shrimp poboy, but im pretty sure I made the right call. By the way, getting hot sauce on it made it that much better. Now let me tell you about the Rice and Beans, oh ... boy ... those rice and beans were absolutely fantastic. I had to basically fight my wife off in order to get more bites because it was seriously that good and tasty. I will say this, the prices were pretty up there but I'm not gonna take off points since everywhere is expensive these days. TLDR: This place was seriously awesome and I absolutely wanna get their food again, especially the rice and beans. read more
Heaven is just a door away I hadn't realized this secret late night gem on east sixth such a beautiful ambience front and outdoor, very gorgeous patio. My husband and I were visiting Austin for a few days so I made it a point to do some research. Uptown Sports Club was on my list because not only is it co-owned by one of the owners of Franklin Barbecue, it serves Louisiana inspired food. My husband is from New Orleans so I thought he might enjoy it. We trekked from our hotel to East Austin, which was quite a walk, by the way. We made it for Happy Hour and checked in with the hostess as I had made a reservation. We opted for some drinks from the HH menu. I had the Le Figue Rose and he opted for a dirty martini. He was disappointed that there was no catfish po'boy on the menu. I was ordering a patty melt from the HH menu so he opted to do the same. We saw on the menu that it said Texas Toast was used. But what we received looked more like prepackaged thinly sliced wheat bread. It was covered in house made potato chips and it was quite good but it wasn't the thick toast I was expecting. Service was pretty good. My husband even asked our server if there were places he'd recommend to go see some live music. He couldn't even tell us despite being a local. He said most of the bars and clubs don't do live music like they used to so he was the wrong person to ask. I guess so. For the most part, it was a fun treat to check out Uptown Sports Club, but we were kind of underwhelmed. read more

On Franklin's day off, you can still grab a brisket sandwich, or switch gears and go for a Po-Boy with a cup of gumbo at Uptown. I love the laid back not-actually a sports bar vibe (although you can still catch the playoffs here), and believe it or not, my favorite dish is still a salad topped with fried shrimp. Green Goddess is zesty with fresh dill, shrimp perfectly crisped with a hint of Old Bay to remind me of NoLa (without the dingy hangovers). Uptown Sports Club is a great spot to grab a drink and some Louisiana-style food for brunch or dinner while downtown. The interior is super aesthetic, the service is great, and the food is reasonably priced for a downtown restaurant in Austin. FAST FACTS: * Parking - street parking nearby * Reservations - available online through OpenTable * Online ordering - available online through ToastTab * Dog friendly SERVICE - I arrived at 12:15 pm for a 12:30 pm reservation for two on a Saturday and was seated right away. The workers were all super pleasant! Julie was a great server and made sure we had everything we needed from start to finish. PRICING - The total was $57.38 after tax ($4.38) but before tip for a chicory & chocolate freeze ($10), cup of gumbo ($7), downtown burger ($14), fried chicken biscuit sandwich ($14), and cinnamon roll ($8). For a downtown Austin restaurant, I feel like the pricing was reasonable. CHICORY & CHOCOLATE FREEZE (7/10) - Overall, this was a delicious milkshake! It had a malty chocolate flavor but the chicory didn't really come through. I'd order this again if I wanted a cool sweet treat before or after my meal. GUMBO (7/10) - This was a great gumbo and the cup was a great size as a quick appetizer to split. The chicken was super tender and the broth had great flavor but the sausage got kind of lost (which is surprising considering they serve Franklin sausage links). I'd order this again if I was craving gumbo but it wasn't something I'd go out of my way for. FRIED CHICKEN BISCUIT SANDWICH (9/10) - WOW! This was the unexpected highlight of the meal! The biscuit is buttery and flaky, the fried chicken is SO juicy and tender, and both the aioli and hot honey bring so much contrast in flavor to the overall sandwich. The bacon gets kind of lost. If you've ever had Bird Bird Biscuit, this is right up there as a top chicken biscuit sandwich! I'd order this again in a heartbeat! DOWNTOWN BURGER (5/10) - This was super disappointing... especially after the chicken biscuit sandwich. It was incredibly basic and the beef patty had almost zero flavor. The bun was okay and the bacon added some flavor along with the other toppings (cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, mayo, and mustard) but absolutely nothing stood out. I wouldn't order this again. CINNAMON ROLL (8/10) - I didn't know what to expect for this because I couldn't find any pictures but I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was! It's served in a bowl and is unbelievably soft and gooey... just how I love my cinnamon rolls! It's served with flaky salt on top which was INCREDIBLE! I'd order this again! This was my first time at Uptown Sports Club and I'm happy I tried it. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit again but I'd stop by if I was in the area. I'd recommend it to others just to try the fried chicken biscuit sandwich and cinnamon roll but it wouldn't be at the top of my list for Austin restaurant recommendations. read more
Husband and I came here during the week they were doing their Mardi Gras specials. Husband got a fish poboy and I, being a vegetarian, got their fried green tomatoe sandwich. Also shared a side of red beans and rice. For drinks husband got a regular cold brew with milk and I got a dirty chai latte. I thought my drink was delish! Husband thought his was just OK, but I don't know what he was expecting with just coffee and milk. We got the red beans and rice first. And honestly, it's probably the best red beans and rice I've ever tasted. And that's coming from somebody who is born in Louisiana. Granted I have not had red beans and rice in quite a while. But my husband and I were just blown away by the taste of those red beans and rice. The sandwiches we ordered were quite good, but unfortunately they did not come with any sides like chips or fries. Considering that we paid upwards of $15 to almost $20 for the sandwiches, I would definitely have suspected that it would come with a side. The price, the sandwiches were pretty good. Honestly, the thing I was probably the most disappointed with was the king cake. It wasn't that it didn't taste good, it definitely did. But we paid $10 for a very small slice of it. I wasn't aware the slice would be that small when we got it. For $10, I was expecting something a little bit bigger. we finished it off in just a couple bites. Uptown Sport Club nails the vibe with an awesome happy hour from 2 to 5 PM -- perfect if you can swing a late lunch or a summer Friday. Don't miss the $6 Aperol Spritzes and $8 martinis, which pair perfectly with their ridiculously good burger. Whether you make it for happy hour or any another time, the food is outstanding and the service is attentive. The staff is friendly and their uniforms are fun. Great spot for lunch, brunch, dinner or just a cocktail. Parking is limited, so walking, biking, or rideshare is your best bet. read more

Plan ahead, make a resy and street parking can be hard to find. The service was great! Super friendly and prompt! The decor is such a vibe! Indoors can be a bit loud. There is outdoor seating too. read more
I really enjoyed dinner here! A gf and I went last minute and we were seated on the patio. The server was super friendly and knew the menu well. We ordered the shrimp poboy, half chicken, and tuna crudo. Shrimp poboy was so good!! Loved the bread and the fried shrimp was cooked nicely. The tuna crudo was bomb and had great citrusy flavor, fish was fresh. I enjoyed the chicken; it has a smoky flavor and the juices were quite flavorful with nice seasoning. The potatoes and carrots it came with were cooked well and a nice accompaniment. The portions are big. It's a casual atmosphere and a great place to check out on the east side. read more
