Chalmers is a whole vibe! This the first time visiting Chalmers and in full transparency, I had never heard of this bar before this visit. You might ask, "Why were you there?" Yep, to pick up BBQ at Rollin Smoke BBQ located inside Chalmers. This bar is huge with two outside patios...the one in front is medium sized and the one towards the back is mega huge. The large patio has a huge TV monitor where you can have an excellent view of the screen from virtually any seat. The bar is located inside in the air conditioned section, which is where the DJ spins tunes. While I was waiting for my order, I was enjoying the music, which permeated out to the patios clearly and distinctly. When I was texted that my order was ready, I was a little sad to leave. The outdoor patio area is large, very clean and comfy. There are picnic tables, lower tables with camp chairs, and high tops. The outdoor patio is so comfortable that I wanted to take a nap. No joke. Absolutely loved this place. ID checked upon entering and the bar is simply that, indoor ordering area with ample outdoor seating with mister fans to keep things cool. They had Dascada food truck and Rollin BBQ for food options. Went with the espresso martini on tap and it was pretty tasty. Free water as self serve also helped to keep hydrated. Seating was open so we had no issues and overall vibe was relaxing. World Cup game started shortly before departure and was nice to have it on all TV and the sound was easy to hear. read more

Ambiance is the best part of this place! Outdoor relaxed chill vibe. Can watch so many sports on big screens in lawn chairs. Yes, they are provided . Service was fine. It's order at the window and pick up when ready. We got the "playboy" sandwich. Brisket, pulled pork and Jalapeno sausage piled into the sandwich. Was tasty! One of the coolest bars in Austin has to be Chalmers. Branded as The Original East Austin Oasis, I think Chalmers has one of the best feelings of any bar in the city. Some bars can get too rowdy or feel too sleepy, but Chalmers always strikes a perfect balance of good energy and good vibes. It feels like the people who go to Chalmers are the ones in the know. Inside, there is the main bar along with two patios. One patio is larger, featuring food trucks and plenty of long tables for big groups, while the other is smaller and more covered. Throughout the space, there are plenty of TVs, so you always have a view of a game if that is what you are there for. Chalmers feels like a prime sports watching atmosphere. One thing I really like about Chalmers is that it is simply an aesthetically pleasing place to be. The white walls paired with touches of burnt orange make the space feel welcoming and relaxing. There are QR codes at the tables to order drinks without having to wait in line, along with a traditional bar if you prefer ordering in person. There are plenty of cocktail options, including some on draft, around ten beers on draft with more available in cans and bottles, and a little bit of everything else. They also serve their own food and have multiple food trucks on site. Chalmers is a great place to catch a football game and get some drinks while at it. There's a lot of different food options all around as well. I ordered some margaritas that were great and a smoked mac n cheese that was absolutely delicious and only $5 but makes sense for the size. I got dropped off but looked like there was a good amount of parking for anyone looking to drive there. We went to go watch the Texas v OU game. It was incredibly hot and the screen did turn off a couple times which was for sure frustrating (and there could've been more shade but i understand that's difficult), but overall was a great time! Chalmers has become a go to spot in Austin and for my friend group to enjoy drinks and whatever sports may be playing. Unfortunately they're sticklers about playing game sound regardless of the sporting event, its relevance, and the current patrons at the bar who are watching. For example, its Masters week and there's a large majority of people here with their laptops working from the bar (1pm-4pm) and watching the Masters but the Bartender essentially said "there's only 2 people watching the masters and nobody wants to listen to it". Which was just categorically wrong as there's numerous people watching and also a confusing statement as Chalmer's is advertising as a watch party for the Masters? I've had numerous negative experience with this Bartender over various visits as he's extremely rude / seems annoyed to be serving you and especially if you ask him any questions. Other than him, I've had a great experience with the Chalmers staff. read more

Chalmer's has a relaxed, chill Austin vibe that I am here for. With staying on brand to Texas, it's super dog (& kid) friendly and serves tacos and BBQ. Though, be warned: you'll be smelling like BBQ for a solid 24 hours, even if you didn't order it. & the tacos? There's a reason why Discada (the taco truck on-site) is on the Michelin Guide. For sport fans, you'll be content. There are TVs EVERYWHERE and the seating outside is super casual (literally, lawn chairs around fire pits). Technically, Chalmers is on the Near East Side of the City of Austin. As far as I was concerned, I was on a boat on Lake Travis - Back in the days when Lake Travis had water in it. The gentle rippling of the surface of Lake Travis Was actually the gentle rippling of the floor of Chalmers. My friend told me afterwards the floor of Chalmers was not rippling. Chalmers was on my "try it out" list for a while. I love armadillo den and I believe the same people own Chalmers. So yes, I'm here because of instagram. I was influenced, but the hype was worth it. I actually stopped by unplanned when my partner and I were looking for an outdoor space to have a casual dinner. Parking was meh, we didn't have a problem finding some street parking though. It was the night before the UT/UK football game and right off the bat I for sports bar vibes. But it wasn't bad, just lots of huge tv's playing football. They had several fire pits with chairs around them, most of them had a reserved sign. Would have been nice to have some available for walk in people, it was a cold night. The drinks were good, I got the frozen Mexican martini. Decently strong, great flavor. We ate from the bbq truck, enjoyed the brisket "frito-Pie" and my partner raved about their chicken. Texas women's basketball made it to final four but they said they weren't going to show it, and instead are showing the Mens final four march madness game versus a local team for a women's game. Prior to March madness I had inquired about reserving a fire pit for the Super Bowl. Was told that they don't do reservations and it's first come first serve. Once I got there on Super Bowl Sunday, all of the fire pits were reserved for what I was told "shareholders". Please, turn down the volume of the music. Inside was at a total roar where you can't hear someone sitting directly next to you and outside is just a bit better. The queso is good. The Caesar salad is good. The cucumber salad is a side salad size, so make sure you know that before ordering. My friends got tacos and said the fry bread was really hard. Everything is order in app and pick up at windows. The doors outside the food pick up need the hinges switched to be push from the outside because you can't pull the door open when your hands are full of plates. Checked out Chalmers a few weekends ago with a group of friends. It was 6 of us, and it was packed when we got there, so it was at least 5 minutes before we were able to scout a table (which was for 4, so too small for us but we made it work). Drinks were very standard and did not stand out at all. It's a pretty young crowd -- you get ID checked at the door, so they're clearly worried about underage drinking (should give you a sense of how young the crowd really is here). Music was loud, and there was a tiny public water jug that was broken. Given how hot it was, I felt that this was detrimental to the enjoyment of customers, and we ended up leaving pretty quickly once we finished our drinks and wings. A pro for Chalmers is the location. It's in a walkable area, which is always nice. There is also a mix of indoor and outdoor seating. read more

The frozen Mexican martini's are strong and perfect for patio drinking. Chalmers is located right off Cesar Chavez in a prime location in East Austin. There are a few spots to the side of building and street parking off its namesake Chalmer's street. You enter from the Chalmer's side of the street. The back patio is still a work in progress but it looks like it will be awesome when it's ready. For now there's a pick up window for the food, an indoor bar / dining area with plenty of seating and a front patio with lots of powerful fans and just the right amount of shade. The front patio is fenced in but not too tall that you can't watch the view on the main drag. You can order at the bar or via QR code. There are two frozen drinks and several popular cocktails on draft as well beer and wine. I got the frozen Mexican martini which comes with a pickled okra spear and an olive. The drink is perfect nice and dirty - salty and sour. Just what you want in a bar drink. If you want sweet there's a frozen Shirley temple too. The cactus shot is has a Tajín rim and is rum based with a slightly sweet and sour taste. I also had their espresso martini on draft. A great pick me up. Many ordered the mojito and margarita as well. For food, the salads were refreshing but my only complaint was the croutons were slightly stale but the lettuces and dressing were a-ok. I also got the burger which was a flat top burger - double patty - that had a good ratios - definitely a better burger than most and plenty of fried too. I ordered way too much and also got the wings too. Very satisfying portions and enough to share. The fry bread tacos were not ready yet. Service is great. What a darling new patio bar! Tons of outdoor space in the front and back to hang in. The front patio is covered, which is great for a little sun protection and also you can still hang out there if it's raining. I am excited for Chalmers 2.0 when they expand the back and will have live music, creating an east side version of Armadillo Den. The drink price points are reasonable compared to what Austin is turning into which is nice to see, $13 for a draft cocktail (like a cold brew martini) still seems a little expensive but could be much worse. There is a frozen dirty shirley on the menu which is well balanced and a fun take on a classic drink! The service is great and attentive, you can order from the bar / walk up food window or you can order through the union app. There was a number of people clearing tables and checking on service. I ordered food through the app and I wish it had been a little more descriptive. It was not clear that the chicken fried steak came with fries or that any of the handheld items came with fries. I probably would not have also gotten a salad had I known. All in all, the food was tasty! Will deffo be back. Excited to have this in the neighborhood! read more

I understand Chalmers just opened and they could still be working out some kinks, but still wanted to give my two cents of my recent experience. First, it's soo nice they have inside seating and the AC works really well. My friend immediately said the floors were giving off a lot of echo and making the room louder even though there weren't many people in there. The outside is beautiful and spacious, and they are still working on opening it even more on the other side of the building. I know this place will be a hit though, so not sure if my review will even matter lol. You scan to order and then pick up your food at the window outside. The food we tried was just Eh. Next time we said we'll try the burgers. The chicken fried steak tenders were exciting to see on the menu so we ordered those, the crack wings, fries, the fried bread tacos, as well as the pecan brownie. The menu didn't say the tenders came with fries and bread since it was on the appetizer menu, but we didn't need the other order of fries at all. The gravy dip it came with was very bland. Didn't know the fried bread taco came with 2 tacos either. The bread was hard and the whole thing was extremely salty. It was hard to eat. We took it apart and ate it with a fork and the fries, but still we noticed it was really salty. The wings were good. I didn't try any of the cocktails but it's a cool place for sure so I will probably be back and I'll update my review. Just wanted to share my experience for management! read more

Great interior! The decor creates a very fun and specific vibe. Very West Texas! The queso was yummy! A little thin and salty but overall great flavor and a good sized portion. The Mexican Arancini came with 4 balls. They were very cheesy, had a nice crunch, and a yummy lightness from the salsa. The Frozen Dirty Shirley was so delicious! It tastes like a complex 7/11 slushy in the best way possible. So so yummy, perfect drink for a hot day. We got the Chilton as well but it had an odd flavor. I have a feeling Chalmers is going to be a go-to for me! The overall vibe is so cute and very well curated. There's tons of seating and they're expanding even further. They've also got a great TV setup that'll be perfect for football season. Food: The onion straws were so good. They were perfectly thin and crispy and the side of ranch was some of the best I've had which is a big statement coming from me! The chips and dips were great too. Personally, I didn't love the wings. Drinks: I got the frozen dirty Shirley and loved it! It was a little sweet so a one and done kind of cocktail for me but I'd get it again. The menu was stacked with tons of options. Service: I didn't talk to too many employees but everyone I did talk to was super nice and accommodating. Chalmers seems to be one of the new kids on block. Recently was shared one of those classic instagram videos of a tour of the newly converted gas station bar and kitchen, so we decided to have our book club meeting here. The vibes are top notch. If they did one thing super well, it's the instagram-able vibes of the patio. The branding is solid. The graphic design is cute. The colors are nice. It's definitely a cool place to come hang with some friends for a nice atmosphere. We went on a Wednesday evening so there wasn't a lot of people and nice enough to sit on the patio. (It is a smoking patio just fyi) Other than that, everything else was a bit average. Which was fine. I didn't try any of the food, but drink wise it seemed to be a usual $12-16 dollar average quality cocktail. The ordering experience is 0 human interaction and your tab stays open on your phone which is cool for going at your own pace. All in all, cool place to check out for the vibe but wouldn't be my go-to if I'm in need of a cocktail or food. read more

Nice space on the east side. I like their menu of drinks on draft like espresso martinis and frozen Mexican martinis! There is an indoor space and a much larger outdoor space, both in the back and in the front. They have a ton of TVs that show football on Sunday. Just beware...in the back they play blaring country (and other random) music and do not play sound for any of the games. We inquired about having the volume turned down so we wouldn't have to yell at each other and also tried to get one of the games on the speakers. They said that only if the Cowboys are doing well in the 4th quarter will they put football on the speakers. Seems kind of odd for a place that advertises showing football on Sunday. Was going to the bathroom when this really short bouncer with a beard kicked out two random guys for doing drugs in the stall. Apparently they dropped a beer, which I never saw because I don't look at my feet when I walk, and I unknowingly "kicked it". So this power tripping bouncer decided to kick me out and put his hands on me disrespectfully when I was already going home. WE tried the BBQ food place and it was delicious but get there early they went viral so most of it was sold out. Bartenders were great no complaits here. Cons, They do not offer any NA beers just a suggestion to add these before dry Jan. Came here with a group of friends to watch football and get drinks...the frozen mexican martini was good but wasn't that good on the rocks so I'd recommend getting the frozen!
