My boyfriend and I had some friends in town and decided to check out La Holly. We found free parking easily on the street and walked inside. It's a pretty small space inside the bar area, and it was packed, so it was a while before we were served. We were in no rush, so this didn't bother any of us! We ordered and then found a picnic table that was free out back. The space itself is cool, but I was a little disappointed by the drinks, which I felt were bland and a bit boring. Cute little bar on the corner of east 6th and perdernales. It's in a small converted house and one of the few remnants of the original neighborhood. The bar is focused on mezcal cocktails though they have a full bar so it's not entirely specialized like other mezcal bars. There's also ample outdoor seating that faces perdanales street that is visible from the street and sidewalk so this place is really popular when the weather is nice outside and right after work. They have a happy hour two that shaves off about $2 a cocktail. There's also an onsite food truck that you can order from just scan the QR code and pay from the app and pick up the food from the truck. They serve tacos and chips. I would say the tacos are just okay so I wouldn't come here just for the food. read more

Omggg I HAVE to talk about how DAMN GOOD the food is!!! We came in on Friday night (8/20) around 7pm so it was hoppin', but luckily we were able to find a seat inside. It's pretty loud in there, small space, filled with people, loud music -- we didn't want to sit outside (still too damn hot), so be prepared for that loud vibe. I was standing in front of the bar looking at a menu when the two guys sitting at the table next to me just randomly and simply stated, "get the pirata." I took it as a sign from the universe and that's exactly what I did. Totally straying from my normal go to (fish or chicken) the protein here was beef fajita so I was a little nervous. But all was calm in the world when I took that first bite. This taco is THE SHIT. Reminded me of my grandpa's cookouts when I was a kid. I text my Mom immediately, sending her pics saying, "Apa's relative must have made this meat." So full of flavor!! We also ordered the chicken quesadillas which were delicious with the cheese ring on the outside. My guy got the fish taco and said it was good, too! I will be back, COUNT ON IT! read more

*3.5 or 4 stars for the bar. *-1,000 stars for the food. We met some friends here on Wednesday evening for food and drinks before heading to a jazz show. The bar itself is divey and intimate; drinks are small and expensive, but that's the new Austin, so no hard feelings. Service is hipster chic, but the guys were personable enough. If we had just come here for drinks, we would have left happy. Normally we're fans of Taco Flats because we've been to the Burnet location a few times and enjoyed it, but we had a terrible experience here and never want to go back now. The main issue was their ordering system--SO HORRIBLE. The stupid QR wasn't working and after going through the whole annoying and cumbersome process of ordering, we couldn't check out. And we tried several times. So when one of us went up to the truck to try and order from there, nobody could speak English or place our order. Great business model!! Our friend was finally able to get it to work on her phone, and when the food finally came out, it was laughable. The brisket taco consisted of, like, 75% pieces of pure cut up fat. The shrimp taco did not smell right. We do have to say that the birria taco was the only one that we enjoyed. And that the chips were pretty solid (queso was only OK). In whichever case, the food ordering experience infuriated us beyond belief--enough to make us feel that we would never want to come here again nor patronize the Burnet location again. 2 stars instead of one--only because the bar was fine. read more

La Holly is the best bar on the east side, imo. This place does so many things right. There a few things that make this place stand out: -It's not loud (you can actually hear people in your group and don't have to yell -Indoor and outdoor spaces are cozy and can easily acomódate large groups -Cocktails are great and they also have a ton of mezcal pours you can chose from -Taco Flats has great tacos and chips and guac -Bathrooms are clean -Lastly and most importantly: It's never overwhelmingly packed. This place is very comfortable. Great for an intimate date, after work drinks, or night out with a big group of friends. Cons: -Don't go after it rains. You'll be sitting inside or on a wet seat. -Some staff can be rude which really sucks. Including ownership. Luckily the rest of the bar makes up for this. read more

This place was a great spot to hang out with friends outside while enjoying chips and tacos. There were many picnic tables with shade available. The website said the food would take 35-40 minutes and we almost left. But we decided to stay and so glad we did! Not only was it ready in under 10 minutes, but it exceeded our expectations. The chips were thick and crisp. Theyhad a great crunch and the guacamole and queso had great flavor as well. I had a shrimp taco. Very tasty. Had the al pastor and pescado tacos. Wow, they're great! Initially I thought the tacos cost way more than other taco places, but after I got my tacos I can see why. The tacos are filled with good amount of meat and the fish taco had a large piece of fish in it (not just the flakes). I also got the habanero salsa, which made the tacos even better. The al pastor is a bit oily, but I don't mind since the meat was very flavorful. Be prepared to eat your taco with a spoon since it's so juicy lol. read more

If you love mezcal, then you HAVE to check out La Holly! They come up with really innovative ways to make mezcal shine in all their drinks. Happy hour is from 4-6pm on the weekdays, and you get $2 off their cocktails -- but maybe not their house specials drinks? My friend and I arrived early on a weekday around 4pm and ordered their specials, but we didn't see the discount when we closed our tabs. I got the Sueño Helado (Icy Dream) which had sweet orange and pineapple flavors, while my friend got the harder, more robust mezcal special that was mixed with vermouth, El Amante (The Lover). We sat outside to enjoy their spacious outdoor bench seating as the city started to cool down after a hot December day. (Yeah, it's like that here...) It was nice to have the place to ourselves to chat over some delicious drinks, and then watch the place fill up by the time we closed out our tabs about an hour later. I think La Holly is a perfect pit stop for happy hours or bar hops. The ambiance was chill, and everyone at the bar was super friendly and helpful. It was a simple order for one taco - beans, spinach, avocado - on a rainy Sunday 4pm. I reached 15 minutes after placing my order and the guy said it will take another 15 minutes!? There was no one else around - no cars waiting, no one at the bar - like it was thunder and lightning. The amount of stuffing in the taco was generous but it was quite bland without dousing a lot of salsa on it. The beans had great texture though! read more

I'm just another EA noob that just moved here but we can blame that on La Holly and Taco Flats! :) La Holly is a chill pad with some amazing drinks. It feels like it's in a similar vein with Half Step and Whislers to me. They are great. I've been working my way down their list and I haven't had a bad one yet. Spirit forward or light and refreshing - they have it. I usually grab a drink and order food (which is sent to Taco Flats - food truck outside), they hand you a pager and a buzz or two later and the food is ready. What a marriage made in heaven with these two places. Head in after work for their happy hour and see what the buzz is about. read more

I enjoyed the patio seating because there are plenty of mister fans and covered seating--especially needed in this 100+ degree weather. The patio area is more spacious than the inside of this bar, it's extremely small. The food truck is expensive for smaller tacos, but it's really delicious, I ordered the Chicken Mole. The atmosphere was eh... weird. Drink are overpriced and slow service. Overall decent experience. Still parking is available. read more
