Al Adobada (Pastor) Taco ; Carne Asada Taco

Really cool taco speakeasy spot! My friends and I stopped by for lunch, and it was fairly easy to find (due to their flashing TACO sign lol) and the line wasn't too bad. They're known for their adobada/al pastor tacos, but I actually thought their carne asada was the standout. The tacos were very flavorful and juicy. Perfect for a quick snack. I also really liked their branding and ambience inside. Would definitely come back!

I have lived in Texas for over 24 years now, and this is the best taco place in state! I got the pastor burrito with cheese and guac. They grill the cheese onto the tortilla and it's amazinggg. The rice and beans amazing. The salsa amazing (has a good kick). Seating can be tricky but worth it!!

If you have the opportunity to checkout this alleyway taco spot (ain't nothing sketchy, I promise) and soon discover this is a speakeasy spot for tacos and not cocktails. I've been before during a late night pit spot, but I recently had the opportunity to go for lunch. The line was so effective and moved very efficiently. I appreciated how one person took your order, a second grabbed your order ticket, and they had a full lineup of chefs/cooks executing each station. The feature quesadillas, tacos, burritos and a few sides for you to dig into. Whether you're planning to eat on-site at their tables, grab a standing spot in the alleyway, or taking them to go, you'll be in for one amazing meal. I really love their salsa stations and ample amount of toppings. This is very much an authentic feel to a taqueria you'd come across in Mexico so that was cool.

Hidden in a dim alley, this spot is easy to miss, aside from the glowing neon "Tacos Open Late" sign that hints you are at the right place. We stopped by after a local friend's recommendation. Once you pass the bouncer (yes, there's a bouncer) and the bar, the contrast from outside to inside is striking. The room is tightly packed with people either lined up to order or already digging into their tacos. We ordered the Al pastor and carne asada tacos on corn (3.5/5) and the Al pastor quesadillas (5/5). I appreciate that the tortillas are made in house and the Al pastor came with generous chunks of pineapples that added perfect touch of sweetness. Overall, a great late night spot with solid food and fun atmosphere, but good luck finding seats!

A worker at another restaurant I visited said this place had the best tacos in Austin. This place is literally in an alley and I must say he did not lie! These might be some of the best street tacos I have had. I got the carne asada volcan' and the pollo asada. You order your food and then take your ticket to a worker to fix your order. The steak is seasoned to perfection! Such a cool and lively spot and they have a bar in there. I have got to have this place again before I leave Austin to go back home. Yum!

What a delicious taco spot! I loved their chicken and beef tacos. They were super helpful on deciding what to get. Everything was made to tender perfection. I can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu.

Nestled in the corner of a dark alley, lies a small taco shop that looks like it's in the back of a bar and you can only tell it's a taco shop by the illuminating sign in the front that reads "Tacos open late" When we arrived, by what seemed like an accident, there was a security guy outside and a line that was forming with about two people in it. I think we beat the rush because it started forming quickly behind us. To the point that when we left the lines was all the way down the alley. Anyway, they quickly allowed us to go in and follow the line which moved fairly quickly. The place had seating in different areas and they all seemed to but full. However, if you stand around you can quickly take someone else's spot when they leave. I decided to try several different tacos, so I went with a carne asada, al pastor, chicken and a mixed asada and pastor taco (campechano: your choice of two meats). I also got a Jamaica to wet the whistle. Overall the food was good and I would say my favorite was probably the Al pastor with the pineapples. That mix is legendary and they got it right with the thick chunks of pineapple. The size of the tacos are a decent size so four tacos was more than enough. Even though I'm from Oxnard, California and I feel wee have some of the best Mexican food, I would def come back to try some of their other options. OOOO 4 out of 5 Afros

If you can, arrive slightly before they open at 11:30 am. This place gets packed immediately and rightfully so. It's a little off the beaten path, you have to access the front door through an alley next to where the Austin Convention Center used to be. Once you enter, there is a small bar and then you head inside to the actual restaurant. It's small so there are only a few open tables so get there early (like I mentioned) if you can. The line gets long very quickly but it also moves like a well oiled machine. It wraps around from the entrance to the actual copy Ter. You order at the cashier, after you pay, they hand you a receipt that you then hand to the workers who will make your tacos/food to order. Everything that I ate was delicious. My favorite tacos were the pork and the beef. The nopal taco was a little plain for me but it wasn't bad, just not my standout. This place is a gem and I hope they are able to expand into a bigger space ASAP!

Overall: 4.5/5 [take out] Wow, this place is a cool taco speakeasy tucked in the middle of an alleyway. It was our first time there and the layout was really fun. They are super efficient; we ordered online for pickup and everything was ready in less than 5 minutes! They held off on our drink until we arrived so it would be fresh and not watered down, which was a nice touch. They packaged everything neatly and included one of each sauce. All the sauces were great, but the spice wrecked my stomach. It's a slow burn, so be careful how much you use. Nopales Asados Volcan ($8) + Pollo Asado ($1.50): A massive corn taco that I could only eat folded in half. It was okay. I wasn't really a fan of the nopales, and I remember it being better last time. They gave a generous portion of chicken too, which was cooked and flavored nicely. Campechana (Asada y Pastor) Quesadilla - Flour ($8.49): This was fire! Delicious, and even better than the taco version. Adobada (Pastor) Taco - Flour ($5): My husband's go to order. Tasty, and the pineapple added a nice sweetness. Campechano (Asada y Pastor) Plate ($14.99): Came with your choice of tortilla on the side, so we got corn, which was fresh and soft. The plate comes with meat, rice, and beans. If you're watching carbs, skip the plate and go with the taco version, which is tastier anyway. Campechana (Asada y Pastor) Burrito ($14.49): Basically the plate in burrito form. I didn't find it as flavorful as the taco version, so it really needs sauce. Also a bit messy to eat. I could only finish half, so you might get two meals out of it depending on how hungry you are. Grilled Nopales Cup ($4.50): A good amount of cactus, but it really needs sauce or should be eaten in taco form. Not great on its own. Agua Fresca 16oz Horchata ($5): So fresh and noticeably different from other horchatas we've tried.

Probably one of the best (if not the best) taco restaurants in Austin - For sure a hidden gem!! It's located in downtown and hidden inside a bar. We were very confused where it is and how to get inside at first but luckily we saw the sign outside of the bar and decided to "barge in". This is my second visit and I absolutely love everything on their menu! You can't go wrong with any tacos/meat options that they have. All tacos are so juicy and love that they have different sauces to choose from. I highly recommend the flan, not very sweet and full of flavour. The Arroz Rojo was pretty good as well! Must try if you are in the are, fast service right after you order. Parking is the only downside since it's located in downtown.

Such a cool place with a speakeasy vibe! You enter from an alley, walk through the bar & finally get to the food line. It well organized & moves quickly! I'm originally from Southern California, and this food rivals our taco stands! No Tex-Mex here! Seating is limited, but we sat on some park benches next to where we parked. I had 2 Al pastor tacos & a carne asada taco. My friend had a pastor and a carnitas. No complaints at all! We'll be back!

Almost missed a great opportunity for authentic tacos! So glad I had time to stop before my flight home. The entrance in an alley way, you'll see a very small parking lot! You'll walk all the way through the tables and condiment corner to get to the line. You'll order at the register, get you ticket, take it to a cook that they assign and watch them do their magic.! They whip them up pretty quick make sure you get all the toppings (onion, cilantro, guac) you'll take your food and find a seat! The corner condiments are next to the bar seating. I missed it and didn't realize until my tacos were gone lol Asada burrito- meat, cheese, beans, rice it was big and flavorful. 5/5 Chicken tacos 5/5- good portion of meat, good tortillas. I ordered 2 flour 2 corn but ended up with 1 flour 3 corn i didn't get it corrected cause who cares at this point. Honestly I was full from half a burrito but forced myself to eat a taco. Thankfully I had my husband and friends hubby to eat what I couldn't finish. If you're in the area and need a good food stop here especially after a long night of drinking.

We came in from a secret looking door.

This ended up being the best food I had during my weekend visit to Austin. Delicious Tijuana style tacos. The restaurant is between 3rd & 2nd street in some alley. It was a speak easy style entrance. It's a little pricey per taco, but we were looking for something late night last minutes and this spot delivered. If I ever make it back out to Austin they'd be on my must return list.

I ordered 2 steak tacos and horchata, both very delicious. The horchata is milky and sweet but not crazy sweet, and topped off with cinnamon. The steak tacos came out pretty hot, fresh from the grill. I got them on corn tortillas and I'm glad I did: idk if they make them in house but somebody in some house is making these because they definitely aren't store bought, and if they are I want to know where! I tried the orange habanero and creamy serrano salsas. The habanero was spicy off the bat, while the serrano had more of a lingering burn. Both paired well with the steak. They have a little bar, too, though I did not imbibe this time. Seems like they have a decent selection of agave spirits, and even Campari behind the bar (iykyk). Give them a shot, and thank the ladies in the kitchen.

I've driven by El Alma many times being in the Austin area, but I never went until last Thursday, and after surviving a brief monsoon, I was glad to get a few drinks and eat some good TexMex with my large party just before a wedding. The best way to describe El Alma is that it is TexMex that is Austinified. Everything feels a little more unique and special than your classic TexMex options. I started off with a Mezcal Margarita that put a little hair on my chest and got me going. My group ordered two of their Nachitos, which were these nice nachos. For my main entrée, I got 3 Al Pastor tacos on corn with a side of their rice and beans. Their pastor was served with pineapples, onions, and cilantro with limes on the side. They were great and I immediately crushed them all. I thought their rice and beans were pretty good as well and a step above the typical TexMex rice and beans. The server was pretty attentive throughout our whole visit, and I honestly have no complaints about what they had to offer. Pricing on the meal and drinks was pretty standard for Austin, and I didn't think anything really took me out of the experience. On top of that, for being in Barton Springs, there is quite a bit of parking. I would love to come back at some point in the future and hang out on their rooftop bar because that seems like a lot of fun. Shoutout to El Alma for being a TexMex oasis saving me from the MoPac traffic. RIYL: TexMex, but better than your average
