Streets were bustling and even the random guitar player made it near our table for a serenade. Sorry buddy, don't carry cash. It's this easy to get a table here now? I'd probably still pick Chuy's BTW. Vibrant green (Verde) salsa. Acceptable roho (Red) and you can dress it up with pickled jalapenos and white onions. We liked the Queso Flameado but it was a bit bland with just the white cheese. Offer protein options like shrimp or chorizo. We ordered the No. 1 dinner. After an appetizer, this plate is easily shared. Decent fajita taco, chicken enchilada, and tamale. Unique approach to the queso chip where you just get chips and a tiny queso. Pinche guero! This Tex-Mex spot is one of those places that has a great location, great atmosphere, cool stuff to look at in a fun spot, but mediocre Tex-Mex food. But no worries! It's hard to mess up chips and salsa with tequila shots. They excel at this. The salsa is for gringos. The tequila shots are for hombres. The service on the shots is muy rapido at the bar. The place seems to be fairly clean. The bathrooms were in good order. It's handicapped accessible. Parking can be a challenge, as it's in the middle of the South Congress area. Take a bike or the bus. I wouldn't come from across town or across the border to visit this place, but it's a wonderful place if you're just looking for some cheap-o shots on SoCo. Went shopping down Congress for some western gear. My bff and I wanted to try "Tex-Mex" food since we were visiting from California. We don't dine in, and ordered to go. On a Saturday night this place was pretty busy. I give location 4 stars since we were hungry and the ambiance was pretty inviting. However I gave the 3 rating because for Mexican food, especially tacos, I have a high standard. I ordered the no 1 combo and I was highly disappointed in the enchilada. Even though my order was to go, I just wasn't satisfied it wasn't drenched in enchilada sauce. It might just be me, but the sauce is my favorite part. Also it came with a steak taco and I was just underwhelmed. My bff ordered the 4 taco combo and we were both disappointed. However, I do love the sauce bar everywhere. That's the only thing that made me think of this place as a "taco bar". Other than that, this is an ok place to go if you're visiting Austin and want some sit down tacos to eat. read more

An average taco spot. 3.8 to be more accurate. Price is okay for where it is. I would say the sides are not really worth it in terms of price and quality. This became a place we went to a lot in Austin due to the location, atmosphere, decent food, and amazing frozen margs. Is it the most outstanding Tex-Mex you'll ever have? Probably not. But it hits the spot, especially the chicken tinga tacos. Their Heartbreaker frozen marg (pictured below) was one of the best I ever had. Service has always been wonderful, fast, and accommodating. Didn't eat here most recent visit, so not reviewing the food. But this place is iconic - and oozes old Austin vibes, and makes me nostalgic for a different era. For those who saw the movie Chef, you'll recognize this as the bar depicted where Gary Clark Jr was playing. Great setup for live music outside, nice spacious area with plenty of seating. Sound is good. Great local bands. Cheap / reasonably priced drinks, friendly and quick bartenders. Nothing beats drinking a cold one on a breezy night in Austin listening to live music here. The staff is fun and friendly, making the whole experience even better. The three choice taco plate is for the win, and paired with a cold beer, it's basically perfection on a plate. I may have flirted a little with my tacos, don't judge me, they didn't seem to mind. Chips, salsa, and margaritas are dangerously good, making it way too easy to stay for round two. He handed me the tacos etc and the dip which is in a paper cup in a soft paper tray and as he handed it, the whole thing spilled toward me, almost landing on my legs (it was a hot day so wearing shorts) and when I looked up, he said... We went to Guero's on Saturday night after the UT football game and the Christmas Affair downtown. The restaurant was packed but luckily we were all able to get seated at the taco bar! It was really nice of the manager to squeeze us all in or else it would have been close to a two hour wait! The food was awesome again! I ordered a cheese enchilada with a crispy beef taco. These were AMAZING! OMG, I'd get them again and again. My wife ordered the flautas and she loved them. Our server was great. The ambiance was also great as usual! Was downtime shopping for boots, when I get this inviting aroma: Tex-Mex! There was a 15 min wait when we entered around 12:30pm on a beautiful Saturday but they sat us outside immediately! Crispy, crunch chips were brought with pico, red and green salsa. Hubs loved them all! Ordered a Ranch Water and a Longhorn. They were both delicious but the food came to us quicker than our drinks. Drinks were superb!! I need to make that Longhorn at home. We ordered El Presidente platter and the Tex-Mex. Cheese enchilada was sooo yummy! Taco superb. Was surprised how good the tamale was. This is a wonderful Mexican restaurant in Austin. We found it by accident and decided to stop in. My husband and I both had enchiladas. I had the shrimp and mushroom and spinach with Frescas and verde sauce. The shrimp enchiladas had lots of shrimps about 6. That was my favorite because it was more flavorful than the spinach and mushroom. My husband had the brisket and Barbacoa with verde and Rojas sauce. I am not a Barbacoa person because it is always greasy but when I tried his it was not greasy at all. The service was fast and staff were very friendly. The restaurant looks small but when you walk in the door it is huge. We will come back again . read more

Guero's is iconic. It was one of the first places I went when I moved here. Be prepared as there is usually a wait. It's worth it. If you want to people watch while you eat then ask for an outside table. There is a tiny bar and if you can grab a spot there while you are waiting...go for it! Luckily we didn't have to wait for our two top. The chips are perfect! There is a "help yourself" salsa bar. There is red, green, and pico de gallo. They are all great. My fave was the red. It's a little spicy, so if that is not your jam then go for the green. We did what any sane person would do and ordered queso. We tried our "best" not to get too full on chips. ;) We both wanted tacos but not the rice and beans that come with it. There is an ala carte option for tacos. You can order as many as you wish. They have about 10 different choices. My friend got the shrimp and I got the chicken especial. I've been here many times. The service is good. The food is consistent. We wanted some classic tex Mex food and this fixed that craving! We were seated right away and got some margaritas. They were a bit pricey for what you got but they were good- classic. There was a misunderstanding with two of our orders but our server got the kitchen to fix it right away which we appreciated. Food is good, nothing crazy out of the ordinary. For food, we ordered a variety of street tacos: chicken al carbón, steak al carbón, and pork, all served on mini corn tortillas. The chicken and pork were the standouts--the chicken had a smoky, citrusy kick, while the pork was smoky, sweet, and tangy. Honestly, everything was delicious. I ordered the Señorita Plato which included one chalupa, one chicken especial taco, guacamole and chili con queso. It was a build your own taco plate where it had great flavor. I took some time to review other reviews before allocating my stars. I thought it was a good place! We came here in a group of 15 people FIFTEEN PEOPLE. Our ONE server handled our order perfectly with no mistakes and food came out pretty much at the same time. We arrived to a table with the crunchiest chips and 3 types of salsas to much on. We ordered queso, which my coworkers thought was ok, I don't eat liquid cheese, so I'll take their word for it. Our drinks were good, how can you mess up margaritas? They served it like 50 different ways, how can you complain when you can literally find your favorite version? I tried the chicken de mole and thought the chicken was moist and the mole was very delicious. I don't crave Tex Mex so this place was delicious to me. My co workers like their enchiladas, tamales, tacos. I wish the charro beans were a little spicier and swam in more a soup but it was still really good. I didn't pay so I don't know if that's the gripe. It's on South Congress so prices are going to be more, but they sell tamales for $2.45! My entree was less than $20. My margarita with lalo tequila was $12 and I got a small buzz, if i ordered another one, I would have felt nice. read more

Saturday afternoon we headed to the Patio for music with the grandkids. It is a nice place for them to dance and enjoy a friendly group of people. Inside for a fast dinner we were greeted nicely by front of houses & waiters helping with 2 booster seats. Thank you for that help! Kids loved the big $12 bowl of queso & the best tortilla chips ever. A kids menu quesadilla and beans were perfect for them. I enjoyed pork and beef tamales, $2.35 each. We had family visiting from California, and they were really excited to try Guero's. I looked at the yelp reviews and was not encouraged, but, they wanted to try it. Positives - cool looking restaurant, efficient, service, amazing location Negatives - I am 100% convinced that the chips were H-E-B brand and the salsa was Pace picante. My wife had the fish tacos and it literally looked like they put the fish and vegetables into a blender and poured it into her tortilla. Speaking of the tortillas, they too were subpar and appear to be store bought. Their beer selection is absolutely terrible . The rice and beans lacked seasoning in flavor. If it wasn't for the location, I don't think they would be very popular. There are tons of other authentic Mexican restaurants in the area that I would choose instead. read more
