My server was great - nice and attentive. My food came out so fast like nearly instantaneous lol. My queso was yummy and warm. The chicken tinga taco had some spice to it but was delicious and the el jefe taco was good but not special (I ordered the sauce on the side so maybe it tastes better when you include the sauce!). It was quiet and fairly empty on a monday night. All around enjoyed my experience! read more

I have no idea how long ago my first visit to Gueros was. I do know it was a long, long, long time before my tech bro Cali friends found Austin! Ups downs round and rounds,Gueros has seen it all. It's always been convenient though because I've always stayed on South Congress or very close. So the food has been there when I needed it after a late night at the Continental or to load up before a Sunday drive back to Dallas. The food and drink has always been berry berry goude to mi. I say strong Go! *Note- I've been visiting Gueros long before Austin morphed.. But,my reviews seem to have vanished? Thanks a lot Yelp Fortunately I dug up a couple of pics to recreate a review read more

Güeros is most definitely an austin staple! I'm a big fan of the interior design as it reminds me of Mexico City. Service is great , fast and one of a kind . Staff makes you feel like family and they are always willing to accommodate you. Live Music is always on point and I appreciate the fact that they always showcase local talent. The jalapeño margarita with tajin on the rim is my go to & All the food options are delectable but my personal faves are the tacos and enchiladas. Come on down! Your family is waiting ! read more

The staff here were so helpful to our scavenger hunt that we came back for lunch. The chips and salsa were delicious, as was the guac and queso flameado. I had the burrito especial with chicken fajita meat and it was huge! I ate about half of it and was too full to finish. Service was great, loved all the historical photos adorning the walls. Really lovely dining experience and they were great with our group of 10. read more

Serviceable TexMex. The dinning area was clean, but pretty unadorned. Staff were friendly enough. Food was on par with your usual Don Pablo / Chi Chi's fare. My tummy got a little upset after. Not sure if that was the food or something else. read more

Last review 2008; new wife asked for something different so I chose people watching on SOCO. No issue with reservations. In fact, I wanted to sit on the patio/sidewalk. Two tables good to go when we arrived! Would never happen back in the day. Same general area from my 2008 review. Streets were bustling and even the random guitar player made it near our table for a serenade. Sorry buddy, don't carry cash. It's this easy to get a table here now? I'd probably still pick Chuy's BTW. Vibrant green (Verde) salsa. Acceptable roho (Red) and you can dress it up with pickled jalapenos and white onions. We liked the Queso Flameado but it was a bit bland with just the white cheese. Offer protein options like shrimp or chorizo. We ordered the No. 1 dinner. After an appetizer, this plate is easily shared. Decent fajita taco, chicken enchilada, and tamale. Unique approach to the queso chip where you just get chips and a tiny queso. Guacamole, beans, and rice. AND, you're full. read more

Too bad Yelp doesn't allow reviews for food vs service. Service was decent. Food. Was. Bad. Like how are you in business anywhere much less TX. I was first struck with sadness at their tasteless salsa. Then full despair at their sysco processed "guac" which I attempted to make into an actual ..edible dish with lime juice, salt and the onions from the "salsa" bar. Yea. Don't bother. Got the fajitas thinking well how hard is that to get right. Apparently hard. Served on a diner plate, not sizzling and super bland. I asked for hot sauce and the nice man brought scorpion Tabasco. Well ok good as at least it's flavor but seriously? Chips were weird thick things too. I feel bad for the kitchen staff which looked like they probably know the crime they are being forced to commit. So odd the place was pretty busy with what appeared to be locals but it is in a pretty trendy area..so..ok but the lack of a wait should have been a red flag. read more

Breakfast tacos?! Hell yes! And these were spot on, lotsa eggs packed into nice size flour tortillas, with fresh ingredients. Got two, and the pico de gallo here is also outstanding. Very good service! Thumbs up for the brisket too. The place is pretty frigging huge but it's laid out very well. Great rustic ambience, basic but not divey, in an old building with high ceilings and a buzzy atmosphere. It's on South Congress so parking is tricky. read more

We went here twice during our vacation week. We sat out at the sidewalk tables and had a great experience. We only did beverages and they serve free chips and salsa. Good casual atmosphere. read more

We came here for tacos and the service was really fast. Happy hour all day on Mondays as well. It's great that they validate parking for two hours. The interior is a little old/outdated and could use a facelift. Bathrooms were clean and well stocked. They have indoor and outdoor seating with live music. The food wasn't the most amazing that we've had, but was still pretty good. The staff here were all very nice and attentive. read more

An average taco spot. 3.8 to be more accurate. Price is okay for where it is. I would say the sides are not really worth it in terms of price and quality. Ala cart seemed like it would have been a better way to go. The beers were pretty cheap. Frozen margs were also just average. This would be a place I would stop by only for survival.. read more

Güero's Taco Bar - Mexican Near Me - Austin, Texas

Incredibly average place, I wouldn't recommend if you are looking for really good food but it'll do the job. The service was a bit odd as well. They seemed to be rushing us out and even took our plates away when there was still a decent amount of food left on the plate and we had not been sitting long. It happened so quick and aggressively that we didn't have time to stop him before he threw the plates in the bin. Overall, food is ~fine~ and the chips were actually very good just not worth the stop in my opinion. read more

Pinche guero! This Tex-Mex spot is one of those places that has a great location, great atmosphere, cool stuff to look at in a fun spot, but mediocre Tex-Mex food. But no worries! It's hard to mess up chips and salsa with tequila shots. They excel at this. The salsa is for gringos. The tequila shots are for hombres. The service on the shots is muy rapido at the bar. The place seems to be fairly clean. The bathrooms were in good order. It's handicapped accessible. Parking can be a challenge, as it's in the middle of the South Congress area. Take a bike or the bus. I wouldn't come from across town or across the border to visit this place, but it's a wonderful place if you're just looking for some cheap-o shots on SoCo. Be sure to check out their happy hour specials. read more

Came here an hour before closing on Sunday night and they took us! Super friendly staff. I wish I could remember their names. Great manager and awesome server. I asked the manager what his favorites was, he suggested the Chicken Enchilada Suiza and a steak al carbon taco. Wow, both were so good!!!! My friend ordered a brisket taco and shrimp taco. She enjoyed the brisket taco so much, she got another one the next day. I am one of those who judges a Mexican restaurant being good by their chips and salsa - Guero's ruled! Both the rojo and verde salsa was great along with the pico de gallo. I washed everything down with a margarita on the rocks which too was great! Delicious food, awesome drinks and excellent service. I will definitely be back on my next visit to Austin. read more

Went shopping down Congress for some western gear. My bff and I wanted to try "Tex-Mex" food since we were visiting from California. We don't dine in, and ordered to go. On a Saturday night this place was pretty busy. I give location 4 stars since we were hungry and the ambiance was pretty inviting. However I gave the 3 rating because for Mexican food, especially tacos, I have a high standard. I ordered the no 1 combo and I was highly disappointed in the enchilada. Even though my order was to go, I just wasn't satisfied it wasn't drenched in enchilada sauce. It might just be me, but the sauce is my favorite part. Also it came with a steak taco and I was just underwhelmed. My bff ordered the 4 taco combo and we were both disappointed. However, I do love the sauce bar everywhere. That's the only thing that made me think of this place as a "taco bar". Other than that, this is an ok place to go if you're visiting Austin and want some sit down tacos to eat. read more

Good spot for some good Tex-Mex. It was pretty busy Sunday at lunch hour but there wasn't a wait. They have an unlimited salsa/green sauce/pico bar that you can use for the chips they provide- the salsa was my favorite. I ordered the gringo omelette which was quite good- the potatoes were my favorite part and nothing disappointed. Would recommend stopping by. read more

Güero's Taco Bar - Gringo Omelette - Mexican Near Me - Austin, Texas

I'm a local and ate here regularly. I was actually at the Oak Garden and paid inflated drink prices while enjoying the music, as I do most Sundays. I ordered food online, and although marked as delivered, it was never received. An hour of texting an AI bot did nothing, and they even refused a refund. I went to Gueros the next day and the manager basically said too bad. Very disappointing. Sorry, but you just lost a loyal local customer. Has anyone else had a similar experience with Gueros or chow now? You can message me at info@singler-law.com. read more

I had the opportunity to visit Güero's twice in a week. Our experience both times was fantastic. I particularly love the pico style salsa (though I wished it came in larger bowls - however, there is a help-yourself salsa bar, so refills were easily available). I also like that they have a vegan menu (for my food-allergic son), and take dietary restrictions very seriously. He had the soy tacos with extra pineapple, and was very happy. We shared the guacamole and the queso at the table. The guacamole was chunky and had some cilantro, which added some nice flavor. The queso was creamy, melty deliciousness. My summer strawberry margarita was a little on the small side, but didn't skimp on the tequila. I tried the carne guisada tacos the first time. They were tender and tasty, with just the right amount of gravy for a taco. On my second visit, I went with the meat lover enchiladas with steak and beef chili on top. It was a generous plate of food, and very good - but I definitely preferred the carne guisada from my first trip. The restaurant is huge, with plenty of cool indoor seating, and outdoor seating with misters for those hot Austin days. Our servers were both friendly and efficient. The location is in a fun, trendy area on Congress. Highly recommend. read more

Another stop on a food tour, I loved the interior decor We tried the Al pastor taco- this was a solid 10/10 for flavor- nice touch with the pineapple mango ! The tortilla chips and different salsas are also very tasty-you can tell everything is freshly made Dropped a star because I did not enjoy the Ranch water beverage at all I would stick to margaritas!! We loved this restaurant , great location right on South Congress, good food and margaritas and next door they have a really great patio/outdoor area that regularly has live music. Didn't eat here most recent visit, so not reviewing the food. But this place is iconic - and oozes old Austin vibes, and makes me nostalgic for a different era. For those who saw the movie Chef, you'll recognize this as the bar depicted where Gary Clark Jr was playing. Great setup for live music outside, nice spacious area with plenty of seating. Sound is good. Great local bands. Cheap / reasonably priced drinks, friendly and quick bartenders. Nothing beats drinking a cold one on a breezy night in Austin listening to live music here. Highly recommend if you want to experience what Austin was like decades ago, and hope it sticks around for decades to come! read more

Hadn't been in quite sometime and thought it would be fun to go again. We were not disappointed at all. I nearly forgot how good those hand-shaken margs are. The quesadilla, and chips & salsa really hit the spot on a hot spring afternoon. We had fantastic service and sat out on the front patio to watch the people go by while we dined. We went to Guero's on Saturday night after the UT football game and the Christmas Affair downtown. The restaurant was packed but luckily we were all able to get seated at the taco bar! It was really nice of the manager to squeeze us all in or else it would have been close to a two hour wait! The food was awesome again! I ordered a cheese enchilada with a crispy beef taco. Guero's Austin is a must stop, no questions asked. One of Austin's iconic restaurants, it's got all the vibes, great music, lively energy, and tequila that whispers sweet nothings to your soul. The staff is fun and friendly, making the whole experience even better. The three choice taco plate is for the win, and paired with a cold beer, it's basically perfection on a plate. I may have flirted a little with my tacos, don't judge me, they didn't seem to mind. Chips, salsa, and margaritas are dangerously good, making it way too easy to stay for round two. If you're in Austin and don't swing by Guero's, are you even living your best life? Come hungry, leave happy, and maybe leave a little love note for the guac while you're at it. read more

Was downtime shopping for boots, when I get this inviting aroma: Tex-Mex! There was a 15 min wait when we entered around 12:30pm on a beautiful Saturday but they sat us outside immediately! Crispy, crunch chips were brought with pico, red and green salsa. Hubs loved them all! Ordered a Ranch Water and a Longhorn. They were both delicious but the food came to us quicker than our drinks. Drinks were superb!! I need to make that Longhorn at home. We ordered El Presidente platter and the Tex-Mex. Cheese enchilada was sooo yummy! Taco superb. Was surprised how good the tamale was. Food was hot and seasoned very well. Restrooms were super clean too!!!' By the time we left, there was a huge wait. If you've Tex-Mex, this is a great place to check out. read more

This is a wonderful Mexican restaurant in Austin. We found it by accident and decided to stop in. My husband and I both had enchiladas. I had the shrimp and mushroom and spinach with Frescas and verde sauce. The shrimp enchiladas had lots of shrimps about 6. That was my favorite because it was more flavorful than the spinach and mushroom. My husband had the brisket and Barbacoa with verde and Rojas sauce. I am not a Barbacoa person because it is always greasy but when I tried his it was not greasy at all. The service was fast and staff were very friendly. The restaurant looks small but when you walk in the door it is huge. We will come back again . read more

This became a place we went to a lot in Austin due to the location, atmosphere, decent food, and amazing frozen margs. Is it the most outstanding Tex-Mex you'll ever have? Probably not. But it hits the spot, especially the chicken tinga tacos. Their Heartbreaker frozen marg (pictured below) was one of the best I ever had. Service has always been wonderful, fast, and accommodating. Güero's Taco Bar - Mexican Near Me - Austin, Texas

Guero's is iconic. It was one of the first places I went when I moved here. Be prepared as there is usually a wait. It's worth it. If you want to people watch while you eat then ask for an outside table. There is a tiny bar and if you can grab a spot there while you are waiting...go for it! Luckily we didn't have to wait for our two top. The chips are perfect! There is a "help yourself" salsa bar. There is red, green, and pico de gallo. They are all great. My fave was the red. It's a little spicy, so if that is not your jam then go for the green. We did what any sane person would do and ordered queso. We tried our "best" not to get too full on chips. ;) We both wanted tacos but not the rice and beans that come with it. There is an ala carte option for tacos. You can order as many as you wish. They have about 10 different choices. My friend got the shrimp and I got the chicken especial. I've been here many times. The service is good. The food is consistent. The people watching on soco is fun. read more
