Came here yesterday for the first time with my boyfriend for happy hour and we both had such a good time! For starters, the atrium area of the restaurant right off of the entrance is so cute. We showed up at 6 on a Tuesday and had no issue getting a table. Everything we ordered was excellent! The margs were delicious and the happy hour appetizers were a good size. We enjoyed everything thoroughly but especially enjoyed the ceviche and the tostadas. I am excited to come back here again!

    Margs and then some hehee!

This spot get busy so come when they're open unless you call in for a reservation beforehand!! Decided to come here for happy hour and sat at the bar. Greeted by Barry, he helped out on drinks and appetizers. Glad he was able to help decide on what to order cuz what was ordered was full of flavor and delicious!! Came in a few weeks later and back at the bar and this time Jimmy helped out. The staff here is awesome and the food, fan-friggn-tastic!! Going to come here again and again and again and again Hahaa!!

I've never been excited to write a restaurant review before, but Fonda San Miguel exceeded every expectation. Located just off the main road in the Allandale neighborhood, the restaurant sits in an area where quiet residential streets mix naturally with local shops. We knew immediately we were in the right place when we saw cars making a beeline for the valet. The dramatic, old-world entrance with its historic hacienda feel, set the tone instantly and had me genuinely excited for what was to come. We arrived about 30 minutes early hoping to hang out at the bar, but the place was already buzzing and completely packed! We were told we'd be seated closer to our 8 p.m. reservation, which was understandable given how lively it was. The air was filled with conversation and energy. We made our way to the bar, but every seat was taken, always a good sign! The bar itself is stunning. The back bar rises into glass-fronted shelves lined with vintage bottles, decanters, and colorful vessels, all dramatically backlit in saturated jewel tones. The bottles glow like artifacts. What truly elevates the space is the stained glass running beneath the shelving, so intricate, richly colored panels that cast a soft, prismatic glow across the bar top. Light reflects off the glassware and marble, creating a layered, luminous depth. This restaurant nails every important detail from service and decor to food and drinks. Our server, Daniel, was phenomenal. His recommendations were spot-on, and he checked in at just the right moments without ever hovering. What we ordered: Appetizers Lobster and Shrimp Tostada Special- one of the specials. A beautifully composed tostada topped with tender lobster and shrimp. Queso Fundido with Rajas- arrived bubbling hot, rich, and comforting, with the roasted poblano strips adding just the right balance of smokiness and depth. What truly elevated it was that it came with fresh, house-made tortillas. Angels on Horseback- beautifully executed, but what really stood out were the pickled vegetables served alongside the shrimp. Ate mine without the bacon. Drinks Pepino Pica (their cucumber margarita) -- so good I had two La Rubia- vibrant without being overly sweet Paloma- clean citrusy and well executed. A classic drink you can never go wrong with this. Entrees Vegetable Enchilada de Mole Poblano (my order): deeply comforting and beautifully executed. The mole was rich without being heavy, and every bite was savory and satisfying. One of my friends described it as perfectly authentic with an elevated flair. Beef Wellington Special: ordered by my friend, who said it was cooked and prepared flawlessly. Enchiladas Suizas: another solid, well-executed dish that was thoroughly enjoyed. Dessert Tres Leches (shared)- not your traditional overly sweet version. The flavors were beautifully balanced, light, and absolutely delicious. A small but thoughtful detail: my friend ordered a Coca-Cola and it was served in an OG glass Coke bottle, which felt perfectly on brand. Shoutout to Paul, the manager, who made sure every table was taken care of and was consistently present throughout the evening. Overall a 10/10 for ambiance, service, and food. Everything was top-notch. This is a must-visit in Austin, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone!

Reservations are available on Resy. Highly recommend as this place fills up quick. Plenty of parking in the parking lot and street parking nearby. The hostess stand is not as soon as you walk in, but if you walk a little further pass the tables, it's on the right. The service was very tentative, fast, and friendly. They offered several of their recommendations and none of them disappointed. I will be back for that shrimp dish for sure.

I came right when they opened and was able to get a seat in the atrium. Even though it wasn't the main dining room, it was still such a lovely spot due to how beautifully stunning the architecture and interior was. They have your classic chips and dips as you wait for your food and I enjoyed the dips sooooo much (we got 3 rounds of chips and extra refills on the dips). For my entree, I ordered their quesadillas with wild mushrooms and huitlacoche and it was so delicious. It looks pretty simple but the earthiness of the mushrooms paired with the cheese and the spices of the chipotle salsa went so perfectly together. Can't wait to come back here in the future!

Finally tried Fonda San Miguel; this place is truly one of the OG Austin restaurants, and it absolutely lives up to the hype. Parking was surprisingly easy, the interior is gorgeous with so much color and character, and the service was warm and attentive the whole night. I loved every dish we ordered, but the Enchiladas de Pato and the Carne Asada a la Tampiqueña were standouts. The tenderloin was perfectly grilled and came with guacamole, rajas, refritos negros, and a cheese enchilada with mole poblano that was incredible. And the tres leches is creamy, perfectly soaked!!! Already planning to come back to try the cocktails next time!!

THE BIG: Staple of Austin! Located in the Allandale neighborhood of Central Austin. Decor is like you're walking into a bustling hacienda in Mexico. At night the lights come alive. Parking is tough but there is valet and private lot available. THE BLACK AND WHITE: My sister was in town and she was craving some authentic Mexican food. We've never tried Fonda and managed to snag a table on a Friday night. It was PACKED inside. You can make table reservations but the front part of the restaurant is first come first serve. For food, we got the plato de miguel, cochinita pibil, and the short rib birria. Highly recommend the cochinita pibil. Came in a nice banana leaf wrapped presentation and the meat was super moist. The plato de miguel provided a nice variation of sampling. The lambchops were my favorite from that. For desserts, we got the vanilla crepas and the mole sticky pudding. I'm a sucker for anything that's vanilla crepas. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall, for everything, we spent around $150 for everything. Great meal and would definitely come back to try more food items.

5/5 Excellent food and service! I came with my husband and sister-in-law on a Friday night. We were able to find a seat by the bar. Note, the front of the restaurant is first come, first serve, where the right/back side is for reservations. It can get a bit hectic to find a table, so I recommend asking the people seated if you could have their seat after so no one else takes it. As soon as you walk in, you're transported to another place. The walls are filled with life and color! The service is out of this world. Roberto did an amazing job taking care of our order and brining out a dessert for my sister-in-law's birthday. Food comes out very quick as well! Highly recommend the San Miguel Platter to get a bit of everything. I also loved the short rib and the crepes for dessert. The flour tortillas are so so good as well. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu. There is free valet parking, or street parking (make sure you're not blocking anyone's driveway). Can't wait to come back. Fonda Fridays!!

I'm ashamed I've lived in Austin so long and only tried Fonda San Miguel last night for the first time. My boyfriend and I were celebrating Christmas and our anniversary and I was impressed even the hostesses knew to wish us a happy anniversary from our reservation. The place was decked out for Christmas and so busy- but I now know why! We started with a frozen guava margarita and the frozen sangria. The guava margarita was so thickly and creamy it was like a tangy alcoholic guava milkshake. Sangria was good, not great. I'd stick with the margs. We got the queso flameado, no chorizo. All I can is hell yeah! The cheese was so thick and melty and flavorful and the perfect level of salt. The blue corn tortillas and flour tortillas were warm and delicious and they brought us extra upon request for no upcharge. We were so full after just the app! For entrees we did the cochinita pibul and the carne a la tampequeña. First- the pork. Wrapped in a nana leaf and literally MELTING? Can meat melt? It felt like this did. The black beans were perfect and I like the plantains with the spicy sauce. My only change would be the rice was dry and not too flavorful. Served with tortillas to make more tacos! The steak was INSANE! Cut like butter and perfectly grilled to a medium rare. The enchilada suiza was delicious. We were both thrilled with our meals. I also got the sweet potato as an added side bc, why not- and it was the best sweet potato of my life HOWEVER I do not think it was worth a $12 price tag especially without any protein on it. But I'm glad I tried it. For dessert we had the tres leches, and my now you might see a theme- it was DELICIOUS. The mango sorbet was some of the best I ever had. Above all tho, the service was impeccable. Our waitress was so friendly, attentive, and wished us so much love and luck with our anniversary. She wrapped all our leftovers in nice separate containers and added in extra tortillas to take home without us even asking. I loved that she let us order and enjoy our appetizer before even asking if we wanted to order dinner- she just let us relax and enjoy each course. I will say the valet was a bit of a mess but they were super apologetic about it- and I cannot WAIT to come back!

It's been a while since we have been to Fonda San Miguel. We celebrated 2 years since we bought our home. Service was superb and very friendly. The tostadas appetizer was great. We'll balanced flavors and a beautiful presentation. The sweet potato side dish was wonderful. It was just the right touch of sweet to go with savory spices. My wife enjoyed the Enchiladas Suizas. The star of the dinner was the Adobo Negro Ribeye. The Ribeye was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The crispy mushrooms on top were tasty and went well with the steak. The Adobo Negro sauce was smoky, earthy and all around delicious.

Made reservations here for a Saturday night, so happy I did. Place and atmosphere was beautiful. Complimentary valet parking is available for your convenience which is always nice. Once we made it in we were guided to our table by the wonderful staff here. Everyone here was so nice and courteous. Food was amazing! Drinks were amazing! Also not pictured were the Ceviche Las Brisas we ordered, which tasted great and very fresh! Dessert was great as well as we took to-go the Flan de Almendras and Galletas del Dia. All were fantastic! Immediately added this restaurant to my favorites.

Possibly the BEST MEXICAN FOOD ever! And YESSSSS!!!! It's pricy however the BEST & FRESH INGREDIENTS so be prepared. We ate in the bar where they have traditional seating plus 2 & 4 top tables which is great. The restaurant opens @ 5pm however the bar opens @ 4:30, both take reservations ( highly recommend for the dining room) so if your early seating is really great! We ADORE their margaritas, seriously some of the tastiest I have devoured, especially the watermelon just saying Aside from delisssh food the atmosphere is stunning & from what I can tell authentic decor. Their Christmas decorations were still up as of last Saturday and the decor was all white & silver soooo really added some glam which was a pretty added touch. Onsite self parking (if your early) or valet if you prefer. You won't go wrong at Fonda San Miquel you just gonna have to dig a lil deeper in your wallet....it will be WORTH IT

Home sweet Fonda - man I love this place. I got to take my traveling dinner crew here the other night, and everyone left satisfied. I went a little TOO hard on the queso fundido and ceviche that by the time our enchies came out, I was full. Our server checked several times if I had an issue since I didn't touch the enchiladas at all (much appreciated), so I had to let him know I've had the suiza enchies before and I KNEW they'd be fire for work lunch the next day! The restaurant is such a cool spot to take out of towners or on a date. Like I said before, happy hour is the way to go if you can snag a bar seat ;)

I've driven by El Alma many times being in the Austin area, but I never went until last Thursday, and after surviving a brief monsoon, I was glad to get a few drinks and eat some good TexMex with my large party just before a wedding. The best way to describe El Alma is that it is TexMex that is Austinified. Everything feels a little more unique and special than your classic TexMex options. I started off with a Mezcal Margarita that put a little hair on my chest and got me going. My group ordered two of their Nachitos, which were these nice nachos. For my main entrée, I got 3 Al Pastor tacos on corn with a side of their rice and beans. Their pastor was served with pineapples, onions, and cilantro with limes on the side. They were great and I immediately crushed them all. I thought their rice and beans were pretty good as well and a step above the typical TexMex rice and beans. The server was pretty attentive throughout our whole visit, and I honestly have no complaints about what they had to offer. Pricing on the meal and drinks was pretty standard for Austin, and I didn't think anything really took me out of the experience. On top of that, for being in Barton Springs, there is quite a bit of parking. I would love to come back at some point in the future and hang out on their rooftop bar because that seems like a lot of fun. Shoutout to El Alma for being a TexMex oasis saving me from the MoPac traffic. RIYL: TexMex, but better than your average
