We absolutely love Vivo. It's a true Austin classic. The atmosphere is casual and a little romantic with low light inside. The chips and salsa are free and are so good. We started with a spicy strawberry margarita frozen with tahin. For dinner we had the fajita taco plate and shrimp taco plate. Both were superb. Vivo is a little restaurant tucked into a shopping center, and it ended up being an enjoyable lunch spot. Our waiter was great, friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the start. They have a front patio near the entrance and a bar with a TV in the back of the restaurant, giving diners different atmospheres to choose from. The food reminded me of the mid-range Mexican restaurants down in the Valley, which brought back some good memories. The salsa was really good. It wasn't the hottest salsa, but it had enough kick that we ate it all and they served us a second bowl. I ordered a chalupa and a cup of caldo, and both hit the spot. My husband enjoyed his cheese enchiladas and really liked the gravy. I wanted to leave a higher rating, but unfortunately a big roach ran across the floor during our visit. That definitely took away from the experience. Even with the roach, I enjoyed the food and the service. I'm just hoping the restaurant addresses the pest problem asap! read more

Very mediocre Tex Mex food. Stopped in for a quick dinner before seeing a movie at AFS cinema next door. They've got a nice patio which we opted to sit on. We visited during happy hour. Ordered a couple of house margaritas, which were presented nicely but tasted very watered down. Got the spinach + mushroom quesadillas and the Trio of dips to share. Quesadillas were not good. I make better ones at home honestly. Low quality ingredients and a tough/chewy tortilla. The dip trio was slightly better, but the "bean dip" was just refried beans and the queso was lacking in flavor. Guac was fine and the chips the trio was served with were soft and tasty. Not worth the steep $16 price tag for this dish. Service was fine but a little slow. Definitely a one time visit for me. read more

First timer at Vivo. The ambiance was so romantic for the price point, I think I stumbled across what could potentially be a gem for date nights. I had the puffy tacos and the service was great. The only reason I am not giving a full 5 stars was because: 1. the music: loud reggaeton really didn't fit the ambiance, in my opinion. i just felt like i was at a dance club and not so much an intimate sit down restaurant that didn't really give off a club vibe. it was very loud and after a while it became annoying and ruined the dining experience for me. 2. i got the 2 puffy tacos and the ground beef one was delicious. but the other i ordered was bean and cabbage and if i had known it was going to be the same refried beans that came as a side with a sprinkle of cabbage on top i wouldn't have gotten it. they might as well have given me a tortilla to make my own taco with the beans & rice. it was bland and just too much refried beans. very unoriginal, i do not recommend. i really thought it was going to be different and was disappointed. This place is a maybe for me. I do appreciate the pricing and service! maybe i'll give it a second chance one day. read more

Flavor, value, and solid vegan options coalesce to make a compelling argument for any meal. Starting out strong with free chips and salad, don't skip the generous array of margaritas, both frozen and on the rocks, flavor with everything from prickly pear to cucumber. I accidentally was served the frozen version rather than the classic requested, but it was so remarkably refreshing and well-balanced, I saw no need to send it back. The real selling point, however, is "Emma's Choice." You can take your pick of any enchilada and any taco, plus rice and beans, all on one loaded plate. The puffy taco with tofu was phenomenal, like eating a taco salad in a proper fried shell. For healthier cravings, the mushroom and spinach enchiladas can't be beat, and you have even more choice for sauce, including rojo, verde, and chipotle, for those dairy-free. Vivo is one of my favorite TexMex restaurants and I come here anytime I am close to the Linc shopping center. Vivo features TexMex favorites such as puffy tacos as well as traditional dishes, and a variety of cocktails at a reasonable price. You can choose to sit indoors or on the outdoor patio. The service is always amazing. I usually request to sit in Alejandro's section because he provides attentive and friendly service. The chips and salsa are complementary, and these are the only part of the meal that is not my favorite because the salsa is VERY spicy. They have a variety of great cocktails. I usually get a frozen margarita with strawberry or mango puree. It is served with a decorative flower for a classy touch. I also tried the Mezcal Union Paloma with Mezcal Union Uno Joven, fresh squeezed grapefruit, splash of squirt, on the rocks and the El Jardin with Seedlip Garden NA Spirit, cucumber puree, lime juice & simple syrup. On the rocks. I love starting with the El Cuartro which is a great introduction to all their TexMex favorites. It includes 2 mini puffy tacos, (1 beef/1 chicken), cheese and pico de gallo quesadilla, 1 chicken flauta, and 2 California nachos, served with sour cream. You can customize the puffy tacos but it is a great sampler platter to try all their specialties. For my entree, I always order the Cameron's choice a combo plate featuring a chalupa (compuesta, veggie, or tinga) and an enchilada of your choice, served with whole grain brown rice and beans. I customize my plate to add beef fajita to the chalupa. It is served crispy and fresh. I get the cheese enchilada with chili con carne sauce. Their rice is so unique and healthier because they use whole grain brown rice. Overall consistently good TexMex food with great service. read more

Came back here recently and unfortunately me and my boyfriend had a bad experience :( I got the shrimp enchiladas and they were not very good but the service was honestly pretty disappointing. It was not a very busy night and everything was soooo slow. I didn't get my margarita until after my food came out (I ordered it when we ordered our food) and it took awhile to even get our food. Our server was nice enough but our waters were empty for the majority of the time we were there and stayed that way even after we asked for a refill. I recently visited here with my friend and we had an amazing dinner! The parking situation outside is a bit of a mess as the spaces were incredibly narrow, but there's a lot next door that allows for a bit more room in parking. We did have a reservation and were promptly seated by the host, who was incredibly friendly! Our waitress was also very prompt in coming over to take care of us, but it was a bit harder trying to get our bill to pay and go home at the end of the night. I felt bad because we left after close, but we asked to pay before then and were told not to worry about it and not to rush. I always hate leaving after a restaurant closes, so I think I'd try to get everything taken care of sooner the next time we go! As for the food, everything was delicious and I absolutely LOVED that when I asked if the tortillas for the enchiladas were only corn and had no wheat, the waitress asked if it was for a gluten allergy. After I let her know it was, she told the kitchen to prepare everything separately to help prevent any contamination. So thankful for that! I don't know that I would order a flavored margarita again, as it was good, but I didn't taste as much of the hibiscus. BUT I will absolutely be back for the enchiladas and flan!! This is a good place for TexMex. All the menu items we had were excellent. The prickly pear Margarita was pink but otherwise indistinguishable from a regular Margarita. I had a great experience at Vivo this past week! I ordered the puffy taco plate (shredded chicken and bean w/ cabbage and other veggies) and it comes with beans and rice. It was a really filling and delicious meal, and it costed $12 + tax and tip. I think that's cheap, considering how much eating out costs these days. My friend ordered the chipotle enchiladas, and she said it wasn't that great, which is why I deducted a star. Service was great, and the server came by often to see how we're doing. It was kind of dim inside, so it gave off a formal vibe, but you don't have to dress nicely. Tl;dr: Service and vibes were good. I took a friend here an hour before closing last night, just to share a quick appetizer and a drink after a long rehearsal night. The chips were still buttery fresh, the salsa had its usual delightful kick, and the margaritas never disappoint. This restaurant is super colorful and moody inside -- jewel toned walls and dark lighting, perfect for a casual date or happy hour with your bestie. My mom and I have loved this spot ever since it opened because of their beautiful sangria swirl margaritas and tasty food. We ordered the California shrimp nachos, and my friend asked for "no pico" while ordering which was a surprise to me. The order came out with pico and to my horror, my friend sent it back (HEARTBREAK!! I would have happily eaten that delicious looking plate)! It turns out my friend is one of those unlucky people to whom cilantro tastes like soap... what a bummer for her... and me, last night lol.
