She was attentive from start to finish, asked about food allergies right away, and made sure everything went perfectly for our special occasion. She checked on us at all the right times without ever making us feel rushed, and her recommendations were spot on. She suggested the Gulf Snapper Aguachile as an appetizer, and it was fantastic. Had a wonderful dinner on a Sunday evening. Weather was nice enough to sit outside on the beautiful patio! If you can get outside seating DO IT! Felt like I was on a beach vacation. Dinner took about an hour and a half total from start to finish. Our waitress was great ,although very busy throughout dinner, didn't feel like we were left hanging. Ordered the red snapper tacos and for $25 wished there were three since they are smaller. Tacos themselves were very fresh and solid taste wise. Dessert was a flourless chocolate cake and was not overly rich, recommend if you don't want something sweet! Could've done without the pears though, seemed like an afterthought addition. If you're looking for a cute, chic rooftop moment, this is it. La Piscina sits on the rooftop of the Austin Proper Hotel right by the pool, and the whole vibe is exactly what you want it to be. Effortlessly stylish, relaxed, and perfect for warmer weather days. I already know I want to come back and actually stay at the hotel because everything about it felt elevated but still fun. We stopped in for cocktails and kept it light with chips and dip, and somehow even that felt like a standout. We've been to La Piscina a few times and have had absolutely stellar dining experience each time we're here. During this visit, I've only tried their seafood, not their meat, which is also great especially the steak fajita is usual pretty good too. From start to finish, the seafood was impeccable and clearly prepared with care. The star of the show was the grilled octopus. It was cooked to absolute perfection--incredibly tender, with a slight char that gave it a wonderful smoky depth. But what truly elevated the dish was the accompanying sauce. It was complex, savory with a hint of sweetness, and simply excellent, complementing the octopus without overpowering its delicate flavor. This dish comes with chícharron, a nice taxes texture to the dish. Besides with their complimentary chips snd salsa, we began with the oysters and they set the tone perfectly. They were the epitome of freshness: chilled, clean, and with that beautiful, sweet, briny flavor of the sea. The service was attentive and the atmosphere added to the overall lovely lunch. This has been our FAVORITE place for steak fajitas for a while but I'm not sure what has happened recently. The last 3 times we've ordered the no 1 steak arrachera fajitas they have been bland. Great quality and texture but no seasoning and lacking salt. I tend to like modestly seasoned & salted food but the fajitas seemed some tasteless recently. Some of the best fajitas in Austin! We can for an early dinner yesterday and it was my bf's first time. The chicken and steak are my fav but we decided on the pineapple and ribeye fajitas. The steak was cooked perfectly but the flavor fell flat for us. Our rice and beans were okay as well! Our server was very polite and quick! I enjoyed the open kitchen concept and the interior compliments the hotel (Mexican modern vibes). The dining room can be a little tight in certain areas but we made it work. Highly recommend this place. The food was delicious and they do not use seed oils. The steak fajitas were the best we have ever eaten anywhere and generous enough to split. The guacamole was mostly just avocado but they put pickled veggies with it and it will light you up! Our server was super sweet and did a good job and the place was slammed. It was SXSW weekend so all of the extra crazies were in town. The churros do not get cooked inside. They were wet and gummy. We mentioned to the manager and she was very apologetic and replaced them immediately. They were still raw inside but they were already removed from our ticket. The house margaritas were very good! Like I said, it was a crazy, busy weekend so the DJ had the tunes bumping really loudly. Not sure if it's always this way but with concrete ceilings and floors it was loud. Real rating is 3.5. Over all food and drinks were great. But there was a random dog running around the pool area that no one seemed to have control over. Kind of irritating when you're trying to relax. A cabana is the way to go but the seating for the couch slides all over the place. Service was great for how busy they were! They say the first taste of a meal comes through the eyes. If that is true, La Piscina has the perfect hostess. Makenna (sp) is a girl-next-door beauty; tall and slender with grace wrapped around competence. She is the perfect example of a business that puts its best foot forward. She also knew the menu, something rare of servers much less hosts. She obviously made an excellent impression, something very valuable to a hospitality business, I'm sure. The meals we had there were also outstanding, tasteful and unique. I think my favorite meal there was BBQ Benedict at breakfast. Who would have thought. I'm guessing this space was designed by someone from Wisconsin or Minnesota who doesn't understand what happens to Central Texas starting in June - it wasn't even that hot (high 95, low 75) and it was hot inside. Like blast some A/C or fans. To be fair once it started emptying out a bit it cooled off. With that out of the way, the vibe, decor, service, and food were all fantastic. On that note, this place is alot cheaper than you'd think - like Fajitas - $50...but they feed three people..not even joking. Had a great time at La Piscina two weeks ago. It was a Saturday night and we didn't have a reservation. I knew we were taking a chance but we lucked out and were able to get two seats at the bar. It was a perfect spot to see all the action. Our bartenders were quick with drinks- I opted for an original margarita because I had to! My fiancé decided on a beer. The chips and salsa were delicious. Loved the green sauce and the chips themselves were perfect. Crunchy, salty, and fresh. We shared the steak fajitas. OMG they were awesome. Meat was tender and cooked perfectly. And all that cheese!!? Yes please! We had both corn and flour tortillas and thought they were both great. We loved the vibe of the restaurant and everyone around seemed to be feeling the same way. I'd recommend this spot to anyone looking for some Tex mex. As soon as the chips and salsa hit the table -- fresh, bold, and clearly made in-house -- we knew we were in for something special. We were a group of five and split a bunch of dishes, which was the way to go because everything was delicious. The standout was definitely the fajitas -- they came out sizzling, loaded with flavor, topped with fresh cheese, and served with warm tortillas that were perfection. So simple but so well-executed. It's located on the rooftop of the Proper Hotel, which adds to the whole experience. After dinner, we grabbed a drink by the pool and enjoyed the view -- such a great way to end the night. Best fajitas I've ever had!! We had a reservation which was helpful because the people checking-in in front of us couldn't be seated at a table without a reservation. They sat us right away and service was great the entire night (including our food and drinks arriving so quickly!) I ordered from their Dry January drinks menu and the Mojito Seco was incredible! I loved the chips and salsas that were brought out. The main highlight was the fajitas (and the fresh flour tortillas that came with it). Both the chicken and the steak were so flavorful and a taste I've never had before. The only thing I didn't love was the rice. As far as ambiance, I liked the music and even Shazamed a song. Nestled on the 5th floor of the gorgeous Austin Proper Hotel next to the pool, service was attentive, interior was cozy, and the chips and salsa were the star of the show. We're talking $5+ fountain drinks or ice tea with no refills, $20+ cocktails, $12 "wellness" juices, etc. They didn't even have regular drip coffee - just a $6 Americano. The meat was well-marinated and flavorful and the tortillas were decent. They also surprised us with complimentary churros for dessert since my reservation had noted we were celebrating an anniversary! Overall, it was worth experiencing at least once. QUICK FACTS: - Parking? Hotel valet is $25 and they don't validate, so you're better off with garage parking or street parking around downtown! This was my first time visiting the Proper Hotel. We ubered there since parking can be difficult. I enjoyed the vibe all throughout the hotel. La Piscina is located upstairs with a beautiful view and the pool to the side if you are outdoors. I had called for reservations and highly recommend to do that if you don't see availability on the booking site. We were sat promptly. The host and server were very attentive. The app of chips, salsa, and a guac type salsa were amazing!! And the fajitas were abundant and so tasty!!! It was cooked to perfection! The cocktail as well was very worth it! I feel like the sides that came out with it were well thought out and more then what you would typically get with standard fajitas. Oysters are not my thing but they were done well. I mean " La pascina" does mean fish so you have to try some of the seafood, right? Our server was super attentive and we never had to wait for another marg or tortillas (so important lol) My only TINY complaint would be the seating arrangement was...a little silly. We were the only ones in the entire restaurant and got seated at arguably the worst table in the restaurant.. and against a cement pole. One of the waiters quickly moved us which was nice. Half way through dinner the host sat the ONLY other table right next to us. Literally we could touch them. Whenever our waiter would come to serve us they would bump into the table bc we were so close. It just doesn't make sense when every other table in the entire restaurant was open. I get that it doesn't speak for the restaurant overall but just thought it was worth noting. At a cheaper restaurant it wouldn't bother me but as a higher-end Mexican restaurant details like that matter more imo. read more
