Solid taco spot / bar!!! Was visiting Austin Downtown with some coworkers and we were craving Mexican food, but also wanted to get a drink. This place had the best of both worlds!! I had the guava margarita - refreshing and yum - as well as the quesadilla (brisket) and chicken taco. Both were devoured. delicious. no notes. I would say the only thing that is keeping my rating in the 4.5 range is the smaller menu, some things were sold out, and got a little bad vibe from one of the workers when picking up my food. Did some shopping in Austin and a sales associate recommended this place. There is also a separate business (Asado?) located in the back patio that offers tacos - scan a QR code located around the bar or tables to order ahead because it takes about 10 mins for food. Las Perlas' tacos are a local favorite: in fact, an Uber driver and a bartender at another bar both pointed me here. On my visit, the mouthwatering brisket taco fulfilled its promise: it was crispy, it was beefy, it had a slightly crisped tortilla, and it was served hot off the flattop. It was delectable even before I doused it with the provided green salsa and lime. Unfortunately the cheese quesadilla was short of perfect: I think the cheese needed salt, and its thickness threw the bite out of balance. On top of that, my guava margarita was astringent, and somehow the salt rim tasted bright, which was strange. I didn't get any citrus or body from any part of the glass. This part of Austin is a bit sketchier than the more commercial parts of South Congress. I walked past all the live music venues on 6th Street to get there, dodging more than one barker who wanted to lure me inside. I also did way more traffic avoidance, as a pedestrian, than in other parts of the city. I wouldn't have come to Las Perlas if it didn't have strong recommendations. It's pretty dark inside the bar, but the area by the outdoor taco stand is an interior courtyard, which is well lit during the day. Was visiting Austin for work and with my employees looking for a quick late night bite. We found Las Perlas...when we arrived it was actually pretty close to closing time, but they were super accommodating and got our orders in and we were able to enjoy some of the best damn tacos and quesadillas I've ever had. Super fresh, made to order, great tortillas and flavors. They have a great happy hour, as I landed on the Guava Margarita (they're known for their margs and claim to be the best in town - so I had to test them out!). The margarita was amazing - not too strong, and very flavorful. The quesadilla was much larger than I expected, and made fresh! I could eat two of them if I wanted. The chips and queso however wasn't that great - the flavor of the queso threw me off (reminded me like velveeta cheese), so I wasn't much of a fan. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I also tried their Espresso Martini + Billiards table in the bar behind (which I believe is called 7Grand?) Great little place with a LOT of quality Mezcal! Went on a Monday night and it was a perfect little getaway before a concert. Tried their bandera shot (a 3-part shot which represents the Mexico flag with lime juice, mezcal and their own special tomato-based mix). I don't love shots but this one was actually very fun to do! The bartender was very nice and recommended the mocktail from the whiskey bar next door (but made it in-house for me). A very cool setup where it's 3 specialty bars that share a tab system & a back patio! That's where the tacos were made fresh on the griddle. Tacos were very good, with the chicken probably being my favorite (I hear the carnitas is a bit too sweet), and the brisket w/guac as a second fav. Wow, this was an interesting experience. I had no idea a restaurant/bar could have so much liquor and also provide access to two other bars with, again, so much liquor. The bartender was extraordinarily intelligent. We started with the bandera shot and it was a super unique experience. The cocktails were delicious and the tacos were also incredible. My only thing with the tacos is that the pork was kind of sweet. The taco stand wanted to be Paprika ATX so bad but it ultimately wasn't. They did have great guac though! I would recommend this place before it gets busy because the attention from the bartenders gets harder and harder as the night goes by. It was a great stop before a concert at Antone's. read more

If you are looking for one of the top taco spots in all of Austin, this is it. I'll start by saying, while this review is listed under Las Perlas, the tacos are actually made by Asador. A few buddies and I have spent the last few weeks trying a variety of tacos throughout Austin to finally decide on what truly is the best taco in Austin. While we are not done with our adventure, I can confidently say, the Asador brisket taco will no doubt make it near the top. It is remarkable how much flavor they can pack into every single bite. The combination of salsas, meat, toppings, and tortilla is a true work of art. To top it all off, it sits inside an awesome bar where you can get the perfect margarita to go with your meal. While I'm not sure if they are made there, the chips were also a great addition to the meal. I will 100% be back to eat that taco (maybe every single week till I get sick of it)! read more

Great vibes and bartenders that are fantastic! Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Their menu features guava, spicy and regular margaritas as well as a Paloma, or just ask for what tequila drink you like! There is happy on most days between a certain time where you can get draft margaritas or Paloma's at a discount, and they do not disappoint. The micheladas they make are delicious as well. Tacos outside from Asador pair perfectly with your tequila drink of choice. The quesadillas are also very yummy! Don't forget to try the hot sauce as well! Why are these tacos so fantastic?? Really recommend all the tacos - I strangely LOVED the chicken taco, even though I'm usually more of a red meat person. The cauliflower taco was really well seasoned, but it's mashed cauliflower vs. whole pieces, so keep that in mind if you're weird about textures! Really recommend the guac - great non-baby food texture, fresh fried tortilla chips. Great pre-show hang, especially if you're going to a show in the Red River district. Very unique space they have at this bar. Had a really good time at a party, DJ Milo was great, the music was so good. The space is very funky, we have rabbits painting on the wall. If I could give this place 10 stars I would!! So when you walk in there's a cool bar with GREAT happy hour deals. The guava margarita is a must - I don't remember what was on the rim but it was to die for! There's also bandera shots, which are 1 shot of lime juice, 1 shot of tequila, and 1 shot of sangrita. IT'S THE BOMB! Now, after grabbing a drink at the bar, you can walk out onto the patio (where there's another bar) and such a cool, chill vibe. You can also get Asador Tacos on the patio. AND LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THOSE TACOS! Hands down the best food I have ever had. The tortilla is amazingly homemade and so fresh. We got the carnitas, brisket, and chicken tacos. Personally, the carnitas was my favorite but they are all mouth wateringly delicious. We have dinner reservations at another place and cancelled them to go back to this place two nights in a row. I visited Las Perlas with some colleagues last week when we were staying at a nearby hotel for a conference. We had a great time: great mezcal cocktails and a good vibe. They have a nice outside area but there was a fire going which made my sweater and hair smell like smoke (yikes oops). They serve some food as well, so you hang out for a while.
