How have I not been here yet? This bar has great service, well priced drinks, bomb ass micheladas, a super clean restroom, and is connected to a whiskey bar and a rum bar. Everyone raves about the Spicy Daisy. I'm no wimp but I couldn't finish it. My mouth was on fire. I loved my miche though (although I asked for the old recipe since the new one doesn't have tomato). Awesome cool spot in downtown Austin! Mezcal has quickly become my drink of choice and this place is a great place to try some good mezcal cocktails. Gorgeous interior and great patio area with plenty of seats and tables. Everyone enjoyed their drinks, and the bartender was excellent. We had a great time and would come back again with friends. Went here on a whim because I was craving quesadillas and this place did not disappoint! I got there right as the kitchen was accepting it's last order of the night and I got so lucky. My friend got the tacos, and I got a quesadilla and a couple margaritas. The tortillas are incredible and the quesadilla had so much flavor! We went during the week, so we had the back patio area mostly to ourselves and it was a great atmosphere with some twinkle lights and plenty of seating. I will mention though - Las Perlas is located right near 6th street and Barbarella's so if you're looking for a quiet outdoor atmosphere, you won't find it here even during the week. When you first walk in you're transported to this mezcal type bar with large booths, bar seating, and good happy hour drink deals. What a gem! We were looking for a place with some tacos and saw this on Yelp. We were confused at first as the place you walk into doesn't have food, only drinks. They have happy hour all nights from 3-8pm which was a nice find. The bar tender told us that the food was located in the back garden area. So we found this little food stand tucked away and got some amazing tacos! The tortilla was fried to perfection, crisp, butter, and soft. These tacos are bomb! A little hard to find, they actually had a sign on the door to say "Yes, we are open!" First you walk into a dark bar to grab your drink - the Michelada during happy hour is only $5 and so refreshing for a hot Austin day! Then you walk to the back for the delicious tacos. I got 2 tacos - chicken and carnitas and shared a quesadilla with my friend. The chicken taco was my favorite. Beware, they are spicy! The chips and guac are also a must! Their tortilla chips had this amazing seasoning and were thick, my favorite. The tortillas on the tacos are also fried to perfection. Had a grand time at Las Perlas when I was in Austin a couple of months ago. Stopped in for a couple of drinks before a show nearby at Stubb's (sad I'd already eaten because the reviews say the tacos are bomb here). Sat at the bar and was mesmerized by athe display of the mezcals offered and was also happily greeted by the tender, Leslie (sp?). Leslie was awesome and so knowledgeable about her mezcals. After the obligatory paloma on tap, Leslie was able to put together a gorgeous mezcal tasting for me to highlight a some different types (smoky, funky, "plain," etc.). Will most def come back to visit this bar next time I'm in Austin. [and wishing Leslie utmost success in her Mexican adventures this summer]. As others have mentioned, Las Perlas shares a back courtyard with Seven Grand, so you can still hang with your whiskey loving friends also. read more

I had something that was on happy hour and I was happy with the price and the quality of the drink. We sat in the outside patio right next to the guy who can make you a little taco or quesadilla. I had a mushroom taco and it was fabulous! I would have gotten three of them, but we were going to try out some other spots. I quite enjoyed the concept of this bar. From the get-go, everything was cool: the stone walls and mood lighting, the abundant selection of mezcales, the friendly bartenders, and the yummy taco offerings in the back, in addition to the patio. It's an excellent place to take large groups of people, close to many food trucks too, and they let you bring in food from other places in case you're not feeling the tacos. But the best thing?? You can order a whole Corona Familiar (about 2.5 pints? PLENTY to keep you going for a while) for only $13. This was the best selling point for me and I wonder why other places don't do the same. There was a spicy drink (it had cucumbers and jalapeños) that was refreshing, original and delicious. I had a Mezcal Pura Vida Mule as well and hmm, I may opt for something else next time, but I am a Mezcal neophyte so maybe that flavor threw me off. As for the tacos, I had the brisket ones and I though they were tasty. I have had better tacos but these were good, though definitely pricey. Good times, for sure. read more

Very unique find. The fiancee is very much into mezcal and was stoked to find this whole bar dedicated to serving up unique mezcal drinks. The bartenders really know their stuff - they were able to customize drinks or make recommendations based on how he described his tastes and preferences and the two drinks he ordered were both on the spot. I ended up getting a Mexican Mule for myself (I know, not the most PC name), but very delicious. They also have a food vendor out back in the patio where you can order bites to eat. Friday night in Austin and I was in the area so stopped by Las Perlas for a taco and margarita For my margarita I went with the Casa Noble which is a frozen margarita. The appearance is like that of shaved ice. This is a drink that may be impossible to chug due to the thick icey consistency. Furthermore, the tequila is strong in this. It tastes like a concentrated margarita. Salty, limey. Not a refreshing drink unfortunately, but worth a try. More importantly, I am pleased to report that the taco is one of the best I had during my eatcation. I was a little confused on how/where to order the taco. There is an outiside area with a grill towards the back of the bar where you place your order. It seems the grill is operated by Asador, who has partnered with Las Perlas. So I guess they might technically be two separate entities?? I'm not sure. Anyway, I went with a carnitas taco on a flour tortilla. This is a great taco. The meat is fatty, savory as hell and very moist and smothered in sauce. The tortilla has a perfect balance of crispy outer layer with soft inner layers. Despite the juicy meat the tortilla hold form, which is praiseworthy. Chopped onion and herbs at nuance in texture and taste. I highly recommend Las Perlas/Asador for their tacos. read more

Do not come here. We walked 6 blocks in 100 heat. We were there for food only. I asked the bartender where to order and he demanded I hand him my water bottle. I am Disabled. I was overheated, red in the face and clearly distressed. He didn't care after I told him I was close to heat stroke. You need to train your employees better and tell them to find some compassion because that was absurd. Do not support this business that discriminates against disabled people. read more

I came to try Seven Grand and little did I know this cool Mezcal bar was right next door and has the same owners. Like Seven Grand, Las Perlas is an LA transplant and a very welcomed quality addition to the craft cocktail scene in Austin. For libations, I went with their Oaxacan Negroni and also tasted their Spicy Rose. I'm a big Mezcal fan, but in cocktails, it can often be too dominate and mute out the other ingredients. I've found that it really takes someone who knows what they're doing to make a mezcal cocktail where you can taste everything that's going on. Flip, our bartender, is such a person and made us some really tasty cocktails. Flip, our drinks, the rest of the staff, the fun yet somewhat chic vibe all made for a fantastic first visit.
