I came to try Seven Grand and little did I know this cool Mezcal bar was right next door and has the same owners. Like Seven Grand, Las Perlas is an LA transplant and a very welcomed quality addition to the craft cocktail scene in Austin. For libations, I went with their Oaxacan Negroni and also tasted their Spicy Rose. I'm a big Mezcal fan, but in cocktails, it can often be too dominate and mute out the other ingredients. I've found that it really takes someone who knows what they're doing to make a mezcal cocktail where you can taste everything that's going on. Flip, our bartender, is such a person and made us some really tasty cocktails. Flip, our drinks, the rest of the staff, the fun yet somewhat chic vibe all made for a fantastic first visit. Ermagarg. I'm almost tempted not to write this review because I don't want this place to get too crowded. Here's the setup: there is a small counter on a charming back patio, selling *the best* tacos in Austin, and that is saying a lot. Ridiculously good homemade tortillas, and incredibly flavorful, not-dry-at-all chicken, carnitas, and brisket. SO. FLIPPING. GOOD. And, if that was not enough, you can take your tacos into one of three bars - a mezcaleria, a kick-butt whiskey bar, or a gourmet rum bar. They each have different vibes, but they are all very hip, and the bartenders I've talked to are really knowledgeable about their specific liquor type. I'm a bourbon girl, and the whiskey bar (called Seven Grand) has some pretty hard-to-find pours at fair prices - not cheap, but fair. It's kind of like a food truck setup for different types of liquor, so everyone can get what they want. read more

I've been to the LA Las perlas and the one in Austin is nicer and the food might be better too! What I love about this location is the little backyard in the back with the lights. It really feels like you are in somebody's backyard in Mexico except all the tall buildings and the downtown Austin skyline. Happy hour is from 5-8pm. The house margaritas were okay, but the mezcal cocktails were quite stiff. The main star are the brisket tacos! The tortillas are thin and crispy. If I had to compare the tortilla to something it's kind of like the wrap on an Asian scallion pankcake. The bar is located in downtown= difficult to find "free" parking- tons of lots and paid street parking around the area. I also love how you can enter through 7th grand's backdoor through Las perlas' yard. read more

Had tickets to a show at Paramount and this was the perfect spot for pre-show drinks and tacos. We found free street parking between the two locations which was awesome. It was super low-key at 6:30ish. We grabbed happy hour (4-8pm) draft margaritas and palomas for $7 each. They were both... okay. Not the best but when you sip them along with your awesome tacos from the the taco stand on the patio, they somehow taste oh-so-much better! Those tacos - so good! The tortillas are bubbly and soft and the fillings were delish. Our favorite was the carnitas, followed by the chorizo. The chicken taco didn't thrill me but it was tasty enough. A friend and I had just checked out Jurassic quest at the convention center and wanted to find some food within walking distance. This place showed up with good reviews, but I didn't realize the food was technically separate (Asado tacos). It was Very small inside, but intimate. The bartender showed us the taco stand out back, rum bar on the patio, and America bar on the other side. We got tacos from the stand and ate them at las perlas because the ambiance was super cute. The setting was laid back and cool, dim and romantic. My friend got the watermelon margarita and said it hit the spot. I walked over to the American bar (seven grand) to get a beer since I'm not a tequila/mezcal gal. It was pretty empty at 9pm on a Friday night, but more people were starting to show up as we left. I Would certainly return to seven grand because they had pool tables and a cool vibe too. The tacos were terrible lol there's no other way to put that, so I would eat elsewhere. read more

Always loved this place, especially for the incredible tacos served out back by Asador. Been coming since 2018, and I always thought the prices were fair. Tonight I ordered a spicy mezcal margarita, verbatim. They assigned their own moniker to it (a Spiced Daisy!), and charged me $3 just for substituting Mezcal for tequila. $18 for a drink one block from Dirty 6th. Absurd. It was made well, I guess, but there was nothing memorable or exceptional about it. A new twist on deceptive marketing that has zero additional value. Plenty of open space with decent seating inside and out. once you go outside you will be greeted with a fresh aroma of tacos or something else delish. A few weeks after a trip to Mexico City, my friend and I were going through Mezcal withdrawals and decided to come in for a few drinks, and I really loved it! The space itself is really beautiful and intimate, after poking around we sat at the bar. The bartenders were great, one in particular and I'm kicking myself for not remembering his name but we'll attest that to the strength of the margaritas. They were on top of it, made a great cocktail, and very personable and entertaining. For the first round I ordered the Poblano Escobar, which was DELISH. The sweet and spice balance was perfect, and the smoky and spicy salt rim was a winner. I didn't find it to be spicy, more of the taste from the poblano than the heat but I do love spicy food.. my friend loved it too and agreed it wasn't hot. Second time around I went with the Las Perlas Margarita and really enjoyed it, the sweet, sour and tequila was all in perfect balance and I was over the moon to have a margarita without 'sweet and sour' or synthetic taste. Next time I'm going to try some more of their mezcals, they had a great selection (obviously). They have lots of non smoky or spicy options if mezcal isn't your jam, but I definitely recommend stopping by and I will certainly be back! read more

Las Perlas is one of the better bars i have come across recently. The vibe and aestechics of the place are top notch. The way they display their mezcal is intriguing and engaging. The mezcal program here is astounding and I couldn't be happier with the knowledge that the staff has as well. The sister whiskey bar (7 grand) next door and the rum bar, caña, (limited hours compared to the other two,) has the same presentation and knowledge and as a "tourist" I experienced a lot of excellent cocktails here. We stopped in here during happy hour to check out the offerings. We checked the menu online and our entire group was pretty excited to check it out. We walked in at 7:45 and it was pretty quiet, only a few people at the bar. My friend and I began to look at the menu and waited for the waitress so we could put in our drink orders. However, she was the only one working the bar despite two other employees milling about. One was messing around with a light shining on some trinkets, despite the bartender being obviously swamped with orders and bills. Finally the bartender walked over and my buddy ordered the happy hour Paloma. Then he was greeted rudely by the bartender that happy hour was over, since it was 8:03 and happy hour ended at 8. My buddy reminded her that he has been waiting for 15 minutes and she agreed to honor the deal. It then took another 20 minutes for us to get our drinks since the bartender was still without help. Since no one was helping her she was handling cash while working the bar with no hand washing in between. Going from cash to limes to cash to rosemary. Very unhygienic. All in all, the drinks were very good. However, we felt like we were a bother to the bar and that they really didn't care if we came or went. Also, the light never got fixed despite the guy working on it the entire time we were there as the bar drowned in patrons. read more

I think I may have died and gone to heaven. This bar is my new go to in downtown. The have a huge selection of Mezcal and Tequila (few other spirits too, if thats what you like), Mexican beers that you can buy solo or as a bucket and amazing cocktails. I'm a sucker for a good ol margarita, and you'd be surprised how hard it is to find one that is good. Their jukebox is fun and eclectic and the art and taxidermy really add to the bar. All the Mezcal bars in Austin are small, dark and intimate, this one is bigger, more bright and makes me feel like I want to party. Viva la Oaxaca! P.S. Its also next door, literally,they share the same patio as Seven Grand Whiskey Bar, so if you're with other people, there should definitely be something for everyone. read more

Relatively new to me, Las Perlas has become one of my go-tos to escape the rat race of Austin. While all of the bartenders are amazing, Flip has become a great source of knowledge and has done an amazing job introducing me to the varied varietals of agave. I walked in, and thought, "not much"...got a regular margarita. Husband and I ordered a smoked brisket each, his on a flour tortilla, mine on corn chips (gluten sensitivity). Sat outside, open air casual courtyard, listened to music, and started to relax. The casual place grew on me. When we got the food, it was so tasty!!
