A great casual spot to stop by for a burrito craving in Austin! Diego at register really helped us select which burrito we should choose and recommended some hot sauce selections for us. They have different variety of hot sauces and they were all equally yummy with various degree of spiciness. The burrito was incredibly filling and delicious. So much so that my boyfriend was able to finish his whole burrito and one sitting, but I was only able to finish half. Yummyyy

This is a great taco spot. This brick and mortar location is right off Riverside. Super cute spot with vibrant decorations, friendly staff and delicious food! I really enjoyed the fish tacos.

I was craving Mexican food after landing in Austin and decided to try Pueblo Viejo. I ordered the Barbacoa and al pastor burrito. Both tasted delicious, the burritos had the same filling consisting of beans, cheese, guac, sour cream; and the tortilla itself was heated and toasted which gave a good texture and crisp. I recommend the barbacoa which was more tender and had more flavor than the al pastor. Although not the most authentic or unique menu item, it tasted pretty healthy and clean and I enjoyed it. I would come back to try their more unique tacos. Service was also pretty quick.

Absolutely delicious! Had to order 2 more tacos after this! Definitely try the horchata! We'll be back next time we visit Austin.

(From August 2024) Somewhere, I read this was a must-visit for breakfast tacos. As I was departing Austin for Dallas in mid-August, the YELP search led me here in the morning. As soon as I stepped through the door, the smell of warm tortillas, sauteed eggs, and the sizzling chorizo smacked me in the face and I knew I was gonna enjoy the tacos I ordered. For the order, I went with the taco bueno (egg, potato, chorizo & cheese) and the taco margarita (egg, mushrooms, onion, spinach). The order came out quick with some green salsa and napkins. Each bite was a hit and reminded me why breakfast tacos is a heaven-sent in Texas. The tortillas were soft on the inside and the fillings were seasoned perfectly. Some of the best breakfast tacos I've found. Austin is lucky to have a gem like this!

First time I tried Pueblo Viejo taco (steak with vegetables) was in a food truck at Meanwhile Brewing. When I found out they had a brick & mortar near Lady Bird Lake (Riverside) my heart was fulfilled.I could go for a run then walk over to enjoy my REWARD tacos. Stopped by yesterday, and had a great visit. The girl at the counter had me laughing, she was friendly. The kind of service I appreciate, and makes me a loyal customer. The ambiance is nice, very clean establishment. Love it!

Picnic style outside, I wouldn't go if it's too hot but it's Texas ! The service was fast and sweet. The nachos were everything, the peppers gave it a nice kick with the chicken and beans.

Bland tough Steak Taco, cold beans, meh Rice Side, Al Pastor Taco weak marinade and missing salt
    Alexandra V.

¡Viva mediocre! Even though the waitress walked less than 20 steps from the kitchen to the table where I was seated at, the food is still arrived lukewarm. The refried beans were so stiff The steak taco was lacking salt and was tough, in part because it cooled down so quickly. I had a very little flavor and very little salt. The taco had more flavor, but some of the pineapple bits were too hard from being overcooked. Rice was basic nothing special. Guacamole didn't have much flavor either and was missing salt Of course with so many elements missing Salti reached the salt shaker, and the hole in the salt shaker are so big that a little grain of rice went straight through one of the holes. When I think about the positives, the artwork on the ceiling is original. The big planters on the table also add a nice natural colorful approach. The only thing here that was truly delicious were the tortilla chips as they were thin and crispy. Again, they needed more salt. I wish there were ways that I could have like a crystal ball to know which restaurants to visit and which ones to avoid. Don't recommend. Eater beware.

Pueblo Viejo is a warm departure from Austin's often over-the-top, overly-"fusioned," inflated Mexican food scene. ("No, I don't want Mexican-Vietnamese fusion food today! Maybe on Thursday, but today I just wanna-plate of good MEXICAN food!") Pueblo Viejo delivers. The restaurant is hidden in the corner of a strip shopping center, and you may have to cruise the parking lot a minute to find it. We visited on a Saturday evening and there was only one other party dining which raised our eyebrows, but the waitress said that they usually get busy later in the evening. I ordered the Enchilada Plate. My kid ordered a Guaca Taco. The chicken enchilada was different, but in an exceptionally good way. My daughter -- who stole several bites -- and I both agreed that there were a lotta flavors going on, one of which we noted was a slight sweetness, but not overly sweet. The pico that accompanied the enchilada was also really good -- again, with a unique and memorable flavor. I didn't try her taco as I was busy working out my own plate. The restaurant and table were clean. The waitress was attentive and friendly. The food was reasonably priced and arrived in good time and most importantly, it was hot. This is a good find My People.

This place is legit. It's kind of a hole in the wall but don't let that deter you. The tacos are so flavorful and the sauces are sooooo good. You can get your own sauces, and there is also outside seating. The service was fast and friendly. Will definitely add this to my Austin eats list.

Taco Plate (Al Pastor Taco and Chicharron Salsa Verde Taco)
    Eunice K.

I really liked Pueblo Viejo! The price wasn't too high, and I was very full after eating, so the price was worth it! I ordered the taco plate with al pastor and chicharron salsa verde tacos. The chicharron was so good! I can eat it all day. The pork rinds were crispy, chewy, and very flavorful. But I understand if pork rinds don't sound appetizing (more for me to eat heh). The service was good and relatively quick. The restaurant was clean, had music playing, and I didn't use the restroom, but I hope it's clean. I forgot to take a picture before eating, so there's a bite into one of my tacos .

Potato, egg, bacon, cheese taco and horchata!

Are there seatings (places to sit and eat)?

Yes, in nice weather there are outdoor picnic tables. They also have tables set up inside when there isn't a show going on at the north door.

Are there gluten free options? I'm highly allergic to gluten. Thanks!

I believe they are gluten free if you avoid the flour tortillas. My husband has gluten sensitivity and we've always ordered our tacos with corn tortillas. He has no issues with their food.

Do you have rice? It's not listed on your menu as a side.

They DO have rice now!! It's not on anything but I always get it or add it!!! It's good!

We absolutely recommend coming here and getting fajitas or enchiladas or Barbacoa quesadillas maybe all of the above if you bring enough people because it's all delicious! It's an awesome establishment to bring families kids Little League teams, office meetings whatever you want you won't disappoint anybody you bring. No matter who we have gotten as far as the wait staff they have all been extremely friendly, kind and helpful when it came to choosing something on the menu--everybody here has a wonderful and warm personality. They really have put together a home run of a restaurant and I hope that they stay around for a long time. Last, but not least the drinks are outstanding, and everything is very competitively and fairly priced. If you haven't tried it and are worried about it being packed come during the weekday at lunch.

Went on Sunday after Easter service because we were craving something a friend brought us during a…read morerecent meal train but felt it a bit lacking. First, the menu needs a rewrite for content and clarity. For example, buying fajitas doesn't list guacamole and based on size, single, for two and family you get more sides of rice or beans. There's no definition of how much actual meat you get and our server couldn't provide that information beyond a rough estimate. Second, the fajitas we got of family size and for two portions for 7 were not consistently cooked. We asked for medium rare and got about 25% at that with the ones in the center at a more well done. Again, the multiple tiny sides were more obnoxious than anything as it's legit beans and rice unless you want to upcharge. The cilantro lime rice tastes like nothing so skip that and go for abuelita rice which has a hint of flavor. Overall, the butter/gravy that go on the fajitas is the real winner but again a menu where you overbuy and misunderstand (that doesn't even list extras like guacamole or a simple small queso) was beyond frustrating. I would stick to them for one to possibly get a better cook.

I've driven by El Alma many times being in the Austin area, but I never went until last Thursday, and after surviving a brief monsoon, I was glad to get a few drinks and eat some good TexMex with my large party just before a wedding. The best way to describe El Alma is that it is TexMex that is Austinified. Everything feels a little more unique and special than your classic TexMex options. I started off with a Mezcal Margarita that put a little hair on my chest and got me going. My group ordered two of their Nachitos, which were these nice nachos. For my main entrée, I got 3 Al Pastor tacos on corn with a side of their rice and beans. Their pastor was served with pineapples, onions, and cilantro with limes on the side. They were great and I immediately crushed them all. I thought their rice and beans were pretty good as well and a step above the typical TexMex rice and beans. The server was pretty attentive throughout our whole visit, and I honestly have no complaints about what they had to offer. Pricing on the meal and drinks was pretty standard for Austin, and I didn't think anything really took me out of the experience. On top of that, for being in Barton Springs, there is quite a bit of parking. I would love to come back at some point in the future and hang out on their rooftop bar because that seems like a lot of fun. Shoutout to El Alma for being a TexMex oasis saving me from the MoPac traffic. RIYL: TexMex, but better than your average

The venue itself has a lively, open feel with an urban backyard vibe and plenty of space to move around, mingle, and actually take in the installation without feeling crowded. What stood out most was how well the space complemented the event. The layout made it easy to engage with the installation while still enjoying the social vibe. They had space for working virtually as well as displays to test some of the technology. There's a nice balance between indoor comfort and that signature rooftop-style setting, which gives it a relaxed but elevated feel. The staff was friendly and kept things running smoothly, and the overall setup felt thoughtfully organized. Whether you were there to focus on the installation or just take it in casually, the environment supported both. The line was somewhat long to get into the event as it was at capacity and could only allow more people as people were leaving the event. I was given a drink ticket and got to try the Patio Pounder with ilegal mezcal, primo aperitivo, tropical citrus, coconut, grapefruit soda.
