I ordered 2 steak tacos and horchata, both very delicious. The horchata is milky and sweet but not crazy sweet, and topped off with cinnamon. The steak tacos came out pretty hot, fresh from the grill. I got them on corn tortillas and I'm glad I did: idk if they make them in house but somebody in some house is making these because they definitely aren't store bought, and if they are I want to know where! I tried the orange habanero and creamy serrano salsas. The habanero was spicy off the bat, while the serrano had more of a lingering burn. Both paired well with the steak. They have a little bar, too, though I did not imbibe this time. Seems like they have a decent selection of agave spirits, and even Campari behind the bar (iykyk). I personally don't eat breakfast tacos usually, but the breakfast tacos here are delicious. Out on a whim, happen to drive by and saw this place. Decided to come in and the cashier greeted us and was really nice and patient because of questions with the menu. The Taco Bueno is what I had ordered and requested no potato. Sat down and after a few seconds, chips & salsa was delivered. Then after a few minutes, the food came. Quick service for sure and the food, AMAZING. Pueblo Viejo is a small unassuming restaurant in a strip mall, that nonetheless delivers serious flavor and quality. (And it's an easy stop on the way to downtown from the airport, by the way.) We dropped in for lunch and each got a couple of tacos. I'd say 2 is a good amount for a decent lunch unless you're a pretty big eater--in that case get a third or a side. I had a barbacoa and a veggie taco. The barbacoa lamb was perfectly tender and juicy, with the fresh herbs setting off the richness. The veggie taco was less flavorful, but let me feel like I was eating a reasonably balanced lunch. I went with corn tortillas as the cashier said they were made in house, and I think that was the right move. Sturdy and great corn taste that enhanced the entire experience. My husband's fish and al pastor tacos were great as well, and also a decent size. Do NOT miss the house-made horchata on a hot day. I was craving Mexican food after landing in Austin and decided to try Pueblo Viejo. I ordered the Barbacoa and al pastor burrito. Both tasted delicious, the burritos had the same filling consisting of beans, cheese, guac, sour cream; and the tortilla itself was heated and toasted which gave a good texture and crisp. I recommend the barbacoa which was more tender and had more flavor than the al pastor. Although not the most authentic or unique menu item, it tasted pretty healthy and clean and I enjoyed it. Inside, the space is surprisingly charming--thick wood tables give everything a sturdy, rustic feel, painted ceilings with colorful creatures add personality, and live plants on the tables bring a fresh touch. It's clean, casual, and welcoming, with friendly staff who keep service quick and attentive. Food-wise, the lamb birria is my personal favorite--tender, rich, and perfect for dipping. The aguas frescas are always refreshing, and the campechano tacos pack a flavorful punch with juicy meats, cilantro, onion, and creamy salsa. Everything arrives hot and hearty, leaving you more than satisfied. Pueblo Viejo balances hidden gem vibes with neighborhood comfort, and it's a spot I gladly return to again and again. (From August 2024) Somewhere, I read this was a must-visit for breakfast tacos. As I was departing Austin for Dallas in mid-August, the YELP search led me here in the morning. As soon as I stepped through the door, the smell of warm tortillas, sauteed eggs, and the sizzling chorizo smacked me in the face and I knew I was gonna enjoy the tacos I ordered. For the order, I went with the taco bueno (egg, potato, chorizo & cheese) and the taco margarita (egg, mushrooms, onion, spinach). The order came out quick with some green salsa and napkins. Each bite was a hit and reminded me why breakfast tacos is a heaven-sent in Texas. The tortillas were soft on the inside and the fillings were seasoned perfectly. When I realized there was no option to cancel online, I called right away. Unfortunately, I was told that without a manager present, the order couldn't be canceled. Since I'm located far north, there was no way for me to get to Riverside in time to pick it up. This was a frustrating experience and a missed opportunity to resolve a simple issue. ¡Viva mediocre! Even though the waitress walked less than 20 steps from the kitchen to the table where I was seated at, the food is still arrived lukewarm. The refried beans were so stiff The steak taco was lacking salt and was tough, in part because it cooled down so quickly. I had a very little flavor and very little salt. The taco had more flavor, but some of the pineapple bits were too hard from being overcooked. Rice was basic nothing special. Guacamole didn't have much flavor either and was missing salt Of course with so many elements missing Salti reached the salt shaker, and the hole in the salt shaker are so big that a little grain of rice went straight through one of the holes. When I think about the positives, the artwork on the ceiling is original. The big planters on the table also add a nice natural colorful approach. The only thing here that was truly delicious were the tortilla chips as they were thin and crispy. Again, they needed more salt. I wish there were ways that I could have like a crystal ball to know which restaurants to visit and which ones to avoid. Don't recommend. Eater beware. read more

The restaurant is hidden in the corner of a strip shopping center, and you may have to cruise the parking lot a minute to find it. We visited on a Saturday evening and there was only one other party dining which raised our eyebrows, but the waitress said that they usually get busy later in the evening. I ordered the Enchilada Plate. My kid ordered a Guaca Taco. The chicken enchilada was different, but in an exceptionally good way. My daughter -- who stole several bites -- and I both agreed that there were a lotta flavors going on, one of which we noted was a slight sweetness, but not overly sweet. The pico that accompanied the enchilada was also really good -- again, with a unique and memorable flavor. I didn't try her taco as I was busy working out my own plate. They had several different types of sauces and they were all top-notch. We enjoyed every single taco. We ate and will definitely be back soon. The customer service was great as well. We found this place on a whim and it was delicious! We got a bunch of steak and Al pastor tacos to share, and both were great but the al pastor tacos really hit the spot. Plus we happened to be there on Taco Tuesday, where it was BOGO for al pastor tacos. It tastes different from LA style tacos, which is literally just meat with tortilla. These have more going on; for examples the al pastor tacos have sliced bits of pineapple. We also got a steak quesadilla plate and a steak burrito, both of which were delicious. The salsa that came with the chips was also really good, with a bit of a kick. Service was soo friendly. I actually ordered our initial food, and then went back again to order 4 more al pastor tacos. I was living in East Riverside when this Pueblo Viejo location first opened, and I remember coming here while they were soft opening, had no traffic, were giving out free beers to attract customers, and had a whopping 4 total reviews on Yelp. On our most recent visit, we ordered a ton of our favorite tacos, like the Taco Nes, the fish taco, Taco Don Chago, and Taco Mi Madre. Everything was delicious and exactly how we remembered it. Pueblo Viejo has great indoor and outdoor seating, a beer fridge, self-serve salsa bar, and a good selection of drinks. I have been here a couple of times. The food here is really good and unique compared to one of my favorite other restaurants I go to while I am at work on the south of Austin. This place is a hidden gem right of east Riverside drive. It's located kind of behind Popeyes. You will definitely miss it if you're not looking for or using Google maps. I had a terrible experience at Pueblo Viejo. The tacos and gordita we ordered were ridiculously tiny, and they didn't even include the salsa (that we paid for) with the order. When I called at 4 p.m. on 12/14/24 to ask about a refund because $30 for tortilllas with a small side of meat and lettuce is bonkers, the young girl who answered the phone was incredibly rude. She literally yelled, "I don't know what you want me to do!" before hanging up on me. I tried calling back multiple times, but she refused to answer. I eventually called from my partner's phone, and someone else picked up and was still no help and refused to say the girls name so I could talk with a manager about her--Eli, who said he was a cook. Even then, the young girl outright refused to speak with me. This level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable. Not only was the food disappointing, but the customer service was the worst I've ever experienced. I won't be coming back & I will be getting a refund through uber eats. read more

Went to this food truck in the cosmic coffee food truck area. I got the chilaquiles, which were tasty I wish they had asked me how I wanted my egg. It was a little to over easy for me. If I had known I would have asked for no coquita but that's a personal preference. I appreciated the fresh papas but do wish they were smaller pieces. Possibly would have helped flavor wise possibly more sauce per bite. Overall very tasty chips stayed nice and crunchy throughout. Atmosphere is great!! It's very simple, a little spicy from the chorizo, and the beans and potatoes help keep the taco fillings glued to the tortilla. $8.20 Migas Plate - beans, potatoes, cheesy egg scramble with tortilla chips: My friend ordered this because she's not a big fan of tacos, and more into healthy food, but it still has cheese and fried tortilla chips.
