I had the OG chicken slider and it exceeded my expectations by a mile! It was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The slaw and sauce they put on it...man, I could eat this all day. I'm craving it as I'm writing this The bun was nice and soft like good ol southern comfort bread. The fries with special sauce were indeed special. I don't drink anymore so I know it didn't just taste this good because I was drunk I am definitely going to swing by again and I saw they were on door dash also they're open late so perfect for the late night craving also. Food truck location: Whisler's lot on East 6th. Open: 7 days a week. Mon-Fri 4 pm-1:30 am. Sat & Sun 2 pm-1:30 am. Menu offerings (my faves but obviously more stuff available): Thai chicken sandwich (sweet chili sauce, basil, Serranos, onion, etc.). Chicken strips & fries. Smashburger. Tiger fries. Food descriptions: OMFries, the Tiger fries! Have got to be my favorite item. Loaded fries with an egg (sunny side), queso, pickles, bbq sauce, onion, Serranos and more. The Thai chicken sandwich blows my mind with epic seasoning, chicken cooked to perfection, all on a perfectly textured bun. The chicken strips are cooked to a glorious golden brown housing the juiciest meat inside. Everything pairs nicely with any and all cocktails offered at Whisler's. read more

Rating 3.8/5 [dine in] We were at Whisler's and discovered that the Golden Tiger truck was parked on their outdoor patio. They offered their version of a Happy Meal, available only on Wednesdays from 4-7 PM. I got the Cub Burger for $2.99 and shared it with my husband. It was ready immediately after I paid, which was impressive. The burger is simple--just cheese and pickles--but it tastes so much better than McDonald's, especially for the price. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area during that time. read more

We had a large group of 12 for an early dinner around 6:30 on a Tuesday. The only employee working warned us that she was by herself and it may take 20 minutes or more for our order. We were committed since it was highly recommended by my Son who lives near by. When the food came out it looked great and tasted the same. A few of us had burgers that were not as hot as we would have preferred. That is the reason for only 4 stars. The fries were great and the place is very cool. Next time we go back it will be with a smaller group so that we get the great food hot and fresh. Great place for burgers. read more

Hard to handle those serranos (they are spicy) so I ended up picking them off of my burgers and fries. The burger had some of the best burger meat I've had in a long time. Really, really good smash burger. The fries were also delicious. Had trouble finding parking nearby but the food only took 10-15 minutes to prepare. read more

Golden tiger is delicious and one of my go to burger spots/ food trucks. However, be ready to spend a pretty penny anytime you stop by. The chicken strips & burger are my favorite. The tofu meal is also delicious, and the special sauce is to die for. Chicken strips I believe run you between $16-22, burgers around $15. I highly recommend this place, but again, just be ready to spend a few bucks. read more

Golden Tiger is a fantastic option for a smash burger or chicken sandwich from a food truck while hanging out at Whistler's! I'm not a drinker but I visited just to try Golden Tiger and was happy I did! FAST FACTS: * Parking - street parking available nearby but plan to walk a couple blocks if it's busy * Ordering - you can walk up and order or place your order from your phone on their website and pick it up from the counter when it's ready * Delivery - available online through Postmates * Open daily until 1:30 am * Located inside Whistler's so bring an ID to get in and you can't bring outside drinks (including water bottles) SERVICE: I visited on a Saturday night around 7:45 pm and was able to grab a table. I ordered on the app with an estimated time of 8:15 pm for my order to be ready but got the text to pick it up right at 8:00 pm. The workers at the window were friendly despite being busy! PRICING: The total was $38.97 after tax and before tip for a Golden Burger ($12), Original Chicken Sandwich ($10), and Tiger Fries ($14). The portion sizes are a little small for the price but the quality of the food was great. GOLDEN BURGER (8/10): The patties have great flavor and are the perfect thickness for a smash burger. The lettuce and onions were fresh and crispy and the pickles are delicious! The bun is a Martin's potato bun so it's soft, but does kind of fall apart. I wish there was a little more of the special sauce but thankfully the cheese helped keep it moist. I'd order this again! ORIGINAL CHICKEN SANDWICH (7/10): The chicken thigh was fried perfectly... it was crispy on the outside but juicy and tender on the inside. Just like with the burger, the veggies on it are fresh and the bun is super soft! Again, I just wish there was a little more of the special sauce... next time I'd probably order a side of extra sauce just to be safe. TIGER FRIES (6/10): These were good but there was almost too much going on... plus they get soggy SUPER fast so you have to eat them quickly. The pickled serranos added the perfect amount of heat and the chili and queso had the savory flavors covered. The pickles were tasty but I wish they were chopped up so you could get some in every bite instead of having to commit to a large pickle slice. I probably wouldn't get these again because I felt like the portion size was small for $14 but they were worth trying once. I'll definitely come back to Golden Tiger and would recommend it to others! I love that they're open late and serve quality comfort food that doesn't leave you feeling greasy and gross after eating it. read more

Came here after work with friends who wanted a quick bite before heading home. The ambience and vibe was cool and relaxing. I loved the decor in the bar area. The outside patio was set out nicely and very spacious to hang with friends or large gatherings. The food truck is outside the bar area and easy to order and receive food from. I ordered an off menu item which was the jerk chicken sandwich which was spicy but damn good! Chicken had a beautifully made crust and color to it that I started to admire this sandwich before I dug in. The bread was soft and the condiments inside definitely enhanced my appetite. The Thai chicken sandwich with that chili sauce is amazing! It had the perfect kick with a twinge if sweet. To top it off, the tiger Fries were the side of dreams. Fantastic. Came on Thursday. They had a buy one get one free burger special going on. We got the burgers, lemon pepper wings and fries. MAN, delicious juicy burgers, fresh fries seasoned perfectly, and perfectly crispy wings! SO GOOD. We killed the whole platter! The food truck is located in the back of the bar. If you didn't know where it was it might be a little hard to find. You walk through the main bar, take a right through the pool table area, out the back door by the arcade games. Tasty smash burger but I would get them at the food truck instead of delivery. You can definitely tell these were freshly ground as the texture of the ground beef is just right with a good ratio of fat. The negative is if you get it delivered is by the time you get it the fat will have rendered a bit and it will be a little dry. I had to add some ketchup to give it done moisture back- I know sacrilege in Texas. The special sauce was ok - it's not thousand island with a slightly tart aftertaste. The red onions were ok but they were chopped kind of big with a couple of bigger slices and the bits kind of gravitated to the back of the bun so I got allot of onion in the last bites. I'm not adverse to lettuce on my burger and it was a nice contrast. The buns are potato buns so nice and soft. A decent burger all around. read more

This tofu sandwich was the best I've ever had. It's hard to scratch the itch of a good chicken sandwich, but they really pulled it off! Keeping this review short and sweet. Golden Tiger was one of the few places that was open past midnight after picking up my friend from the airport, so we gave it a shot. Totally going there again! The Pros: - You order your food via QR code, which I personally prefer. - You get an ETA on your food. - The OG chicken sandwich is freaking phenomenal! This is the chicken sandwich people should be raving about, not the Popeyes one, not the OG chick-fil-a one, and definitely not the McD or Wendy's ones. It's perfectly crispy and moist, I can still imagine it. The Cons: - The Golden Burger didn't stick out in particular. I'm glad I had this first before eating the OG or else it would've paled even more in comparison. - They don't really call out when your food is ready, you have to go up and ask about it, so our food was ready for a bit before I decided to go up to the window to check on our food. - The piece of chicken in the OG sandwich could have been 'flatter', it was kinda curved so it wasn't exactly evenly sandwiched. read more

Food: 9/10: I ordered the Thai chicken sandwich. As a lover of thai food, I must say this sandwich was my style. But if I'm trying to be impartial, it's still a really good sandwich. This food truck is easily accessible from the back patio of Whisler's cocktail bar. Ordering was super easy we were able to order through the window. They start using their online ordering system once it starts to get busy. We ordered the Thai chicken sandwich, Patty melt (special of the day), loaded fries and original wings. The wings wasn't anything to brag about, pretty under seasoned in my opinion. The loaded fries I was not a big fan of because all the toppings made it soggy. The flavors tasted muddled and I was done after 3 bites. My husband really enjoyed the patty melt and was surprised at how tasty it was. He gave it a 10/10 rating! The star of the evening was their Thai fried chicken sandwich! All the Asian flavors and Thai spices really blended together with the fried chicken and everything tasted in harmony. The spice level was a 7/10 for me but k took a few peppers out to cut that spice level down. This place is so good!! The fried chicken in the sandwich is so crispy (it was slightly burned but under everything else you couldn't taste it). I ordered pickup and they were a little bit late after the pick up time but it was well worth it. The sandwich had with chicken, pickles, cabbage, some sauce (it tasted like mayo but really good). Welcome to the East Side, Golden Tiger! If you read the reviews, you'll see this place used to be inside Container Bar on Rainey, but is now inside Whistler's on the East Side. That's great for me as I live a few blocks from Whistler's. I should be mad as I enjoyed Thai-Kun and Golden Tiger took their spot, but after trying them tonight, I ain't mad at all! Mason and Jamie running the truck are super nice and they have a great menu. I got a chicken sandwich for $8 and skipped the option to add a half order of fries for $3. They tell me they're handmade, so I'll have to try them next time. I just went for the OG chicken sandwich tonight and damn it was good. Piping hot, deliciously moist chicken, not too much breading, and a great sauce. It was bigger than I expected for the price and just great. I can't wait to go back and try the Thai Chicken Sandwich. They also have a $5 mini burger which is great idea for a quick bar snack. I have a feeling I'm going to become a regular with such good food and nice people running the show. read more

This is the best chicken sandwich I have ever had, any review that you see hyping up the chicken sandwich is accurate. From the bun, to the secret sauce, to the thickness and juiciness of the chicken it was divine! Super fast and friendly service, I also ordered a side of fries and six wings in their buffalo sauce. Absolutely out of this world. I got the Thai Chicken Sandwich. It was a long wait, even though there was no line (~30 minute wait), and the service was okay. The guy at the cashier was speaking very softly and was not particularly friendly. The Thai Chicken Sandwich was just decent, it left no impression on me. For $8, you'd expect a larger piece of chicken (the inside was very thin). Also, the chicken was slightly over cooked, and the sauce was very overpowering because it was just very sweet. Overall, not too bad but I wouldn't go again. 3/5 for service and for food. read more

After hearing about this place from a few different people we decided to give it a try! The burger truck was easy to find and only had a 20 minute wait time when we arrived on Friday around 730pm. I ordered the regular burger which is two patties with lettuce, sauce, tomato, pickles.. fries were $3 extra to add to the order. Total for my burger and fries was about $17 with tax and tip. The Burger was DELICIOUS!! I love burgers and get them all of the time when I go out & this burger had so much flavor and was cooked so well. But Hoover's closed down the S.A. restaurant a few months later. No biggie. I'll just go dine at the original one in Austin. A few months later on a rainy and ugly day in Austin in March 2006 I rode the bus from downtown to here. The restaurant was huge and roomy and I got seated but had to wait a long time for a waiter and left as soon as I saw people that got seated after me got served first. A few months later I rode the bus to here and got seated and was served by a young white guy who seemed exhausted and wanted to be anywhere except work. 20 years later I found out the sad news that Hoover's last day in business would be today May 31,2026. I drove here from San Antonio and noticed how much the restaurant has changed. It got smaller inside. Maybe the 2020 pandemic had something to do with that. I got seated and waited on by a friendly black waiter and ordered an Arnold Palmer and a cup of gumbo for an appetizer which was good, hot and satisfying. For the entree I got the chicken fried steak with black eyed peas and buttered spinach. The sides were okay but the CFS was a bit tough when I cut into it. For dessert, a slice of chocolate cream pie was the perfect way to end the meal. I came here one last time last week and got here earlier than I had arrived last time. I was waited on by a Hispanic waiter who seemed friendly but I had a weird feeling he was staring at me weird whenever he left my table. For appetizer I ordered a small cornbread and 2 biscuit muffins. They no longer served the free corn muffins and sweet potato biscuits like they used to serve 20 years ago. I got the Jamaican jerk chicken and a hot sausage link with cowboy beans and coleslaw. The beans were great and the slaw was okay. The perk chicken seemed a bit dry but good and the sausage was good but not as spicy as I expected. The cornbread was good and so were the biscuit muffins that were big for just 99 cents a pop. I ordered the banana pudding for dessert and that was a good conclusion to my last meal here at Hoover's. Hoover's Cooking is an Austin original that will be greatly missed. I hope whatever restaurant that moves into this soon to be vacant space will serve good food at an affordable price and won't be like the other places on Manor that serve outrageous prices for food that is just mediocre or subpar.
