Sour Duck market is a sister restaurant to Barley swine and Odd duck restaurants. It is located on Martin Luther King Dr. near IH 35. You might think of this location as a three in one experience first you have the Coffee and Bakery Shop where you can also have meals as well. Second, you have a outdoor covered patio with a stage, which is quite large where you can have beverages and and food. Then there's a third building with a bar with additional seating where you can have food and beverages. The hubs and I went to Sour Duck Market for happy hour. We ordered they're famous Smashburgers and fries. The Smash burgers were $6 each and fries were $4 dollars respectively you can also order a double meat Smashburger for $9, which is also a reasonable price. The smash burger bun was somewhere between brioche softness and pastry bread. The meat itself was flavorful with the special sauce and pickles, which was a winning combination. The fries were dusted with some type of Cajun seasoning...perfectly executed. Our meal was quite delightful. We definitely will be returning. Service was friendly and efficient. Came during happy hour and the outside was so lively! Ordered the single patty burger and it's a great burger! I was a little worried that the two types of cheese would be too overpowering but the balance was perfect. The burger has three thick slices of pickles and a juicy, smashed patty. Not pictured, but we also ordered the fries, which were okay. Do not skip out on the ketchup! I think it's the best ketchup I've ever had. It tastes a little bit like tomato basil. I will definitely come back again to eat this burger when I'm craving.
My first time at Sour Duck Market before heading to Moody for Kacey Musgraves with a girlfriend! We split the burger and a bottle of their still rosé and everything was delicious. Not too packed to grab at seat at the bar and the bartenders were all super nice! Can't wait to bring my husband and sit outside - they have a huge patio.
Lovely patio area, nice staff and a great menu, I wanted to try one of everything. The chicken on the fried chicken hash might be the best I've ever had, so juicy and I loved the sauce. Can also recommend the turmeric mule, super tasty. I think I missed out by not getting anything from the bakery, but it's on my list for next time.
I love sour duck! Portions are huge and it's a great spot to grab a quick lunch. I came with a friend on a Monday. There's plenty of seating inside and outside (also lots of birds). You order at your seat and the servers will bring it to you. It doesn't take that long at all. I got the turkey sandwich with fries. It was very filling! I wish the sandwich was toasted though - would add more texture. Overall a great spot for lunch!
I ordered the Smoked Redfish Toast. This was surprisingly incredibly delicious and filling. It was a tad on the sour side with the dill and lemon, but I still really enjoyed the fish and texture of the toast. Be careful of the birds here. There are a lot of birds that hang around, and one swooped in and stole the bun off my friend's breakfast sandwich LOL. Our waiter was kind enough to bring her a replacement bun, so don't worry if it happens to you! There's a lot of seating too. I would definitely recommend coming on a sunny morning as the seating is essentially all outdoors. Overall, good vibes.
A very hopping, trendy, busy place! Parking is very limited so go early. They have 2 tight lots available, the rest is street parking. Outdoor patio has a smaller section that is covered with fans, remaining picnic tables throughout with umbrellas with a gravel surface. It is pet friendly. We got there at 1130ish but did not order til after 12 waiting on others. They have a smaller section bakery section indoors in one building and the bar in the other. Bartender was rude. We were informed that we could go to the bar to order drinks so when I went, she rudely commented that she was not taking any orders, we will have to order at our table. Other guests arrived so we ordered. I had the migas quiche and 3 others had the wagyu burger, with side of fries, mimosa (very small 6-8 oz glass) but light on the OJ which was perfectly poured so it kept me quiet. The food was good but disappointed while ordering in the app that other lunch items were not available, just the daily and brunch menu. Maybe that's all they offered, IDK. We drove 28 miles to try this place and am not sure it was worth the drive. If you're in the UT area, you can give it a try and you can be the judge.
Open faced summer sando was light, the oyster mushrooms sent this Sammie into sensational. Smoked half chicken, the juiciness of this bird was something I have never experienced thus far. Seasoned perfectly, with the spring salad to balance this meat dish. Now, my favorite of our meals...Peachy Italian sammie, with some goat cheese to schmear on. The focaccia was an exhibition in itself, with the softness and the thin crunch, just yum! Arugula slaw, sweet peppers, the meats....this is just a beautiful dish. Fresh ginger beer on tap? GTFOOH.....what a treat on a summer evening. So glad we chose a new place for us to dig in at, it did not disappoint. Backyard patio was just adorable, but we sat inside. Staff was exceptional and friendly, with kind and lovely smiles!
This is a cool spot for lunch or brunch! We stopped by for lunch and it was starting to get warm outside. We saw that it was pretty crowded with a long line inside the restaurant so we walked outside where they had many tables with fans. You scan a QR code to place your order so we decided on a breakfast taco for each of us as we weren't too hungry. A server brought out our food pretty quickly and we quite enjoyed the fries and egg inside the tortilla. The taco was overall pretty good though we did agree we've had better tacos before. However we found all the employees really friendly and the outside area was laid back and nice. Seemed to be a great spot for hanging out with friends or family on a relaxed weekend and they let you bring pets!
The food feels oddly simple, but SO good. I didn't realize when I was eating it, but I would crave it so hard later. Definitely a new go to with a great happy hour menu. I have to recommend the turmeric mule and amazing salads and sandwiches. It's a smaller menu so I was more prompted to order something I wouldn't normally but was happily surprised. Also love the outdoor vibes! Only thing I would change is that you order through QR code which I think is efficient for this type of restaurant but I do wish it was a little bit more interaction
My wife and I had a great time here and enjoyed their happy hour specials. You simply can't beat the deals. From 3-6 pm daily, they have $6 single burgers and $9 double burgers. Also, they had $6 Paloma's and $3 snaquiri shots. They offered other beer and cocktail specials as well. The place has nice ambiance and outdoor seating. It's definitely kid and pet friendly. They serve food and drinks quickly. The staff were nice and kind. You seat yourself and you can scan the QR code at your table to order items. They deliver everything right to you. So, it's pretty easy and effortless. I would absolutely return here again.
Did my order thru Uber Eats. Was craving a good smash burger and did not disappoint! Wow! I did remove the American cheese. So they do allow modifications on Uber Eats. The double patty burger was so large and so tasty. The Pimento cheese spread was a wonderful tasty addition. The pickles were just right. They were thick and crisp and fresh! Did order the fries as a side. They were a tad over salted but cooked very well. The spicy ketchup went well with them. A non regular ketchup is always a plus! Very impressed with how the portions were wonderfully sized. The service of the proper modifications to the burger were appreciated and spot on! Thank you!
I've been here several times and am never let down I've had many of the pastries, if I can find the photos of them in my camera roll I'll update my review. Breakfast Sammy is always so good--sausage is high quality and egg is perfectly cooked. Goat memela has been good both times Smoked turkey sandwich was pretty good, I thought it needed acid but I'm an acid freak that needs pickles on everything. Counter service or ordered from a QR code at the table and they bring it out to you. Never met with any rudeness. I usually sit outside. They have table fans for bugs and mister fans for when it's hot, heaters for when it's cold. Overall, always a good experience.

We stopped at Sour Duck Market before a concert at the Moody Center and it ended up being such a great choice. We got there during happy hour, which runs daily from 3-6, and had the burger and fries along with the open-faced summer sando. Both were amazing- the burger was so good, and the summer sando was fresh, flavorful, and a nice lighter option. We also shared a bottle of rosé, which was perfect before heading to the show. They also have a really large outdoor patio, which gives the whole place such a relaxed, casual Austin feel and makes it a great spot to hang out when the weather is nice. I also love that they have an in-house bakery and make so much from scratch. Everything we had was delicious, the atmosphere was great, and we'll definitely be back. read more
Okay, so this is my updated review for Sour Duck! I went back with some friends for book club and easily found parking in the small back lot! It was busy but I just got lucky. In the past you could show up and find a table outside! Sadly that is no longer the case there was a line wrapped around the door so there was a wait for both indoor and outdoor seating but once our names were on the list we were seated inside quickly. I ordered the happy hour burger which was $6, incredible price but I found the burger sauce to be overly sour! It needed some sweetness to balance it out. The fries were good but definitely over seasoned. The HONEY CAKE was incredible!!! Just a delicious fall day in a dessert. Cinnamon, fluffy whipped layers of cream, with crumble in top--PERFECTION. The sour dough loaf is was delicious too! Friend and I got it to go. I feel like the bread is fairly priced at $7 for a loaf. Service was much better this time around and although they were extremely busy my food and drink came out quickly. I ordered the Apple cinnamon daiquiri (tasted like an apple tini) $6 on HH! It's tiny and packs a PUNCH! I could only finish half of it but then again I'm a light weight so go try it for yourself! Sour Duck has such a cool, laid-back Austin vibe. The food feels fresh and creative without trying too hard, and everything tastes thoughtfully made. The outdoor space is perfect for hanging out, grabbing drinks, and enjoying a slow meal with friends. read more
We stopped by here on our way into Austin because the food looked good and there was room for our kids to run around after being in the car all day. It was a great choice! The food was amazing and there was plenty of space for the kids to run around. My husband and I shared the spicy chicken sandwich, the chicken salad, fries, and a cookie. The smoked chicken on the salad was delicious! The entire salad tasted very fresh! I did ask for extra dressing which I would recommend. The chicken sandwich had a little kick and it was nice and crispy. The ketchup tastes homemade and had a great flavor! (My 4 year old didn't like it) There was a giant chalkboard that my daughter enjoyed drawing on! I will definitely be back. read more

I've heard about this place being related to Odd Duck, but didn't check them out until recently! They have indoor and outdoor seating but whenever I see outdoor seating, I usually opt for that in good weather. Dog-friendly! They have WiFi for guests (password is on the napkins) and they have parking in the front and back of the market. You can order from the QR Code at the tables or head inside and get a whiff of their pastries. Water is self-serve. When ordering, you start a tab. If you forget to close out, they'll automatically charge you 20% tip. I ordered the honey cake all to myself! I probably should've shared it since it was pretty filling, but it was so delicious! Unfortunately, since I sat outside, there were a bunch of leaves and flowery stuff that kept dropping on it. Not sure if I ate some with the cake but it was still good haha! I would like to go back to try a full meal or even their happy hour. read more
I have been to this market quite a few times now, but this was my first time doing a pick up order and then deciding to drink coffee while at the location. I strongly recommend ordering an iced coffee drink while there because it does seem to be a bit bigger in size and also the customer service is incredible. I ordered the double Wagyu burger without any cheese and my order was perfectly received. The fries were limp and not cooked fully, but they were edible and had a nice seasoning on them. The Mexicano latte was the highlight and I recommend getting it with oat milk and iced. My friend got a black tea iced and it was really good. Go check out the pastries indoors and don't feel scared to order over-the-counter. read more

I believe I finally have had enough trips to Sour Duck Market to write my review. Here's my take, why just go once, come back for more of their menu. One thing I take seriously are my reviews and giving any place the opportunity to show me consistency and all around goodness. First and foremost, I will like to compliment the friendly staff. They are extremely friendly, helpful, and everyone seems to really enjoy working there. Whether offering seating or sharing more about their menu:) That said, Sour Duck Market is a great place to come for a relaxed atmosphere and enjoyment. They have seating out back, some spots out front, and inside. I come here to study, but it's also a great spot to have a time with family and friends. The true yelp topic, however, is the food. And let's just say I'm on board with what others have said. I have tried the burgers, fries, sweets/pastries, and of course the drinks. My favorite of all these is a brisket sandwich with their fries! The brisket itself has an amazing sauce which I heard is made in house. This sauce is also used on the burgers and if you order either with their amazingly seasoned fries you won't be disappointed! As for drinks, I loved the Mexicano latte, that's my personal favorite. The spices and the espresso is well balanced and is my go to drink. That said, it is my favorite. They also have a caramel latte, but it is on the sweeter side. It's good, but sweeter than my liking. As for any pastries you get, I tried some of their fan favorite which include the honey cake and wow! As a baker myself, I quite enjoyed this cake since it was moist and the frosting itself was the perfect consistency and texture. It was also not too sweet and not overly powerful, but added what it needed to the cake. Anyways, I come here often, and would recommend to those looking for a sweet spot to enjoy with family. It's by the UT Austin baseball field, so if you're coming for game day you should stop by and enjoy their offerings. read more
A relaxing restaurant to enjoy a small meal or have a coffee or beer! Or all three...find an open table, sit (or stand) and scan the QR code, review the menu and choose your temptation. A server will be with you shortly to bring you your order...pretty simple! There is lots of seating both indoors and outdoors. The music was Country Western providing great vibes! Our server was polite and available if you needed them. I had the double waygu cheeseburger with fries and a cup of drip coffee. The burger was very nice and the fries were cooked well. For a restaurant like Sour Duck, I wish I had 10+ friends willing to eat out with me so that we can try more of the menu (in particular the pastries here!) It's not the usual style/ambiance for our family, but I felt "at home" in the social environment. After a large family left the table behind us, noise level got better. It's so cute to see babies and dogs enjoying the energy as well! I got the honey cake to share, as well as the fried chicken hash for my entree. Both were great. Portions were surprisingly large -- the style of cooking definitely reminds me of Odd Duck. I haven't been to Barley & Swine yet though. Water is self served, as are the takeout containers and extra cutlery. Parking is scary but we made it work in front of one of the stop signs at a street behind the restaurant. read more
TL;DR: I went at happy hour and indeed was quite happy with everything! $6 burger, $6 drinks, good vibes. Will come back. Food: I went during happy hour, and I ordered a smash burger ($6), a paloma ($6), and an aperol spritz ($8). The burger is nothing extraordinary (just a patty and cheese), but it has a good flavor to it and is not greasy. I would totally order the paloma again: it has a nice subtle grapefruit flavor to it. Aperol spritz is a classic, but I would rather order another paloma! Service: You just scan a QR code to order, and you can open/close a tab easily. Love that it accepts Apple pay. Food came like 15 minutes before my drinks did, so there is definitely a bit of wait with drinks. Ambiance: I love the vibe out here -- it is essentially just a ton of benches with umbrellas to vibe at. Tried brunch at Sour Duck Market recently. It's self-seating and you order through your phone, so service is pretty minimal overall. I went with the smoked brisket chilaquiles. The chilaquiles themselves and the egg were solid, but the brisket was extremely dry, very lean and chewy, which was disappointing and kind of took over the dish. Other dishes at the table seemed to be better received, so it might just be a matter of ordering differently next time. I'd be open to giving brunch another shot, just with a different entrée. read more
((((WOW)))) The best breakfast sandwich I have ever had so far!! Freshly made bun(so airy), delicious avocado sauce, and generous sausage slice. All the veggies added, made a perfect combination of flavors. The outdoor seating added to my wonderful experience here. My cappuccino was also a great compliment to my meal. Purchased a sour dough bread as a souvenir to take back home! Now I'm back home with my sour dough bread, & the first bite I took of a slice brought back memories of the delicious sour dough bread I had in Ireland!! That's how good their bread is. If you are from out of town & a connoisseur in breads, you won't be disappointed visiting their restaurant. First time at Sour Duck Market, and it was such a great stop before our dinner plans! We came in for a light bite and some coffee, and it ended up being the perfect choice. I ordered a salted caramel decaf latte with almond milk, and my wife had a mocha with oat milk -- both were delicious, cozy, and beautifully crafted. For food, we shared a vegetarian sandwich on focaccia (mushroom Philly-style -- I forgot the exact name), but wow, it was amazing! The pickled onions, flavorful veggies, mushrooms, and that subtle hint of mustard all came together perfectly. We finished with the spiced potato cake, recommended by the staff, and it did not disappoint. It paired so well with my latte! We'll definitely be back again. Cheers! read more

This was absolutely amazing. Upon entry a little confusing. You're supposed to order by QR code but I didn't see it anywhere. Those are for the tables in the back. Not if you sit up front in the coffee shop. So I ordered online but guess I didn't need to. It smells amazing when you enter. This food is drop dead good. I can't wait to come back and try something else. Good thing it's a stones throw from where we are staying. My friend got the cashew vegan cheese whiz on broccoli with apple slices. And he was amazed. He's a cheese lover and normally doesn't like imitation cheese. I got the red fish open face with a tiramisu flavored cold brew. The food like I said was amazing. It was totally different than what I'm used to. Finished it off with buckwheat cranberry muffin. Holy $h!t. Normally I want to try new different places but I know I'll hit this place more than once this week. The place is so cool inside. Playing hip hop. Looks great. Exposed beams. Not too much stuff. I can't think of anything to rock a star for. The food was great. Fresh and came very fast. Everything was delicious. We had the chicken sandwich, brisket sandwich, smash burger, kids smash burger, fries and queso. Everything was enjoyed! It's a cool concept. You scan the QR code on your table and when your food comes it just comes straight to your table. Their ketchup was unique and I'm guessing made in house. It was great! read more

The place: It's got a 50s diner vibe from the outside as viewed from MLK, but that opens into a vast outdoor beer garden with covered seating by way of permanent structures and folding umbrellas. The vibe: Austin laid back. Don't dress up. It's meant to be come-as-you-are. Great place to go with large groups of friends. The service: It's self-paced ordering via ToastTab. If you have a question about your order it's hard to flag down someone to ask. The menu resets with happy hour specials, but I was told sometimes you have to remind them. Food and drinks come out fast due to a highly competent kitchen. The food: At happy hour prices (everyday 3-6) you can't complain too much about the Waygu smashburger although it's awfully thin. The fries were crispy but unusually small. The drinks were good. The bakery items unfortunately were hit or miss. We got the lemon pound cake and it seemed like it did been at the pound for a few days--stale. The bakery ran out of some of the cookies while we were there. The prices: Again, happy hour is fantastic and makes up for some of the baked goods not at peak quality. The verdict: A keeper, especially at happy hour. read more

my first stop on my trip to austin because i wanted to try the breakfast burrito so bad. unfortunately they were sold out. service was fine, food was fine, strange condiments here, and was not a fan of the lemonade but was a pretty decent lunch to kick off my visit. read more
