A couple of nit-pick things that dampened the experience: the flies inside that hung around our table the entire time we were there, the lack of table space for our dishes (I understand we're only a party of 2 but it's frustrating to order things and not have space), and the gentle nudge to leave by a certain time for an upcoming reservation. Came here for dinner with friends and had a nice time, the food and drinks were good! I really enjoyed my chicken ceasar wrap and everyone else liked what they ordered as well. We were a little disappointed with the service though. It took a very long time for our server to take our order and then for us to get our check. Both hosts that were on last night need some major training. The blonde girl was extremely rude and dismissive to the point that I had to ask her to take my name down to be on the waitlist. Girl, that's your literal ONLY job. Tables open throughout the restaurant and makes us wait 30 mins to be seated. Get a new job if you don't like being a host. The other girl with dark hair wouldn't even acknowledge people coming in - people were literally asking us what to do because the hosts wouldn't even welcome people as they came inside. I've passed by this place way too many times and never got to try it. Today, when our plan to eat ramen was ruined by a 2hr waitlist to get a table, we decided to give it a try. We got a booth right the way, got some happy hour cocktails and an appetizer. I can definitely tell that their Hanky Panky Tiki was hanky-panking good. Lox board was huge and it felt like a whole meal to at could be shared by two. However we also had entrees. I went for a chicken sandwich and it was really well seasoned, not dry at all. This was my first visit and after a day of appointments for my Mom we wanted to pick up something and take home to eat. We went to Hanks and realized that they had a drive thru, perfect! They have some very interesting sounding items on the menu. So I ordered a cheeseburger with sweet potato fries for my Mom. I ordered for myself the Pesto Rice bowl and the Garden and Goat salad. I've been here a few times already and it is consistently a good spot in the neighborhood with a lot of parking. Off the times I've been here I can always get a seat since the restaurant is quite huge. Happy hour deals are great. The Monday half off burger is even better. Cocktails are good, staff is very fast and friendly. The food came out so fast that i don't not even been able to build my lox sandwich for a bite. I do really recommend the lox appetizer. This was my first time at Hanks! I've heard great things about this spot from my friends. I love that there was plenty of parking in front and there's additional parking in the back. We had a reservation at 11:30am and were seated promptly. I wasn't expecting the space to be so big! There was great patio seating as well and it was all covered! The Lemon Ricotta pancakes were delicious! The blueberry compote on top was great. The pancakes don't need to be drenched though. Looks unappetizing (it would be nice if this came on the side though!) I love the pairing on Lemon and blueberry especially in the summer! The pancakes were soft, creamy a little sour and sweet! Nicely balanced. The serving size is huge that comes with 3 large pancakes that can be shared. For drinks I ordered a chai latte which was just water and cinnamon :( I think they forgot the mix and I had to send it back. I got a to go matcha instead. I also tried The Whale & The Butterfly which had Gin and Butterfly Pea-flower in it. Very tangy! It was a pretty drink but too sour tasting for me. The Chantilly cake was fine. Not my favorite because of the excess frosting but my friend loved it. Service was pretty slow, so I'm taking 1 star off for that. Came here with my homegirl because she really wanted to try their "Girl Dinner" special. It comes with a wrap, fries, and a martini for $20, which is a great deal! However, I wasn't drinking, so I only got the wrap and fries but was still charged the full $20. That felt a little unfair and honestly kind of like a rip off. Stopped by here for a snack and a drink with a friend. The service was friendly and very quick, and there was plenty of seating, both in a cafe area and a restaurant area. We got fries, sweet potato fries, and brussel sprouts. They accidently gave us fries when we ordered sweet potato fries, so they let us keep both. Each were fairly good, and a decent portion, too. I also got a drink, I believe it was an ube mojito. I remember liking it but think I'd be tempted by some of the others too. Great location, lots of free parking, and lots of seating inside and outside. There is a restaurant portion and a cafe portion. The cafe is great for WFH and has plenty of outlets. I didn't see many outlets in the restaurant portion, so I wouldn't recommend sitting there if you want to WFH. There is some cute bar seating, too. Service is good but can be a little slow at times. If you go to the cafe side, I imagine it's a really nice spot to get some work done, and I've heard good things about their drinks. They also have a drive through, so you can also get it to go! (But it closes at 8.) I think Hanks might be better known for their brunch, after seeing so many pictures of their breakfast items. But we came for dinner at 6:30pm on a Thursday, and had no wait in getting a table. Overall, the food was pretty decent, but also not necessarily anything special. Some standouts for me were that the pizza tasted better than it looked, and I liked the huge chunks of goat cheese in the salad. But I wish the Brussels sprouts were crispier. We enjoyed the white wine on tap, the frozen Paloma, and the Aperol spritz--all refreshing and well-made. The most appropriate term to describe the food at Hank's is "mid." The vibes are nice though. They have both a restaurant and cafe. The cafe was closed for a private event, so we sat outside on the patio and were able to order from the window. The weather was beautiful for studying outside, but as the afternoon came it started to get very sunny, and there is minimal shade covering. I got the fried chicken sandwich, while my friend got Hank's breakfast. I read that their fried chicken sandwich ($16.24) is "famous." The chicken and the bun were both so mid. The bun especially was dry and flaky. The fries were okay. The breakfast potatoes were not very good either, and the sourdough toast was so hard. It was so cold inside the restaurant even when I just went for a few minutes to use the restroom. They had the AC absolutely blasting when it was a pleasant day outside. I have been here a few times and usually stick with a simple black coffee, which is okay. I have also tried their latte, cold brew, and cold coffee with milk. The biscuits are fresh and tasty, definitely worth trying, and the tacos are a nice breakfast option too. The only downside for me is the cold brew because the syrup leaves a lingering aftertaste, and even when I asked for a more balanced drink, it turned out the same. The cafe itself is cute and cozy, a great spot to work, read, or catch up with friends. It is a little loud cafe so be careful if you have meetings. An awesome first trip to Hanks! We stopped here during the middle of a long bike ride out and around Austin. There was ample bike parking, and ample seating both inside and out on this January Saturday early afternoon. We were seated promptly, and our orders were taken shortly thereafter. Our server gave us some recommendations, and was visibly upset when we didn't order one of them haha. Regardless, all three dishes we got (Quiche, Benedict, Smoked Salmon Toast) were VERY good. The salmon toast came with a ton of arugula... almost overwhelming, but it was still surprisingly balanced. The quiche was the dark horse; so flavorful and texturally pleasing. The Benedict was solid, if a touch rich for my taste. The place felt warm, welcoming, and of the highest vibration. The outdoor space was weather controlled, but also felt bright and airy. Hanks is an interestingly located brunch / clean cafe located in Windsor Park just north of Mueller. There is a large amount of free parking located both in front of the restaurant as well as to the side and I believe some retail parking available in the apartment garage just behind Hanks. The interior buildout of Hanks is great - very spacious, airy, and light. They also have a pretty large outdoor patio which means they're able to be quiet efficient as a brunch venue if you don't want to wait 40 - 60 minutes at most other places in Central Austin. Windsor Park itself is still sort of a in-between neighborhood but this block seems to house a decent amount of new development. The menu here is standard - not too large and not too small. I came with a few friends who obsessed over the Lemon Ricotta pancakes and I can see why - the blueberry compote was absolutely delicious. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and ultimately found it to be a little bland, but still passable. On the brightside, I left after eating a whole eggs benedict and side of potatos plus a bit of the pancakes without feeling food coma'y so that was great. The service was a bit lackluster - think they were a bit shortstaffed. We ended up asking for water and extra placesetters multiple times before they ever got attended to. The restaurant was probably 75 - 80% full at brunch-hour so surprised things still took so long. Allegedly their shining attraction is half-price burgers on Mondays - I will be back to try them! read more

While the "new" pizza deserves 1 star, I will keep my overall review at 3 stars for nostalgia & maybe just the other food & the awesome patio. The first pizza was wrong, and the second one they brought was simply overcooked and hard as a brick. I am a pizza snob, but they touted this as east coast pizza. Ummmmmm...no! Not my overcooked piece of yuckiness that they served me. My friend tried a piece & she hated it, too. $16 for something I didn't eat. What a waste of perfectly good ingredients that they destroyed. Really bad. The server was good, but couldn't care less that my pizza was gross. Will I return? Probably. But not for a long time. This really ruined my night. Sadly I used to love Hanks, but it has been disappointing my past few visits where I don't plan on coming back. We had a reservation for 6 at a high top. To start off with service, our server did not seem to want to be there at all. She had no friendly service and felt like we were inconveniencing her when we needed anything. The biggest letdown was the steak and eggs. Not sure what kind of steak they use, it felt like a cheap chuck roast based on how the consistency was. We also ordered a chocolate chip cookie with it and it wasn't too sweet, and looks like it was freshly baked, which made it even better. I really enjoyed that combo. For breakfast, we had the bacon, egg, and cheese tacos. Nothing too fancy, but they were simple and tasty. You can choose between flour or corn tortillas, which is a nice option. It was raining outside, so we stayed inside. The place has a huge patio, and the indoor space is big and open too. It's a great spot if you want to bring your laptop and work while having coffee. They also have their own restaurant right next to the cafe, which I'd love to try for lunch or dinner sometime. I noticed they offer happy hour every day, which sounds fun for weekends! But we did notice the place could've used a little more cleaning some dirt on the floor and tables could have been wiped better. Nothing too bad, just something small. Parking is easy, and they even have garage parking behind the restaurant, which is great if you want to avoid the heat or rain. Cute neighborhood restaurant with ample parking and there is a an adjacent coffee shop to work out of. I've had the chance to enjoy breakfast and lunch on seperate occasions, but my favorite has to be their coffee shop. They have a baked good display featuring scones and jalapeno kolaches which are all great but you have to order the sausage and cheese biscuit sandwich. Ohh the fluffiness of the butter biscuit is so damn good and the cut of the sausage is plump and flavorful. It's served with a side of jam which makes it all the better. I am a lover of cold brew and they have a mint cold brew which is alone worth taking home a gallon. There are a few tables to work out of and they have a great porch to do laptop work on. I've noticed on recent trips they have a drive thru so I'm curious what all they feature. When I went with a fraternity brother to have breakfast, I opted for their blueberry lemon ricotta pancakes and no lies they could just about feed three people. It was so much I had to take about 2/3 home. My friend had the shrimp and grits with the grits being a griddle cake and the sauce was super flavorful. I'm tempted to come back for their dinner series so I can get a better taste of what all they offer. read more
