With two griddle cakes chocolate chip and blueberry. The griddle cakes were the star, the moon and the sun. Every bite was soft, fluffy and vanillas flavored with just the right crisp. Now I would say no matter if chocolate chip or blueberry the griddle cake will hit. The eggs were perfectly cooks, hash browns crispy and cubed. Yes cubed. The sausage patty was so yummy. The sourdough bread though was perfection. Crisped, buttered and flavorful. Take the crew order something different and share! I can't wait to go back and try the French toast. Stopped by with my wife and daughter a few days ago. We weren't sure what to expect, Austin kind of has this grungy vibe to it, but this place met and exceeded expectations. Tons of character, quirky but not cliche or tacky. Very very good service, and super clean restrooms. Now to the food, I had the blue plate special, a breakfast burrito that was exquisite. My wife had the monte Christo and she loved it. My daughter had eggs and bacon with a side of hash browns and it was very fresh and tasty. We added on a pancake of the month, it was a cheesecake strawberry pancake that brought just enough decadence to hit the spot but not create a sugar overload. Definitely recommend. Had breakfast at Toasty Badger in Austin on my recent foodie trip and it was like I walked into a 70s diner, I loved the vintage decor. They serve up classic American comfort food for breakfast and brunch and they do it to perfection. Service was great and everything came out just right. I ordered a Classic 2 Egg Brekky with two eggs over easy, homemade hash browns, and their grilled biscuit with poblano and guajillo sausage gravy. I also had to add one of their big pancakes on the side. I love a good classic pancake and I have to give them credit for having peanut butter. Peanut butter with syrup on a pancake is my favorite way to eat one and it was the perfect add to my breakfast. I would highly recommend making a reservation because this place stays busy. There is a sign that says there is neighborhood parking somewhere behind the place, but I was able to squeeze into the last spot. Wow wow wow!! This place!! "Amazing" doesn't even come close to describing it! From the moment we walked up, the service was incredible. The host -- a young man whose name I unfortunately didn't catch -- made us feel so welcomed. It's Mother's Day weekend, a busy Saturday, and despite how packed it was, he still had a huge smile and was extremely helpful. When he sat us down, he made sure we had shade on the patio and even went to get extra umbrellas to block the sun for us!! Now on to SABRINA!! She walked up with the biggest smile (even in this extreme heat), welcomed us warmly, explained everything, and was so friendly and attentive the entire time. The pancakes there are amazing!! The servers tell everyone that they have to get a pancake for the table, definitely get one! They have plain or several flavors and we got the blueberry. The omelette was also very good. You get a refill of cold brew coffee which is usually rare at restaurants. Very good service. They are very busy on the weekends so I would definitely get a reservation and still be prepared to wait. This is a small brunch spot where they really maximize their seating in the limited space they have. Most of the seating is on the outdoor patio. There was about a 20 minute wait on a Saturday at 11am, and they offered us water while we waited. We found some neighbourhood parking and walked a few minutes as there are only a few spots in the restaurant lot. We got the breakfast sandwich, caramel apple pecan pancake, and I had a mimosa. The breakfast sandwich was smaller than I would have liked, but it was very good. The hash brown in a block was surprisingly tasty. The pancake was decent and fluffy. The mimosa was more sour than I would have liked and overpriced compared to others in Austin. After we paid, we asked the server for a takeout container, and she never came back. Visited the Toasty Badger diner for brunch. Made a reservation and the table was available at the designated time but decided to sit at the bar instead of the outdoor seating due to the heat. The bar seating is first come first served and there was plenty of available seating. The decor is a 70s vibe diner with a very relaxed atmosphere. It was my first time to visit the establishment and they have a good variety of cocktails. We tried the Paloma and the Honey Eyed Fox. I had the American omelette that I was able to customize and added bacon, spinach, mushroom and Gruyère cheese. The omelette was amazing and the ingredients were very generous and it was cooked just right and served with homemade hash browns. The omelette needed a sauce so I added the green verde salsa. Also ordered the specialty pancake with bananas and peanut butter. The pancake is very large portion size as well with a side of bacon. The server was very attentive when sitting at the bar and kept checking up on us. The interior has that neighborhood diner vibe, which brings back some memories of my years on the east coast. Our server/bartender, Alanis, was outstanding. Definitely made our experience an excellent one. Now for the cocktails and food. My dining partner selected a Paloma whilst I chose the Honey Eyed Fox. This concoction was made with bourbon honey infused black tea, and fresh squeezed lemon. Her Paloma was comprised of Tequila, fresh grapefruit and lime juice with a splash of agave soda. Had brunch here on a Sunday with our son and his husband. They are local to Austin and love this spot. We had a 45+ minute wait, but we were able to pass the time by checking out some of the local shops within walking distance. The restaurant also did a nice job of offering coffee and water to those waiting outside. Nice touch! Once seated, we ordered drinks and food. Our drinks were not great and the server mentioned there seemed to be a disconnect between the bartender and the servers. Our server corrected some of the problems by going back and making the drinks herself; however, it did seem odd. The food took quite a while to come out and after 3 of us were served and we were still waiting on the 4th (who had ordered pancakes), I heard our server tell another table that there was a problem with the pancake batter and they had to make a new batch. We ended up finishing our meals before Ben's pancakes arrived at our table. We all thought that with that massive delay and the problems we'd had with our drinks, they might have offered to comp the pancakes. Turns out, they just brought the bill and didn't mention anything. It is a cute place and the food was good, but if hubby and I had gone by ourselves and not with two people who said our overall experience was not the norm, we would not bother to try them again. A great place nestled right at the deflection of congress providing a great view of the Capitol building. While the ambiance was great, the retro diner theme very well executed, and service was fine, 2/3 of the ordered food dishes went to waste because they really just didn't taste very good and were tough to keep eating and that is saying something because we pretty are anti-food waste. The amount of syrup necessary to moisten the cake was not sustainable so the person that ordered this was only able to eat a small slice of it. I cut myself a big slice but like could not finish it because it really was quite dry. Next is the $23 salad with chicken. The taste of this salad was just mid..... it was missing something to tie the mildly bitter flavors in it together. Perhaps because the peaches were not sweet and the vinaigrette was not sweet either. The seasonal greens were 95% spinach and this may have been affecting the flavor. I thought some romaine would have helped lighten and sweeten the flavors going on. The chicken which was $8 of the $23 was also dry and not juicy. The blue plate special, which changes, but was a ham Benedict, was pretty tasty and I liked the coffee. Unfortunately, we ended up sharing the Benedict between all 3 of us mostly since none of the 3 of us liked the other two dishes. I saw some sandwiches for other tables come out that looked really good and our food also looked really good but then tasted not that good. It kind of seemed like an aesthetic matters more than taste place, which doesn't align with my interests when eating out.
