This place has been on my list ever since it opened and I finally made it out! I was so excited to try everything. I like everything on my breakfast sandwich, the egg was cooked perfectly and the sausage was very flavorful, the honey mustard sauce really brought it to the next level. I was disappointed in the english muffin itself, I wish it was fluffier. The pancake was huge and I was so excited. Unfortunately it didn't hit. I can't really explain what it did taste like but I know it was missing that "buttermilk" flavor and the texture was off. I really like the aesthetic but I will say I felt super close to the other tables. The service was nice and we were seated prompted at our reservation at 10 on a Saturday. The floor was also dirty and definitely needs a good mop. French toast, lightly crispy on the outside, warm and soft inside. The hint of the lemon is a great touch. The food at Toasty Badger was excellent and definitely the highlight of our visit! Our server behind the bar was also incredibly kind and clearly working very hard despite how busy it was. However, I was disappointed with the reservation process. I made a reservation on Wednesday for Sunday at 11:00 a.m., but we weren't seated until about 11:15. When we were finally seated, it was at the bar. I had assumed that making a reservation meant we would have a table, and I wasn't aware that I needed to specifically request one. When I went back to the host stand to ask, I was told my reservation was listed as a bar reservation on their end, and that the only table available would require another 20-minute wait outside. My suggestion would be for the restaurant to make it much clearer during the reservation process that guests need to specify if they want a table instead of bar seating. That would help avoid confusion and set the right expectations. Overall, the food and service were great, but the reservation experience could definitely be improved. read more

My wife had the monte Christo and she loved it. My daughter had eggs and bacon with a side of hash browns and it was very fresh and tasty. We added on a pancake of the month, it was a cheesecake strawberry pancake that brought just enough decadence to hit the spot but not create a sugar overload. Definitely recommend. There was about a 20 minute wait on a Saturday at 11am, and they offered us water while we waited. We found some neighbourhood parking and walked a few minutes as there are only a few spots in the restaurant lot. We got the breakfast sandwich, caramel apple pecan pancake, and I had a mimosa. The breakfast sandwich was smaller than I would have liked, but it was very good. The hash brown in a block was surprisingly tasty. The pancake was decent and fluffy. The pancakes there are amazing!! The servers tell everyone that they have to get a pancake for the table, definitely get one! They have plain or several flavors and we got the blueberry. The omelette was also very good. You get a refill of cold brew coffee which is usually rare at restaurants. Very good service. They are very busy on the weekends so I would definitely get a reservation and still be prepared to wait. Wow wow wow!! This place!! "Amazing" doesn't even come close to describing it! From the moment we walked up, the service was incredible. The host -- a young man whose name I unfortunately didn't catch -- made us feel so welcomed. It's Mother's Day weekend, a busy Saturday, and despite how packed it was, he still had a huge smile and was extremely helpful. When he sat us down, he made sure we had shade on the patio and even went to get extra umbrellas to block the sun for us!! Now on to SABRINA!! She walked up with the biggest smile (even in this extreme heat), welcomed us warmly, explained everything, and was so friendly and attentive the entire time. She even gave me a twisted straw with my to-go coffee -- it's the little details like that that make such a difference!! And the FOOD... beyond amazing. Literally, even the eggs tasted like heaven!! I appreciated that they had a bit of parking, the lot is definitely on the smaller side, so finding a space might be hit or miss, but at least there is parking, which is always a win in Austin. Visited the Toasty Badger diner for brunch. Made a reservation and the table was available at the designated time but decided to sit at the bar instead of the outdoor seating due to the heat. The bar seating is first come first served and there was plenty of available seating. The decor is a 70s vibe diner with a very relaxed atmosphere. It was my first time to visit the establishment and they have a good variety of cocktails. We tried the Paloma and the Honey Eyed Fox. I had the American omelette that I was able to customize and added bacon, spinach, mushroom and Gruyère cheese. The omelette was amazing and the ingredients were very generous and it was cooked just right and served with homemade hash browns. The omelette needed a sauce so I added the green verde salsa. Also ordered the specialty pancake with bananas and peanut butter. The pancake is very large portion size as well with a side of bacon. The server was very attentive when sitting at the bar and kept checking up on us. The interior has that neighborhood diner vibe, which brings back some memories of my years on the east coast. Our server/bartender, Alanis, was outstanding. She provided us great information on the selections on the menu, especially their griddle cakes, which one could feed a family of three haha. She is great. Definitely made our experience an excellent one. Now for the cocktails and food. My dining partner selected a Paloma whilst I chose the Honey Eyed Fox. This concoction was made with bourbon honey infused black tea, and fresh squeezed lemon. Her Paloma was comprised of Tequila, fresh grapefruit and lime juice with a splash of agave soda. Both were delicious us and a tad potent which was good. Highly recommend. For the main course, my partner chose the French Omlette and I the Griddle Cake of the month. Had brunch here on a Sunday with our son and his husband. They are local to Austin and love this spot. We had a 45+ minute wait, but we were able to pass the time by checking out some of the local shops within walking distance. The restaurant also did a nice job of offering coffee and water to those waiting outside. Nice touch! Once seated, we ordered drinks and food. Our drinks were not great and the server mentioned there seemed to be a disconnect between the bartender and the servers. Our server corrected some of the problems by going back and making the drinks herself; however, it did seem odd. The food took quite a while to come out and after 3 of us were served and we were still waiting on the 4th (who had ordered pancakes), I heard our server tell another table that there was a problem with the pancake batter and they had to make a new batch. We ended up finishing our meals before Ben's pancakes arrived at our table. We all thought that with that massive delay and the problems we'd had with our drinks, they might have offered to comp the pancakes. Turns out, they just brought the bill and didn't mention anything. It is a cute place and the food was good, but if hubby and I had gone by ourselves and not with two people who said our overall experience was not the norm, we would not bother to try them again. A great place nestled right at the deflection of congress providing a great view of the Capitol building. Almost everything in Austin these days has been something else and this location apparently used to be a Dairy Queen! I got lucky and found a spot in their lot but a couple others had to park a block or so away and walk in the heat so I suggest you get there early. The waitress was fun and helpful.
