So excited to see another Phoebe's location open in South Austin. This location met and exceeded my breakfast expectations, and left my group planning our next visit. This space is bright and clean, and is decorated like a modern farmhouse. We were seated upon entry at a cute two person booth in the back of the diner and a server quickly came around to place our orders. If you are a cold brew and horchata person, Phoebe's nitrochata is a must. To eat, I ordered my tried and true favorite, Phoebe's biscuits and gravy. Phoebe's conveniently offers a half order for those of us less hungry for a full meal or planning to also order items à la carte. I went the second route, and also ordered Phoebe's delish hash brown casserole. It was cheesy and crispy, but I wish the portion size was larger. My table also ordered the Brisket Benny, with tender beef, creamy hollandaise, and bbq sauce over biscuits. I headed here with my wife and daughter on a Saturday for a brunch. I really wanted to like it because it has "diner" in the name and everything on the menu sounded like my kind of food. Unfortunately, there were more downs than ups for me that morning. First was the seating. We were given a booth near the back of the seating area and I could barely get into the booth. I'm not Pee Wee Herman I'm a 250 lb construction worker and the edge of the table was firmly pressed against my rib cage which was highly uncomfortable. Nor could I move anything because the table legs completely filled the floor space below to the point that I had to turn my feet sideways to get my legs under the table. We kept accidentally kicking each other's feet. I got the Badass Bacon & Eggs and I'll say that it may have been the best bacon I've ever had. Sadly, it was the only thing I really enjoyed. The toast was just a single small slice of bread, the eggs were fine but nothing special, and the hash browns were a very odd mushy casserole thing which I wasn't expecting based upon the menu. The tableware was also a disappointment. It was metal but the thinnest tableware I've ever used. The fork was so thin that it was actually painful to use it. Our service was fine but, again, nothing special. I donno -- there were a lot of dishes on the menu that sound good so maybe I'll return and try something else. If you read my original review, you can see I've been a huge fan of Phoebe's and was so excited when this one opened. First time I went it was fantastic. I went again and it was pretty subpar. The eggs benedict - each egg was cooked very differently. One was very runny and the other was very hard. The hollandaise sauce was like pure mayo. Service was aloof. Phoebe's went from a place I rave about and take friends/family visiting to I'm not sure if I want to go there. Reached out to them to see if I can get an explanation but never heard back. I ordered the chicken biscuit and my boyfriend ordered the badass bacon and eggs. The bacon was some of the meatiest, thick bacon I'd ever seen. The hashbrown casserole was very savory. The chicken biscuit plate was everything I wanted it to be and more. The biscuit was fluffy and salty. The chicken was perfect and the potatoes were honestly not really needed because I was pretty full from the rest of it, though they were tasty on their own. We will definitely be back! read more

We tried to go to the Phoebe's Diner in North Austin, but there was a long wait so we joined the waitlist online for the new South location off Slaughter Lane and headed down. By the time we got there, our table was ready. Our server made it to the table pretty quickly. The menu is extensive and has some unique dishes. I got the Phoebe's Benedict which had a side of hash brown casserole. It was filling and delicious. My wife loved the Pimento Omelette, and it was large enough for leftovers the next day. Although the restaurant bills itself as a greasy diner, I found it to be modern, yet comfortable. We will be back! read more

I was up early so I brought a book and grabbed a little booth near the bar- which is perfect. I think they might be the booths from when it was The Local? They had remodeled right before they closed and put little booths near the window. If you were a fan of the local, sitting in one of these booths might bring a smile to your face. I'm just guessing they might be the same. I'm going to tell myself they are so I can reminisce. :) The hostess was lovely and recommended the baked eggs. I was wavering between that and the beet hash. Next time I'll try that. The baked eggs came out bubbly and fresh. There were two thick slices of sourdough. The flavors were good and the egg was perfectly cooked. The vibe is cool. The music is good. The people working seem to get along and have fun. Being a teacher, I noticed a spelling mistake on the menu. It's a weird flaw of mine. Misspellings always jump out at me on menus. ;) This place is called a diner and has the feel of a diner, but the prices are a bit higher than an old classic diner. Phoebe's is more of an upscale retro diner. My baked eggs (with just water) came to around $22 with tax and tip. This place fills up fast. I left around 8:15 and it was already pretty full. We were seated immediately on a Wednesday morning. The restaurant has been updated since the previous place and the decor is nice and bright. We were enjoying chatting at the table until the staff came to set up a table for a large group - the chair noise was deafening! Then the group came to seat themselves and the noise repeated. They really need to address this as it was off-putting. I had the green chorizo hash, recommended by the server, which was spicy and rather mushy as the vegetables were very soft. Jalapeños were served on the side and I was glad as the heat would have overwhelmed the dish otherwise. The hush puppies on my friend's plate were underdone but mine were okay. The other order was baked eggs which came in a tomato sauce. It was flavorful but she would have preferred looser yolks. Service was good. This was my first experience at any Phoebe's Diner where this new location was recently opened. This place was busy and did not released had to get on a waiting list but scanned a code to get on it. The wait was not too long until wad able to sit at a table. They do have bar seating and the decor is fresh and bright. This place is basically an early day diner with hours from 7:00 AM-3:00 PM. I ordered the Badass Bacon + Eggs with a Prickly Pear Pomegrante Mimosa. The table setting was very nice and a bit different having a Dads Jokes book on the table. There was no stage with a microphone where you could get on it and read jokes from this book. The mimosa was really good. The bacon was nice, thick and had great flavor. The eggs tasted wonderful too and the bread was very grainy making it very healthy. Overall very fresh tasting and delicious. Recommend getting on the waitlist before you arrive. read more

Marcus, our waiter, was very nice and helpful. We were consistently checked in on despite this place being extremely busy. There is a reason why this place is hopping! The food was delicious! Perfect portions, no take home boxes here. As my mom lovingly joked with me, we left no crumbs. Not to compete with my dad reading the Dads joke book they supplied. Brand new location and I could tell the staff needed more reps. Not very knowledgeable about the menu. I was told the house salad was pretty special, though it was just ok. Paid $6 for side of brisket which was basically a scoop of all fat/flab in tons of juice/sauce and basically inedible. Also was charged for swapping the dressing on the side. Other folks' food at the table looked better so maybe worth trying again after the restaurant gets going. read more

Ordered food from Phoebe's for pickup. The restaurant is super cute, and has a very old school diner kind of vibe. We were greeted right away and someone went to get our food. Several people checked in on us to make sure we were being helped! I got the taquito salad and the beet hash, and my husband got the chicken biscuit. The taquito salad was AMAZING, but I was unfortunately underwhelmed by the hash. Beets were slightly hard/undercooked and there wasn't a ton of flavor. My husband devoured the chicken biscuit and raved about it all day. They are very heavy-handed with the guacamole, which I appreciated. Overall a great experience, but sad about the hash. read more

Chris was an absolute pleasure to meet, Sky was friendly, and this spot is easy to seat "no reservations" (other locations better to use the online wait list in advance). Otherwise the Green Chorizo Shrimp & Grits were hearty and creamy with a medley of textures and flavors, but perhaps better suited as hangover food - not fully refined with chorizo lacking flavor, and skimping on shrimp. Late to the party, but better late than never! I had heard great things for years about Phoebe's Diner, but the first two locations were inconvenient for me. I tried the new location on Brodie and now I understand why it's highly rated! The food was incredible! I like to have both salty and sweet so I started with the Bada** Bacon & Eggs. The slab of bacon takes bacon to a whole new level! It was thick and juicy and cooked to perfection. The hashbrown casserole side was flavorful and moist. Even the toast was delicious. They use thick, nutty bread with just the right amount of butter. It's the way toast is supposed to be. Now let me get to the ricotta short stack cakes. Talk about AMAZING! Thick, fluffy and tasty. The best EVER. I sat at the counter where I received top notch service from Alyssa. She was friendly, informative, and fun. Honestly, I found all the staff to be friendly. Oh, and the atmosphere was great, too. Fun nostalgia above the bar and fun 90s music played during my visit. If you haven't been, you must give Phoebe's a try. Visited for the first time today and was fairly disappointed in the quality of food and beverage vs. the prices. Got a drip coffee that was $4.50 that was so bitter, even with sugar and cream. A glass of OJ that couldn't have been more than 6 oz was $5.50. I ordered the chicken biscuit and both the chicken and biscuit were bone dry. The dish is paired with a side of potatoes which were also bone dry. Mother in law ordered the mozzarella omelet, which tasted much better, but the overall composition made it a bowl of goo. My partner ordered the eggs Benedict which was the best dish on the table, other than feature the incredible dry biscuit. The restaurant is very small and they pack in as many tables and guests as they can. The restaurant was definitely on the louder side. Best part of the experience was the service. I was so excited that Phoebe's was opening a location close by me. I love the Oltorf location and I've never had a bad meal there. Now, on to my review of the new Brodie Ln. location. I must begin by saying that our server was great and attentive . The lunch menu is very limited at all Phoebe locations. We ordered off of the lunch menu and the food came out pretty quickly, but the french fries and tater tots were cold. The very small piece of chicken on the chicken sandwich wasn't warm either and had no flavor to the chicken at all. The description said it came with lettuce and tomatoes, but when it came out with soggy shredded lettuce, I was disappointed. The sandwich didn't look very appetizing and sad to say it wasn't good at all...it definitely was not worth $16.99. If only I had gone to Chick-fil-A... I will give it another shot, but I'm going to stick with the breakfast/brunch menu. I will update my review if they step it up and make sure they serve food that is hot. read more
