Came in on a Monday morning. Not too busy. Ordered the special that day. Waited about 30 minutes for the order. There was an issue in the kitchen with communication we heard, and the order was miss made and had to be fired again. We were told a few times as it got closer that it should be out any minute. We did notice the time it was taking but didn't press the staff. When it was placed on the table it looked good and it tasted great. Shortly after receiving it, we had a manager come and express deep apology and explain what happened. And said that they'd take care of the item for us. That was a surprise and great deal of hospitality. Thank you for being a place that honors time and the guest. We didn't even have to ask for any retrospective aid because of the issue. Decided to give Phoebe's a try, as we were looking for a nice place to dine after moving our daughter into UT Austin. We stopped in around 10 on a Friday morning. It's downtown Austin, but there's a few inexpensive self pay parking spots located on the east side of the building....or west depending on where your coming from. But we were seated straight away. They have super spacious booths that can hold larger parties, we sat 5 and a pup comfortably! Their menu has awesome classic and great fresh take-breakfast and lunch options. Our server was cool and gave some great recommendations. (Caution- if they offer any options not originally mentioned- there is an up charge- and those add up quickly!) Once ordered our food came out pretty quickly and was delicious! Everything was fresh, tasty and fairly priced. Definitely one of our better Diner experiences! First time at Phoebe's! My family and I were exploring Austin for the day (drove from SATX). We decided to stop by for brunch and everything we ordered was delicious! We were a pretty big party (8) and they accommodated us fairly quickly despite how busy they were! Our sever, Jenna was amazing and so attentive! My sis in law and I ordered an iced Vietnamese coffee and it was DELICIOUS! To eat I ordered; the kids blueberry pancakes for my daughter and the green chili chorizo hash for myself. We ordered a variety of items, and the standout favorites were definitely the brussel sprouts and the fried chicken served with the chicken and grits - both were absolutely delicious. The chicken caesar wrap was good, but the dressing being served on the side took away a bit from the full caesar wrap experience since it was difficult to evenly add the dressing while eating. The Phoebe's Diner downtown location is much bigger and nicer than the Oltorf location in south Austin. There's free street parking directly across the street, which is a big plus downtown. The service was very warm and friendly but not as attentive. The yogurt parfait was delicious. I ordered it without the lemon curd and it was still fantastic. The portion was very generous so I couldn't even finish it. The tater tots were perfectly crispy and soooo good dipped in ranch. A few sides were a bit disappointing. The mushrooms and spinach were a bit too salty, and the side of scrambled eggs looked very dry - my friend didn't even eat them, and the bacon was so thick it tasted like ham. Had a great breakfast date here! We shared the brisket burrito and two pancakes, which was a good portion early in the morning that didn't leave us feeling heavy. Firstly, the food is amazing. You won't be disappointed. Servers are friendly, so that's good. What was disappointing/needs work: 1. I couldn't get the "Join Waitlist" on Toasttab to work for the downtown location. It worked for other locations but not the one we wanted. So we waited about 15 minutes (not a huge deal) but why offer and even advertise it at the restaurant if it doesn't work? 2. When walking in to get on the waitlist, I was waiting behind someone who was being helped. Another person walked in behind me to also get on the list, and a second employee helped them first and skipped me. Again, not a big deal, but just not a great way to start, especially when I'd been annoyed with item 1 to even get on the list at all. Please attend the line and not the person pushing their way in. 3. The shrimp on my shrimp and grits were amazing and plentiful but I had almost no grits in that skillet. Maybe there should be a different serving vessel and they would be more present. Tasty but I had two bites with any significant amount of grit to shrimp ratio! Would I come back? Yes! None of the things above are deal breakers but just annoying for a first time patron. If it continues to happen, I'd reconsider my answer. Kids can choose either fruit or tots and they each opted for each. Fruits cup has typical fruit choices but the highlight is truly the tater tots which has a perfect crisp. We also ordered the Vietnamese coffee (3.5/5) and it was strong and sweet like a typical Vietnamese coffee but it has this odd after taste of possible burnt beans. Absolutely one of my favorite brunch places to go to in Austin! There is one dish here that I come for, and it's the crab cake Benedict. The dish is very well executed and has the perfect amount of richness to it. The crab has always tasted fresh, and there is definitely a good amount in each crab cake. This dish comes with one side and I like to get their hashbrown casserole. Service is typically good, and it's definitely a great restaurant to visit with family and friends. The outside was battered/fried super crispy and held the structure of the pepper, and reminded me of like a doritos loco taco. Although I prefer the traditional rendition of chile relleno all around, I do think this shell helps the egg stuffing from being too plain.
