Breakfast taco & hash brown tacos
Jill C.

Tasty spot that felt like a trip back in time. We enjoyed breakfast tacos, pancakes, etc. Strawberry danishes were a hit! Service was friendly but not super attentive. Ambience was fun and retro, booths were fun but a bit cumbersome to get in and out of.

While visiting Austin with My family, we got really hungry and just went to the closest restaurant we found that was walking distance, which was Joann's fine foods. I honestly was not impressed at all. It's Tex Mex fyi. I ordered the chicken rings taco combo. The flavor was decent but definitely nowhere near being considered "Mexican". Their fresh juices are good, the place itself is very retro/diner vibes. Service was ok. Overall, ok experience. Probably won't return.

Love Joann's! We ubered since parking is tough on South Congress. We started with chips, queso, guac, + salsa. Their queso is unique and comes with a soy chorizo which was great. We shared the steak and chicken fajitas which came with queso fundito. Fajitas was amazing just a little too greasy in my opinion but still 5 stars! Staff was super nice and attentive the whole time. I also loved their Tommy's margarita. Perfect amount of sweetness.

Hello Patio Weather Season!? -ish..... Apparently my husband has been waiting all year for the polenta to come back onto the menu. Combine that with a random cool brisk day in ATX and patio here we come. We came for the polenta but got the benefits of trying out some Happy hour bites and bevies. Everything.was.on.point here. Waiter is amazingly on it but not overbearing (iykyk). The polenta was better then remembered and worth the wait. We ordered one but had to order another because the whole table couldn't get get enough of this goodness. The depth of flavor, the quality of ingredients just sells itself. This is a must try guys. Catch ot while it's still in season. Also another star of the show is their Tommy Marg. It's hit or miss what a $5 marg might get you but let me tell you - the freshness of this marg I cannot stop dreaming about. This is a place we could frequent for sure.

Joann's is a cute Austin classic. We stopped in for Happy Hour and really enjoyed the margaritas! The fries and salsa were good too. However - the salsa was the only appetizer NOT included in the Happy Hour menu, which was not made indicated anywhere on the menu or made clear until after we ordered.

Fan-tas-tic. I see why this place is so popular! I got the Bodega Breakfast Sando and it was perfect. Each component complimented each other perfectly. Great taste and portion size. I did not feel heavy after (which is essential for post-meal shopping on SoCo!) My friend got the hashbrown nachos for the table. I didn't realize it till after, but it didn't come with chips! Clearly, they didn't need them and I didn't miss them. It was super tasty. All you needed was a spoon! The atmospherics are iconic. I love the old school diner feel. They have a decent amount of seating for groups. Good amount of both indoor and outdoor seating.

Retro Vibes, Modern Tex-Mex, and a Killer Patio!!! Joann's Fine Foods is a South Congress staple that perfectly blends vintage diner charm with bold Tex-Mex flavors. Located in the iconic Austin Motel, this spot is as much about the atmosphere as it is about the food. Think mid-century booths, wood paneling, and a breezy patio that's perfect for people-watching or soaking up the Austin sun. The wood-grilled fajitas are a must--served sizzling with house-made tortillas and all the fixings. I also loved the Green Chicken Enchiladas and the Avocado & Tuna Tartare, which were both fresh and flavorful. Their queso is dangerously addictive, and the frozen margaritas live up to the hype--especially during their daily happy hour. Service is friendly and fast, and the vibe is laid-back but stylish. Whether you're stopping in for brunch, dinner, or just drinks at the palapa bar, Joann's delivers a consistently great experience. It's also a great spot for groups or a casual date night.

Joanne's Rainbow Salad is always on my list when I am traveling to Austin! The service is quick and the colorful retro diner is happy and fresh. We have loved every meal at Joanne's!

Such a cute restaurant. I really felt like I was back in time this place. We had a nice Breakfast and enjoyed sitting outside. The Service was really good too. Forks up! We will be back!!

My wife and I stopped by Joann's for a Rita and some fajitas and had a great time. The vibes were awesome--fun energy and really friendly service. Kevin took great care of us and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was spot on, and we especially loved the queso fundido that comes with the fajitas--such a nice touch! We'll definitely be back.

We stopped for the air conditioning but were rewarded with a very good meal. The food was well prepared and we had no regrets. The vibe is retro diner and it works. They also have seating outside but it was very hot. They have the water sprayers and fans but we needed AC. The staff is super friendly and provided great service. Stop and see these guys, they're great!

My sister ordered this and I can't remember the name of the dish. But she said it was delicious the best she's had.

The menu isn't huge, but honestly that's usually a good sign -- focus on doing a smaller menu really well instead of serving 94 mediocre things and a sad waffle. I ordered the Bad Ass Bacon & Eggs plate. It came with thick-cut bacon, 2 eggs, hash brown casserole, wheat toast, and smoked salsa. Bacon - 9/10 This wasn't your average thin breakfast bacon. Thick-cut, almost pork belly style, with killer flavor and very meaty. Eggs - 9/10 Cooked perfectly and tasted fresh. Simple, but done right. Hash Brown Casserole - 8/10 Different than what I expected, but in a good way. Unique flavor and a great addition to the plate. Salsa - 7/10 Very homemade style salsa with a smoky flavor. Different, but really good. Atmosphere - 9/10 Loved the vibe. Cozy atmosphere, great music, and just an overall comfortable place to sit and enjoy breakfast. If this place was closer to home, I'd eat here often. Service - 10/10 Excellent service. Christy H. was friendly, attentive, and on point the whole time. Overall - 9/10 Definitely a must-try breakfast spot in Austin. They currently have four locations, and after eating here, it's easy to see why.

This place does get busy due to how popular the place is. They don't take reservations, so you have to there to put yourself on the waitlist. While you wait you can order a drink. We didn't since there were other coffee shops I wanted to try. Since everything looked so good on the menu, we asked our waitress what's the most popular. He recommended the chicken & biscuits, cinnamon toast, & the b.e.c sandwich. I ended up getting the b.e.c. sandwich & it was yummy. The sesame challah bun was soft & toasty. The bacon was smoky & crispy. The bacon, pimiento cheese, jalapeño jam, sunny egg, & arugula in the sandwich was the perfect combination for a breakfast sandwich. The potato wedges that it was served with were crispy, well seasoned, & not salty as all. My boyfriend ordered the chicken & biscuit & it was yummy as well. The chicken was crispy & juicy. Paired with the hot honey made it better. The biscuit was fluffy, but I wished it was more buttery. Overall, everything was so good. I'm definitely gonna try the cinnamon toast & other foods the next time I'm in Austin.

Not quite sure why the food was subpar, but there were 10 of us who all agreed we wouldn't return for food. There is a swanky little cozy speakeasy in the basement that may be good? I drove by it for 20 years on the way to Avenue Barber Shop. I wanted shredded beef tacos but couldn't get them without cilantro so I chose shredded beef enchiladas (with an $8!) side of chips and salsa. My wife ordered scrambled eggs, bacon and home fries. She requested soft eggs, as she always does because too many places overcook them. The chips and salsa arrived. I was immediately disappointed. The menu said "we make our own chips." They were thick and yellow and appeared to be run-of-the-mill, out-of-a-bag chips. I prefer the thin white ones. I took one bite of salsa, and that was one bite too many. Cumin. I pushed it all aside. Cumin doesn't belong in salsa. (Sorry. I grew up in the Rio Grande Valley.) My enchiladas came with black beans, and there was cumin in them. Cumin is overused and abused in most restaurants. I couldn't eat them. The rice was good but the chipotle sauce on the enchiladas was not. I scraped most of the sauce off and ate one enchilada, mainly because I just needed something in my stomach. We were still 45 miles from home. I pushed my plate away. I also ordered coffee. One sip of that was all I could stand. Too weak for me. It gets worse, much worse. My wife's eggs were barely cooked. She asked the waiter for some cooked eggs. He took her plate and returned about four minutes later. The eggs were still not cooked. She tried another bite but couldn't eat them. Her bacon was tough as a boot and not chewable. The home fries were average, but by the time her plate arrived at our table for the second time, they were cold. I pulled my card out waiting for our excellent server to return. He asked how everything was (he had to notice two plates still covered with food) and we politely told him. I ate one enchilada and some rice. My wife had two bites of egg and two bites of potato. He apologized and handed me the check. $65. Nothing comped and nothing adjusted. A manager should've been summoned. How does a place like this have any customers? It was our first and last visit.
