Pro tip: you have to pay for parking (city parking) I'm not really into the instagram vibes at restaurants, as the quality of food usually goes down. Gabriela's is definitely a girl's girl's night kind of place. You're going to get the extravagant cocktails and the colorful signs and lighting. The decor is definitely fun and the music is on point The plates are large, and sometimes a little over the top, but hey! It goes with the vibe. Terrible service we walked in we got sat down and no one even looked at us to attend us!! We Waited 20 mins! No one even looked at us it was super disappointing. At least someone can come over and say we will be with you, or sorry for the delay it just feels super disrespectful! There was at lease one server on the table right next to us, another buss boy attending the table and even a third person working the bar that was coming over to attend the table next to us and yet not a single word from anybody. The place wasn't even full so it's difficult to comprehend why we were completely ignored. To top it off we had to pay for parking, the lot is huge hassle and is in terrible condition potholes like the moon, don't ever take a smaller/low car here. Tbh is place was absolutely amazing! The margaritas are fantastic, but the Paloma's were so refreshing. We had a combo of queso and Mexican corn for appetizers, awesome on both! We all had something different. The ceviche was top notch, I had enchiladas. It was the perfect amount with the perfect amount of flavor! We loved it. They even surprised our friend for his birthday with signs. Sparklers, and a free shot of tequila!!! Highly recommend. The patio is perfect for a great date night or first date. Very good Mexican food in a cool restaurant. We've been to Gabriela's numerous times, usually when we were in the area for some music. The last visit, we stopped in for lunch during SXSW. We sat on the back porch, which is nice when the weather permits. We wanted to share some smaller plates so we ordered two ceviche tostadas and two sopecitos. It turned out to be a lot of food, more than enough for two people, and was all really delicious. The shrimp ceviche was amazing, in a spicy tomato mixture and mounded on the tostada. It was delicious. The fish ceviche was also great, nice and lime-flavored and also a huge portion. The sopecitos were also very good. We had a chicken mole and a chicken tinga. The service was good and the prices were reasonable for the quality and amount of food. Definitely recommend Gabriela's. read more

I have been wanting to go to Gabriela's for quite some time, especially because it's another one of those spots that's within walking distance from my house. Had the chance to have a holiday lunch with work colleagues at Gabriela's & wow. First, let's start with the bad: PARKING IS NEAR NON-EXISTENT. There is a small pay lot next to the restaurant that is privately owned (the restaurant has nothing to do with it). It is expensive and a mess. Not maintained well at all. The lot can hold maybe 6-10 cars (if that), and if you enter from 7th, it's kind of uphill on a little grade. It's also angled weird. And, FILLED WITH HUGE POTHOLES. My Mini scraped the bottom the whole time. What a nightmare. Luckily, I didn't have to pay to park; directly behind the restaurant are four spots for customers. I was able to grab the last open space. You know, after dragging my car through that mess. The restaurant, like many in Austin, is in an old house. A cute bungalow-style home that's decorated in a welcoming, modern, and eclectic theme. Lots of color, murals, photo op areas, etc. They've got a really nicely sized covered patio. The patio was all decked out for the holidays and looked amazing. The food was good. Like darn good. I had a side order of Mexican Green Spaghetti, and that poblano sauce hit the spot. It had a creamy and fresh flavor. I also got the Gringas quesadilla with skirt steak. It's basically a one-tortilla quesadilla flipped over. It was packed with so much gooey cheese, steak, onion, and cilantro that it was a meal in itself. The tomatillo sauce had quite a little kick and really made the quesadilla pop with flavor. The other folks I was with had two different types of enchiladas and tacos. We all really dug our food and have decided it would be a great place to become one of our regular workplace gatherings. That is, if we arrive via Lyft, Waymo, Uber, or walking. Seriously, I will go back, especially since it's only a ten-minute walk from my apartment. read more

I always wanted to try this location because of the views. I had gone to the south location plenty of times and of course, it's much bigger. This location is very small and the wait was long but we did have a group of 10. I did call ahead of time and they still had us wait an hour. The host wasn't that friendly and I would stick to my south location when my family and friends come into town. The food is always 10/10 and we all love Birria tacos. It is a bit pricey but worth it my family from California really enjoyed this place they said it felt like they were at a day club and didn't want to leave (lol). Our server was very nice and she took her time I'm sad I forgot her name but she really made sure once she talked to us that she took care of us and got everything we needed. read more

I was really disappointed with my experience at Gabriela's Downtown Austin. The service was incredibly slow, and it felt like our table was forgotten for most of the meal. We waited far too long just to be greeted, and getting refills or checking on our order was nearly impossible. What made the experience even more unprofessional was seeing our waitress walking around the restaurant eating fries from Cane's while she was supposed to be serving tables. It gave the impression that customers weren't the priority and reflected a lack of professionalism. The food couldn't make up for the poor service, and the overall experience left a bad impression. There are so many great restaurants in Austin with attentive staff, so unfortunately I don't see myself returning. read more

The restaurant itself has a super cute porch and a great view of the city line! Inside is a little cram so I wouldn't recommend. We did a reservation the day before and had no problem getting in. Service was a little slow in the beginning but food came out extremely quick and was AMAZING! Highly recommend the queso and puffy tacos. Everyone at our table loved the homemade chips. We would have liked to know that you can't split the check per entree before hand but wasn't a problem for us; and everything is priced really well! Mid Gabriele's is really cute with a nice outside area to sit and eat. However the food was mid. I was there for brunch. My friends and I got the pineapple mimosa tower and it was good . My friend ordered guacamole for an appetizer and it was really tasty. I order the tipsy French toast with the birria empanadas. The guy empanadas were big , but there was not much meat in them. The meat was bland and the consommé was the most bland I've ever tasted!! The tipsy French toast was really good, I wish I had more of the syrup that was on it. Overall the food was mid. Came here for dinner with my husband, another couple, and 3 children around 7:30 on a Friday night. We each paid $17 for parking right off the bat. We were sat down pretty quickly, but the music was already very loud inside. Our drink and appetizer order was taken very quickly; however, we were all taken aback by the fact there was no salsa delivered to the table. Instead you have to purchase a $5 salsa sampler. The food was ok- definitely nothing to write home about, and the service was subpar. When we got our bills we were both already had a 20% gratuity added. The service here was great! Jay was handling the bar and the outside tables and still accommodated us well without us feeling like a burden or rushed. He rang in our happy hour orders with only a few mins to spare because we'd arrived just 10 mins before it ended. From there the happy hour items came out quickly! For the entree, I ordered the enchiladas and a fish taco. The enchiladas had steak strips in them topped with a chili con queso and came with rice and beans on the side. I didn't enjoy the enchiladas, mainly because of the chile sauce (the red sauce) and also because it was pretty cold when it got to me. The sauce was a strong flavor and covered the dish, but if you like that flavor then that will be no problem! I ordered the fish taco as well because I was torn between so many items (their menu is pretty big). But I loved the taco and I hate I didn't order more. The tortilla was a great thickness, the fish was nice and flavorful with the perfect amount of crisp to it. The slaw and sauces on top were perfect, not too much or too little. I don't know that this is a place I'd come back to next time I'm in Austin, but if I do, it would be for those tacos! It's also a super cute partially indoor, mostly outdoor space. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the beautiful skyline. The decor here made us feel like we were in Miami. So if you're into aesthetics and love a happy hour and tacos, then this is the place for you. read more

The service was great. Her name was Priscilla she was so sweet. The ambience is so fucking cute. It's like an old house that's now a restaurant! The back patio is to die for!!!! and they do live DJs. Definitely a weekend brunch hang out. As for the food, it was pretty good. We got the birria grilled cheese. We got the chorizo queso (it is a fundido) not a dip and the shrimp ceviche ( it was good but it's a tomato base) so kinda just a personal preference, I like mine very citrusy. Gabriela's was our second choice, as our favorite Mex restaurant down the street was closed for lunch. Our party of eight enjoyed our visit. It was a beautiful day to sit on the patio and enjoy Marghies. We ordered a bit of everything for the table. The Choriqueso was a cheesy, gooey, delightful mess. The melted jack cheese with spicy chorizo, guacamole, and green sauce was a big hit. The handmade corn masa tortillas were a pleasant surprise. Another ordered the Veggie Queso Flameado version, which was equally good. The carne asada street tacos arrived with 5 overflowing tacos, each containing a generous amount of meat, avocado, onions, and cilantro. Service started a tad slow, but they rebounded very well, and we never lacked for drink or additional food--Great East Side alternative to our regular haunt on East 6th. First time visiting Gabriela's we stopped for a quick dinner before an event we had downtown with family. While I didn't like my torta a whole lot I was a big fan of my fiancés enchiladas. I asked for my torta to come with Jalapeños and the server forgot and the torta also did not come with mayo which was a let down but understandable I shouldn't have assumed. The drinks here are STRONG. Bartender doesn't mess around, happy about that. Everyone enjoyed the food. Second time we came around was last week. Ordered something different and liked it a lot more. The only downside and reason it's not getting 5 stars is the servers take forever to bring you the check. Both times they completely disappeared and took a while to pop back up so we could ask for a check. Other downside is having to pay for parking on top of the prices you're paying inside. Would definitely come more often if the parking wasn't an issue but I get it it's downtown Austin, pretty expected. read more

We stopped by for lunch on a Thursday. Place was empty, it's an older establishment so don't have high expectation when going. Our waiter was nice but didn't speak much English but that was not a big deal for us. We ordered the two torta that they have on their menu the brisket and the Cuban one. Both come with loads of show string fries, however they both lack some kind of sauce or condiment or something. They are on the dryer side. We also ordered size of coleslaw and wasn't impressed that for $4 they gave us a tinny little container like what you get at burger spots for ketchup or ranch. Overall we liked it we may go back for drinks and more food item if we are ever in the area. They did have a very loud Mexican music playing and the entire decor is very colorful. read more

This was my first time trying Gabriela's. For a Saturday the wait was not very long. We were seated within 20 minutes of arrival. It took a while before a server came by for drink orders. Not sure of our servers name but we didn't see her much. Which made dinner drag longer than it should . The corn lacked flavor and was kind of dry. There are no actual spicy salsas . Stopped by Gabriela's Downtown during a recent trip to Austin, and the food did not disappoint. Classic Tex-Mex done right--everything we ordered was flavorful and satisfying. The only hiccup was the service. We had a reservation through OpenTable for 12:30, but when we arrived, we were told they were still putting our table together... and ended up waiting about 45 minutes. Not ideal. Luckily, we grabbed seats at the bar and ordered a classic margarita--it was absolutely delicious and helped pass the time. Overall, even with the wait, I'd come back for the food and drinks alone. The vibes were fantastic at this super cute restaurant! We had a great post-marathon brunch here. It looks like a small house from the outside, and it is decorated with pretty feminine decor. The cocktails looked so good, so I definitely think this is a good Insta-worthy spot for a girls' brunch. There is a small pay parking lot next to the restaurant, but there is also free street parking in the area that you can look for. I had the papas con huevos, which were really good. I would have liked some sauce/salsa with it. The price was good too. The only downside to our experience was that the service was very slow towards the end. We got our orders and later our food in a timely fashion, but the process of getting the bill then getting the card back took a long time. Amazing. Very nice view from the outdoor patio, you can see the sunset off 35 from the Austin skyline. I went during national Tequila day and even though they were busy, the service was excellent. This place was so awesome! From the outside it looks like a club, but when you step inside it's this super cool, trendy, magical place! It looks very instagramable inside! There were vegan options! I got vegetable tacos with rice and beans (the beans had pork bits, so i just ate around it). The portions were huge! I was only able to eat half of my meal. It was delicious! The service was ok. Our waiter didn't visit often and never picked up any of our dirty dishes as we finished the meal. We don't live in Austin, but I'm not sure if we will come back in the future. We were lucky it was the only place open so late at night. I guess if we are in this situation again we will come back. read more

I had reservations for a Friday night. We had to wait a bit even with the reservation. The vibes are cool. Very Latino. The bathrooms are bad bunny and j balvin themed so that was cute. Me and my friend shared the margarita flight, avocado cream enchiladas, and I think what's called fried avocado. We only liked the strawberry and mangonada margaritas. The house and Paloma weren't great. The avocado cream enchiladas were so good. The fried avocado dish (I think that's the name of it) we got was also sooo good. I recommend both! I don't like to get chicken in Mexican dishes cus it's usually dry and/or plain. But both dishes had chicken and I got it them as is. To my surprise I wasn't disappointed. The chicken actually had flavor and wasn't dry. I'd come back for those dishes forsure. read more

Popped in for brunch on a Sunday morning in early December. We thought it might be chilly outside, so we initially picked a table inside. However, as we were being seated, the back patio vibe we noticed was more fun and bright, with several walls painted with fun murals - not to mention, they had heat lamps for the chilly weather, so we quickly requested to be moved outside. Service was okay, nothing terrible but not great. It took time to get the waiter's attention for anything, from the first visit and ordering drinks to questions about food and getting the check. The food was decent, again not great but not terrible. We got the queso flameado to share, very good but also heavy (it is a melted cheese dish, after all). While we waited I was able to enjoy the ambiance. There were cute neon signs everywhere and a ton of photo ops. Once we sat I ordered the cucumber agua fresca and it was so good that friends ordered, too. While we waited for our food we listened to great music from their DJ. The street tacos were delish! Went here for lunch while working downtown. Always such a wonderful place with lots of color and great music inside. The music is very loud so keep that in mind but they do have a wonderful backyard with outdoor seating. They were upgrading the front porch as well. Service is excellent and there are several options for you to choose from. I personally love a classic street taco and the five mini street tacos did not disappoint. The chicken mole taco was delicious on a wonderfully hand-made corn tortilla, as it should be, I will say I was missing mole sauce. I'm a sauce person so I definitely wanted more mole. Otherwise everything was delicious. The queso flamedo had salsa on top of it which I have never had the pleasure of enjoying and I very much enjoyed it. The aguas frescas as well look like a whole event the way they present it, absolutely stunning! I will be back and I'm very excited for my next adventure there. I've been here twice now with my friends and both times had a terrible experience. The first time there was a long wait list so we went to the bar to order a drink when the bartender told us he was "too busy" for us to order a drink from him. Second time I went we got a table and I had to stop someone after sitting there for 15+ minutes to order a drink and there were opossums running around the area we were sitting at in restaurant. Visited Gabriela's in Austin today for National Tequila Day, and despite the place being absolutely swamped, the service was solid. I got the puffed tacos and my friend and I split the choriqueso--both were really good. The flavors were spot-on, and everything came out hot and fresh. The staff managed the busy crowd well, and our server was attentive and friendly. The vibe is also great, very photogenic and with a great view.
