    Some ube ginger drink
    Jan W.

Mostly sours offered due to the whiskey and tequila mixes. Opted for a rum drink. Although they were out they made something similar. Service is spotty but was able to get indoor seating while waiting Cool ambiance and vibe

We arrived on a Saturday night around 9:45 without a reservation. Look for the green light in the alley. The hostess offered us standing room in the bar or to come back at 10:45 for a table- so we zipped around the corner to King Bee to kill an hour. We returned on time and was promptly sat- shout out to the hostess she was so nice. I ordered the tiki drink first, which was good but a little basic- tasted like a generic drink. However my second cocktail was amazing! It was the Japanese one with green tea and sake and like oil. It was crystal clear like water but then the taste exploded in your mouth- would order again! Overall cool concept and great vibes!

This was a pretty cool spot and we had to go around and knock on the door with usually a password to get in but we didn't have to do that. We had reservations for a party of 7. The music is kind of loud in the corner we were in but the vibes were cool and the decor were pretty. The toilet, toilet paper and so much of the bathroom was black so I had to turn the flashlight on my phone. Haha My bf and I both got the zero proof drinks: * THE WINK AND NOD - PEACH TEA, CINNAMON GRAPEFRUIT, LIME, GRENADINE $10 * OKONOMIYAKI - FERMENTED ROSEMARY & GARLIC HONEY, GINGER, LEMON, BASIL OIL $10 The okonomiyaki was soooo good that I had to get another one! Highly recommend!

What a cool speakeasy experience! The vibe is eclectic, romantic, and full of character. When we arrived, we rang the bell a few times and, unfortunately, had to wait about 10 minutes in the cold before someone answered the door. Once seated, there was another wait before our order was taken. We tried four different drinks: Mezcal Blossom, Mi Besos Ranchero, Similares Sour, and Jan 1, 2001 Tokyo. My favorite was the Jan 1, 2001 Tokyo. I'm not usually a whiskey drinker, but I was intrigued by the "milk-washed" whiskey, and it did not disappoint--it was incredibly smooth! The hint of matcha was a perfect touch. Despite the initial wait, I'd 100% come back here--it's a unique and memorable spot!

Super sexy vibes in here yall! It's dark and moody ambiance is so fun. The decor is so well done and on theme for Mexico City vibes. We sat at the bar and ordered two mezcal cocktails and loved them!! We got el kyoto and mezcal blossom - both fruity and mezcal based. The mezcal blossom had such amazing flavors and lightness and the kyoto was fruity with raspberry and lychee. Both incredible - service was great even tho bar was packed. A little small bar and seating area so definitely make reservations to avoid waiting for a spot!

Trona is a very fun and eclectic speakeasy. I was in a group of 4 around 5 pm when the place had just opened up on a Saturday and were seated immediately. The bartender was so kind to make us tasting flights of the drinks we were curious about so we could taste before we place the order. We ended up getting the actual drink from the sampler because the drinks are THAT good. The art of these drinks was so cool and unique. It's nothing like I've ever tasted before. I also loved the ambiance, the music and the vibe of the place. Would 1000% recommend visiting here for the drinks and the vibes.

What an incredibly magical speakeasy in the heart of my neighborhood. Just a hop, skip, and a jump away to a true adult wonderland. In true speakeasy style, a passcode is provided to you just before your visit. Access is secured and you must follow the entry rules. Once inside it's truly like a dream come true. Mexican & Japanese worlds fuse together starting with the interior design and vibe. From the windows, seating, bar, and decor to the drinks and service. It's above four-star service. The drinks are true works of art served in a glass. Each sip taking you into another realm with flavor, design, and a real mastering of the cocktail. Signature and classic cocktails with a twist on fragrant tastes and zests.

Great place for upscale drinks. We were able to get a reservation on the patio for a Saturday night. The patio is very nice and it basically feels like you're indoors. I peeked my head into the bar, and the vibes were very dark and moody. I actually prefer sitting outside because it was easier for me and my partner to talk. We ordered five drinks total. From most to least favorite, we ordered the El Chepe, Fujiyama Mama, Odori Negroni, Oaxacan Ol' Fash, and River Daughter. The bottom two on our list were still good, but they felt less complex or unique than the other. The Odori Negroni was nice and smooth with a slight sweetness from the prickly pear gin. Definitely one of my favorite Negronis I've had. The Fujiyama is for people who don't want to taste alcohol in their drink. It is sweet, fruity, and tropical, and I loved the ube foam on top. The El Chepe was both of our favorites. It was on the sweeter side with the pineapple, but the pepper and cilantro added interesting layers of spice and herbal notes. Every sip was delicious. The service wasn't the most attentive because we were outside, but that just allowed us to chat and stay longer. There is also free parking in the lot nearby.

Aesthetic cocktail lounge in East Austin, but very limited seating and the inside definitely feels crammed. Not a bad place to try once but nothing special on the cocktail menu + no food or light bites offered besides olives

I was afraid this would be another trendy spot with overpriced cocktails- but I found out I'm paying for the amazing quality they provided. The cocktails were fantastic. We tried three different cocktails during our date night. The Coco Frida was refreshing and minty, the Wakata- which was my favorite- was a twist on an Old Fashioned with chocolate bitters, and the Uruapan Expreso was delicious and arrived to the table with a fancy presentation. You definitely have to have a reservation, which can be hard to come by, if you visit W-S. Monday/Tuesday they allow walk-ins. This is a small space with limited seating. The employees were incredibly kind and different bartenders even stopped by the table to ask about our drinks and to check-in. We found everyone to be very friendly. We had a great night here! FYI- there is no food, just cocktails, so pair this spot with a restaurant for the perfect date night.

I cannot help but gush at Trona after 2 visits. I love a good cocktail bar, but there's lots of good cocktail bars in Austin. What are there not a lot of? AMAZING staff. Plenty of other bars have friendly staff that have done a great job, obviously. But something's different at Trona. Somehow the staff has made me feel like part of the family. The owner Tatanka is great and he's assembled an all-star lineup of bartenders and servers that really make it a 5* experience. This is one of the rare times "I'd give it 6* if I could." I posted a handful of photos of drinks I've had there, but for me the experience is what brings me back. Cocktails are great, clearly. Welcome to the neighborhood, Trona, hope you're here for a long time.

A cute speakeasy-esque bar by Skinny's! My husband and I made a reservation for a Friday afternoon around 6pm. We sat on the patio, which was well lit with lots of plants. There weren't that many people around to be honest. It's a great spot if you want to have a drink and a good conversation. The staff are super chill and can help you find the right drink for your palate. We had to try the two drinks that involved fire - Urupan Ezpreso and the Rattle Snake Sour. The Urupan Ezpreso was FANTASTIC. Like a carajillo but so much better. The Rattle Snake Sour was surprisingly good. You can barely taste the bourbon - more like a lightly sweetened punch. Will come back to try their other cocktails.

At the end of the night, we were presented with an additional $80 bill. When we questioned this, the manager explained that the prepaid "pairings" were actually just small pieces of truffle chocolate meant to accompany drinks, and that the prepaid price was for the chocolate and "access" to the Valentine's Day menu -- not the drinks themselves. None of this was clearly explained upfront, and the wording of "2 pairings" is misleading. An hour ago it wasn't raining, but now it's pouring. A few months ago, I heard of a newer bar and experience called Equipment Room just right off of South Congress. Music means everything to me. Nothing can express emotions and instill a feeling in 3 minutes like a song can. I live for that. Equipment Room is inherently Japanese in concept. Existing in Japan for over 50 years, listening bars combine high fidelity audio equipment with impressively crafted cocktails and alcohol combining the passion of music in a space to gather with comfortable chairs and a beautiful atmosphere. The concept has expanded westward as all cool things inevitably do, but I would never think a spot would be successful in Austin like it would be in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and so on. As I back my car into a parking spot on South Congress, I grab the umbrella out of my trunk and walk my girlfriend and me to the entrance trying to not get ourselves soaked in the process. This is not the first time we have tried to go to Equipment Room. We tried to get a walk-in table just to see out of morbid curiosity and that was a failure. I booked her and me a table for this night and I was madly looking forward to it. As we got to the small entrance, we were introduced to the hostess who brought us from the stairs into the main underground space and to our seats on the couch in a large wraparound sofa with other parties sitting near us. The music is faint from the entrance, but once you walk through the main walkway, a wave of sound hits your eardrums. You're immediately engrossed into the music like walking into a concert hall or putting a fresh pair of headphones on for the first time. As we sat down, selections from Outkast's Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik were playing through the speakers. Our hostess introduced us to their "User Manual" (their menu) where it contained all the snacks and drinks you could get your grubby hands on. There's more than just drinks and food on the menu. The first page introduces the concept and gives a few house rules. The second page shows all the equipment this so-called room has, from the premium Klipsch speakers, their preamps and amplifiers as well as their turntables and mixers. It's a dream page for music nerds. I want a $15k speaker in my apartment, but those noise complaints would never end. Our waitress came by shortly to give us water and take our order. Their menu is quite expansive, but the main pages we were told to check out were their A-side drinks or the classics and their B-side drinks, which are more experimental. We had to go with experimental for starters because who knows when you'll get to try something similar again. I started with a Goca Dünya while my girlfriend ordered a Deceptacon. The Goca Dünya was a vodka based floral drink with pistachio foam and Amaro Nonino, an Italian herbal liqueur. The Deceptacon was a rum-based cacao drink with a touch of lime and mint. It took a little time for our drinks to come out, clearly, as they are quite intricate. I loved my drink, bluntly. The pistachio foam was a great balance to the herbal flavors at the bottom. My girlfriend and I continued to enjoy each other's company as the music continued. The space we were in was decorated with posters and memorabilia from legendary artists coming through Austin and some general music decor like that purple album from that Prince guy. The DJ-curator that night was on a tear playing incredible soul music holding the bar hostage with a taste of funk. Jimmy Smith came next before transitioning to a few tracks from Bobbie Gentry. The last albums he pulled out were Steely Dan's Aja (a stone cold classic) and Stevie Wonder's Songs in the Key of Life (a top 10 album of all time). Not only was he playing classics like Isn't She Lovely, but he threw down some deeper cuts like Black Man and Contusion. Incredible. We both got another drink with my girlfriend getting their A-Side Espresso Martini while I got the Brown Sugar from their B-Sides. It was a seaweed and mushroom infused whiskey with a few more bells and whistles and it was super unique. Quite a bit of their menu is Japanese-inspired in homage to the originators of listening bars. This includes Japanese beer, sake, and Japanese-inspired food and beverages on their menu. Very cool. The worst part of the night came when our hour and 45 minute reservation came to a close. I could've stayed there for another 3 hours and never grown tired, but with how popular this space has become, they gotta kick you out at some point. This is an experience you have to have. It's worth it. I'll be strolling back in soon enough because there is nothing like this in Austin and it's truly a special space. RIYL: Actively listening to music.

They play no digital music and their speakers are installed throughout the whole building. The sound is great! The menu was so cute and on theme. The furniture and decor is mid century modern. I went here for my birthday and they gave my table a round of Sake shots, which was nice! My table ordered drinks: the Brown Sugar, Goca Dünya, Suffer No Fool (non alcoholic), Vitamin C. They were all delicious and they did not skimp on the alcohol! It was well balanced! I seriously recommend the Goca Dünya--that pistachio foam was addictive! For food, we got the Cheese board to have something to pick on and we demolished it, haha. It came with marmalade and crackers. The cheeses were great, along with the dried fruits and nuts. The cheese selections seem to rotate every other season, which is cool.

(RIP Chuck Negron) This was my "Must go to" spot on the first day we were here...and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! I made a reservation per recommendation on their website and I am glad I did. As the evening went on it got very busy. The foyer where you check in reminded me of the lobby of a small theatre. There were 2 velveteen curtains separating it from the restaurant. When the curtains parted a huge room with high industrial ceilings and architecture was revealed. WOW!!!! The hostess led us upstairs to the smaller loft bar and told us to sit where ever we wanted...So, we sat with a review to the entire place! We ordered food and drinks from their huge cocktail menu. We watched the bartender make both drinks with fascination. *BTW The bartenders here need to know how to make every cocktail by heart and there are over 50 specialty cocktails! Rosie and I went with: Vodkadora - Wódka Vodka, raspberry syrup, ginger syrup, lime, soda water Cigar Box - Del Maguey Vida Mezcal, smoked black tea syrup, RR lavender bitters, tobacco essence, served on an ashtray with a flamed cinnamon stick Food: CLASSIC REUBEN w/chips - 5/5 sooo good (Rye bread with Rosemary-Garlic Butter, Corned Beef, Swiss Cheese, housemade Sauerkraut & Russian Dressing) SALADE VERTE 5/5 - light and fresh Loved the industrial space and decor. Great for large groups - don't really recommend for children ~ and that's all I have to say about that...

It had the ambience and gravity of a serious establishment with well knowledgeable staffs, clean decoration with depth. We loved the ambiance and cool interior away from Texas heat. The food and drinks were crafted with meaning, focus and quality ingredients that really justified the price they had set. We ordered their garlic hummus, seasoned nuts and whole bunch of appetizers I don't recall all, but everything stood out. Talking about cocktails- The bartened was extraordinary. We had French 75, Cosmopolitan, Old fashioned, Espresso Martini, El Presidente. In a group of 5 people, we definitely ordered multiple rounds of each. I tried their signature drink called Painkiller (about $20) and also another with blended 12 yr old blended scotch . Left sufficiently satisfied and I will visit this place again in Austin for drinks and some bar bites.

One of the most attractive performing spaces in Austin…read more If they happen to be booking music that you like, you are made in the shade. * The club is on three levels. The Ground Floor: A larger than usual performance space. Larger than usual because it takes up the entire footprint of the building with no space set aside for seating. If you want to dance or they are packing them in SRO, the square footage is there. Okay - it is not as big as the Concourse Project which has an entire South-of the-Airport Industrial Warehouse to work with. But for downtown, it is huge. * The Mezzanine - This is one place to go if you want to sit down. The space is divided between a) a set of large leather chairs with a pool table in the middle. The pool table area is on an open balcony that lets you hear or even watch the bands from on high. There is a bench with stools right on the balcony edge for semi-comfortable listening to the band below. If I am listening to the music, I will take the leather chairs rather than a stool. Ever try boogie-ing on a stool? Ever get transported to a higher place by the mystic beauty of what you are hearing on a stool? Slapstick moments await. However, it is hard to argue with a leather chair for big time listening. b) the Mezzanine bar with and a bunch of chairs and benches near a bowling alley. ?!?!? on the Bowling Alley. The Great Lebowski never had it so good. If you push the matter, the bar might even be able to make you a White Russian. * The Roof - which has one of the nicest and most comfortable roof sitting areas in Austin. There are places with nicer roof views, but not very many places with as much seating and as much comfortable seating. And yes there is a music stage if management decides they want to mix things up soundwise. Mostly though, this is a perfect place to rest your tootsies if standing listening to bands has become too much for you. It is also the perfect safety place if the band downstairs stinks so much, you need two floors of real estate between you and the abomination on stage. * I can't speak for the quality of the bar. I was here for a German government sponsored SXSW showcase - in this case of all Berlin DJs. Berlin DJs are up there with Ibiza DJs for being the best that electronic dance music has to offer. (That night however, an unknown Austin girl filled in for a missing act - and held her own with the best of Berlin. Suxxy Puxxy. Keep your eyes out for her if you like to dance.) The German government was offering free drinks as part of the motivation for you to come in to German Haus and hear free music. No exotic hard to get German beverages but I was pleased to take the normal stuff they were offering. So how good the bar is or how good the musicians they book are are TBD. * * * I generally find the Mohawk is a hard standard to beat ... So it is hard to get me to shift to other clubs. Still the space offered by the Speakeasy is extremely appealing. It would not take much for me to make an excuse to come back.

This last visit we were on the main floor watching the live band and the vocalist was SO good. I think they went by the Souvenirs. There were good vibes and lots of dancing and singing.
