The server was kind enough to do split checks upon request. Everyone enjoyed their dishes, so the food is good overall. Our group was split into 2 tables, which is okay, but 1 table was served way before the other table, so some of our group was done eating by the time others got their food. We decided to grab a quick bite in between the panels. We heard this place was really good so we decided to give it a shot. Off the first impression, the place looked really nice with several bar areas to quickly grab a seat. However, if waiting for a table it could take some time. So, look for the bar areas and the couches surrounding the bar outside are first come first serve, as well. We grabbed a couch and they quickly came over to clean our table. It was a beautiful day out and the patio area we were sitting at was great so everything seemed perfect. Service was good and our waitress was awesome. We quickly ordered the red snapper ceviche, the brunch burger and the Caesar salad with chicken. The red snapper ceviche was the hit and the fries were very good. Great spot for breakfast and brunch! There are plenty of options for both vegetarians and meat eaters, and the avocado toast is delicious. I do wish they offered more gluten-free choices--and that those options were easier to spot on the menu. Parking can be a challenge unless you're willing to pay, which adds up. My wife and I had brunch here yesterday. Not sure if it was because of the Austin marathon, but it was super busy. Thankfully, we had reservations and were seated right away. The restaurant decor is very nice. Very big restaurant, but everything was modern looking and clean. The service was only so-so. Everything just took longer than needed (to order, to get a refill on water, etc.). Seemed like it was more a case of inefficiency than being so busy. Would require multiple asks to get something and I think the server just kept forgetting. He was serving one section but would check on one table then run around, come back for another table, run around, instead of checking in on the section and getting multiple things done in one round. The food was good. I had the Chicken Fried Chicken (4.5/5) - Good, unique version of this dish. Well brined, lightly breaded chicken breast on top of a corns and gravy. Love the outdoor area here. It has such a good chill vibe and is perfect for brunch, daytime drinks on a Sunday, or even a night out at the bar. We sat inside, but if the weather was nice, there is plenty of space outside and a bar outside. We got our drinks ordered, which did take a minute to arrive, but it was a Friday night so I was not too worried. We came here on a weeknight and were able to get a table without reservations. Our server was kind and attentive, but the food was just okay. We ordered the spicy guacamole, the cornbread, chipotle honey salmon, shrimp and grits, and a couple of drinks. The frozen Froscato was a nice drink, but they were having problems with the machine that night so it came out a bit late and a little on the thicker side. The cornbread came in a small flat iron pan, making it pretty crispy and also dangerous since it was buttery and flaky. It was delicious. The guacamole was on the spicier side, and we weren't the biggest fan of those spices. The salmon had a lot of harsh flavors to it to the point where it was not enjoyable, since those flavors clashed. My partner liked his shrimp and grits. I had made reservations at Corner because my friend wanted to try this restaurant. I personally did not want to go here because I felt the food was over priced and the food didn't look great on the overly hyped reviews. But this is where my friend wanted to go to celebrate our friendship anniversary. First impression walking in, it seems to be targeting a "high end atmosphere" but people were wearing casual clothes. When checking in, the hosts seem to not able to find my reservations and keep asking for my name several times. I had to whip out my reservation screen shot to show him. Not the best first impression. Then we were seating right next to the entrance of the bath rooms and walk way of another entrance from the hotel to the restaurant. It was such a weird table placement and the table should not exist. Throughout our dining experience consisted of people wandering in and looking lost on where to go. The service here is terrible. We notice our waiter was the only one running many tables. If they were short staff I completely understand and a simple communication from our waiter about it would have helped but he simply was ignoring us for a good 15-20 minutes until our order was taken. When we asked about the menu, he didn't seem to know what drinks were offered and literally circle back about it after we finish our food. He was annoyed we didn't order drinks when he told us. We were full and that's a very late follow up. We ordered the "Wagyu" burger with their secret sauce.. let's say the secret sauce is nonexistent. Burger was juicy but under seasoned. Burger was bland and nothing special. For $$ for this burger, it felt like catfished. 1/5 the burger comes with fries and the fries were crispy. The poblano queso: 1/5 I did not know queso can taste not queso. It was not cheesy and frankly you can't really taste the cheese. It was the oddest thing. The poblano with diced and topped on the cheese but you can not taste it either. Both nonexistent. Do I recommend this place, no. Service is a thumbs down. And food is a thumbs down. Gotta be honest, was pleasantly surprised with this place. It's connected to the JW Marriott here in Austin. The burnt ends were delicious. The sauce on them is definitely different. We had a phenomenal experience at Corner located in the JW Marriott downtown. My friend and I went for brunch on her birthday weekend. The fritters were amazing!! So good and so glad we got them. They have a bunch sampler that's cool if you want to taste 3 different cocktails for the price of one! It includes the abracadabra (made with gin), an froscato (frozen moscato) and an espresso martini. The first two were my favorites. It was my first time tasting an espresso martini and probably won't rush and order another unless there's cream and I add sugar or Splenda to it. They offer a cold pressed juice each day too and my friend loved hers so much she got two! It was made with ingredients like apple, orange, ginger, turmeric etc. Can't go to Texas and NOT order tacos or the smoked brisket if offered, so I also had the brisket tacos. They are made with the spicy guacamole, Chipotle aioli and pickled onions. The meat is well done. Served in a set of 3, I enjoyed them but know that they are filling! Our server was a sweetheart. She even brought out balloons once we told her it was my friend's birthday. She had some decent pull and was attentive, not annoying but always accommodating and trying to make our experience pleasant by listening to our needs and delivering what we want. Visited Corner Restaurant on a Saturday evening for a double date and really enjoyed the experience. The atmosphere was chill and comfortable, and our waiter was super knowledgeable about the menu. Really enjoyed corner. They have such an eclectic menu for American food and in a very posh part of Austin they're inside the Marriott. I found their Moscow mules really good. My husband and I made reservations here for Christmas dinner and it did not disappoint. Corner is part of the JW Mariott hotel. They have plenty of outdoor seating and their outdoor patio is dog friendly which is a plus. There were several dogs sitting on the patio. We ordered the cornbread skillet as an appetizer and it did not disappoint. The cornbread was moist with a good flavorful kick to it due to the jalapeños. For entrees I had the corner house salad with chicken and my fiancé had the the grilled prime prime flat iron. The salad was delicious and portion sizes were huge. My husband really enjoyed his meal as well. The only thing I didn't like was that our waiter was pretty much MIA the whole time. We were seated for 15 minutes before someone brought us water or even acknowledged us and the service was just very slow but it could be due to the fact that we did dine here on Christmas Day and they did seem a little understaffed. Service was good, they were attentive. 1 star less because when I ordered the ceviche the waiter said 'do you want chips with that', and I said 'Sure' assuming I'd get a few chips to scoop up the seafood with. On the day we went to this restaurant Texas was playing Michigan so they were a lot of people eating , drinking and watching the game . This restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. We opted to sit inside . The restaurant is pretty large so it fits more than enough people . If I had to guess I would say 300. Now we were seated right away . The menu at the time catered to brunch . I opted for the tacos which were delicious. The sides are ordered separately so I stuck with the tacos .We also ordered the burger which was also really good and that came with a side of fries . The manager Sergio was very kind and midway through our meal he informed us on all the items of the menu . And upcoming events the corner has lined up . Let me tell you if you can please pass by for their taco Tuesday . It sounded like something you can't miss . This restaurant was a great lunch choice . Eat fast and do productive things for the rest of the day. Kind of a waste of a good opportunity. * * * Marriotts and Omnis are the two hotel chains I think about when I think about good food. Of course there are many spectacular five star hotels with food to die for who are technically owned by corporate chains. They keep their classic high prestige name so as to obscure the ownership issue. Marriotts wear who owns them on their sleeve. * * * The Corner at J W Marriotts on 2nd Street is a typical high end Marriott property. The real estate is gorgeous. I love the lobby. I love the interior of the Corner. The other restaurant at the 2nd St J W Marriotts is an Italian steakhouse that looks like an empty excuse to spend money. The steaks might be okay but the prices are mindboggling. The Corner is only slightly on the high side and delivers value for the money. I did the Chicken Chili - an absolutely first rate white chili. It hit just the right spot of being spicy enough to immediately command my attention but not being so combative as to put up a fight going down. It was aggressive and comforting at the same time. I love being comforted. Had I been drinking, there are any number of beers or whiskeys that would have made a first rate accompaniment. Well ... maybe next time. read more

The burger was pretty average, just a simple double patty. The cornbread was slightly burnt on top but still soft and fluffy, with pieces of corn mixed in--not my preference, but it didn't ruin the dish. The highlight was the frozen horchata.
