It was definitely good and had a unique flavor, but it didn't fully win me over. I enjoyed trying it, but it's probably not something I'd order again. The guava matcha, on the other hand, was incredible. Easily one of the best matchas I've ever had. The flavor was perfectly balanced, not too earthy, smooth, and just the right amount of sweetness. Exactly how I like my matcha. Overall, such a fun spot to try creative drinks. I'd absolutely come back for the matcha alone! This year it was still good but didn't have that super flaky crunchy top. Still recommend! I've only had the plain. Guava next maybe? And yes, the line is always "long" but they move very quickly. Went to the Desnudo Coffee trailer located in the Fareground Food Hall. Desnudo is known for serving 100% farm-to-trailer coffee that comes from small farms in Colombia. The line is always long at this location and I wanted to find out what this was all about. The line moves fairly quickly. I placed my order and was able to pay with Apple Pay. My order was prepared quickly considering the length of the line. I ended up ordering a signature matcha, the la guayaba, a uji matcha, topped with a mascarpone guava cold foam and fresh guava puree. I got it with regular 2% milk and it was so creamy and flavorful with the sweetness of the guava balancing out the earthiness of the matcha. The food truck is a a cute little trailer that seems like more of a stand instead of a full cafe. However, there is plenty of outdoor seating at the Fareground for a gorgeous outdoor experience. Came here around 11am on a Friday and there were probably 20-30 people already in line, which looked a little intimidating at first. But the line moved surprisingly fast -- we waited maybe 10 minutes before ordering. It was also during SXSW, so the whole area was packed with people. The seating area is actually really nice. There's a courtyard with several tables and also a second-floor seating area. We ended up sitting upstairs, which gives you a slightly elevated view of the street -- fun for people watching during such a busy weekend. A few tables were a little dirty, which could probably be cleaned more frequently, but overall the space was pleasant. Service was excellent. The person taking orders was smiling the whole time and chatted with us a bit, and the person handing out the drinks was also super friendly. The vibe felt very relaxed despite the crowd. I ordered the Shoyu Butterscotch Latte. According to the menu, it's made with house-made butterscotch, balanced with a two-stage fermented shoyu, and paired with an Amarena cherry. The flavor was really interesting -- a sweet and savory combination that wasn't overly sugary. It had a caramel-like richness, with a subtle umami finish (probably from the shoyu). Smooth and surprisingly balanced. Yes, the specialty drinks are a bit pricey, but the flavors are unique and well executed. I finally got the chance to visit the downtown location of Desnudo to try the hyped up breakfast sandwich. The iced La Guayaba matcha was delicious but probably not the best choice given the 40°F weather but I have no regrets. It was different from any other matcha I have ever had and I definitely recommend it. Just beware it contains dairy if you are lactose intolerant. The breakfast sando lived up to the hype and had a nice kick which warded off the cold weather. In a genius move on my end, I placed my order online and just went to the pickup window to check in. This definitely saved a lot of time since the line to order was around 40 people deep and going down the steps of the park. My drink order was ready in about 5 minutes and my sandwich order was ready in less than 10 minutes. I loved the homemade bun. It's not very big so it's probably a little pricey for its size but it was the perfect amount of food for me - Brown Sugar Miso (4.5/5): I asked for 50% sugar and only 2 shots instead of their standard 3. I think half sugar is definitely the way to go, regular sweetness would have been way too sweet. Only thing is I would recommend asking for less ice. I'm a die hard lover of Desnudo - like this entire city! This was my first experience at the Downtown location. When we arrived, the line was quite long but this is deceiving because it moves fast (10-15 mins from end to front)! They definitely have a successful service/hospitality system going on. Staff will offer free samples of their in-house cold brew while you're in line, and there's also a YETI water cooler at the front near the order register (but you have to dig for it - otherwise you'll end up waiting for the bar to give you water cups). They are super proud of their coffee & Colombian producers. And they deserve to, because it's genuinely that good! I decided to try the boggy berry latte, which I've heard is a popular weekend limited-edition special. My date got the cold brew, which I also sipped more of. This is my first time visiting the location downtown and I went on a saturday afternoon so there was a bit of a line but it moves very quickly! The staff also mentioned that they have validated parking during saturday and sunday which makes it very easy to park, since they're located between buildings. I got the White Vanilla Miso and it's recommended with an orange blossom syrup. I loved it!!! The orange is very subtle but the drink just reminds me of summer. This place is about as Austin as it gets: Great product being served from the tiniest of trailers. Situated in the Congress Avenue Historic District and a stones throw from the river, it's a nice location to grab a coffee and enjoy the passersby. Walking up on a chilly Friday morning finds the trailer situated adjacent to a detached counter with a lovely Colombian lady taking orders and offering bags of coffee for sale. I chatted with her for a moment, sharing my experience with travel to Colombia years ago and asking more about their coffees. I ordered an espresso made with their bespoke espresso blend, and my wife ordered a cappuccino. I also purchased a bag of a washed Colombian coffee for later. Our order was delivered by the baristas in the trailer with a smile, and we seated ourselves at the nearby tables. Although definitely a bit cold for us Texans, we opted for this instead of heading back to our car, and I'm glad we did. The espresso was absolutely incredible, with strong fruity notes, great body, and a mild acidity that really danced on the tongue. One of the best I've had in a while. The cappuccino was equally delicious, with the milk bringing out the flavors of the coffee, if not quite as intense (of course) as the espresso. Later in our hotel room, I cracked open the bag and made a V60 pourover. The delightful "hostess" confirmed that the coffee was about ten days off roast, which, for a light roast, is probably near the earliest one would want to use it, but it paid off with an incredibly fruit forward and light cup, a wonderful drink indeed. Desnudo has really high quality coffee and creative drinks. I've been twice, once in the winter and once in the summer. There wasn't much of a wait at all in the winter, but I think that's because it was pretty cold when we were here. I've tried to go multiple times over the summer (weekdays and weekends) and the line is equally long each time. I recently decided to wait for it, and it was just as good as I remember. The white vanilla miso was creamy with a touch of sweetness - I'm not a big fan of super sweet coffee beverages so this was perfect. The staff here is also lovely - they were handing out free samples while we waited in line, and they always make an effort to get to know you while you're ordering.
