Barrett has a lot going for it, but I stopped going because the parking and accessibility situation became too much of a hassle. The coffee shop itself is good. Nice space, good mix of seating, wifi, local feel, and friendly staff. Their seasonal drinks were usually fun, the bottled horchata cold brew was great when they actually had it, and buying a quart of regular cold brew was convenient. I also remember them being one of the first places around here doing nitro cold brew. No pour overs, but the drip was solid enough when you wanted something hot. I still own a couple of their t-shirts, so clearly I liked the place. The issue is getting there. The lot is small, uneven, and full of bumps, rocks, and holes, which is not easy when you use a cane. They used to have a handicap space, but the line faded and the sign disappeared. I would drive by hoping for parking, but that intersection is not one I want to circle around more than once. Even going with my husband, it could still be awkward to get in from some spots. For me, it just stopped being worth the effort. These days I usually go to Dog Days instead. I think I stood in line for 30 minutes to grab a coffee. I was especially intrigued by their toasted sesame latte. It had real sesame grounds and sesame flavoring to bring out the nutty notes. I passed by here many times and there are always people here even though the outside did not look like much but I finally decided to stop in. The coffee here is good and the pastries even better. The staff here were really nice, so nice we got extra cool duck stickers that came the cups. The seating inside can get a bit full. outside is a better choice. You basically have to make your own parking spot here because it's not straight forward. Don't expect to fit your 6 speed double baby stroller through these doors. Ooh this coffee is GOOD! We stopped here early morning for lattes before heading somewhere nearby after. The parking lot is very uneven and a really makeshift lot. It was complicated getting in and out, but once in the shop, we had a great experience. I tried the toasted sesame latte and it was nutty, savory, and creamy. It was not sweet at all which I was happy about. We also enjoyed an almond Swedish bun. Delicious! They had great specialty drinks to choose from and a variety of pastries. I came into Barrett's on a weekday afternoon and left disappointed. I got a drink to-go, and the service was fast. The inside of the cafe is cute and seems like a good place to chill or get some work done. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy my drink. I ordered an iced black sesame latte with oat milk. The espresso must have been brewed incorrectly or something because my latte had a really off-putting sour taste. I also couldn't taste any of the black sesame syrup, probably due to the overpowering sour espresso. Hopefully, this was just a rare mistake. Came back more than a year later and their drinks are still sublar, at least their lattes and matchas are. At this point I have tried enough coffee shops in Austin, probably 30+ or so. My matcha was 5/10, too much matcha powder that I was tasting on my first sip. The milk was overly frothy and not smooth like how a latte should be. I had a ham and cheese breakfast taco which was bland 6/10. Got their raisin scones that tasted stale and old 2/10. Their cookies look better and taste fine 7/10 Staff was not really friendly, and doesnt seem like they care so much about the clients or the service. This coffee shop is a bit out of my way but when I saw Sesame iced latte on the menu? Say less, I love sesame! I got the iced version, half sweet, regular milk. It tastes smooth and not too sweet but unfortunately there is very little sesame flavor. Maybe I need to get full sweet instead in order to taste it? One of my favorite local coffee shops in the city and they have some of the smoothest cold brew in the game. The shop is tucked away within a building with some amazing murals and a cute little outdoor patio. With plenty of natural lighting you can take a seat around the shop or head towards the back with community tables. I recommend adding a splash of one of their house-made syrups to really level up your coffee game. The staff here is really sweet and they always make you feel so welcomed. While you're working away on your laptop or reading a book, make sure to enjoy the wall mural in the bathroom. Located conveniently off of North Lamar, this coffee shop is older and has character (beware that the parking lot is pretty terrible...). It's spacious and the service is wonderful inside. They have a straight forward menu with your classic coffee shop offerings, plus a couple of house specialty lattes and tacos and pastries. I opted for their popular chocolate orange blossom latte, iced and with oat milk. It was delicious and definitely lives up to the hype! Also for only $5.25, an absolute steal in this city. I also tried one of their pastries, which was nothing special. The chocolate croissant was just okay, and probably would have been better warmed up. But it wasn't terrible.
