As a first-time visitor to Manny's on 5th Street, I was immediately charmed by its unique atmosphere. Manny's served as the meeting point for guests attending the murder mystery event at The Power Room. The cozy yet small indoor and patio bar had lush greenery that created a rainforest-like effect, making it an ideal place to wait. The ambiance was low-key, warm, and welcoming, providing the perfect setting to exhale before the murder mystery show. Interestingly, the bar area eclipses the small area as its focal point. While the menu is limited, I enjoyed a light snack and soaked in this cozy environment, which was a pleasant start to the evening. Fortunately, I knabbed free parking in the next block. After 6 pm on Mondays downtown Austin, parking is free when using ATX Parking. This is major good news as some folks avoid downtown Austin due to parking challenges. read more

My boyfriend took me here after trying it once already a previous weekend. The Powder Room speakeasy is located in the back of this establishment, so I look forward to exploring that someday! The decor is minimalist but cozy. The menu is small but we heard they're going to start serving coffee & coffee drinks soon. I got the schnitzel sandwich and it was delicious. Solid place for sandwiches downtown. I tried the ceviche, pan con bistec sandwich, and puff puff guava cocktail. The sandwich was good, and I enjoyed the cocktail. The ceviche was on the sweeter side. I would probably pass on it next time, but it's a matter of preference. There isn't a whole lot of seating, but the decorations are great. The servers were all very nice, but my party had a lot of issues with the food service. Some people waited a really long time for their food. Also, they seemed to be out of like half their items before noon. I will be back to try more food and check out the speakeasy in the back. read more

This place is great! You can park across from the Roosevelt and just cross the street to Mannys. It's a tiny spot but it's almost Halloween and the weather is a little drier and cooler so it was great to sit outside for a bit. These sandwiches were top tier. There was literally a cook and Server but he was great, super nice and hospitable and everything tasted amazing and exceeded my expectations. The sub rolls were warm and toasty, the grilled chicken thighs were carmelized and richly flavored. The carrot sauce on the Sammie was FIRE. There was some acid from pickled veggies and crunch from the slaw. Just do it. My friend had the Cuban which would give any rival from Miami FL a run for its money. First time to Manny's today. Had the bahn mi. The bread was perfectly toasted and soft. While it didn't appear to be very big, it had plenty veggies and chicken to make for a full lunch. I didn't turn around the menu to see they have a $5 side salad, which I would have jumped on. Haven't had a first strike sandwich success like this in a while. The prices were pretty reasonable for being downtown. They have limited indoor seating. read more

Thoroughly impressed. Yes it's expensive but what isn't now? With that in mind I had very high standards that were met. The server was an absolute delight. He was so welcoming. He went out of his way to make our experience perfect. The sandwiches were hefty. I got the cubano and there was so much meat pressed in there, it was flavorful the pickles were zingy and fresh. I don't know if I describe in words what a cool spot this is. and honestly I would would end the review here to keep the mystery, but I'm going to give it my best shot to do it justice... Manny's is the front and marketed concept of this space. It's a super cool and vibey sandwich shop, Think Miami vibes and they offer a great line up of made-to-order sando's and cookies. I wish I had been able to order from Manny's directly, but we were not there for Manny's, we were there for the Powder Room. Their speakeasy, which truly lived up to the word in every way. Upon entry they take all party members phones and lock them up and hand you the key. They then take you to through a swanky hallway to your table. The space is absolutely gorgeous, think sexy 70's in the best way! From velvet, warm wood tones, low lighting, comfortable seating and a life size leopard in the middle of the bar (I think leopard, I am sorry I am not totally familiar with my big cats!). This was the type of place, the moment I sat down you could not have told me I wasn't "cool", I felt cool just being there! It was a complete vibe in the best way and the escape of my phone made it even more magical. You were forced to be in the moment and it could have been one hour or three, I couldn't have told you, but I didn't care because I was at Powder Room. The cocktail menu was styled in a retro magazine/coffee table book and was super fun. It had your drink horoscope, line up of cocktails with tasting notes and also mocktails and light snacks. I started with the "No one gets out of here alive", which was also the Aries beverage of choice. It's sort of a savory marg with red bell pepper and spice. It was nice and a greater starter. i then went into a mezcal old fashioned per the hostess rec and it was fabulous in every way... We of course needed a sweat treat and got their Nutella cookie which was warmed and delivered to order, messy and delicious, just how I like it! The experience and space is just something you need to experience for yourself. It's somewhere I cannot wait to return to and will highly recommend to all my friends, family and fellow Yelpers to check out. From the service, atmosphere, and beverages it's a 5/5. New spot downtown launched its soft opening this week through April 25. Cute and casual chic outdoor décor. Pleasant service as we (colleagues) were greeted by the owner, Jason, while we browsed the menu. I ordered the BLT sandwich and opted for the side of kettle chips. The sandwich was delicious and the portion was generous. Menu prices are reasonable considering the location. Street parking is available, but I prefer to park in the Chase garage that is right across the street. I landed on ordering the Birria ($14) and their Lemonade ($4), and had a few takeaways! While the sandwich was decent, I believe the bread could've been a lot less soggy, and more flavor could've been added (it was a bit bland unfortunately). The consume also lacked flavor, but overall the food was presented well. On the other hand, the service was amazing and the cashier informed me on the menu and gave me his recommendations. We absolutely loved this new(ish) Austin restaurant! The vibe from the street is so luscious and beachy that we stopped in for lunch on a weekday when we passed by. The decor is perfectly curated and makes you feel like you stepped into a sandwich shop in a beach town. The staff were helpful and gave good recommendations! They even gave us a tour of the no-phone speakeasy in the back while we waited for our sandwiches. The speakeasy is such a cool vibe and I love the idea of living in the moment without phones (although it was hard for my yelper self not to take a photo). Our sandwiches were great! They have gluten free bread available, and it was great too! I got the chicken salad sandwich and it was unique and had a slight kick to it. My friend got a classic turkey sandwich and loved that as well. They had refreshing aqua frescas too! Indoor and outdoor seating, with good fans and shade on the outdoor patio. We walked in and was immediately captivated by the atmosphere so many plants and beautiful views. Then after ordering, the owner came over and introduced himself, asking if we wanted to see something special. Following the owner, there is a speakeasy spot in the back! With beautiful lighting and an amazing selection of seating and calming music. That section wasn't open yet we were welcomed to look around. My lunch consisted of a Cubano and a grilled cheese. Manny's has potential. The outdoor area is beautiful. The customer service can be better. I might come back here and try a sandwich, but I'll give it some time. Today, we ordered the salmon tartine, and the tomato tartine. The salmon was better than the tomato, but I wouldn't order either again. We were the only people there, the music outside was too loud to hold conversation, and it took about 20 minutes for the tartines to arrive at our table. When they did arrive, they were in to-go containers even though we were eating at the restaurant. The salmon tartine had a nice amount of fresh smoked salmon, but was light on the cream cheese. Longest wait ever for a cubano sandwich. Took over 30 mins and when I went inside to ask about it, they had it sitting behind the counter COLD. Claimed it just came out although it was barely warm. As far as a Cuban sandwich goes it was ok, but definitely would not recommend based on the service. The guy behind the counter also f the need to apologize claiming they couldn't find me even though there are only 10 tables outside and I was the only person on the patio. I also stated 3 times when I paid that I was going to sit outside. The inside area is tiny as well so that excuse wasn't valid. read more

Tried Manny's for the first time today for lunch. Me and a friend both ordered the Spring Boll salad - which was 3 shrimp on a small bed of rice noodles with cucumber, red onion, and red pepper. Tasteless except for the heat of the peppers and severely underwhelming, especially for $16. The Frescas were fine. Disappointing overall since it's right across the street from our office. First off, l don't write many bad reviews, but for the price of these sandwiches, I felt I had to. I was so excited to hear we were getting a new sandwich shop just a few blocks from where we live so I decided to try Manny's for dinner. Staff: they were amazing. Friendly, helpful, inviting, chatty. Food: Trash. Crying tiger, which is described as "not for the faint of heart" on the menu, was dry and not very spicy. Got a side salad and received noodles with 5 slivers of cucumber, mint and sesame seeds (I was told it would be greens, but when they delivered they said this was "seasonal"). The "salad" was WAY spicier than the sandwich, so I put the cucumbers and dressing from the "salad" on the sandwich and it was edible. My biggest issue was the bread. It's like a Wonderbread version of a French baguette, loaded with cheap bread conditioner making it unnaturally soft. Would literally not go back b/c of that bread. Austin, please stop allowing these hospitality groups take over the restaurant industry without providing quality ingredients, please. read more

Excited for this new spot in the neighborhood! I've been here a few times now and it looks as though they are still dialing it in. The Italian is amazing, plus you get a lot of food for a reasonable price. I'm also a big fan of the chicken salad sandwich. All the sandwiches look as though they come with house made chips. The salads are some of the best salads I've had in Austin. The fruits and roots taste like a healthy fruity pebbles. Plus the patio is super cute. They even have large water bowls for my dog.
