My girlfriends and I were on a girls trip in Austin and we decided to stop here for brunch. It was such a hit, this restaurant is our vibe and I wish we had it back home. The restaurant itself is decorated so nice, it's picture perfect. I also really appreciate a restaurant committed to having options that are seed oil free, from local farms and also having options without refined sugar. Miranda was our server and she was so kind and attentive. She made sure we had a great experience and was a pleasure to talk to. To eat I ordered the classic breakfast and to drink I had the vanilla maca. I didn't love the vanilla maca, and I only blame myself for that. I have never had maca so I didn't know what to expect but the drink basically tasted like a chocolate protein shake. Which isn't bad but I wanted like more of a latte so that was on me. My meal however? Loved it. Everything was so flavorful and hit the spot exactly with what I wanted. I also really appreciate a salad with breakfast since this helps lower your glucose spike and so when a restaurant offers this I know they know true wellness!!! One ordered the cherry vanilla limeade and enjoyed it as well, but as an avid cherry hater I didn't try it...but if you like cherry she recommends it! I wanted to like this restaurant, but they made it hard to do. We started off with the guacamole. The pomegranate seeds on top were a nice touch, but man, this was flavorless. It was painfully boring. We had our 6-year-old, who is head of the Picky Eaters Society, so we ordered bread with butter. This 6-year-old, who eats bread on the daily, took one bite and wouldn't eat any more. We even get gluten-free bread regularly, and he eats it. The bread was fine, but don't expect flavor. By some miracle, they even made butter tasteless. I considered calling the Vatican to see if this was some holy, divine miracle, but my wife suggested maybe the main course would be better. We settled on the pesto pasta with chicken added for an additional fee. The pasta was good. Great texture, good flavor, and the combination of ingredients was good, but it's nothing original. It's pesto pasta. It's a classic. I appreciate the pomegranate seeds on the guacamole because it's original, it's clever, and it's different. We also ordered a special soda drink for our son, and it had a small black bug on top. I had them take it back and replace it. I kind of expected a "Listen, we apologize for the bug. PHENOMENAL FOOD! I was scared that everything would be bland and tasteless when I saw the gluten free, dairy free etc., but NOPE! I wrote The Well off a long time ago when I tried it for dinner and just didn't dig it. How wrong I was! I realized that the place has some of the healthiest and best tasting food in Downtown. Sure, you're paying the Downtown premium, but sometimes you just gotta. A $15 protein shake is kind of ridiculous, but damn is it good. Even though it was outside it still felt private. I ordered the salted caramel macchiato and the chicken pecan salad sandwich which came with an arugula salad. The coffee was ok. I was hoping to like the flavor more. But that could just be me as I don't drink coffee and when I do it's usually sugary coffee. This one is obviously healthy so that could be it. Went here for a Saturday lunch without a reservation and it was busy. We were able to sit at the bar easily and got great service. The place has a very cool esthetic. The food was amazing. I can't believe I haven't been here sooner!! The Well has been on my radar, but when I was attending a show at ACL Live during SXSW, this was the perfect opportunity. I was with a friend that is vegan and I suggested here for dinner. We looked at the menu and agreed to try it! We shared the Thai Lettuce Wraps V $15: local mushroom, organic, mint, organic wild grain trio, ginger, fresno and organic jalapeno, local gem lettuce, cashew. They were SO flavorful and delicious, however 4 small lettuce leaves were not enough. We asked for more and got 4 more small leaves, which they charged us $2 for. I do think that's a bit crazy. I would order this app again though! We each tried the Coconut Curry Squash for dinner- V $22 - local seasonal squash medley, seasonal bell pepper, heirloom cherry tomato, pepitas, sesame seeds, organic heirloom grain trio. I didn't know the grains would be so similar to the lettuce wraps, so next time I would get one or the other. I loved this curry though - WOW. It tasted like fall. So fresh and delicious. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable. I had a glass of garnacha and my friend had a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. My glass was $15 on the menu but I was charged $17 on my bill. Consequently, the prices are high- and most of the menu items it's additional high up charges for adding protein. The sourdough was $12 . But this is absolutely a case of paying for what you get This place was good enough that on my last trip to Austin I went back multiple times, and I prioritized going during last week's trip. It was pretty busy--lots of groups of friends, couples, and people just enjoying their Sunday--but the vibe was chill. We kicked things off with the roasted garlic hummus appetizer, which was vegan and seriously good. It came with crispy chickpeas, Aleppo pepper, charred lemon, and a drizzle of olive oil. The veggies they served with it were super fresh and crunchy, which was a nice balance to the creamy hummus. For my main, I had the Potato & Chorizo Hash, and it was a real winner. The chorizo (vegan, of course) was so flavorful, and the mix of sweet potato, kale, squash, and golden beets was really filling. The ginger pepper sauce tied it all together perfectly--it was hearty but still felt like a healthy choice. My boyfriend went with the Breakfast Tacos, which came with scrambled eggs, avocado, cilantro, salsa verde, and lime on organic corn tortillas. He was able to add bacon to them, and enjoyed them overall. Only downside? They were only serving the brunch menu when we went, so we couldn't try any of the dinner options. Got the burger from the HH menu (comes in a gluten free bun, part of their 'healthy' branding), and honestly--it tasted like... gluten‑free. Bland, dry, not enjoyable. And gluten free is NOT actually healthy, it just tastes bad. We also tried the chicken lettuce wraps (also from the HH menu), thinking they'd be flavorful--but they had zero seasoning. Just plain, sad chicken in lettuce. Lastly, I got the bone broth, which wasn't bad and actually is healthy (the main reason I got it). The sandwich and wrap were both delicious, and obviously similar. I preferred the sandwich over the wrap, my wife preferred the wrap. It's a win either way. The Beet Salad was a step above both of those in my book - fresh, light, tasty - easily could be a meal all by itself. The starring role in this meal was the Crispy Brussels. Only downside was the restaurant running out of the standard champagne used for the mimosa flights and wanting us to pay for the more expensive champagne instead.
