I visited with a colleague for a business dinner this evening, and we were both blown away at a perfect meal with perfect service by Lydia. Nice selection of wines by the Glass - I went for a crisp white from Greece and my colleague enjoyed Chianti. We opted for the lamb starter and wild grouper tagine. After we ordered, the GM Tarun informed us that he and the executive chef were not pleased with the grouper quality and offered a substitution of salmon. The dish was even better as the rich salmon (perfectly crisp skin) stood up nicely to the flavorful sauce, which was served over black forbidden rice. The lamb was wrapped in a well seasoned bread with seeds, a slightly spicy harissa and whipped feta. I would come back for that dish many times. They gifted us dumplings and a sticky toffee dessert which was very kind. Both were delicious. I don't think I have experienced better service anywhere in Austin. Will definitely come back for more business meetings and with friends in the future. read more

Some things were better than others. Stand out dishes were the cheese saganaki aka the flaming cheese. Big portion for it but doesn't give you enough bread. The happy hour potatos were great, They came out mostly crispy but curry flavor and the feta cheese were delish together. I loved the curry hummus, someone else really liked the walnut Muhammara all the flavors worked well together. Octopus was also good. My family of 5 came to the Peacock Grill for Father's day, and overall I would say it was a great meal, fun ambiance, and good service. Why one star off? We spent around $600 with tip and fees for 5 (mixed grill, two apps, two drinks each); and while the food was delicious the meats were luke warm not piping hot, our server while very friendly was not the best at giving suggestions (basically she said everything is good lol) and wasn't able to split the check 2/3 and 1/3 instead of 50/50 ("... I don't know how to do that"), and the cocktails while tasty didn't really feel special enough to be $21-25 each. It was a very enjoyable experience I just don't know that it lived up to the price tag. For that price I'm looking for exceptional not just very good. That being said the food was delicious! Pricey but pretty good portions. The server said the mixed grill was good for around 4 people, but with two apps it was actually a little too much food for the 5 of us. Mixed grill ($220): -Rosewood Wagyu Strip and Lamb Chops: tie between these two for the best dish; they were both juicy and tender and the sauces were delicious. Not served piping hot but they were so good I didn't really mind. -Harissa Marinated Beef Tenderloin: great flavor- a tad dry. -Spiced Lamb Kefta: also dry, I liked it best with the yogurt sauce. -Red Pepper Chicken Thigh: delicious, one of my fav kabobs. -Herb & Garlic Shrimp: tasty and not overcooked -Charred King Trumpet mushroom: loved the veggie option! they mushrooms were substantial and the sauce was great. -Crispy Shallot Hummus: very good- loved the crispy shallots in particular! -Manti Dumplings: top app- I would 100% order this again the dumplings were delicious and the sauce/yogurt on top of them was the best, we wiped up every drop with the pitas! -The pita bread was hot, fresh, and delicious and our service kept on offering more, so I don't know if they've changed their policy but my experience was not the same as reviews that said only one pita per person. We refused extra pitas 3 times I think! Cocktails- everything we tried was quite good, but again there wasn't the pizaz or just 'blown away by the flavor' to feel that the crazy price was totally justified. We tried: Spanish G&T (very refreshing- don't chew on the juniper berries lol), Banana Bread Old Fashioned (pretty good even for someone who doesn't much like whiskey!), Bonfire on a Beach (fun, smokey, love the harissa on the side), Peach Martini (teensy bit sweet for me but good). The manager stopped by a few times to check on us and our server was very attentive. She did give us good service its just for the high price I would expect some more detailed suggestions on drinks, being able to split the check other than 50/50 (or at least ask someone instead of just saying 'I don't know how'). It was friendly and enthusiastic service just not 'wow this truly is fine dining' service. Outside of the restaurant, parking is a bit of a pain but that is normal for down town. Some friends and I made early (5:30 pm) reservations for dinner at The Peacock on a Saturday night before heading to a show at the Moody down the street. A few other tables were seated when we arrived, and it was completely full by the time we left at 7 pm. Our waiter was nice and made some good recommendations regarding what to order, but was sort of slow in checking on us - his service was fine, but a bit lacking in my opinion. The food, on the other hand, was delicious. We ordered the crispy shallot hummus, Manti dumplings, shrimp kabob, and broccolini, which was more than enough for three to share. I enjoyed everything and will be bringing my husband back to try it, too. My only caveat is that if you don't like garlic, this is not the place for you. Lovely interiors, great vibe, the food (which was served by food runners) came out well paced and all the staff were very pleasant. The Peacock is an absolutely beautiful establishment. I would go just for the ambiance alone. It's a little dark/moody - great for date night or intimate gathering with friends. We got the Red Pepper Chicken Thigh Kebab and the Beef Short Rib Hummus. The chicken was cooked well - seasoned and moist. I appreciated the pickled veggies on the side. I don't see that often, but it was super tasty and complimented the meal. Ironically, the stand out for me was the tzatziki. It was very good. Some of the best I've had in a while! The hummus was just okay in my opinion. Nevertheless, I would still recommend for people to try it. The presentation was beautiful and your taste buds may be different than mine. We went there for dinner last night as a group of four, and overall, we had a very enjoyable experience. The food was excellent, and the restaurant had a great vibe and ambiance. It was a little louder than I personally prefer, but still quite bearable. Our waiter was outstanding and provided exceptional service throughout the evening. For appetizers, we ordered the Beef Short Rib Hummus and Cheese Saganaki. For our main courses, we had the Wild Grouper, two skewers of Herb & Garlic Gulf Shrimp, and the Charred Broccolini. Everything we ordered was delicious. Unfortunately, there was an issue with the leftovers that left me disappointed and concerned. We had a portion of the Wild Grouper remaining, along with four large shrimp on one of the skewers. A food runner/busser kindly offered to package the leftovers for us. When we opened the container the following day, we discovered that only two of the four shrimp were included. More concerning, the container that had the remaining Wild Grouper contained nothing but the rice--the fish was completely gone. I debated whether to bring this up because, frankly, I realize it may seem like a relatively minor or petty matter. However, I feel strongly that management should be made aware of what happened. This isn't so much about the value of the missing food as it is about the principle and the concern that an employee may have taken food that was intended for a customer. We otherwise had a very positive experience, particularly because of the excellent food and service from our waiter, which makes this situation all the more disappointing. I hope management will take this feedback seriously and look into what may have happened. read more

It's an intimate , elevated, dressy dinner experience. The Peacock is located inside of the proper hotel downtown Austin. I like to utilize their valet, It is $25 plus optional gratuity. Y'all already know, If there's a valet, I'm gonna valet! When you walk into the proper hotel there is an intimate bar setting just to the left. Both times I've been it has been pretty busy with no seating available, mostly standing room only. We were lucky to have a few seats available on Monday evening. If you keep walking past the bar you will end up at the restaurant. This is my second time here. Both dining experiences were large parties of 10 to 12 for a birthday dinner. The first time was a Saturday evening and this time was a Monday evening. Anytime you book a large party you are required to utilize their preset menu. It is $95 per person plus 20% gratuity. The set menu is four courses and I believe it changes on a regular basis and they keep the updated menu on their website. We started with the first course, duo of hummus dips with fresh pita, along with crudite. Our second course was grilled octopus and a simple greens salad. Our third course was a mixed grill kabob with lamb beef tenderloin and chicken thigh. There was also a wild grouper dish along with a side of heirloom carrots. For our fourth and final course it was dessert, a traditional baklava and a chocolate pistachio bar. I really enjoyed the hummus with the fresh pita bread. I was pretty much full after eating that. The salad has a lot of flavor with plenty of avocado on the bottom. The heirloom carrots were one of my favorites! So delicious, So much flavor. I only had a piece of the beef kabob and it was tender and flavorful. The dessert was way too sweet so I wasn't able to eat it. For the most part our server was attentive and the food mostly came out in a timely manner until it was time for the main course. We did wait and extended amount of time for that. But I really did not mind because I needed time to digest all of the other courses that we had already had. We were a little shocked when the check came and there were several additional fees. There was a 4% "Wellness Charge" In addition to 20% gratuity, as well as a drink tax and a food tax. My friend's mom was curious about the charge and asked the server, He seemed to be nervous in his response and he said the charge is to help pay for employee health benefits. She told the server that there needed to be more up front transparency in additional charges to be expected for large parties. And left it at that. Moral of the story, valet and....... If you're going to book a large party with the preset menu, I would call ahead and ask what additional fees and charges will be on top of the menu charge. Just so you don't have sticker shock when the check arrives. Interestingly, while I was picking up my car from valet I received a call from an unknown number. I answered and it was the manager of the restaurant. He apologized for us being charged the wellness charge on our check and said that he was going to refund us all for that charge. I never received a refund and I'm not sure how he even got my phone number to call me. Any who, If I do return to the Peacock it will not be for a large party experience. We go to Peacock fairly frequently, which is part of why this was so appalling. We spent about $350 on dinner. The food was fine, but there was a Pomeranian sitting on the bench at an indoor table next to us. Not on the floor. Sitting on the actual restaurant seating, indoors, while people were eating. I brought it up to management and was told they are a "pet-friendly" restaurant and that he had no intention of doing anything about it. I told him I was pretty sure that was a health code issue. He told me it wasn't. So I asked, "Can I bring my two Labs in here and put them on the bench at the table too?" He said yes, as long as they were well behaved. At that point I asked if they were trying to create the same dining experience as Kerbey Lane. I also pointed out that the irony of sitting in a place called the Proper while being told this was perfectly acceptable was not lost on me. And for the record, I freaking love dogs. I have two Labs. This has absolutely nothing to do with not liking dogs. It has everything to do with paying $350 for dinner at a restaurant in the Proper and having a shedding Pomeranian sitting on an upholstered bench at an indoor dining table, then having management tell me that's completely acceptable. For management's information, Austin City Code §10-3-124 is specifically titled "Dogs Permitted in Outdoor Dining Areas." It allows dogs in an outdoor dining area only under certain conditions, including that the dog "does not enter the interior" of the restaurant. Texas Health & Safety Code §437.025 also says a dog allowed in an outdoor dining area may not be on a "seat, table, countertop, or similar surface." So no, "we're pet friendly" does not mean a pet gets to sit on an indoor restaurant bench. Maybe management should get their shit straight on the actual rules before telling customers they're wrong. I first visited Peacock before I moved to Austin and was blown away the moment I walked in. The decor and design are stunning, and I am such a sucker for good ambiance, so I was instantly sold. It sits inside the Austin Proper Hotel, which is absolutely beautiful and makes the whole experience feel special. After I moved to Austin, I ended up going back a few more times and loved it just as much every visit. And the food. Wow. As someone who grew up eating Mediterranean food my entire life, I can honestly say their flavors are so good with a really unique, elevated twist. Everything we tried was full of flavor. The service has always been great too. Sometimes it does get busy and we wait a little to see the waiter, but we have never had a major issue with service. As for the other dishes, the Spiced Lamb Kefta had a little too much of a gaminess taste, but the sauces that paired with it helped tone it down. The Wood Grilled Angus Beef Burger was good. Met some friends for dinner here prior to seeing Moulin Rouge on May 21. We shared a bunch of plates and enjoyed all the apps we ordered except for the cauliflower curry one which didn't taste like expected. Our waiter, Tyler, did a great job giving us recommendations and was really patient with us as we had some mix ups on the sweetness of our drinks, especially the espresso martinis we all ordered. I was aiming for a decaf, less sweet one that turned out pretty sweet so they sent it back and made me a regular one with mezcal slightly less sweet.
