My family of 5 came to the Peacock Grill for Father's day, and overall I would say it was a great meal, fun ambiance, and good service. Why one star off? We spent around $600 with tip and fees for 5 (mixed grill, two apps, two drinks each); and while the food was delicious the meats were luke warm not piping hot, our server while very friendly was not the best at giving suggestions (basically she said everything is good lol) and wasn't able to split the check 2/3 and 1/3 instead of 50/50 ("... I don't know how to do that"), and the cocktails while tasty didn't really feel special enough to be $21-25 each. It was a very enjoyable experience I just don't know that it lived up to the price tag. For that price I'm looking for exceptional not just very good. That being said the food was delicious! Pricey but pretty good portions. The server said the mixed grill was good for around 4 people, but with two apps it was actually a little too much food for the 5 of us. Mixed grill ($220): -Rosewood Wagyu Strip and Lamb Chops: tie between these two for the best dish; they were both juicy and tender and the sauces were delicious. Not served piping hot but they were so good I didn't really mind. -Harissa Marinated Beef Tenderloin: great flavor- a tad dry. -Spiced Lamb Kefta: also dry, I liked it best with the yogurt sauce. -Red Pepper Chicken Thigh: delicious, one of my fav kabobs. -Herb & Garlic Shrimp: tasty and not overcooked -Charred King Trumpet mushroom: loved the veggie option! they mushrooms were substantial and the sauce was great. -Crispy Shallot Hummus: very good- loved the crispy shallots in particular! -Manti Dumplings: top app- I would 100% order this again the dumplings were delicious and the sauce/yogurt on top of them was the best, we wiped up every drop with the pitas! -The pita bread was hot, fresh, and delicious and our service kept on offering more, so I don't know if they've changed their policy but my experience was not the same as reviews that said only one pita per person. We refused extra pitas 3 times I think! Cocktails- everything we tried was quite good, but again there wasn't the pizaz or just 'blown away by the flavor' to feel that the crazy price was totally justified. We tried: Spanish G&T (very refreshing- don't chew on the juniper berries lol), Banana Bread Old Fashioned (pretty good even for someone who doesn't much like whiskey!), Bonfire on a Beach (fun, smokey, love the harissa on the side), Peach Martini (teensy bit sweet for me but good). The manager stopped by a few times to check on us and our server was very attentive. She did give us good service its just for the high price I would expect some more detailed suggestions on drinks, being able to split the check other than 50/50 (or at least ask someone instead of just saying 'I don't know how'). It was friendly and enthusiastic service just not 'wow this truly is fine dining' service. Outside of the restaurant, parking is a bit of a pain but that is normal for down town. The food at this place is delicious and well presented, I ordered the beef kebab and the Moroccan curry, the Moroccan curry is very savory and has bold strong flavors...exactly how I like my food. The beef kebab was soft and well seasoned, I like the lemon and citric condiments that came with it and pickled onions. The dessert was also delicious and made me moan a couple of times. Our server was Lucy, she was extremely helpful and polite. It seems as they were short staffed because they took longer than expected to offer me water or a drink. I don't see that often, but it was super tasty and complimented the meal. Ironically, the stand out for me was the tzatziki. It was very good. Some of the best I've had in a while! The hummus was just okay in my opinion. Nevertheless, I would still recommend for people to try it. The presentation was beautiful and your taste buds may be different than mine. It's an intimate , elevated, dressy dinner experience. The Peacock is located inside of the proper hotel downtown Austin. I like to utilize their valet, It is $25 plus optional gratuity. Y'all already know, If there's a valet, I'm gonna valet! When you walk into the proper hotel there is an intimate bar setting just to the left. Both times I've been it has been pretty busy with no seating available, mostly standing room only. We were lucky to have a few seats available on Monday evening. If you keep walking past the bar you will end up at the restaurant. This is my second time here. Both dining experiences were large parties of 10 to 12 for a birthday dinner. The first time was a Saturday evening and this time was a Monday evening. Anytime you book a large party you are required to utilize their preset menu. It is $95 per person plus 20% gratuity. The set menu is four courses and I believe it changes on a regular basis and they keep the updated menu on their website. We started with the first course, duo of hummus dips with fresh pita, along with crudite. Our second course was grilled octopus and a simple greens salad. Our third course was a mixed grill kabob with lamb beef tenderloin and chicken thigh. There was also a wild grouper dish along with a side of heirloom carrots. For our fourth and final course it was dessert, a traditional baklava and a chocolate pistachio bar. I really enjoyed the hummus with the fresh pita bread. I was pretty much full after eating that. The salad has a lot of flavor with plenty of avocado on the bottom. The heirloom carrots were one of my favorites! So delicious, So much flavor. I only had a piece of the beef kabob and it was tender and flavorful. The dessert was way too sweet so I wasn't able to eat it. For the most part our server was attentive and the food mostly came out in a timely manner until it was time for the main course. We did wait and extended amount of time for that. But I really did not mind because I needed time to digest all of the other courses that we had already had. We were a little shocked when the check came and there were several additional fees. There was a 4% "Wellness Charge" In addition to 20% gratuity, as well as a drink tax and a food tax. My friend's mom was curious about the charge and asked the server, He seemed to be nervous in his response and he said the charge is to help pay for employee health benefits. She told the server that there needed to be more up front transparency in additional charges to be expected for large parties. And left it at that. Moral of the story, valet and....... If you're going to book a large party with the preset menu, I would call ahead and ask what additional fees and charges will be on top of the menu charge. Just so you don't have sticker shock when the check arrives. Interestingly, while I was picking up my car from valet I received a call from an unknown number. I answered and it was the manager of the restaurant. He apologized for us being charged the wellness charge on our check and said that he was going to refund us all for that charge. I never received a refund and I'm not sure how he even got my phone number to call me. Any who, If I do return to the Peacock it will not be for a large party experience. I first visited Peacock before I moved to Austin and was blown away the moment I walked in. The decor and design are stunning, and I am such a sucker for good ambiance, so I was instantly sold. We shared a bunch of plates and enjoyed all the apps we ordered except for the cauliflower curry one which didn't taste like expected. Our waiter, Tyler, did a great job giving us recommendations and was really patient with us as we had some mix ups on the sweetness of our drinks, especially the espresso martinis we all ordered. I was aiming for a decaf, less sweet one that turned out pretty sweet so they sent it back and made me a regular one with mezcal slightly less sweet. The pita bread is out of this world **of note, they only give 1 per person at the table and you can't order any additional To close it out, we did the harissa beef skewers and ordered a side of the latkes (very crispy). This wellness surcharge is to pay for their health insurance. If a customer doesn't review the charges on their receipt, the establishment steal from its customers. And to suggest a tip on top of that? CUSTOMERS SHOULD NOT BE PAYING AN EMPLOYEE'S HEALH INSURANCE. Employees shouldn't be adding optional surcharges without asking customers. The menu is exquisite and they took the guesswork out of group dining (note: any more than 6 will require you to do a prix fixe but it's 10/10!) and even dietary restrictions or preferences seemed to be a non-issue with their menu. While the food looks aesthetically pleasing, the taste wasn't that memorable. My favorite item is probably the manti dumplings. Don't expect to find authentic Mediterranean food here, everything tasted more so like a modern or fusion twist of the original dish. I've been trying to make it back to this place a long time cause I wanted to try it again. I still feel the cost to value is a bit skewed in a negative way, but when I came back it was for a work event and everything was covered. In the absence of thinking about costs - good golly the food is great! I especially love the hummus with wagyu, it is STUNNING on the naan they give you! The drinks were also fantastic, I had both a cocktail and a mocktail and they were both fabulous; the mocktail had elderflower flavor which I am a sucker for so I liked that one even a bit more. The staff were courteous and helpful, quite fast at keeping dishes moved through. The ambiance is lovely, great for a date night but it does get a little packed esp around the bar so be mindful. The bathrooms are immaculate indeed! The parking sitch is a bit of a disaster tho, there's paid valet at Austin proper, or paid street parking. Nevertheless, I really do like this place, it's really lovely and I like what they are conceptually going for. I attended a cowork lunch here and it was a set coursed-out menu, so it might be slightly different from the original menu. The standout was definitely the first course with an array of hummus: the short rib hummus was so good, as was the cirpsy shallot hummus. I tried to pace myself but should've just gone all in, it was that good. The wood fire grilled octopus followed and was perfectly meaty and tender--a real credit to the chef. The butternut squash with feta and fried sage, despite being heavily garnished, leaned bland, and by the time the mixed grilled kebabs arrived, I was too full to fully enjoy them. The lamb was a bit mushy, and overall, they didn't stand out. The interior's blend of Western and Middle Eastern vibes was charming, but for the price and downtown location, I think there are better options around.
