I can't remember if I've actually eaten here or not before, but it's been years since my last visit to Austin so, while shopping nearby we walked in for a lighter lunch. My friend chose a few things as her meal: -Smoked Trout Dip -Cheese Plate I chose: -Malt Vinegar Fries - drizzled with sweet honey and vinegar served with mayo -Farro Grain salad - no greens at all - wayyyyy too much grain for one serving The salad was pretty to look at and I picked out all the fresh veggies (tomato, cucumber, peppers) but, it was WAY too heavy on the grains - probably two cups. Huge in size but, not edible. I was hoping for some greens since it said salad. The fries were seriously some of the best french fries of my life! The vinegar and honey was stellar together and they were perfectly cooked, crispy and warm. YUM. I loved, I mean, loved the vibes and decor inside. It's beautiful. An old Pharmacy, duh, as the name implies and they have incorporated that into the inside. Even the bathroom is beautiful. Great part of town close to some really cute and unique shops. Went for a girl's night and got the Adult Happy Meal. I don't drink so they subbed it for a yummy NA drink. Our server was very friendly. The hamburger is great. This is a great deal. It's a full size wagyu hamburger, a ton of fries, and an old fashioned (or NA drink) for $20. There is also parking next door . The restaurant is very cute. Dinner last night at Hillside Farmacy was really disappointing. There were too many things wrong with the food and service. It took quite a while for a server to come initially. We ordered a bottle of red wine and it was brought to us with tiny dessert wine glasses. The server apologized and said the dishwasher keeps breaking all their wine glasses so they don't have any more??? Ok, well, if you're going to sell wine, you need to buy more wine glasses? The wine was hotter than room temperature and it was made worse by the improper glassware. We ordered a dozen oysters and they weren't properly shucked. They were still stuck to the shell so we had to work at digging them out to eat them. Before we could even do that, we had to ask for napkins and silverware and the hostess brought them over in scrunched up napkins and was joking that they didn't have any silverware and she had to put it together herself. The entrees took a long time to come out. I got the mushroom pasta, which was the only good thing about the meal. My husband's steak and fries were literally room temperature. I touched the steak and it was not even remotely warm. It was about 9pm at this point and we were starving and just scarfed it down anyway because we didn't want to deal with complaining about all this stuff and waiting for it to be made right. A lot of these issues wouldn't be a huge deal on their own, but it added up to every single aspect having a problem other than my pasta. Oh well, I guess. read more

Came here for a quick brunch before leaving for the airport. The menu was small but so was my appetite- I had a fruit tart while my other guest had the waffles and avocado toast. I can't wait it was a particularly memorable experience. It was also pretty warm inside, as though the AC system was in disrepair. Great place for brunch! The interior is unique as this used to be an actual pharmacy. Inside and outdoor seating available! We sat outside to enjoy the nice weather and got the eggs Benedict and buttermilk pancakes. Both were yum! My husband normally doesn't eat pancakes (think they're too sweet) but this tasted amazing and not overly sweet! Very filling too. Can't go wrong with Eggs Benedict! We wandered in on a Sunday morning and got seated right away on their little patio. It's a cool, quiet vibe--easy going but classy. Felt like we were on vacation. The menu keeps it simple, which I like--no huge list to stress over. We split the Fried Egg Sandwich and a pancake with blueberry compote. Also grabbed a Strawberry Pimm's Cup cocktail and a cappuccino. Everything was tasty and hit the spot. The sandwich was good, pancake was light but filling, and the drinks were solid. I was surprised to see the mediocre reviews! My experience at Hillside Farmacy was delightful. My girlfriend and I visited for a date night; we loved the romantic bistro vibes and fun decor. The restaurant was packed at 8pm on a Friday evening. Insulation in here isn't great - it's LOUD. This was a little frustrating but the food and drinks made up for it. Drinks: I ordered a mezcal drink which was phenomenal, and my girlfriend got the grapefruit jalapeño margarita which was a little too strong/spicy IMO. Food: - Half dozen oysters - served beautifully with all the sauces and fixings. Tasty! - Arancini balls in a marinara sauce - 3 to a portion. I found these to be flavorful and filling. - cheeseburger and fries - this is easily one of the best cheeseburgers in Austin. Simple but absolutely epic. The hand cut fries were excellent as well. This place felt nostalgic due to the gorgeous revamp of the historic hillside pharmacy. The decor was very pretty and kind of cozy. The service is was nice and our waiter was very attentive. We went around 10:30am. My fiance got the fried egg sandwich and said the avocado & bread was great, but the overall sandwich lacked seasoning. There were no salt & pepper shakers on the tables but I'm sure we could have asked. The poboy was very delicious, I asked for some lemons and it took it to a solid 5 stars. You get the option with the sandwiches to get fries or Cesar salad as the side. I chose Cesar salad for a lighter brunch. I have mixed feelings about Hillside Farmacy. I first discovered them when they had a brunch bag on TooGoodToGo. The brunch food always slapped, so I knew I had to come in here for real one day. Recently they were added to inKind, so I've been 4 times to try their various specials. On Sundays they have a $25 steak frites deal. The steak was just OK and they wouldn't let me sub the fries for something healthier, so off to a not great start. On Wednesday they came to life with a $20 burger & Old Fashioned. Incredible deal. The burger was a bit better than the steak but didn't blow me away and I think it was just too much bun for me. I'd go again at this price, though. On Thursday is the best special though, all day happy hour. I had $1.50 oysters, a $3.50 Kolsch, and a couple other cheap bites. I went one more time to get a caesar salad for lunch and it was the saddest caesar salad I've had. It was like a wedge salad with a bit of cheese on top, very disappointing. Service is good, some employees are paying more attention than others it seems as I've sat and waited for the check at least one of the three times while they chatted with someone else. But everyone's friendly. As a neighborhood spot, I'll round up from a 3.5* to a 4*. The decor is really cute if you're into that sort of thing. read more

This is such a cool and niche place to visit! We had to wait for a table about an hour so we popped into this wonderful little bar! It was great and they sat us immediately! The ambiance was really unique like an old school pharmacy. The ambiance was really unique and since it's close to Halloween they had it decorated for the holiday. I got an Affogato and it was delicious! My friend got an old fashioned and said it was pretty good! Parking is difficult to find but they do have paid parking kind of close by. This is a good go to for an intimate or elevated dinner. The inside is beautiful and the patio is really lovely when the weather is nice. The food is reliably good, and they change the menu up fairly often, rotating in dishes based on seasonality. The cocktail menu is also fun and interesting. I have found the service can be little slow and hit or miss, but nothing that turns me off coming here. They also have a decent happy hour and a steak and martini deal I've heard people talk about. Really good experience! We weren't sure what we wanted for lunch and decided to pop into Hillside for a quick casual spot. We really enjoyed our experience! I had the bloody Mary, which was great and the chicken sandwich which I can confidently say as an avid chicken sandwich lover this was truly one of the best I have ever had. I have extremely high standards for food and for me to say that this is one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had is huge. It was perfectly cooked, flavorful and well balanced, and I quickly added it to my list of best bites of 2026. Service was great. Our waiter could not have been friendlier and more accommodating and the ambience was perfect for a nice lunch. Stopped twice in one week! It's a cute spot in an old pharmacy. The decor really does a great job reminding you of an old timey pharmacy complete with different bottles and a side fountain. Came for brunch on a Saturday with a friend and loved the bruleed gaprefruit and the fried egg sandwich. Thought everything was good and noticed they had a Wednesday night burger special that I decided to come back for with my husband. Hesitant to post this for fear of it getting too popular but Wednesday night burger special is where it's at!! As I'm currently pregnant and hunting for the top cheeseburger in Austin this one is ranked pretty high on my scale! The burger had great queslity and flavor with a good mix of all toppings where each one really shined and came together to make an amazing experience. The fries were also fresh cut and had a good balance of salt. We came here before a show at bass concert hall and it made for the perfect date night. We came here for the popular $25 steak frites sunday night dinner. Just as a warning, you will need a reservation cause it got packed quick. Apparently this was an old pharmacy that got converted to a restaurant and it was really cool to see the different architecture and decor. As for the food itself, the fries were definitely the best part. Super crispy and seasoned well. The portion sizes were generous and the medium rare steak was juicy and chewy just how I like it. However, the chimichurri sauce was really lacking and did not add any flavor. So it was pretty much just fries and a bland steak. I'm glad I came though and recommend people to at least try it for a well priced steak dinner. read more

Had an awful experience 5 years ago, and another one today: they have an arbitrary happy hour, where they have 10 seats... if you aren't sitting in those 10 seats, you pay double--make that make sense? The tall male host in the red shirt is wildly condescending and unhelpful. Apparently if he likes you, he'll reserve you a table at the high top, which you can't do online. So we decide to sit outside and pay double the price, and while our friends have half a glass of wine in front of them, our server comes up to us twice and says "your bill still hasn't been paid". A truly wild experience. It's a shame, as I told the manager last time how great the place has become... funny how one person can go and ruin it. Oh well--Loudmouth next door has a great all night happy hour on the same day, no matter where you're seated! :) read more

A childhood friend of mine suggested we dine here while I was in Austin visiting. I'm glad she recommended it because everything was a 10 out of 10 from the service to the food. I loved the ambience and decor it really lived up to its name. We came during happy hour and all of the appetizers were on special, I'm a huge oyster girly so we ordered a dozen and they were so good I felt like I was back in New Orleans! The crab cake was perfection the charcuterie board was amazing the mac & cheese was good, the only thing I didn't like was the steak tartare with the raw egg, I should've skipped that. However, the service took quite a while (around 40 minutes). I also ordered yogurt with "homemade granola," but it appeared to just be Nutri-Valley bars, which was a bit disappointing.
