Happy hour set $ off every drink!
Sarah C.

We came on opening day and my takeaway is they need a little polishing but I would 100% come out again! The vibe is chill and retro; think Mama Dearest but without the creepy doll/skin lamps/incest vibe . We literally bombed the place with 8 people right at open so things were a little hectic but the bartender was friendly and accommodating with the happy hour specials, giving us alternate beers at the same price since the one we wanted wasn't cold. The parking is limited but the street behind it has more free spots- just keep an eye on the parking signs. There apparently will be a food truck but it wasn't open at the time we visited. Space was fun, music was great, the seating was comfortable, and the price sure was right! Give this place a try! Bonus points if you take pics of the basketball playing lynx because I completely forgot to lol! Edit: seriously keep an eye on the parking signs! We parked on the side street (Adam L Chapa), accidentally in front of someone's side gate- NOT a driveway- and they squirted mustard on my hood and drivers door :/ I swear I didn't see a sign when we parked but there was a personal "no parking" sign on the gate when we returned. Frustrating thing is there was a dude in the back yard when we parked and he didn't say anything to us...

Great prices and chill staff. Love the patio and its artwork. The vintage furniture and VHS collection on display is just the cherry on top

Post up at a picnic table and you'll…read morefeel like you're chilling in your buddy's backyard, if they happened to be excellent at brewing beer, too. It's definitely an accommodating, welcoming space that's designed to sit and stay a while. You can bring your own family, of two and four legs, and no one would bat an eye. The beer is great and the bartenders will graciously guide you through the list if you're uncertain. Service is quick, easy, and to the point. You can go from zero to raising a glass in under a minute if you wanted. I didn't investigate the food situation but I hear it exists. Bear in mind that it's right across the street from Via 313, which is what I tend to hit up before or after a visit.

I am going to go with a minority opinion here…read more But I am sticking to my guns on this one. I think the Zilker Brewing Company is a terrible brewery. Okay - I only had two of their beers ... so I may have been freakishly unlucky. But since there were only 13 beers on the menu - 2 out of 13 both being bottom 1%-ers is not at all an auspicious sign. Yeah, they were both seasonal specials and not Zilker's mainline offerings. So it could be that the mainline offerings are better. I still don't like those odds. The two guilty beers were a) LA Pilsner which tasted like nothing. The bartender told me that this is a beer drinker's beer. Beer that tastes like nothing so it can be consumed in quantity is called "swill" in my book. b) Culture Creature which is a fruity IPA. This tasted more or less like cleaning fluid. * * * Now to be sure, the Zilker Brewery was unlucky on two counts. 1) I was there for a SXSW showcase. They are an outdoor venue - and the night was unseasonably cold. The Zilker Brewery does not control that. 2) It did not help that the first two bands of that showcase stunk up the house so badly I left the the showcase in disgust. (Including the once-good band I had explicitly come to see.) * * * However, as a Yelp reviewer, I do my best to be fair and objective. I ran into the two-bad-beer problem before I hit the freezing-my-ass-off problem and before any of the bands had started playing. So I knew where I stood on the beer before these other distractions emerged. Suffice it to say, I am not coming back here to drink any time soon.

I felt the vibe instantly, like as soon as I put one foot in the door. Magical, sophisticated, worldly, wonderful and more were the feelings that spontaneously hit me. The dark and elegant decor, lighting, design, & layout made me feel as though I were in a high-end Tokyo cocktail lounge. The front room as I mentioned is an intimate bar and lounge area with artwork adorning the walls. It's a modern, minimalist, and sleek space. The artwork is ever-changing (every couple of months or so) and the cocktail menu changes right long with it. Note: artwork is available for purchase. What an absolutely glorious way of combining different mediums (liquid art vs physical art). The craft cocktails & mocktails are the epitome of works of art. I've had great cocktails and mocktails elsewhere but honestly I'd be hard pressed to find anything on this level. You're taken into an entirely different realm just watching the genius of mixologists. It's mesmerizing watching them hone their craft. In the back of the lounge is an enclave of eclectic art and other pieces that then leads you to Konbini, the sushi bar. It's an industrial, warehouse vibe with a long counter that screams hip, Tokyo inspired, late-night eatery. Service is impeccable and welcoming at this cosmopolitan venue. It's truly an amazing experience.

Only food I tried was the Tofu Chip which was delicious as well. Also got the Milky drink and it went down just as smoothly. All in all great place, just popped in for my second time in the past three days. The vibe was chill and laid back. Dim lighting and good music.

Ugh for the life of me I can't remember the servers name but he had long hair and a great smile. He was super sweet and treated us like royalty. The pizzas we ordered were phenomenal. We liked the Joe's pie better than the other. The Italian sandwich --oh absolutely I will get that again next time. It was so flavorful and delicious. The sauce, the meat, the bread, the cheese-- all of it came together perfectly! Those meatballs, and that focaccia bread mmm -chefs kiss The house Cabernet was perfect as well. Topped it off with the most delicious tiramisu that had little crunchy pieces of salt on top. Can't say enough good things. I wish we live closer instead of 45 minutes away, but the waiter and the food made it worth the drive. Ambience was awesome- that old house turned restaurant is really really cool. Must see yall!

However, I thought the food was just okay. The Senor Pastor pizza's flavor was a unique flavor to try, I just didn't think it was very good and forgettable. I would probably recommend a more classic red sauce, maybe those would have been better. Brussel sprouts - were amazing and had a great sauce but they prefaced it by saying it will be gone from the menu soon. Italian sub - this was good and I would get it to go for a quick lunch. Caesar - I heard a lot about this caesar online but found it to be a complete miss and just a subpar salad. I was disappointed by the unbalanced flavor. It was pretty tangy.

My Yelp friend struck up an energetic conversation about Australia and New Zealand with two out of town guests. It turns out Nickel City is considered a must-do activity when visiting Austin, and I've even seen it listed as a tourist attraction. My friend's boyfriend and I talked about various Texas cities, the bar itself, and details about East Austin. The bartender was making faces at the fur baby, causing its ears to perk up...there seems to be a playful love-hate dynamic between them, especially since the bartender gave the pet some treats. Although the bar was busy, it wasn't too loud; it was easy to hear people talk without any trouble. I've now experienced Nickel City both during the day and at night.

I had a solo evening while on vacation with family, as my parents had dinner with friends. I had just walked over from Cuantos Tacos (which, go there, delicious), and planned on being here for maybe two drinks. Welp, lets just say I ended up sitting at the bar drinking and taking in the environment for 3-4 hours. As you'll see in the photos, I got suckered into a frozen drink (whip-it-good) and the Miami Vice. I also had a beer and some whiskey (not photographed). I had a great time, some people ended up talking to me throughout the time sitting at the bar, bartenders were nice even as the shift changed (or one bartender went on break for a long time). Either way, when i'm back in Austin, this will be in my rotation. I can see this place becoming insanely hectic on a friday or saturday evening, but that wouldnt be my jam. On a weds at 6pm-10pm, it was great.
